Other than the fungus in the middle of the room, which will make it very hard for the large animals to move through it seems relatively safe. Of course, the continual pounding of the very upset Reaver belies that feeling of safety.

that only allows her to avoid penalties to attack rolls or AC for squeezing. She is still 10x10

Will fly in on Kevin if the beast can safely fly over the fungus, otherwise will dismount and poke her head around the door.
"Oooh, that's pretty!"
Aeris Calistrel

Aeris moves a little closer to the southern end of the large central sanctuary, ready to cover the doors that his companions are investigating.

With the fungus in the middle, Large creatures will not be able to get by. Ceilings, except for the main sanctuary, are 10'
As Bo determines the door is probably safe, he opens it. This large chamber is dark and reeks of decay, barely alleviated by a gaping hole in the ceiling above. Stacked along the walls are the dismembered remains and torn armor of dozens of former soldiers and Lastwall crusaders. In stark contrast, the western wall holds an enormous font of clear water. A stone figure of a rose set into the wall spills water in a trickle into the basin. The low wall of the font is carved with a brilliant sunburst and is untouched by the vines and moss that cover the muddy floor of the room. A steel and gold helmet lays at the bottom of the font, its image shimmering beneath the subtle ripple of the font’s water.

I imagine the font and helmet radiate magic?
"I believe I have found the object of our pursuit."
The archer carefully steps into the room and takes a closer look.

Would require something like detect magic to know... ;-)
Searching the room, Bo finds a leather-bound tome, which has beautiful looking calligraphy, in a language he does not know. (celestial)

Just thought it was clear that I was maintaining this as I moved. If not, I will cast it again.

GM Silbeg

When you look at the font, with detect magic running, your vision is overwhelmed with the brilliant glow of magical energies. Everything has gone to sparkles with the immense power that you detect!
GM Silbeg

It looks like the staircase has collapsed, and it is not safe to go up there
GM Silbeg

It appears that the tome spells out some sort of cleansing ritual. It will take some time to read and perform it, should you choose to do so. You would need to do it in the presence of the font, however.
Bo and Horatio can clearly see the helmet sitting at the bottom of the holy font.
Aeris Calistrel
|
Aeris speaks Celestial also, as an aasimar, so I peeked at the spoiler.
"It'll take a while," Aeris offers, reading over Horatio's shoulder after moving into the room, "but it does seem like the thing we were sent here to do."
Looking around the room a bit, he continues, "Though I do wonder why that tome is sitting in this room. Who would bring it in here and then not use it?"
rufeo
|
Rufeo has Ki'lala stay in the main chamber and patrol the area.
"Stay right here girl. Do not need that stuff exploding all over you." He then pats the tigress on the flank and walks over.
"Well it appears we found what we were looking for. Does that books say anything about how to get it?"
Bo Goh Twang
|
The archer holds his palms up to his eyes. "The magic...so bright!" He takes a moment to shake off the effect. "Sorry, I was caught off guard by the strength of the aura. I cannot tell if it is the fountain or the helmet itself. Never have I been witness to such power."
Nana Grilka
|
"Ooh, does that say how to get rid of the taint then? We better do that."
Nana leaves Kevin with Kernuffle, so as to avoid the exploding mushrooms.
GM Silbeg
|
So, what are you doing? Are Truk and Rufeo moving in? Neither token is in the room with the font
Nana Grilka
|
"Ooh, yes, you's got to remove the taint! I's helpin' if I can, but I isn't any good with books."
"Any of you got any protective spells in case poor little reaver shows up in the middle of the ritual?"
In favour of attempting the ritual.
GM Silbeg
|
Horatio leads the team in the ritual. After ten minutes, a light flares out of the font, bathing you all in The Dawnflower's blessing! (+3 sacred bonus to AC and on all saving throws for the next 24 hours)
While the reaver is making a large racket outside, it does not make it into the sanctuary.
There is still the helmet in the water...
Aeris Calistrel
|
DM - how deep is the water the helmet is in? Just a shallow fountain, like a foot or so? I assume it is not swimming-down-to-get-the-MacGuffin deep? Assuming it's shallow enough to reach in:
Aeris steps up to the font, considers the helmet within a moment, then studies the surroundings for any unwelcome surprises.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
With that done, he glances over his shoulder and offers to his companions, "Anybody who wants to get out of the way while I do this, you better get." He then reaches in and grabs hold of the helmet.
Will give folks a chance to clear out, then see what happens when I grab the helmet...at least we'll all have decent saves now!
GM Silbeg
|
Aeris reaches into the shallow font, for the helmet. As he does, he can see a tangle of ethereal vines materialize briefly around the helmet, clutching it in place. He cannot move the helmet at all.

Some sort of ritual has bound the helmet to the font, and that it might be possible to remove the helmet by completing the ritual or desecrating the font.
Also, there was a tingling when you put your hands in the water, similar to those you get when a healing potion touches your skin.
GM Silbeg

You believe that some ritual has bound the helmet, and that completing the ritual, or destroying the font, will release it.

You are able to ascertain that the first thing that you need to do is to unwind the vines from the helmet. religion or disable device
Nana Grilka

"Dese-what-ing Aeris dear? Does you want Nana to break the taint? I's could use the Holy Mama's power, what I normally uses to punish bad people. Would that do it? You'd all have to stand well back though.
I could try Channeling negative energy. But Nana doesn't really get the whole good/evil thing.

Nana Grilka

It looks like there's only the two of us with Know (religion) then, and only a +4 bonus. Anyone got Disable Device, or a useful boon perhaps?
Otherwise, desecration is probably a simple matter for Nana to accomplish - negative energy channel, or dunking her unholy symbol in the font ought to work.
In the presence of the Helm it's 1d4 x 10 minutes for Legend Lore I think. I'm ok with that.
GM Silbeg
|
As the team contemplates the helm, and start with the ritual, they continue to hear the red reaver moving around outside, trying to get back in. They recall that there is a hole in the ceiling where they are at.
Someone needs to take lead in the ritual ;)
GM Silbeg
|
Ok. Looks like you both only have +4... and Nana is right, appears no one else has religion.
1: Bo, 2: Aeris in lead: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Lucky!
Bo, with help from Aeris, figures out how to untangle the help from the vines.
They then contemplate the missing ritual.
Now, Disable, kn:religion, kn:history

Wow, we are not a Knowledge-rich party! Given that, can we presume that Bo would have aided a skill that we actually have, like Knowledge (religion). Aeris will lead again:
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Awesome! +2 more if Bo can switch his Aid skill
Aeris approaches the completion of the ritual with surprising deftness for one so poorly educated!
Bo Goh Twang
|
Ah, missed that religion was an option. Silbeg if you don't mind, can I will switch? The bonus is the exact same. This is one of the few pit falls of PbP.
If I can switch and you want a new roll {Religion, AID}: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Aeris Calistrel
|
I just re-read my post, Bo, and it sounded much snarkier than I intended. What I was trying to convey, which matches your PbP pitfall comment, is that if we were all at a table, we'd have a quick conversation about the skills we had and roll based on that. It doesn't seem you took offense, but my apologies if my post was unkind at all - not my intent.
GM Silbeg

Aeris investigates, and after ten minutes is able to find the fail-safe woven into the ritual, and disables it. The helm slowly rises to the top of the pile!
What are Nana, Truk, Horacio, and Rufeo doing throughout this time?
