Ursahla |
REFLEX: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18 Sigh, seriously?
Well, I can't afford to have my gear destroyed, so I guess I'm using my folio reroll on that.
REFLEX: 1d20 + 17 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 17 + 3 = 27
Ursahla swims forward and does use her freebooter's bane against Razethka.
Seldanna Marzanna |
REFLEX Seldanna: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
REFLEX Lonan: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 19
Lonan Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Singed badly by the dragon's acidic breath, Seldanna is relieved to see that Lonan has managed to escape being caught by its breath. "Head back from where we came Lonan. I'll pick you up when we're done!"
Kelumur |
my favourite kind of save.
reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 Err, reroll it is!
reflex,folio: 1d20 + 13 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 13 + 3 = 31 evasioned it.
Anticipating the advances early, Kelumur uses his nimble reflexes to dodge the incoming blows including that of the breathe weapon.
Lonan the raven |
"CAAAAAAW! What you say, mistress? CAAAAAW!" Lonan calls back, already halfway out the door.
Improved Evasion from Lonan to avoid all the damage.
GM supervillan |
Kelumur, no reflex save needed from you - I annotated the initiative tracker wrongly, my bad. You still have your re-roll.
Otto the sahuagin that attacked you only took a 5' step (swim), so no AoO.
Seldanna did you calculate Lonan's Reflex save correctly? Should that -1 be -3, from the DEX damage?
As Kramac and Jino approach Razethka, she snaps at the incoming rider:
"I liked you better when you were appropriately deferential, half-orc!"
Razethka AoO vs Kramac, bite: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 5) + 13 = 19
The mounted warrior evades the dragon's maw, and his steed gores the serpent. "Gah! What devious treachery! How dare you!" she cries, clearly perturbed by the beast.
The sahuagin behind the coral screens also thrusts his trident at Jino as the rhino swims past him:
AoO vs Jino: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 - 2 = 25concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 95damage: 1d8 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
But the rhino goes by too quickly...

Oops, sorry. Misread/misremembered that the DEX was only -3 to the stat (an effective -1 to his DEX roll), not a -3 to the modifier. In that case, will try a shirt reroll with GM bonus.
REFLEX: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 - 3 + 2 = 18
Oh no! That means Lonan is completely dead. Any chance he could take the Swim roll as his reroll instead, as that would have been the reroll dice had I correctly read the DEX penalty? The last roll then for his swim check? :)
Kramac |
. Doesn't improved evasion mean he only takes half on a failed save? If he has 25 hp, he should still be alive. Even if he takes full damage, surely he has more than 8 con?
Lonan the raven |

Ah yes, that is true! He will only take half on a fail. PHEW! 33 would kill him, however, I think. He's only a little bird after all. He has 8 CON.

Kelumur |
Realizing the threat to be far more than he can handle in this environment, Kelumur falls back to assist with dealing of the brine dragon. Swimming acrobatically, he turns and tumbles around the brine dragon to create a turbulence around Razethka.
Swim Acrobatically to avoid AoO, Blind!
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Improved Greater Dirty Trick (Blind) vs CMD: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Seldanna Marzanna |
Seldanna, her own blood seeping out around her from the nasty wounds inflicted upon her by the dragon's breath, casts the beast a glare of reproach. "You might be the big fish in this small pond, but how would you like to be a small fish in the ocean?". She sends off a potentially debilitating spell towards the creature before swimming down one of the corridors so as to spread out from the rest of the party.
Cast Baleful Polymorph to turn the dragon into a small barracuda. Checking a Pathfinder Excellence boon box to roll twice for Caster Level check against the dragon's spell resistance.
Caster Level Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Caster Level Check 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Otto steps back from the sahuagin threatening him through the screen and casts Calm Animals at the sharks.

GM supervillan |
Kelumur, you'll need a second Acrobatics check - one gets you away from the sahuagin, then you need another to avoid Razethka's bite.
Kelumur's acrobatic antics do not perturb Razethka.
Seldanna throws a potent spell at the dragon.
Razethka vs polymorph (Fort): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Razethka vs polymorph (Will): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Oh, that's cruel! She's a fish, who knows she's a dragon! But having made the Will save, she retains her extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities. So the fight isn't quite over, but it doesn't look good for the big bad!
Razethka twists and contorts, shrinking in size, and becomes a toothy fish no bigger than a gnome! But an evil glare is apparent in her gaze!
Meanwhile, Otto attempts to subdue the sharks...
Lilac Shark Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Green Shark Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Blue Shark Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Two of the sharks lose interest in the captives, but the third continues to harass them.
The dragon/fish snaps at Jino, for having had the temerity to injure her. Jino and Kramac respond, but find that they cannot catch the fish!
barracuda nibble vs Jino, shaken, bwg: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 20 + 2 - 2 - 2 + 2 = 28damage: 1d4 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
That looks to be a hit - I don't think you factored the Size penalty into Jino's armour class, Kramac.
The dragon/fish nips Jino and holds on, biting hard before the rhino shakes her loose.
The two Sahuagin exchange glances. The one closest to Otto swims back 5' step, and both ready their tridents as they watch their new leader Razethka's struggles.

bite AoO, shaken: 1d20 + 20 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 20 - 2 = 20damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 6) + 13 = 21

Wicked Razethka! Your time is at an end. I would ask what is proper deference to a fish... but I doubt you could answer!
GM supervillan |
Kramac and Jino have a hard time trying to land a blow on Razethka in her new body, with only one of the half-orc's flurry of stabs connecting. And yet, an unseen hand guides Kramac: his blade catches the dragon/fish in a vulnerable spot (that she probably never knew she had), and he and his mount press the advantage. A second deadly bane-strike lands, and Jino's horn too! The dragon/fish goes limp! Razethka is dead! Seeing this, the two Sahuagin flee immediately...
"Let us pass! We will tell the rest of the tribe not to interfere!"
You forgot the long-lasting Bless spell gifted to the party for restoring the temple - and that last +1 bonus was needed to confirm the crit, which then led to your AoOs finishing Razethka off.
Combat over!
You can easily dispatch the one still-hostile shark before it kills a hostage.
I will put up a 'wrap-post' in several hours.

It absolutely does - see edited post above :)

With Razethka defeated the sahuagin of the Lambent Bloom pose no further threat to you, nor to Vialesk. You free Zahra and the two surviving maridar from their bindings before Otto's enchantment of the sharks expires. Zahra is most grateful, and apologetic for not having foreseen Razethka's betrayal.
Aquel thanks you for cleansing the temple. She takes back Thundergale before announcing that her task is completed, and departing for Nirvana.
You leave the shell of Riam behind. Untethered from the Breath of Lysianassa, it begins to drift away. You use the magic of the holy relic to grant yourselves Water Breathing until you return to Vialesk.
Back in Vialesk a great funeral feast is held to commemorate those maridar lost in the expedition, but the tone is one of celebration and thanksgiving. After the feast, coral sculptures are commissioned in your honour.
Back at the Grand Lodge, when you eventually return to Golarion and Absalom, Master of Spells Sorrina Westyr personally thanks you for bringing such a powerful artifact under Pathfinder influence.
And Otto receives an invitation to meet with Zarta Dralneen for a 'personal debriefing'...
Congratulations pathfinders! You achieved the maximum possible degree of success, by recovering the Breath of Lysianassa as well as Riam's egg, and saving Zahra and the hostages. Otto gets a Dark Archive boon for completing Zarta's ritual, and you all receive a boon for impressing Aquel. I'll get chronicle sheets done in the next few days.
