Zeldana Amaria |
Funny thing is Zeldana doesn't need it. It just made since for her to have a fair CHA seeing as she is a merchant's daughter and some what had a business of her own. Which reminds me. Miss Tiel, did Zeldana ever read your cards?
Not wise in the slightest! XD Zeldana actually has the naive drawback!
Irisa |
Hello everyone :). Here is another naive, charismatic and not very wise girl :D. Sorry for taking so long to realize the discussion thread was up. Somehow I thought there would be a reply in the recruitment thread about it, even though I had no reason to think so.
@DM Alistair: Due to the high degree of overlap, are we allowed to make any adjustments to the characters? For example it seems like pretty much everyone are focusing on diplomacy (Irissa got +11 for example). Of course allowing us all to roll diplomacy is fun for RP. We can all interact with NPCs and have a reasonable chance of success if we want and we don't have to wait for the "face" to post :). Also, I don't suppose you would allow me to use the pre-errata version of Spirit Guide? It won't be relevant for a few levels, but it'll basically allow me to use the "cha-based" hexes as well(instead of making them wis-based which would make them much less effective).
@Hiranno: Agile Maneuvers only replaces str with dex for combat maneuvers. I think Weapon Finesse is closer to what you want. It replaces str with dex with for attacks with weapons (and also for maneuvers done with a weapon like trip and disarm, though not grapple or dirty trick).
Looks like we are two followers of Desna, High Five Zeldana.
Wow Hiranno has traveled far. If traveling across the frozen wastes the "far east" wasn't far enough, she also stopped by Absalom, which is as far away within the inner sea region as you can get, nearly doubling the distance to get to sandpoint. Here is a map over the journey as I understand it. And here I thought Irisa had traveled far...
Sholti Amalasand |
Oh, I don't think the wisdom thing is harming anyone. Seems that everyone is either breaking even or has a workaround.
I don't think we really need to make any changes for overlaps. As far as I'm concerned you can never have too much diplomacy! The party actually looks very good. The only thing that I see where we may not have all the coverage we'd like is ranged attacks and I'm sure we can figure something out for that.
Sholti Amalasand |
Maybe a longer trip by distance, but Goka to Absalom by boat is much more pleasant than weeks or months of ice and sub-zero temperatures. :)
Irisa |
I was mostly thinking of moving skill points around. Some of the skill points are bound to tie heavily into the character background while other might be more flexible. Still, we don't have to do anything. If there are things we aren't awesome at (for example sense motive or perception or various knowledges), we'll just have to work around those limitations. As you say, the party looks very good. We do have one thing we are quite weak against, mind immune enemies (undeads? swarms?). Hopefully we won't encounter too many of those before we are able to handle them. I have no idea how numerous those kind of enemies are in this AP, but the player's guide does say:
A prepared character should be suited to challenge monstrous humanoids, giants, magical beasts, and undead, and even greater threats at higher levels, such as evil outsiders and dragons
Irisa won't be great at dealing with undead before level 4.
Our characters doesn't actually know about each other before the start of the adventure so it would make sense that there is some overlap in skills. They also have no clue about enemies they might encounter, so with their wisdom it certainly makes sense to not prepare overly much.
Hiranno |
@Irisa
Thank you, I'll change that pronto. Yea, WIS seems pretty low in this party, not sure if it will be a crux.
And yes, hiring been traveling for a few years. Taking the route to western Golarion would be too dangerous for someone trying to flee discretely. Her parents did however. The frozen north is not a fun place.
Irisa |
Actually carrying capacity is another place where we might have troubles, so unless you plan to put any of your level up points in wisdom (I wouldn't recommend it, there are other things that are better for you, though you know what you have planned better than me), it's probably better to keep it in strength. It's more that we don't have anyone focusing on wisdom, so we won't get very high scores in perception/sense motive (and to a lesser degree survival).
Should we start out knowing each other? Or is it better if we are strangers? I find that having some common background makes the game feel more immersive/involved.
Zeldana Amaria |
Well I know Zeldana and Tiel had to of crossed paths at least once. Sandpoint isn't big enough to go very long without meeting. From the looks of it I'd say it's a small town. As for the other, I can only speak for how Zeldana might know them. It'd was most likely in her childhood though, while she was still traveling. Tell me Irisa where did you come from? I know it was a Kellid tribe but that doesn't really narrow it down....
Irisa |
I haven't actually thought about it that closely. I was inspired by People of the North and certainly somewhere north of our current location, but that could mean Irissen, Lands of the Linnorm Kings or Realm of the Mammoth Lords. I guess Kellids are the most numerous in Realm of the Mammoth Lords, so lets go with that. The tribes there are nomadic, so they wouldn't really be tied to one specific place there. There are 14 named tribes on the wiki, but there isn't really much information about them. I guess I could pick one of them, or just come up with one of my own. How about the "Snowmask Clan" (Alistair what do you think?), they greatly appreciate stories and have a custom of sharing tales with any they meet as a sign of hospitality.
I just noticed this:
Most also revere Desna as the goddess
of travelers, depicting her as a gallant woman astride a
powerfu elk. The fok of the Realm of the Mammoth
Lords are suspicious ofthe foeign magics of outsiders,
and shun them in preference fo the traditional rituals
of their bloodspeakers and elder shamans. These
superstitions stem in part frm the hostile lands that
border their realm-the icy witch-held lands of !rrisen
to the west, and the malignant demonic cancer of the
Worldwound to the east
I guess Irisa would be taught to be skeptical towards witchcraft, though her personality would certainly be able to overcome that in time. But it could lead to some interesting roleplay.
Zeldana Amaria |
I can give you more information on them if you'd like. I have the Inner Sea Races book and the Inner Sea World Guide! Both break down the races, the former far more then the latter, and the latter gives a full break down of the locations.
That is going to be interesting when she sees Zeldana work her magic! Kinda looking foreword to that now! XD
Hiranno |
I put the point back in strength. Wondering when we start, I've got a show tonight and won't be getting out 'till late night.
Sholti Amalasand |
I'll almost certainly not know any of you before the beginning since I would be attempting to avoid situations where personal questions are likely to get asked.
Irisa |
Well Sholti and Hiranno could have met or even traveled together from Absalom all the way to Sandpoint. That would be kinda cool, even if Sholti didn't reveal her true identity.
By the way have you read this guide to PbP Sholti? I've played a character with a secret identity in a game before. To my disappointment noone ever inquired about it and my character wasn't really the sharing type so it never came up. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm wondering how your "secret identity" will work out here. I hope it has more interesting results than it did for me. One thing I do wonder about your backstory though, what is a zhyen?
Wylintiel "Tiel" Orlanin |
I cannot see how Zeldana and Tiel would not know each-other. In such a small town, the "she's a half-elf like me" viewpoint would definitely put them in each-others social radar. As for everyone else, they could easily be patrons of the Rusty Dragon for the last few days, letting us all at least recognize each-other.
@DM Alistair, I'm thinking of changing my armor to a breastplate. I figure Tiel spent almost all of her money on armor and weapons and just didn't think about buying any "adventuring gear."
Sholti Amalasand |
Zhyen: The zhyen is a minor genie that serves as a messenger and servant to greater beings. Despite knowledge of their superior genie status as compared to mortal spellcasters, they often serve as familiars to powerful mages, especially the genie-friends known as daivrat. They can be summoned with the summon monster II spell.
Sholti Amalasand |
Unless Alistair wants us together before for some reason, I'm going to go the "recognizable loner" route. It seems very improbable to me that Sholti and Hiranno would first of all meet, and then happen to be traveling a great distance to the same small place. Besides if I recall the backstory correctly, Hiranno traveled north from Magnimar. Sholti came south from Riddleport.
Even if those improbable things occurred, I doubt Sholti at least would allow it to continue. She's trying to disappear and is convinced she is being tracked (true or not). If someone just kept making the same travel decisions it would be too suspicious. Even if Hiranno wasn't a bounty hunter or something of the sort, she might gain information that would help anyone trailing Sholti if they were snooping around and asking questions.
I don't have any particular expectations for the secret identity angle. I'm thinking of it as a starting point and the character as dynamic rather than static. Things will change and the character will adjust to them. I'd consider a secret identity that was never discovered a success. Mission accomplished for better or worse. BUT, I doubt Sholti is actually doing a great job of being incognito. I didn't put a skill point into disguise on purpose. She's never been outside her home city until she fled so she can't put together a false background that will stand up to any real scrutiny.
Also, Half-Elves are exceedingly rare in Qadira, as are Elves. She's never encountered any at home, and at most seen a couple on the streets in Absalom or Riddleport since. She's yet to actually meet or speak to another one, and she'll be joining a party in which they are the majority race. That should have an impact.
I didn't design the background with any "true" story behind it. It's very much from her perspective which is quite limited. It's vague as to what was happening, and there are some holes in the story as given (although I'm not expecting you to hunt for them). If Alistair wants to do something with it that's great. But if he doesn't that's great too. As it stands now it's a mystery that can't be solved without a trip home and I'm sure that's outside the scope of the AP :)
Hiranno |
Well, potato.
Any more ideas on how we all meet up. Maybe like a big giant fight or something and we beat everyone up.
Zeldana Amaria |
We may not know each other. Well outsider of Tiel and Zeldana, who know each other but I don't know if they're friends. Tiel, do you think they could be friends?
But all of us a good aligned right? Maybe the opening scene will give us all a chance to befriend another?
Irisa |
@DM Alistair: How frequent can we expect posts for this game? I've found that any less frequent than one post per day per person minimum quickly grinds to a halt as people have to put a lot of extra effort to get into the game for every post since it wasp long since they posted last. Of course people have lives and that of course is the first priority, but the more we play/post, the more fun we have? Is driving all across states something you do frequently?
With regards to meeting up I think we should wait for the GM and see what he prefers. Some APs assume the party have joined together already before the game while others have a really good hook for brining people together.
Hiranno |
I think at the start their is some sort of attack on Sandpoint or something like that so that may be our excuse if i remember correctly.
Zeldana Amaria |
If that is the case then we may forge bonds of blood. After all we're all good aligned, I doubt our characters would just sit around while others are harmed. Especially since two of our five call this place home. And just as Sholti says, there is always the Rusty Dragon.
