Theo hadn't had a chance to act against the mutated individual and kept quiet during the discussion. Partly because it seemed the others had it in hand, but also because he didn't want to risk inadvertently retching at the sight.

The fanged individual, on the other hand, was much easier to face.

"Careful there, you might chip a tooth," he said, hoping to distract him a little as he called the fire.

Burning Arc Damage, DC17 Reflex for half: 8d6 + 8 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2) + 8 = 24

Nime wrote:

Nime steps forward and looks down at the perversion of life. Tears flow from her eyes. "You poor man," she says before brutally plunging her glaive into his faltering heart. "I saved him," she says, looking up at Shenuska.

The image is vivid in the oracle's mind as she steps forward. She looks with curiosity at the weapon held in her hands before handing it to the Psychic. She drops to her knees and places her hands on the distorted flesh, allowing the spark that always lingers just under her skin to pass through to keep him alive.

She rises to her feet and retrieves her weapon. "He's saved," she lies, before walking away.

It wouldn't take much for someone much less perceptive than Shenuska to see Nime's distress and the psychic accepts the glaive and reaches into the undine's mind at the same time.

Detect Thoughts Nime, DC15. Up to you to decide what Shen learns (if anything).

"Vampire." Shenuska states confidently, "Or near one." With a thought she speeds her companions, giving them the agility to match the vampiric creature.

Haste.

Will DC 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Oh no you don't. ;) No traipsing around through Nime's thoughts for you, Missy! If you want to know what she's thinking, you'll have to find out the old fashioned way. ;P

She swings around to flank with Rudrik, smiting the man with a holy fervor!

ADVENTURE PATH COMPLETE

"Hoho, you think you're so tough?" Rudrik taunts the undead. He waves his sword easily around and says, "Yeah you may be dead, but you can get deader."

With a sudden swing he takes advantage of Calendula's positioning.

1. Bastard sword attack, haste bonus, flanking: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 14 + 1 + 2 = 19
2. Bastard sword haste extra attack, haste bonus, flanking: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 14 + 1 + 2 = 19
3. Bastard sword iterative attack, haste bonus, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 22

I presume those all miss.

Its AC is 20 so the last one hits.

Damage: 1d10 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 6 + (4, 2) = 20
Reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

The creature dodges some of Theodric's burning arc. Calendula smites the man with a trio of holy strikes, and as it reels, Rudrik delivers the finishing blow! The man's body twists and warps as he falls, revealing his true form--a spindly, skeletal humanoid whose head is mostly mouth.

Knowledge (religion) DC 17:
This creature was a totenmaske, an undead creature that drinks the flesh of the living and can sssume the identities of those it feeds upon.

With the creature's defeat, you can focus on the strange skull and the circle of sigils.

Knowledge (arcana) DC 25:
You identify the setup here as a necromantic ritual designed to bind a ghost to the area surrounding the Gecko while also barring the ghost from entering the Gecko. Destroying the skull would end the ritual and likely prevent the ghost from rejuvenating.

RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism

Knw R: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Knw A: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

"This is the basis of the ritual that binds the ghost here." Shenuska concludes after a few minutes of examination. "If someone would be kind enough to smash the skull that should be enough to end the effect and prevent the ghost from ever reforming again. We'll still have to destroy its actual form though."

---------------
On the way out Shenuska lays a gentle hand on Nime's arm. "Are you all right Nime? You seemed... troubled... by Isiah."

Without another word, Nime brings the end of her polearm down, smashing the skull to fragments.

~~~
On the way out ...
Nime looks at her friend and then frowns. "Oh, Shen ..." she says with a sigh. "I'm troubled by so many things lately." She gestures down towards the bottom of her thigh. "I've got a rash starting right there." She shakes her glaive. "This stupid thing is way too heavy. You're all going to die. And I'm hungry."
She stops to look Shenuska in the eye. "I only see two paths, Shenuska. The first path is heartbreaking. I love with all my being, like I'm supposed to. But when Ca- ... when you all die, it'll be like having my soul ripped out again. I can't bear the thought of it. I don't think I have the strength to survive it again."
Her face clouds over.
"The other path is ... worse. I close my heart off. Keep it safe. Protect it." She glances up at the curved blade of her weapon. "But that path leads me to become something darker. That path scares me."
Nime looks back at Shenuska and smiles, bittersweetly. "Those are the only paths I can see, Shen. And I don't know upon which to tread." One hand reaches down to scratch just above and inside her knee. "And this rash is starting to itch."
"Well the itch you'll have to deal with by yourself." The psychic replies lightly, as though she's never been troubled by such things - and its actually possible that she hasn't...
"As to the other problem you don't give some of us enough credit." She responds calmly. "I have no intention of dying for at least as long as your lifespan, if not longer. With sufficient study and control there is no reason that we cannot renew our bodies indefinitely - I fully intend to do so until I have accomplished everything I wish to on this plane and those beyond." She says it quite calmly, as though discussing ones plans for immortality is perfectly normal.
"Sorshen says she wants to help - but she's sending us towards another Runelord and somehow I feel it won't be the only one. We're doing her work for her and there will be a reckoning for that, I don't doubt. One way or another I will be prepared to face her one day - this is my body, not hers. But as to love... is your life worthwhile without it?" Shenuska shoots Nime a knowing glance. "Your heart is too large to contain Nime - if you try to shut down, to close yourself off then you will no longer be Nime. We both know what happens to those that close themselves off from the world - they become lonely and sad and then they reach out in the most inappropriate ways and they are simply hurt more. You knew Ieldana, if she'd been more loving, more open, more like you then she would never have died." A short pause follows. "I think there is only one path - it will involve pain, but life without pain is not life at all."
Nime considers Shenuska's words.
"You speak wisdom, Shen. However, I fear that at times life can carry enough pain that to continue living is untenable." The oracle smiles. "But that is not today." She gives the psychic a hug. "Today I must remind myself that we are victorious and all that is left is to lay a ghost to rest." Her head tips to the side. "I've never done that before. Should we find a nice bed for her?"
Oops, reading the rejuvenation ability more closely, it seems that smashing Xanesha's skull will immediately put her to rest. So congratulations on avoiding a very difficult encounter!
You emerge from the Gecko piling without further incident, confident that the spirit of the lamia Xanesha has moved on to whatever awaits her in the Great Beyond. You feel your recent experiences have strengthened your resolve, and you feel better prepared for the dangers yet to come.
Everybody has gained enough XP to reach level 9! It's late afternoon. What would you like to do next?
RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism
Just as they emerge from the Gecko Shenuska slaps her hand to her forehead. "Of course! That's why I couldn't stop thinking about it! The Plague is a bodily corruption! All I need to do is link with him and force the corruption out!"
She promptly turns around to go back in. "I can fix Isiah, we don't need a scroll. Just give me a few minutes."
Shen will go back to Isiah and hit him with Break Enchantment - as long as he refrains from trying to eat her! Should only take a couple of minutes.
Take a Scooby-Snack! :)
Shenuska Caster Level: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Shenuska gives Isiah some more food to quell his hunger as she concentrates on her newly discovered ability. After several minutes she reaches out and pours the psychic energy into his twisted body, purging the corruption from it. He gasps as his monstrous shape withers away, leaving him fully human once again!
"Thank you! Thank you!" he cries, throwing his arms around Shenuska. "I am in your debt. It may take me some time, but I promise I will repay you for saving my life!"
Plans
We need to update the council on what we've found and arrange for transport to Riddleport.
Once that's done, Nime would like to pay a visit to Ayavah's studio to see her statuary before the group leaves.
You inform the Sihedron Council of your findings in the Gecko. They agree that your top priority should be traveling to Riddleport and stopping the Yamasoth cultists from acquiring the scrolls of true resurrection they need to resurrect Runelord Krune! Fortunately, Captain Sursha and Tyalee's Whim are still available as a means of transport. It's an eight-day journey to Riddleport via ship, giving you a day to spare if you want to make it there in time to foil the cultists' plot.
With arrangements made, Nime (and whoever else wants to go) returns to Underbridge and the Irespan's Harpy piling, where Ayavah has her studio. Exquisite and unusual carvings of the winged creatures decorate the piling's exterior, and inside, the small complex is filled with the tiefling's beautifully sculpted statuary. Though there are a few exceptions, the majority of them depict pairs of succubi entwined in various romantic poses. The artwork straddles the line between tasteful and tawdry.
Ayavah herself greets you with a smile. "I'm glad you could make it! I trust you dealt with the dangers inside the Gecko without too much trouble?"
RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism
"Yes," Shenuska replies, although most of her attention is on the statues. "These are quite remarkable. Tell me, are you using human subjects for proportion or not?" As a connoisseur of the human form she seems genuinely interested in the subject.
Ayavah nods. "Indeed. I try to make my sculptures as true to life as possible." She gives Shenuska an appraising look. "I would love to have you pose for me some time, when time isn't a pressing factor. Runelord Sorshen's--that is, your body is simply exquisite. You would be the perfect model for a rendering of the Redeemer Queen herself."
"You have an incredible eye," Nime says, wandering through the displayed artistry. "I see you prefer succubi taking the female form." She stops and lightly touches a bare stone shoulder. "The male form can be just as sensuous, but we all have our preferences."
Her attention turns to Ayavah herself and she approaches the sculptor. "Shenuska is quite exquisite. She would make a divine subject of study," Nime says with a smile.
"Have you ever considered a study of tieflings, though? They can be deliciously arousing as well. With their agile tails and graceful horns." She moves closer to Ayavah. Closer than would be considered proper in polite society. Her nostrils flare as she takes in the tiefling's scent. One hand reaches out to touch one of the curving subjects of her comment, but as at their first meeting, stops just short.
"May I?" Nime asks, her face only inches from the woman. Her voice low and her eyes dark.
Ayavah's breathing has become shallow, and she licks suddenly dry lips. She nods slowly. "Go ahead," she says.
Nime's long fingers cross the almost non-existent distance to touch the twisting shapes. She follows the curves with her fingertips and her eyes. "They're beautiful," she says softly. Her eyes return to Ayavah's. "You're beautiful."
Her eyes dark, Nime smiles. "Consent is very important in this world," she says. Her eyes move down to the tiefling's lips and then back up. "May I?" she asks again.
Ayavah gives Nime another nod. The tiefling's tail coils around the undine's leg, seemingly having a mind of its own.
Nime smiles again and her delicate fingers take a sudden firm grip on the horn they had been touching. The tiefling's head held in place, Nime presses her lips hungrily against Ayavah's. "Mmmm," she moans against her. The kiss continues as moments turn to minutes. Eventually, knowing the tiefling has to breathe at some point, Nime releases her.
"I'm very aroused right now," the Undine says needlessly. "And I'm sure Shenuska is as well. But most people limit themselves to one partner at a time. Do you fall into that category? If so, I totally understand." She leans down and kisses just under the woman's jaw. She continues speaking as her lips move down to Ayavah's collarbone. "I can leave you and Shenuska alone if you'd like. Or if you'd rather just pleasure yourself we can both be on our way. There's no shame in that."
Nime returns her lips to lightly touch Ayavah's again. "What would you like?" she asks, her words speaking against the tiefling's cracked lips.
"I want you," Ayavah whispers. "Both of you," she says more loudly. "And, as I alluded to earlier, I am in fact...uniquely equipped to handle both of you at once."
During the makeout session, Nime couldn't help but notice something solid pressing against her from within Ayavah's dress...
It may be time to move this to NSFW spoilers or PMs.
Yeah, probably should go to PMs ;)
The trio of women spend quite some time exploring each others' bodies and enjoying each other's company. Eventually, they reach the limits of their stamina, lying beside each other exhausted but contented.
Nime takes Ayavah in an embrace and give her a soft kiss. "You are so beautiful. And being true to yourself is the source of that beauty," she says with a grin. "Shenuska and I would love to stay longer, but we need to begin our journey to Riddleport - we have to save the world." She kisses the woman again. "If either of us make our way back to Magnimar, we will certainly find some time to spend with you again."
"Or you could come with us." Shenuska says, "I don't know what the Redeemer Queen says about hunting down cultists and stopping plagues but I can guarantee you excitement and plenty of time for me to pose for that statue you wanted. I'm going to be embarking on a sculpture of my own soon too, and I could really use an expert to... assist me." Her smile is laden with promise. "And I speak from experience when I say that Nime recovers her appetites very quickly."
She slides back into her dress, the movements as precise as are all of her actions. "I once knew an elven woman who loved books, she owned a bookshop and barely ever set foot outside it. She was sweet and kind, but knew nothing of this world, barely even lived in it. She died, suddenly when she was trying to see what the world had to offer. I know you're talented." She gestures easily to the statues, "But she was too and I would hate for you to miss out on life the way she did. Come with me Ayavah. See the world at my side."
Ayavah is quiet for a while as she considers the request. "Your offer is a tempting one. I had originally planned to help my fellow Redeemer Queen followers establish her first monastery in the world. But... I believe the goddess caused our paths to cross for a reason. I can't promise to commit to traveling across the world, but I'll go with you to Riddleport, at least. We will see how things develop from there."
"That would be splendid," Nime says as she pulls on her shorts. "You'll like Captain Sursha - she's fun. Although, I get the impression that she's serially monogamous so not that kind of fun."
She gathers the rest of her gear.
"You don't get seasick, do you?"
Made a minor mistake earlier. Ayavah doesn't have a tail, just horns.
"I don't know, I've never been on a ship before," Ayavah admits. "It will be an eye-opening experience, to be sure."
Awww... That had ... possibilities. ;)
The next morning, Captain Sursha welcomes you back aboard Tyalee's Whim. With Ayavah in tow, you set sail north along the Lost Coast, heading to Riddleport. The voyage is uneventful, though enjoyable for Nime who once more shares quarters with the captain herself.
Riddleport is is the third-largest city in Varisia and its most northern port. It is located on the northwestern coast of Varisia, where the mouth of the Velashu River forms a natural cove off the Varisian Gulf. Placed between two large rocky bluffs, each over 300 feet in height, the city occupies both banks of the river.
Also known as the City of Cyphers, Riddleport takes its name from the Cyphergate, a giant stone arch spanning the natural cove around which the city is built. It is covered on both sides with ancient Thassilonian symbols, although their exact meaning is unknown. An entire order of wizards known as the Order of Cyphers was established to study the ancient relic's mysteries.
Tyalee's Whim passes under the massive arch before pulling in to dock along the city's wharves. You can spot several landmarks from here: the Order of Cyphers' headquarters, the Gold Goblin gambling hall, a massive arena, the Gas Forges where dwarves smelt adamantine and other rare metals, and the infamous temple of Calistria known as the House of the Silken Veil.
RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism
Since Nime is largely occupied with Captain Sursha, Ayavah and Shenuska spend quite a lot of time together. Much of it involves Shenuska standing stock still while Ayavah draws her, occasionally barking commands for the psychic to change her stance. Shen spends most of this time reading the golem manual, turning the pages back and forth with flickers of mental power.
More time is spent in examining the manual, with both women's heads pressed close together as they discuss details and annotate diagrams. Theo and Nime are both press ganged into helping at various points, to consider feasibility or make suggestions for further improvements.
Shenuska meanwhile doesn't neglect her exercise, continuing to climb the rigging with the crew and swim in the ocean when the opportunity arises. Her private 'workout' sessions with Ayavah in the evenings appear to be quite thorough as well...
---------------
Arriving in Riddleport Shenuska taps her feet impatiently. "We have perhaps a day until the cult launches their attack, if our information is correct. We should find and speak to this Chet fellow and warn him about what's going on."
I know his name, Shen doesn't care. :)
Nime spends the days ensconced in the crow's nest, ascending there on diaphanous wings before dawn and descending after sunset. She feels the happiness fill her as Shenuska seems to have found someone that can give her joy.
The few nights she doesn't spend in Captain Sursha's cabin are spent in Calendula's bunk. Her friend no longer needs her to keep her warm, but Nime still enjoys the closeness. The plutonic relationship seems to give her at least as much pleasure as her physical frolics with the half-elf.
~~~

"His name is Clegg Zincher," Nime says with an indulgent smile. "And, yes, we should talk to him as soon as possible. Perhaps we can acquire the scrolls from him before this vile woman."

As one of the major crime bosses in the rough-and-tumble city, tracking down Clegg Zincher is no trouble at all. His tenement is a fortified, five-story building located in Riddleport’s Leeward District on the city’s eastern side. The building itself is a grand, lonely, place—a foreboding townhouse made of stone and hefty timbers with a steeply gabled rooftop featuring a widow’s walk. Dozens of metal-grilled windows, many with closed shutters, provide a well-defended view over Riddleport.

The iron doors are all locked up tight, but each features a fancy bellpull to announce arrivals. A tug on the bellpull results in a nervous-looking man answering it after a short delay. He slides open the door’s peephole and says in a shrill voice, “Master Zincher is seeing no guests at this time.”

"Oh, please, we really need to see him," Nime says, leaning up to put her mouth to the peephole. "We have reason to believe that there is a vile woman coming to steal some very valuable scrolls he possesses. We would like to beat her to it. I don't mean that we intend to steal them, we would like to buy them or otherwise trade for them legitimately." She leans down to look through the peephole herself with one gray eye. "Please tell him. It's very important - we're trying to save the world."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (20) + 21 = 41

Dat nat 20 tho. :P

The man scowls. "Very well. Wait there while I announce your arrival." The peephole slams shut.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Three full minutes pass, then the door opens to reveal an enormous Vudran man in chainmail, a greatsword slung over his back. He stands nearly 7 feet tall and is built like a tree. A layer of fat disguises powerful muscles. Despite his stature, a worried look is on his face. "I am Mister Magenta. I don't know how you learned about the Boss's scrolls, but he wants to see you right away."

He leads you through a largely empty lobby, save for a few benches and sickly potted plants, into a meeting room with a long table and numerous chairs. "The Boss will be down presently. Please, wait here." Then he steps out of the room and closes the door.

Nime's eyes widen at Mister Magenta's appearance. At her height, it's not often that she has to look up at a man.

Once instructed to wait, Nime, glad for the respite, takes a seat in one of the offered chairs. At first she attempts to lean her weapon against the table, but when it begins sliding towards the floor she grabs it and holds it up next to her, mumbling something about, 'more trouble than it's worth.'

RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism

"This place has seen better days." Shenuska comments, before deliberately taking the chair at the head of the table. "I think Nime has it, honesty is our best policy here."

Several minutes pass before Mister Magenta returns with Clegg Zincher. Though shorter than Magenta, the grizzled crime boss still strikes a tough-looking figure as he strides confidently into the room. He sits opposite Shenuska at the end of the table, appearing calm and collected.

Sense Motive DC 20:
Despite his cool facade, Clegg seems a bit jittery and nervous, his eyes never standing still as they dart from person to person, from weapon to weapon.

Perception DC 20:
You note the edges of Zincher’s clothing are frayed and his armor a bit dented and rusty.

"Greetings," Clegg says cordially. "The esteemed Mister Magenta has informed me that you come bearing warnings of an imminent attack on my home—a home that is well defended by guards, traps, and political connections. All in town know that to move against me is to move against the government of Riddleport, and to do so is to incur the wrath of more lords than myself. So tell me, strangers—who is it you believe to be so foolish as to plot against me, and why do you care?"

Another Sense Motive DC 20:
You get a hunch that Clegg is overstating his political standing and his house's defenses, though not to what extent.

Nime seems confused at Shenuska's words. "Honesty is always the best policy," she says with a smile. "Lies are so much more difficult. So much more to remember and mis-remember." She shakes her head.

RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism

Take 10, can't fail, Take 10.

"While your defenses are no doubt... impressive." Shenuska says, pausing just long enough to make it clear that she does doubt the fact immensely. "The foes you face are a cult, dedicated completely to their cause of creating a disease that will transform its victims into terrifying monsters. They worship a quillipoth lord, so your wrath is little to fear. I don't think they care about you at all, you are just the least defended possessor of true resurrection scrolls that they are likely to find. You're a target of convenience."

Somehow the truth coming from Shenuska's lips is just not as reassuring as Nime makes it...

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Take 10 on Sense Motive for 23
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

"Mr. Zincher," Nime says with a smile. "We're on a mission to save the world. You possess something that would empower our enemies. We do not wish them to gain it. It's as simple as that. We're not looking to gain something from it other than the assurance that our enemies do not gain in strength."

She looks about the room.

"And they are very powerful enemies. They have many resources at their disposal and are capable of many things." She turns to look back at the older man. "For example ..."

The undine melds into a cloud of vapor and moves across the floor to slip under the door they came through. A moment later, her knock follows and the door opens as she steps back into the room. "Bars on the windows and locks on the doors can only stop the most base of foes. And these are far above that. We wish to help you, Mr. Zincher. Let us."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37

Clegg seems impressed by Nime's words and dramatic display. He lowers his gaze and appears to be deep in thought. At length, he nods. "Very well. I will accept your offer of aid. Mister Magenta, prepare the brandy so we can seal the deal."

The big man steps out, returning shortly with a fine bottle. He pours a glass for each of you, and Clegg raises his. "To good fortune. Now, tell me your capabilities, and then I shall give you a tour of the building."

RETIRED - Runelord of Altruism

"We are four spellcasters and two fighters." Shenuska says calmly. "Between us we specialise in taking blows, hitting people hard, fire, patching people up afterwards and tricks of the mind. We should be well set to defend your property Mr Zincher."

ADVENTURE PATH COMPLETE

Rudrik has remained quiet but a forbidding presence, with his arms folded in his massive adamantine armor, clearly not someone to mess with.

"I'm here to hit things hard and stop them from hitting us," says Rudrik simply. "That's about it."

Nime places a long-fingered hand on an adamatine bracer and sends a warm smile in the half-orc's direction.

Theo had spent most of their time in Magnimar either with Alika or helping his father and brother study his still-growing draconic abilities. Fortunately, they had well prepared the d'Ontalen patriarch's lab with fire suppressing tools when Theo's new trick proved far more intense than they'd expected.

With Zincher convinced that he needed the help and asking for their specialities, Theo gave a gesture of his hand to produce the image of a ball of fire. "Consider me the arcane artillery of the group," he said casually, "if you've anything flammable in the way that you'd rather hang onto, I'd suggest moving it."

He's just using prestidigitation for the flame, he's not preparing to actually demonstrate his fire spells.

"And I bring love," Nime offers, holding her chin up. "Oh, and an unwieldy pole-arm. And a rash."

She smiles at Zincher.

"But it's been getting better since we've been on the boat. It doesn't itch as much. I think swimming with Shenuska in the salt water has helped."
