Figured this was too tangential for the hangout, so responding here instead.
I will make a small comment that I'm surprised Seoni attempted to pass the check to defeat the Shrieking Plant. I consider that the most beneficial barrier of MM, since once you fail it banishes itself and basically gives you an almost-Object Reading/Augury power (Examine the top 3 cards, don't shuffle, and potentially get a bonus exploration by encountering a monster). But there are some genuinely nasty Triggers out there so I can understand taking a safer approach (though I think Void Glyph is the only Trigger I'd really be concerned about at this point. And Quicksand Bunyip, but that only is in Deck C).
Thanks for the question! :) I've enjoyed examining the times that our strategies diverge.
Bonus explore: There was only 1 unknown bane left in the location (the last barrier), which would have to (a) be in the top 3 of 5 cards, (b) be a trigger, and (c) be able to be encountered or banished upon trigger. (And I suppose also (d) not have the trigger effect be so negative as to negate whatever advantage the explore gained.)
I don't have any kind of good catalogue of the MM cards, so I don't know the exact probability. But there's a clear 81% chance to simply explore again if I defeat the Shrieking Plant; and attempted and undefeated, I'd still get the examine-3 effect as if I didn't attempt.
Examining: Well, first of all, note that, at the time I was mistakenly thinking that we also needed to close the location. So examining felt less critical if all 10 cards would need to be cleared anyway.
But also, I personally tend to undervalue examining. Partially because of my preference for sorcerers, and their "handle whatever comes up" playstyle. Partially from buying in to the MM design philosophy regarding triggers. Partially just from appreciating randomness. So the reward of examining 3 cards just didn't carry enough weight for me versus the risk of triggers and the loss of a surer chance of another exploration.

Ah, yes; I wasn't counting and neglected to notice as I caught up quickly that there was no monster. I also neglected to really remember that you could use the Vault of Hidden Wisdom, since the overall majority of characters lack either skill for it so I often see it go unused.
All in all, because I foolishly overlooked two elements when scanning over the details, I completely missed the significant contextual elements that would've led my decision to match yours.
Besides Void Glyph, there aren't many barriers with the Trigger trait overall, and none that are particularly bad in my opinion. Several, like the First/Second/Third Law, are just free explores when examined (since you'd have to explore them and get the same effect anyway), some are harmless (like Malfunctioning Deathtrap) and some are non-impactful and also free explores (like The Evil Eye). Regarding that last one, note that I have a pretty hard and fast disregard for Curses, since I find most of them pretty light.
Curse of Daybane, as long as you're not in a very small party, is only causing any effect a fraction of a time for a fraction of the party. Curse of Vulnerability only does anything if you have an armor and take damage of certain types that you would otherwise be able to reduce. Curse of the Ravenous... well I'd say you need to have a stuffed discard pile and bad luck and the intent to heal later and a few turns left for it to do much bad... but in Seoni's case it's actually a legitimately terrifying Curse due to her reliance on her discard pile, so that changes that.
Any other curse is varying degrees of bad, though, of course.
All in all; I missed the key elements, and I fully agree with your decision. I will generally continue to let that think fail and provide me what would normally be considered a highly beneficial effect in most cases, naturally.

Since we are nearing the end of this scenario, here are my current deck upgrade preferences. I'm not sure what we've actually acquired, so disregard any choices that are irrelevant.
1. Item 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 454
2. Weapon 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 42
3. Armor 2 or 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 862

Item 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 834
blessing 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 151

Raheli |
Assuming Raheli is able to upgrade to Item 1...
Replace Caltrops (Item B) with Silver Raven Figurine (Item 1)
Boondage: 1d20 ⇒ 14
BR Yewstance |
You still get Boon Rolls for completed scenarios - whether you succeeded or failed, and whether you're replaying it or not.
9-00A Replay Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 1 -> I guess I win this one. I'm going to make an honest attempt at giving it to someone who wants it who's participating in AoA, before stashing another Unconventional Firepower for a future character.
Grazzle the Grubmaster |
Seems to be enough interest in other cards that Grazzle can take the item 1, Upgrading Bestiary of Garund to Binder's Tome.

Using my Blessing 2 upgrade to replace Blessing of Cayden with Blessing of Zon-Kuthon.
Also, in that last scenario I banished one of my Chain Mail cards. Instead of just putting it back in my deck, I'm going to replace it with Gambeson.

For sure taking Chronicler and Tussah Silk Coat to replace my banished Ally and Armor.
Pretty sure I'm wanting the Blessing B, if only by process of elimination. (Can't take Weapon, don't want Armor B, don't want Item B. Could start converting my spells into Fire spells, but just feels way too early to do that, especially when I'll be getting a new Spell next scenario.)
9-00C1 reward: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Nope
Raheli |
Note to Grazzle: only did a Discard 2 to heal 4 because there was a miscalculation in the sheet making it look like you still had goggles in deck.
Grazzle the Grubmaster |
Ah I missed that. Thanks. As long as Seoni doesn't die on her turn through a possible Stoneskin we should be fine overall.
Grazzle the Grubmaster |
boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 5
I'm hoping we got a blessing 1 since that is my last real upgrade.
Card feat will be Spell and I'm adding Fire Snake.

Ok, just reviewed my card options and I think I want an Item 1 (Quick-Change Mask) to replace Staff of Minor Healing and a Blessing 2 (Blessing of Maat) to replace Blessing of Gorum. Do those seem like good choices?
Blessing 2: 1d1000 ⇒ 102
Item 1: 1d1000 ⇒ 96
Blessing B: 1d1000 ⇒ 54
Raheli |
To Recap..
Grazzle
Upgrade: Ally or Blessing B, Not determined?
Reward: Blessing 1
Basic for Card Feat: Fire Snake
Valeros(these 2 can be switched, but organized this way gives Raheli her favored outcome)
Upgrade: Item 1
Reward: Blessing 2
Seoni
Upgrade: Spell B
Reward: ?
Raheli
Upgrade: Blessing 2
Reward: Ally 1
Meaning there's an upgrade Item 1 available but not taken!
Valeros Z. |
Confirming that I'm upgrading two cards in my deck:
1. Item 1 Quick Change Mask replaces Staff of Minor Healing
2. Blessing 2 Blessing of Maat replaces Blessing of Gorum
Which of these changes is a regular card upgrade based on loot earned and which is due to the special upgrade earned at the end of the last scenario, I leave up to the needs of the other players for their upgrades.
Hope this is all ok and doesn't interfere with anyone else's planned upgrades. Let me know if so.
