For the fourth scenario I have not marked it as reported yet because I will have to do that myself, and currently this scenario is not yet reportable. When we finish the adventure I'll send out the full chronicles and by then it will be able to be reported (though I'll be reporting it as soon as able)

DD-2A: Lady Tula's Lament - Lem Rewards

Tier Progression: (2.1) Lem gains a Hero Point.
Lem expends the Hero Point on a Skill Feat, and checks off...
Charisma d10 ☑ +1 ☑ +2 ☐ +3 ☐ +4

Lem still has 1 remaining Hero Point.

Scenario Reward: The scenario reward is the Loot weapon Wyrmsmite. Basically a Longsword +2, with a big bonus against Dragons (of course) and a powerful local damage protection ability.

Whilst it's not infeasible to give it to Lem purely to support the party with damage resistance which he can quickly cycle through to again; it's obviously better suited to literally any other party member where it serves double duty as a viable weapon. :)

Lem's Deck Upgrade preferences are as follows...

  • Item 2: (Wasn't acquired)
  • Blessing 2: Replace Blessing of the Gods with Blessing of Maat (Ultimate Intrigue). Blessing 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 976
  • Ally 2: (Wasn't acquired)
  • Spell 2: (Wasn't acquired)
  • Spell 0: Replace Frigid Blast with Fiery Glare (Core) (Occult Adventures). Spell 0: 1d1000 ⇒ 965
  • Weapon 1: Replace Rapier (Core) with Javelin of Lightning (Occult Adventures). Low Priority Weapon 1: 1d1 ⇒ 1

Fun fact; I only started considering Fiery Glare as a spell option for Lem after that run-in with the Troll in 1C. We clearly need to have some kind of Fire attack among the party.

Hero point spent on Skill Feat: Strength +2. 0 Hero Points remaining.

    Deck Upgrade:
Weapon 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 926 Naginata -> Shieldsplitter Lance. Basically lets me ignore the Veteran boosts on banes, which reduces difficulty of the check by 3-9 depending on the number of #'s. I don't think I'd bother with attempting to get Mount allies to use its other effect, however.

Wyrmsmite: I'm fine with someone else taking it; the reload ability is something I already get with my character power so it doesn't add much value to me. If I end up with it, it'd replace my Wakizashi.

I'll take a Weapon 1 (Upgrade Quarterstaff -> Djinni Quarterstaff)

    And a Power Feat (Hand size 5 -> 6)

And I'll defer to the Paladin on the Wyrmsmite.

DD-2B - A Piece of the Auction - Lem Rewards

Tier Progression: (2.2) Lem gains a Hero Point.
Lem expends the Hero Point on a Power Feat, and checks off...
    Hand Size: 6 ☑ 7

Lem still has 1 remaining Hero Point.

Scenario Reward: Low interest in the loot; may be more helpful for me in some scenarios over others, though.

Lem's Deck Upgrade preferences are as follows...

  • Item 2: Replace Hypnotist's Locket with Candle of Comity (Occult Adventures). Item 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 125
  • Spell 2: Replace Frigid Blast with Deathgrip (Core) (Occult Adventures). Spell 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 417
  • Ally 2: Replace Lookout with Slip (Ultimate Intrigue). Ally 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 377
  • Spell 0: Replace Frigid Blast with Fiery Glare (Core) (Occult Adventures). Spell 0: 1d1000 ⇒ 950
  • Weapon 1: Replace Rapier (Core) with Javelin of Lightning (Occult Adventures). Low Priority Weapon 1: 1d1 ⇒ 1

  • I would love to take one of those Weapon 2s, but I really don't have any good weapon options from either of my decks.

So I'll take a Spell 2 (assuming that Valeros probably doesn't want one, there will be lots to go around) to take a Holy Javelin, and use my Hero Point on a Card Feat to add an spell slot that the Javelin can go into.

Then I'll take the Wall of Light loot as well, since I seem best suited to it and nobody else seems eager (again, assuming Valeros doesn't want it), and swap out Holy Light for Wall of Light.

And with all those AD2 cards up, I'm tempted to use my Treasure Hunter boon to snatch up a second one... but I'm really not that sure what I'd take, since I don't have a lot of good cards in either of my decks. If nobody takes the Ally 2 on the first pass, I might roll on that. Or if there's still an Item 2, I guess I could use one of those. We'll see what's still out there after first dibs.

Well, it looks like I'm taking Spell 2 for the Adventure Reward, for obvious reasons. I'm kinda surprised that our list of acquired boons was so poor despite having a scenario where we were forced to clear every location.

I think I get the Ally 2 if nobody else rolls higher? My roll was higher than Seelah and all of my above-listed requests were invalid. I'm happy to pass on it, though; Slip is good, but not for supporting the team. As I've acknowledged before; most of Lem's boons are kinda... well they may as well be blank cards, because most of the cards in my deck are relegated to being recharged for my power 50% of the time or more. :)

    Hey everyone!

I'm letting everyone know that I'll be travelling to the States on my Friday, October the 18th, a journey which - between the series of long flights and the absolute necessity to pass out asleep as soon as I reach my destination, and the associated settling in - will likely take me out of action for about 36-48.

For the timezones of most of you, this effectively means I likely won't be posting around Thursday or Friday (and possibly Saturday). Once I'm settled in, standard posting frequency should resume, albeit at different time slots. You may bot me as necessary.

Side-note; I love the design of both of Valeros' roles. I actually think he has the most interesting/exciting roles of any Core/Curse character - at least in terms of how they can change his abilities and playstyle in both theme and mechanics.

Particularly notable to me, because I generally shy far away from the Fighter class in the PACG, which always felt like one-trick ponies that don't have to make many decisions or have many options in a given turn.

    Scenario 3A Development text:
"Go in enlightenment," said the mummified abbot before he crumbled to dust. "The window has closed forever."

The monastery's gates have fallen, and with them the minions of Aeteperax. Now what remains is the unmasking of the villain behind all this treachery.

At this point, you're convinced that Aeteperax is at least some form of dragon. While unlikely to be the ancient dragon that crashed into the Crypt of Tula a millennium ago, the being has its lieutenants in full agreement that they work for a dragon of considerable power. The lunar naga let slip the creature's true name, "Szangi." Perhaps that can be of use.

So a dragon it is. Thankfully, your expedition to Lady Tula's resting site has girded you with weapons for salying a dragon. With a little fortitude and a lot of good fortune, you can end the threat to Belhaim. Or you can die trying. Either way, it's going to be an exciting night.

    Scenario 3B Intro text:
A colossal cavern in Dragonfen, not far from the Monastery of Saint Kyerixus, is where the wyrm known to Belhaim as Aeteperax makes its lair. You prepare to sneak inside, hoping to reach the dragon while it sleeps in its lair. If you can take it by surprise, you might stand a fighting chance.

But that's not going to happen. You see the dragon marching out to the cave mouth with little fear for its survival. it sniffs the air, having obviously detected your presence. measuring thirty feet from nostril to tail point, this emerald-scaled monsters saunters forth from his den and proclaims its magnificence.

"What is this? Who are you? You dare come before the great Aeteperax uninvited and without the ransom I demanded of your weak-livered farm folk? Name yourselves so I might know whose blood will stain my cave!"

Yet despite its fearsome presence, this is not Aeteperax. You saw the bones of the ancient dragon entrenched into the soul of the Crypt of Tula. By all accounts that was a black dragon. Before you is a green dragon, and an imposter at that.

"Whatever you say, Szangi," you scoff below your breath.

At the sound of its true name - one it clearly despises beyond reason - the dragon recoils and drapes its wings forward. "HOW DARE YOU," it commands. "For this insult, you shall pay with the screams of a thousand years. When I am done with you, no one will remember your names. They will only remember the name of Sza - I mean, Aeteperax!"

The dragon takes to the air and retreats into its caves. You hear the sounds of its minions coming to defend it. You see the glints of its treasures within. You hear the backdraft whistle through a vast underground library. And from beyond, you hear the dragon fume with rage.

Raise your swords to the heavens. For tonight, you will slay a dragon.

Regarding the possible continuation of our Legendary Adventures into Curse of the Crimson Throne, I have several character ideas I'd like to pilot. My preference is to work with the team to play a character that is both fun and fitting for all involved, hence why I'm giving so much notice about my character interests. In no particular order, my ideas are thus...

  • Kess (Curse), Finesse Adventurer's Pack + Ultimate Wilderness: Specific Adventurer's Pack subject to change. Kess works great with Ultimate Wilderness; able to leverage her large quantity of Allies to carry a powerful Plant focus alongside some its small "weaponless combat matters" theme.
  • Ultimately, Kess will end up as an extremely resilient, exploration-heavy character specialized to dealing with any kind of monster, regardless of check requirements or damage. Curse provides no shortage of Loot allies, so having the ally-heavy Kess in the party also helps ensure none of them go to waste if the rest of the party don't use them, especially since her powers tend to scale with the level of her cards (and Loot breaks the normal level caps).

  • Flenta (Fighter CD), Support + Smash + ? Adventurer's Packs: The third Adventurer's Pack will either be Arcane, Tank or Finesse, depending on whether I'm aiming towards the earlier or later game, for the most part. The Adventurer's Packs, the Conversion Guide errata for Flenta and the more flexible Spell designs of Core/Curse have breathed new life into this old character, and I firmly believe her unique method of 'spellcasting' can shine in such an environment.
  • She's great at using spells that display for long periods of time, since she instantly retrieves new spells from the box and recharges them, and she's uniquely well-suited to utilizing the Core/Curse spells that buff your physical attributes (almost all of which are in the Support Adventurer's Pack). The Conversion Guide errata effectively means she keeps cycling new AD#-2 spells into her deck and I can even use deck shuffles to maximize the number of (largely random) spells I can pull out. I can even push more into the mix by using the Dragon's Demand AP reward to start with more spells in my deck than I would normally be able to.
  • Post-role, she can also add large static numbers to both her combat and non-combat checks, giving her some strong staying power alongside her unusually large hand size for a straight fighter.

  • Sajan (Monk CD), Monk Class Deck + Ultimate Intrigue, High interest in the Blackjack Role: Pre-existing character, ran the last Special with him in Tier 1. Subject to changing out the Ultimate Deck for Adventurer's packs - not sure yet. Originally selected for appearing to be a strong candidate for the Blackjack Role, able to leverage several of Blackjack's qualities; in particular, the Stealth skill granted by Blackjack enables Sajan to use both of the phenomenal end-game Monk weapons effectively, the Sajan-themed slashing powerhouse and the stealth and acrobatics-based epic knife.
  • All in all, I'd build Sajan to firmly concentrate on combat, leveraging Blackjack's abilities to take checks on behalf of others and/or avenge them, meaning Sajan would be strongest alongside one or more combat-light characters in the team.

  • Melindra (Wizard CD), Finesse + Arcane + ? Adventurer's Packs: The third Adventurer's Pack will either be Support, Divine or Occult. Like Flenta, Melinda is an old character with completely new abilities thanks to the Adventurer's Packs, enabling her to actually leverage her weapon slots now that Stealth can be used with weapons, and the aforementioned Dragon's Demand AP reward helps maximize her spell count to enable her core "Draw spells as you play them" power to work smoothly.
  • For the most part, she is largely "just" a straight Arcane caster, one way or another, though, and is unlikely to play too differently to, say, RotR Ezren (aside from the occasional use of Invisibility and a dagger to blitz a combat check). Still, she's thematic in a city/urban based AP, and she could even carry the Blackjack mantle, though that's not necessarily my intent.

  • Zvarbel (Magus CD), Cards/Packs dependant on party composition and role: One of the more unique characters and yet, perhaps, one of the less used. Pre-Core Zvarbel is a slow, clumsy Magus with mediocre combat and a tiny hand size (made worse by the Magus' shared reliance on a Cohort who tends to stick in hand) who is hugely reliant on using spells or her Disable skill to defeat barriers.
  • Post-Core Zvarbel, however, is... arguably overpowered, depending on your role you take. Her more egregious "Spell Trapper" role means she can selectively fail checks to draw cards from her discards as well as barriers from the box, or even reset her hand when anyone at her location (including herself!) fails to defeat a bane. The advent of scourges penalizing failure and Recovery occuring at the end-of-turn has certainly hindered Spell Trapper to some point, though, whilst her other "Deep Marshal" role completely goes all-in on her "anti-barrier" focus; massively enhancing all local character's ability to defeat barriers and getting more and more benefits when anyone at her location does so, including turning them into exploration fuel and damage avoidance.
  • Either way, I think she's a cool, unusual character who gets much better when exposed to post-Core Armor designs, and can also leverage post-core Spells that bolster her physical attributes well. An odd blend of anti-barrier, spellcaster and melee tank, and I like it!

  • Hakon (Curse), Cards/Packs dependant on party composition and role: A natural follow-up to Lem; switching from the supportive Bard to the 'supportive' Skald. In practice, though, I can build Hakon in at least 3 very, very distinct ways.
  • I can play Hakon 'straight' as a supportive character, likely sticking with the Warpriest CD and a couple of Adventurer's packs, combining local support and strong healing with powerful melee hits.
  • I can focus on the use of Blackjack's role card, as I believe Hakon to be the best carrier of the Blackjack Role in Core/Curse, frequently reloading Blackjack boons to add a further-buffed Diplomacy score to local checks against monsters with ease, and pushing his hand size to surpass Hakon's normal role limits. Note that Hakon greatly benefits from hand size increases - and the Blackjack 'kit' mechanic - due to his desire to draw specific card types in order to draw the right card from his discards at the right time.
  • Whilst not necessarily mutually exclusive with the above two, I can exploit the amazing Robe of Items with him, as he is one of the finest users of what is already one of the most powerful PACG boons ever printed. With Robe of Items, two items that discard-to-explore and a third with a solid reveal or reload power, he can search his 3 other items with the Robe wherever they are, discard two to explore, then on the next turn switch the final one with the Robe of Items from his discards and do it all again, effectively expending 0 cards every time, getting a more-or-less guaranteed two bonus explorations a turn, and even able to 'self-heal' himself through this trick as Robe of Items draws his remaining items from his discards as easily as his deck. This does wonders for overcoming his small hand size, and the entire trick can be done solely using items from Ultimate Equipment - alas, this means I either have the Warpriest CD or a single Adventurer's Pack to work with besides.
  • The Robe of Items combo is the most obviously strong of the above three directions, but a big part of our Legendary playthrough is to win without powergaming. With that said, I could use Hakon as a Blackjack with 3 Adventurer's Packs, which would perfectly represent something that any home player can and may do in the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP, so Hakon may be a good example for such a party even if I avoid the Robe of Items trick.

More or less, I think my character choices fall into the following categories, with some overlap between all of them...

  • Old, Niche characters, enabled by the new Adventurer's Packs: Flenta, Melindra.
  • Curse of the Crimson Throne characters: Kess, Hakon.
  • Blackjack Specialists: Sajan, Hakon (Optionally), Melindra (Optionally).
  • Primary Arcane Casters: Melindra, Zvarbel.
  • Primary Martial Combatants: Flenta, Kess, Sajan, Hakon (Optionally).

  • Obsidian Entertainment

    What a great breakdown, Yewstance.

I'm ultimately very flexible but if it helps narrow things down, I'm mostly thinking about casters. I don't know what decks I'd ultimately plan to use with them but the I'm thinking of using one of following...
    Ezren (Core)
    Varian (Core)
    Ramexes (Oracle)
    Nyctessa (HV2)
If you have your heart set on something that would overlap, I can easily do something else, but if this helps narrow things down for anybody, let it be so!

I'm pretty flexible on things. Right now a short highlight of folks that I'm considering in no particular order:
Kess - Because I haven't played him yet.
Varian - Urban bard is good for Curse.
Maznar - Free 1d4 to ALL local checks is pretty powerful in post-Core play where you tend to group up anyway

Since I'm still playing this character, I should formally post my end of scenario stuff:
    Hero Point -> Wisdom +1
Acquired Cards -> Spell 2 (upgrade Holy Light to Deathgrip, since I'm losing my loot spell)
Adventure Reward -> Spell 3 (upgrade Cure to Restorative Touch)

Oh, and since I realized I'd completely overlooked the AD2 Adventure reward, I've retconned that to be an Armor 2 (using that to upgrade Chainmail to Gray Maiden Plate, since I'm losing my loot armor)

And all of that came with also swapping out my Cleric deck for the Divine Adventure Pack, which is why some of the cards mentioned above are cards that weren't previously available to me. ;-)

Kyra's adventures continue! (and Seelah's too... or at least, there's still a Seelah in her new group... which is a bit weird, because it's Seelah, but it's not HER Seelah, ya know? ;-) )
