Beetly
still here
Boom!
Boom! appears back in the lobby muttering a string of curses and rubbing the back of his head with a grimace before wandering around looking for his opponent. "No good, filthy, hairy, cheating, ugly, tiny, coward, dwarf! Boom! continues muttering to himself, getting ever more creative in his insults and pejoratives before finally finding the dwarf himself in the lobby. Boom! stares into the dwarf's beady little eyes for a moment, looking like he might go for a weapon here and now, before just grunting, "Good fight."
Asaakoz
Still here, so is Palthut .
Palthut
"Eeeh eeh eeh" Palthut laughs as he accepts the GP.
Aristotle Dubois
Aristotle summons tiny orbs of light, testing out some of his new spells. "Yes, yes, still here. Let's see if I have learned enough."
Beansidhe
Beansidhe looks around at the others. She begins to stretch and hop about, preparing her body for the match to come. She looks around, focusing on Acrythe. Silently, she pulls up her hand and drags a finger across her throat, before turning back to wait and see who her opponent will actually be.
Edited to change my threat from a random competitor to my next competitor. Seems more fun that way.
Nairb the Grey
Behold your next test. Here is an arena of champions. Make your preparations.
The disembodied voice booms through the clouds as the magic eye displays before you show an arena bathed in moonlight, silver runes scattered through the dirt of the arena floor. A voice inside of you whispers who your next competitor will be.
Arena A - Beetly v Aristotle
Arena B - Palthut v Carlos
Arena C - Boom! v Asakoz
Arena D - Acrythe v Drogo
Arena F - Shamanita v Tobias v Beansidhe
If you have any day of preparations you would like to make you may do so now. No additional purchases can be made at this time.
An imp of muddied brown skin flies around with a metal lockbox floating behind him.
"Bets! Place your bets here! Who will win and who will die? Now is your chance; if you know then try!"
As Lv 2 characters you may place up to a 200 gp in each arena. Because there are three combatants in Arena F your bet will pay 3:1 instead of 2:1. Bets must be placed against other PCs, so you have to find someone that is willing to take the other side (or one other side in the case of Arena F) of your bet. For Arena F if there are only two betters then the Imp will take the third side and gladly take your money if you both lose.
After day of preparations and placing bets go ahead and head to your assigned arena and roll for initative. All combatants must be in their assigned arena by Friday at 11 AM CST or risk a forfeit. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Asaakoz
After day of preparations and placing bets go ahead and head to your assigned arena and roll for initative.
Does this mean *don't* start until tomorrow morning and no more bets *after* that point?
Palthut
[b]"Palthut say yes to bet! for only carlos though."[b]
taking carlos's bet of carlos and NOT THE OTHERS
Boom!
Boom! walks up to Carlos and looks him up and down as if measuring something before finally nodding and simply stating, "Bad karma to bet on oneself, but if nobody else wants the money... Screw it. We don't actually exist anyway, right?" And with that, Boom! accepts Carlos' bet, the added incentive now making Boom! antsy under the pressure.
Aristotle Dubois
"Why, I should have." says Aristotle, dusting off his robe as he reappears in the lobby. "How about this? If you'll take me up, I'll bet on myself for the next fight, blindly."
Meanwhile, the wizard takes notes on his opponents' fighting styles.
Aristotle Dubois
"Hmm... Pass."
With an obnoxious smirk, Aristotle turns to watch the ongoing fights.
Palthut
Palthut frowns and hands carlos his 200 GP.
will level up to 3 now.
Palthut
ok, cool! could i buy some more stuff though?
Palthut
ok, thanks
Beansidhe
I just realized, I almost forgot about my winnings!
Beansidhe approaches Tobias, "Thanks for the gold," she says, leaning against a wall. "That snake of yours is pretty tough, and that was a good fight. I'm interested to see what happens next time." She ends with her hand extended.
Aristotle Dubois
Aristotle makes a "tsk" sound as Asaakoz is betrayed by his potion.
"Reckless to gamble on a 40% chance. But I guess you can't expect one who just swings around a big stick to calculate probabilities."
By the way, I'd like to make a few Knowledge(local checks to get some details on the various opponents.
The effects of Carlos' rage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
The effects of Drogo's bloodrage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
The effects of Asaakoz's bloodrage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
An idea of Shamanita's spell list: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Beansidhe's weapon enhancement and general spell list: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Acrythe's golem arm effects and general spell list: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Boom's mutagen effects: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Tobias' summonings per day: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
I'd also like a general idea of everyone's weakest save (at least, those I passed the DC for). Tell me if you need more rolls.

While Drogo and Acrythe finish up their business we can discuss the round 2 team battle.
I've decided (as alluded to previously) that you will have access to 1/2 your level 3 gold in prep for this round. So 1k more to everyone to rekit or purchase new consumables. This means that your base net worth (not counting any consumable use or wins/losses at gambling) is at 2000. So 200 (+/- a bit) gp can go into consumables this round.
For team selection, I am going to reward the players that wrapped up their round 2 battles the fastest (RL Time fast, not game time fast).
Carlos Won in Arena B on March 29th at 12:30 AM CST
Aristotle Won in Arena A on March 29th at 6:52 AM CST
Beansidhe Won in Arena F on April 2nd
Boom! Won in Arena D on April 7th
The winner of the Acrythe v Drogo fight will pick last.
We can't start selecting teams right now since we don't know how the Drogo v Acrythe battle is going to turn out, and as such who from that grouping is selectable. But this gives you a chance to consider your selection.
The characters that will be selectable are Asaakoz, Beetly, Palthut, Tobias, and whoever loses from this last battle. Shamanita is the player that indicated that she wants to be benched unless we need a spare to even up the numbers. She is not available as a partner in this teams battle.
I guess Carlos (and the rest in order), if you already know who you want and they are selectable you can go ahead and pick them (publicly) and start talking strategy through private message.
Boom!
Boom! appears back in the main lobby and wildly looks around, "Someone owes me money!" he shouts, setting off to find Carlos, eventually holding out his hand in expectation before turning to conversation. "So, how have you fared in your fights so far?"
Palthut
What about me? I lost, should I be included in that?
Aristotle Dubois
"You're paired up with me, big guy." says Aristotle, without raising his eyes from his spellbook. "I'd suggest you to pick a decent spell layout, but I'll be happy enough if you just don't get me killed."
Boom!
Carlos hands over the money to the small gob thing. "Very good. All Quick. Hope they all go that well. You?"
Boom! quickly pockets the gold with a shrug. "Frustrating, but nothing I can't handle. Interested in how the rest of these fights are going to go as everybody gets more powerful." Boom! is surprisingly eloquent compared to your expectations for a goblin.
Palthut
Hey, Palthut know cure light woundz! Palthut prepare. Palthut have poison. Palthut no kill teammate!
Aristotle Dubois
"No. No cure light wounds. That's just a waste of time, you cast it and the enemy will just hurt you more in the meantime. Prepare something useful, like entangle."
Boom!
Eventually, Boom! wanders off to pick his teammate - obviously the other goblin - and figure out how they might best win the upcoming battle.
Palthut
"No. No cure light wounds. That's just a waste of time, you cast it and the enemy will just hurt you more in the meantime. Prepare something useful, like entangle."
"Palthut prepare spell like that, but also some cure ouchies.
Aristotle Dubois
Aristotle sighs. "I have neither the time nor the inclination to tell you how useless that would be."
Not like I have an use for the big oaf. I just didn't want my adversaries to have his spells.
Nairb the Grey
As the groups finish making purchases and preparing themselves, one of the arcane screens enlarges and focuses into an image of the next battle arena.
It looks similar in construction to the arena you were most recently in, once again depicting a gladitorial pit. This time a 20' sheer wall separates the combatants from the stands. Huge doors about 15' tall are on the North, South, East, and West sides of the walls; they appear to be hinged to swing outward, but large chains currently cover the doors. It seems that is not an effective means of escape.
Dotted around the arena large statues of heroes of old ornament the dusty battle field. The stone statues are corroded and covered with moss and lichen due to their age. Lichen also covers the walls and the pillars in the center.
Your view of the arena sweeps across to a large well in the center. Descending down the well you see a pool of bubbling acid about 110' down. As you watch it begins to rise at a rate of approximately 10' per second.
Looking over the battlemap you feel a strange tingling up the back of the neck. At first, you think it is just excitement and anticipation, but as you look down you see an ephemeral white cord connecting you to your temporary teammate.
For this next battle, you will fight in teams. As such, I have bonded your fates together. Live together and win together, or die together and fail.
---OOC talk about the arena---
Alright, so some rules. It is a similar arena to last time, but you can see some greenery in a few places that spells could be bonded to. There is plant life growing on the statues, the pillars, and the walls. The dirt in the arena appears to be devoid of life though.
The walls do not appear to be free-climbable. It would fall into the category of a typical city wall, so DC30 climb check. If you already have equipment purchased to mount the wall then that is an option you could explore. As mentioned, it is 20' high. The statues on the other hand seem easier to climb, although they are meant to be decorative instead of climbing toys. The climb check on them is only DC 15. They are 15' tall. Finding a place to stand comfortably on top would be difficult though as your footing is not sure. From atop a statue you must make a DC 15 reflex save each turn or be flat footed. If you fail by more than 5 then you fall, hitting the statue on the way down. You take 2d6 bludgeoning damage.
The pit in the center, if you fall in that it is a 100' drop to the acid. The well is flush with the ground, so no cover and very easy to be pushed in. OSHA did not inspect this arena apparently. The walls are of the same construction as the arena walls, so it is the same DC 30 climb check to make progress getting up. If you are not very CMD-ey you might want to stay away to avoid getting bull rushed in. The acid is mild, it only deals 1d4 points of damage per round. But you do need to make a DC 10 swim check each round to tread and stay above the surface. The acid is rising at a rate of 10' per round, so there is the first environmental pressure you will all face...in 10 rounds it will be spilling over into the battle field. At that point it will spread orthogonally at a rate of 5' per turn, so round one there will be an acid pool with a 5' radius, then 10', and so on.
Spirit Bound! You fate is now tied to your ally. This means you share an HP pool. Combine your hit points, that is how many you both have. If that HP pool is reduced to zero then you are both effectively at zero. You die when your combined HP is below zero equal to your con score as per usual. In this way it is technically possible for the person with the higher con score to survive and come back to life, but it is unlikely. If that does happen at that point you only have your own HP pool to work with.
I think that is it? I'm sure there will be questions. Let me know.
So...24 hours to select your day of spells and cast prebuffs. Icons will be placed in the arena around this time tomorrow and you guys can roll for initiative.
Aristotle Dubois
Aristotle groans as the rules are revealed. The situation is much less than ideal.
Had I known it, I'd have picked the goblin. At the very least, failing here won't have significant consequences.
Palthut
Aristotle, our combined HP would be 33.
"Palthut CRUSH ENEMY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Palthut
anyone know which arena (A,B,C, etc) we will be battling in?
