Bhoors bursts into song at the first sign of a threat. The words flow and dance off his tongue with nearly perfect pitch and even a few clever improvisations that he's added over the years. However, the heartbeats pass and nothing happens. No magical glow. No aura of fae energy. Simply words set to a tune, with the magic completely blocked or eliminated from the mix. Thin smiles appear and then widen on the drow faces as they watch the bard's puzzled expression grow.

Unmei says to her companions: "Walk in the Light. Be bold, for your are blessed!"

Cast Bless on Bhoors, Dacknar, and myself: +1d4 when rolling a d20.

""Walk in the Light. Be bold, for your are blessed!" Unmei shouts. But her words are accompanied by nothing more than the sound of her voice echoing in the room. No warm feeling of divine strength, no added sense of quickness or nimbleness. Nothing. Just an old lady shouting nonsense into the air like in any market square across the city.

Int(Arcana) DC10:
It takes you a few moments but putting two and two together you realize the magical failures are being caused by some sort of magic dampening field. Possibly a lingering precaution put in place by the towers former owner.

Arcana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Bhoors looks back. "Anti-Magic." Bhoors looks at the drow, "Smile all you want. It will match the neck designs we specialize in."

Unmei frowns deeply. Anti-magic was no small thing... But was it the Drow, or this place? Come to think on it, this would make a perfect place to hide something, or someone...

Botting Rakdon...

Bow Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Coming up behind Bhoors, Rakdon tries to snap off a quick arrow shot, but the shaft flies wide and bounces harmlessly off of the stone of the opposite wall.

The drow near the fire place pulls his hand out of the pot triumphantly holding an egg sized, glossy, greenish-gray stone. "Got it!" He exclaims moving toward the nearest arrow slit and deftly slipping up onto the narrow ledge. "Hold them off while I take the stone back."

The one near the shelf nods grimly. "Dark's Blessing brother." He says and then sends another shaft toward Dacknar that lands with a meaty thunk.

Drow Crossbow Attack vs Dacknar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Dacknar takes 9 points of damage and is now up at the end of the first round, followed by Bhoors and Rakdon then Unmei after the drow.

Male Half-Elf Bard 4 College of Blades HP 14/29 | AC 14 | Passive Perception 11 I Inspiration 1 |ACP 2 | TCP 2 Current Picture of Bhoors

Is that standing on a ledge of the window or is there some sort of balcony? Also this is broad daylight in the city correct? Is it a busy street?

No Pressure Dacknar. This is for all the marbles. You can do it!!!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The arrow slits are a bit wide (anyone of slim/medium or less size can move through), so he's actually just standing on the stone ledge. No balcony. It is daylight, but grey and drizzling. Street in this area is not teaming with people, but there are some. There is a set of single story buildings next door to the tower.

On Unmei's turn:

Unmei moves behind Dacknar and points a finger at the drow with the stone and orders: "Come to me! I beckon you!"

Cast Command, Wis DC 14.

Being slammed with with two arrows, one in his shoulder and one sticking out his hip. All the pain and blood pouring out of him, but still Dacknar only has joy in his hart. He can't remember the last time he was so happy. Happy because he finely is able to release his revenge on the dark elves that dared to defile the tavern.
But as fast as the joyful smile was on his lips, it turns to a snarl as the rage overcomes him, the image of the owlbear stuffed animal stuck to the door with a dagger. Feeling the blade in his hand as he starts to move slowly at first then like a run away cart. Dacknar crosses the room with a few strides, the over whelming blood lust rage starts to consumes him.
"For Mr. Snuggy you demon spawned sprites!" Dacknar roars. As he moves right for the drow with the stone in his hand. And in is full frenzy, he swings his sword at the dark elf.

Slashing damage: 2d6 + 3 + 2 + 10 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 + 2 + 10 = 23

He does not care if the other Drow can attack him as he moves past to get the one with the stone. Next round, if he lives, he gets two attacks. I figured he had only one shot before the death rolls so he would make his death count for something. Attack rolls against me have advantage until my next turn due to frenzy.

Does he fall? This thread has been sooooo exciting. I was planning on a full on Wolverine jump through the window swords leading and using the drow's body to cushion my fall. So Dak save me. I wanna know what happens in the window so bad.

Bhoors smirks at Dak's rage. He steps between Dacknar and the drow remaining in the room so he doesn't have another clear shot. Bhoors states to Dak, "You are vengeance let loose the fury." The bard moves in on the drow swords leading.

I was hoping for that. Thanks!

Filled with the righteous rage of revenge, Dacknar charges the drow in the window. At first the drow is able to parry the half-orc's mighty blade, but only the first blow. Lightning quick Dacknar's backstroke slashes across the drow's leg cutting deeply and nearly knocking the dark elf from the ledge.

Moving with his own cat like quickness, Bhoors steps between the two drow and Dacknar. The bard's short sword flashes in the gray daylight and the bard lands two quick blows before the dark elf is able to draw his own blade.

Rakdon fires another arrow at the drow in the window but the villains efforts to avoid Dacknar's great blade manage to help him avoid the arrow as it flies out the window.

"Go!" Shouts the drow still inside the tower to his companion. With his blade finally drawn, he turns his attention to Bhoors, a slim smile on his lips. "Let us dance then brother." He says bringing his blade to the ready. Without further warning, the dark elf lashes out, going high. Bhoors reacts and defends with a perfect textbook parry. Unfortunately that is what the skilled mercenary wanted him to do. Quickly shifting his weight back to the left, he ducks low bringing his sword with him and nasty gash opens on Bhoors leg.

Grimacing, the second drow leaps out of the window, away from the tower and Dacknar's fury. As soon as he leaves the confines of the tower the drow drops a few inches, but then begins to levitate and suddenly disappears before Dacknar's very eyes, but not before the barbarian tries to land another strike on the fleeing dark elf.

Unmei's attempt to magically command the elf simply fizzles and has no effect and the ancient wizard's safty precautions still seem to be working effectively despite having long abandoned the tower.

Bhoors takes 6 damage. Dacknar you get an AOO vs the fleeing drow. The party is up.

Bhoors winces and grits his teeth. He returns to his guard position and redoubles his efforts. "I will make sure you are buried with honor. Drow bastards still wrap themselves in manured linen." Can you clarify where the drow with the stone is?

Unmei, he just jumped out the window and disappeared. For the moment Dacknar is blocking any view to look for him.

Can I jump after him? Also, did I lose the command spell, or did I just didn't get a chance to cast it?

If Unmei can go after him:

Unmei glides past Dacknar, keeping Bhoors between her and the other Drow, and jumps through the window. If she catches sight of the Drow, she'll adjust her jump to try to grab him. If her command spell she never cast and catches sight of the Drow from the window, she'll try that instead.

With images of Mr. Snuggy hanging on the wall still floating in his mind, Dacknar's rage carries him forward as the drow leaps from the window ledge. A roar of fury escapes from the half-orc as he feels his long blade land a hit and comes back bloody once again. Just as the dark elf disappear, Unmei leaps forward and somehow manages to grasp the villain by the ankle eliciting a series of dark curses from the air outside the tower. The old woman's position is precarious though, as she hangs half in and half out of the window, wrestling with the invisible drow while the ground looms twenty feet below.

Inside the tower, Rakdon manages a hit with his bow on the one drow still inside. Using the distraction of the arrow strike to his advantage, Bhoors feints left but actually comes in from the right with two quick, vicious strikes that leave him in the perfect defensive stance and his opponent bleeding profusely from several new wounds.

Anger and pain fill the drow's eyes as he steps forward with a blurring flurry of blows of his own. Left, right, then high, he feint's and whirls with a grace and ease that is almost hypnotic at moments, if it wasn't for the deadly steel blade. Bhoors parries and dodges with all of his skill and his defensive stance manages to hold for much of the drow's furious attack. But then the dark elfs natural grace and years of practice score a win as he catches and locks the bard's blade for just a moment. The maneuver throws Bhoors defense off balance and the drow's blade opens a red wound up the half elf's side.

On the ledge, Unmei struggles to hold on to the still invisible dark elf as he kicks at her with his free leg.

"Krebs! I've got it, come help!" He shouts.

"I'm coming! Hold on!" Shouts a second voice. But this new voice did not come from inside the tower. Instead it sounded like it was coming up from the roof top next door.

TotM: Bhoors takes another 7 points. Unmei is grappling the invisible/levitating dark elf, but I'll need another Athletics check vs DC13 to maintain the grapple. She's partially filling the window space hanging half in/half out. The other dark elf is in melee with Bhoors. Party is up.

Busy keeping Unmei from falling out the window, Dacknar is unable to back up Bhoors as he tries to talk the drow into surrendering after landing one solid strike with his sword. In fact, seeing the big half-orc throw down his big blade, the dark elf renews his efforts against the jibber-jabbering bard and opens yet another small cut across Bhoors shoulder.

The looming ground disappears from her vision as Dacknar reaches out and grabs Unmei, his big hands painfully gripping her ankles as he drags her like a sack of potatoes back into the confines of the tower. As she lurches below the window ledge the priestess sees the two drow suddenly reappear as they step down onto the rooftop of the next building. The one from the tower, limps badly, bleeding profusely from several nasty wounds. The other fires a warning crossbow bolt through the window, but it clatters harmlessly against the ceiling. The two then turn and start moving quickly across the rooftops.

Rakdon fires another arrow into the melee, but the drow slips away at the last moment and the shaft shatters on the stone wall.

Unmei is back inside. Bhoors takes 5 points of damage. The other two drow are on the neighboring roof. A 10 foot leap across and 10' down. Party is up. Bhoors, you would guess that Healing Word, being a magical Evocation will not work within the tower's anti-magic field.

Would a healing potion work in the anti-magic field?

"Crap! They've got the stone, hurry!" says Unmei and she hurries down the stairs to pursue them to the next building. "We'll need prisoners if I can't follow them." she says as he hurries downstairs.

I hope that makes sense. If Unmei is certain there's no point going that way, then she'll try to uump out of the window to land on the roof instead.

Bhoors: From the PHB, "Within the sphere, spells can't be cast, summoned creatures disappear, and even magic items become mundane." Since a potion is a magic item, I'd have to say it won't work until you leave the tower.

Unmei: By going down the stairs you will certainly give them a valuable and longer head start. Make a quick Dex(Acrobatics) or Wis(Insight) roll if you want to try and guess how difficult the leap down to the other roof will be. Currently it doesn't seem all that hard.

Than he leeeeeeeeaps

Inside the Tower...

The drow grimaces as one of Bhoors' blades again slip past his own to cut deep into his dark flesh. Moments later he jerks sideways as Rakdon's blade slips around the bard and cuts into the drows shoulder. His eyes glance at the window where Unmei, Dacknar and his own companion just leapt away, then back to Bhoors and Rakdon. With a snarl he steps toward the opening keeping the others between himself and his fleeing companions. Breathing heavily he salutes the pair with his blade and then in a flurry of whirling steel too fast for the eye to really follow, closes on Rakdon and Bhoora. Initially the surprising fury of the drow's attack drives the two companions back a few steps with Rakdon taking a nasty strike that opens a long bleeding gash in the warriors legs. But as quickly as it started the enemies attack fades as his blade breaks on Bhoors own shortsword.

The pair of drow take off running across the roofof the building and manage to make another leap across to the next by the time Unmei and Dacknar make their own safe landings on the roof just below the tower. Seeing they are being followed the two dark elves hurry along, displaying the quickness and speed so common among their kind. Fortunately, a dotted trail of blood leads across the roof top, giving the pursuers at least some ability to track their quarry as they continue the chase across the rooftops of the Dock Ward.

The two drow use Dash actions. They are currently 100' away after the initial Dash. Those involved in a chase get one action plus a move each round. Actions can be dash, attacks or spells. You get 3 +CON modifier Dash actions to use before needing to make a DC10 check to avoid a level of exhaustion. At the end of each turn each participant rolls a d20 complication die.
