Berato Aquilinus
|
Touch of Good on Vindler (+2 sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round; stack with Bess for a total of +3 so far)
Marcus Volso
|
Marcus moves through the room, sliding behind the devil to help surround it.
Double move into flanking position for Vindler, will provoke an AOO if it is able to take one.
Elaril
|
Careful to ration his magic and not knowing how many more of these devils are around, Elaril watches them carefully.
Ready Ear Piercing Scream vs whichever devil recovers from Blindness first.
Sonic Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

Thrum!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 1 = 1
Vegazi's arrow finds its mark again, though it only barely scratches the Lemure. The devils swing about wildly, but don't know where their enemies are.
Will (R)!: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Will (B)!: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Anthys smashes the first into the ground without remorse, while the second continues to flail wildly.
Order 1st round
Elaril, Marcus, Berato, Vegazi
Lemures [B: -1 [blinded]]
Vindlér, Anthys
Vindlér Far-seer
|
Vindler hustles past Berato, nodding to the priest in thanks for his blessing. He raises his axe and hopes to himself that the attack does some good, despite his lack of a silvered weapon.
Cold Iron Battleaxe, magic weapon, bless, touch of good, flank: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 21 Damage, magic: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
Marcus Volso
|
Marcus pokes at the blind fiend, drawing its attention and leaving an opening for Anthys to strike.
Aid Another, Anthys Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
+5 to hit for Anthys next attack
Standard Action: Aid Another
Berato Aquilinus
|
Berato moves ahead, and takes a swipe at the fiend with his consecrated silverhammer.
whammo?: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 bludgeoning silver dmg.
Elaril
|
Elaril grins as Anthys turns the first devil into mincemeat. He keeps a beady eye on the remaining one, ready to incapacitate it should it’s sight return.
Ready Ear Piercing Scream if the devils sight returns
Sonic Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7
| GM Fez |
Berato's attack leaves the devil on its last legs, giving Vegazi an opening to try and finish it.
Thrum!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 - 1 = 8
Her arrow takes it in the throat causing it to collapse and begin dissolving with its brethren. Vegazi turns to everyone, lowering her bow. "Let's find these artifacts, then prepare for a major fight, it doesn't sound like it is dying down out there." This is your friendly GM hint to gather your gear.
Anthys
|
Yeah, I get the hint. Anthys will take a few minutes to strap on his plate armor. In the future I will keep a scroll of Swift Girding for Elaril to use on Anthys.
Perception, Scion: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15
"Berato, would this buckler be useful for you? I'd like to take one of those magic oils. Elaril or Marcus, do either of you want the crossbow?"
Anthys retrieves his gear and begins donning his armor, asking for assistance where needed.
Vindlér Far-seer
|
"Aye, and I could really use the other oil," Vindler says grumpily. "My crossbow isn't near as accurate as I'd like it to be, and I'm afraid I didn't have the foresight you lads did to get a proper melee weapon in silver."
Returning upstairs to grab the rest of my gear as well.
| GM Fez |
The mod author made several assumptions that good roleplayers (i.e. you guys) don't exactly follow. I just don't want you going into what is essentially the mid-boss of part 1 nekkid.
Once your group is out of the tavern, the extent of the chaos in Arwyll Stead becomes much clearer: townsfolk run through the streets, flocks of gaavs assail buildings and innocents, and lemures pour down the cobblestone avenues in a scene of almost total anarchy.
You are hailed by Mayor Proum, decked out in armor and with a sword and shield in hand, surrounded by several guards. He hurriedly tells you that the leader of the raid was seen running down the streets toward the catacombs. With the town’s guards occupied keeping order and fending off devils outside, he has few other options than to turn to outsiders for help clearing out the monsters from the town’s sacred burial chambers. "If any of you are hurt you can head to the temple of Iomedae for some healing. The priest there may be able to give you some equipment to help with the threat. Please protect our town," is the last thing he says as he rushes off with the guards in tow.
Berato Aquilinus
|
I will take the +1 buckler yes! that will free up my left hand for casting or ranged weapons, etc.
Berato helps Anthys with his armor; Anthys helps Berato with his; same for Vindler and Marcus I suppose. All geared up, Berato casts shield other on Anthys, and tells him not to get further than 35 feet from Berato, else the enchantment will cease. Berato tells the others not to be heroes and let Anthys and Berato soak up most of the blows, "Don't be reckless; let's stay in a tight formation; and leave a spot behind Anthys open for me at all times.
Anthys: shield other duration 4 hours; +1 deflection bonus to AC and a +1 resistance bonus on saves; half the damage you take goes to Berato.
Elaril
|
Elaril snags the Scroll of Daze Monster, a crossbow (if noone else wants it) and the rest of his gear before following the team downstairs.
Vindlér Far-seer
|
Vindler bashes axe on shield and nods to the mayor. "Anthys and I are soldiers of Lastwall, and we stand with her people. Rest assured, mayor, we will not let this town fall!"
Definitely interested in stopping by the temple first. I don't think any of us took much damage, if any, but if they have any gear that would helpful, it could only help.
Anthys
|
"I have but a few scratches. I wouldn't mind the healing, but even more than that I'd like the priests to ask the Inheritor's favor on us."
Anthys is fairly devout for a fighter, and a follower of Iomedae.
| GM Fez |
Heals!: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
The cleric at the temple, Ovir, blasts out a quick burst of positive energy over you then hands you a bundle of five raining arrows filled with holy water. Having given you what he can Ovir tells you where the catacombs are then rushes over to the next bunch of guardsman in need of healing.
Diving under the earth, Arwyll Stead’s catacombs are broad and impressive, with 15-foot-tall ceilings throughout. Empty sconces line the walls every 20 feet, clearly there because there is no other light source down here. As you travel further it gets harder to see, except for Vegazi and Vindlér with their natural darkvision.
Once a light source is made/determined
You travel down a large hallway, echoes from ahead being confused and jumbled, making it sound like there is an army down here. After travelling about 150 feet underground a large obstruction appears. A pile of boulders, broken rock, and rubble blocks the main passageway through the catacombs where the ceiling collapsed. On either side of the hallway, five-foot-wide passages lead into other areas. So, are you heading north or south?
Anthys
|
"Let's find the leader of this raid. Can anybody see any tracks?"
Perception, Scion: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15
Survival is also a +5.
Marcus Volso
|
Marcus bends over to examine the tracks Anthys points out, nodding slowly. "I agree. The footprints there look almost like someone is being followed. Let us start there."
Anthys
|
Where would we have been when we heard that sound? If we're all the way in the central C3 room and can see the thing east of us, Anthys would prefer to take the center-right square (between the sarcophagi) with a row of PCs behind him. If we heard it earlier, Anthys might still be in the corridor heading from C1 into C3. He would prefer to lead the way due to his high AC.
| GM Fez |
As you were about to step into the first C3 room, so just before you'd be able to turn your head and see the thing.
Berato Aquilinus
|
Knowledge the Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Berato relates the information in regards to the zebub, "They're Hell's little spies, if I remember correctly... hmm... perhaps we can learn a thing or two from this one, before we do the usual 'forced exorcism by way of repeated silver application'?"
Anthys
|
"How? You command devils now? If it surrenders and offers to talk, I'll let you handle it."
Anthys starts to move towards the devil, drawing the silver warhammer.
Time to roll initiative? I moved the icons to where I think they would be if we were heading into C3.
| GM Fez |
Berato: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Marcus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Vindlér: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Elaril: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Vegazi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Zebub: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
The Zebub appears to have heard your party approaching, and turns mid-air toward you. It shoots Anthys a devilish grin before disappearing. You can hear the fluttering of wings as it moves elsewhere.
Order 1st Round
Zebub
Elaril, Anthys, Marcus, Vegazi, Vindlér, Berato
Marcus Volso
|
"Well, that's not a good sign. We should stick together, but hurry in case it went to warn someone...or something."
Marcus will move out after Anthys if he moves; Anthys, go ahead and move me into position if you move up. If he doesn't need to double move to stick with the group, Marcus will ready an action to Aid AC on whoever gets attacked in range.
Anthys
|
"Can anybody see invisible foes? Or if we can hear approximately where it is, would Elaril's Glitterdust reveal it?"
We found a scroll of See Invisibility here. I assume either Vindlér or Elaril has it.
Elaril
|
Glitterdust will reveal it assuming I can cast in the right place.
Elaril would probably have claimed the scroll unless Vindler specifically wanted it.
If Elaril has it & noone else has any great issues, he will retrieve and read it for his turn and point out the creature to everyone else assuming he can see it.
30 minutes of See Invisibility... Go!
Anthys
|
Anthys moves up to attack where indicated by the wizard.
Readying an attack for when either Berato or Marcus moves up so I can use Scion. Berato had indicated a preference for a spot behind Anthys, and Marcus said to move him up as well, but there is only one spot there. I think Berato might be better if he is going to use Touch of Good or something.
MW Warhammer, Scion, PA: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 15

01-50 Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 88
Marcus Volso

Marcus moves to follow Anthys, leaving a clear position for Berato to stand behind Anthys in the formation.
Double move to get in position due to difficult terrain.
Berato Aquilinus
|
Touch of Good on Anthys (+2 sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round)
| GM Fez |
Vegazi rushes forward as Elaril points out where the enemy is, arrow aimed and ready to see her opponent.
With the force of Torag behind him Anthys is just able to crush his oppoenent, leading to a horrible retching sound and a spatter of blood appearing on the ground before him.

Between his training, the blessings of Torag, and his faith in Iomedae, Anthys easily shrugs off the fiend's magic.
"Elaril, where did it go?"
Maybe Vindlér got his notifications turned off?
Marcus Volso
|
Is the Zebub visible now after it cast grease? I think Marcus would be able to see it from his current position if so.
| GM Fez |
Yep. Entirely forgot that the Zebub has regular invis rather than greater. Anthys you get an AoO on it as it flies away. Vegazi also uses her readied action.
Thrum!: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 = 16
Vegazi's arrow slips in the space between Anthys and the fly looking devil.

Then it realizes it didn't move quite far enough away, as the Lastwall soldier closes in on it and takes another swing.

Well that's a miss.

Standard: Draw silver short sword and attack.
Vindlér Far-seer
|
Vindler follows his companions further into the catacombs, his shield and axe held at the ready. "Sorry lads," he says as he comes running up behind them, "My mind was elsewhere. Must've gotten sidetracked thinkin' of some other fights."
Double move
Sorry for the absence! Back into the fray!
Elaril

Elaril advances with the rest of the team and lets loose with an Ear Piercing Scream at the devil.
