Faysal Ibn Ahmad Ibn Aziz |
Hey guys, I'm keeping track of all of the treasure on my character sheet. We also need to identify a magic scimitar and magic rapier. And two magic pearls that Numair is carrying.
Spell craft checks
-magic scimitar 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9-magic rapier 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
-Pearl 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
-Pearl 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Numair Alazario |
Irritated that he is unable to decypher the magic on the weapons, Numair snaps back at Remos irritably. "Of course I know! It is magic that makes you hhit better! What other kind would it be?! Just use the sword."
So, one pearl for each spellcaster? And who wants the ring?

Bags the rapier! :D
So Mr. GM, shall we say that Makin reaches the caravan as above, and move on to the next morning? Or does something happen overnight!
Makin reaches the caravan and informs them that the monastery is clear. The next morning they pack up early and arrive at the monastery just before midday. The night was uneventful
Makin ibn Fahd |
Makin walks with Lady Almah to the monastery entrance, ahead of the arriving caravan, her personal guards and Garavel are nearby while the mercenaries help and guard the camels and supplies as the drovers settle them after the short journey.
'This is it, small alchemical labratory underground, and the kitchen and many of the rooms need to be cleaned of babboon mess, but it should be safe and dry for now. Faysal and Father Zastoran might look into saying rites so we can clean up the crypts below, not to risk a haunting. Oh, and we net a man who was very useful in cleaning out the monastery, and Ugawan warrior, bit coarse but damned effective.'
Makin looks towards the chapel to see if he can spot his companions, he hails any who are awake.

Almah responds after looking around,This will indeed be a good place to watch Kelmarane form a distance. We will spend the day clearing out and preparing the building for our stay here. After she tours the building Garavel returns to the caravan and says The lady Almah and I will take up residence in the library.
With his pronouncement Almah's guards claim the baboon room due to it's proximity to Almah. Father Zastoran adds that he will use the laboratory to continue his potion creation. The drover and his wife ask to take the kitchen since they will be providing the food anyway. Dashki, with a greedy look in his eye, claims the shrine that has the secret door. The mercenaries claim the chapter house, where the stirges lived. At that Garaval suggests you set up your area in the dormitory.
Makin ibn Fahd |
So this is our arrangements.
That evening, after halping to clean and set up the monastery as a safer more cosy place, Makin is going to Appriase the more mundane loot, checking for masterwork and value.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 : The holy symbol on the wooden chain.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 : The pug kings breastplate
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 : The pug king's longbow
We divided up the gems and gold from earlier. From this haul me and Remos got magic weapons, Haldo got a magic ring and Faysal and Numair got pearls of power. If you'll all put them on your character sheets, I'm going to take them out of my loot tally. So Numair and Faysal are 1,000 gp under funded. The mwk leather armor and probably +1 hammer we have will sell for 1,236 gp. 618 gp each to Numair and Faysal. So if the above sells for around 800 gp, ~400 gp each, you guys can get that when we have access to a merchant, and we'll all get a fair share. Makin will keep all unsold loot together is his sack until then if that's okay.
Faysal Ibn Ahmad Ibn Aziz |
Okey dokey. Just as an aside, I am usually the last oen to claim any loot, and almost always end up "underfunded", so if this module requires you to be strictly on par with gear, please feel free to drop me a hint or two :) I'm pretty sure I have the Holy Symbol of Sarenrae we found in the crypts, but if you prefer to carry it, thats cool. Now where do I get an Amulet of Magic Fang? :)
Numair Alazario |
Numair snorts as he settles into the dormitory. "Hmmph. We clear this place out, risking life and limb, and yet we are last to choose a room? How did this happen?" Numair seems genuinely offended at being given such shoddy (in his view) treatment by Almah and Garavel. In any meetings with the group and those two, he is noticeably cool (at least more so than he normally is).
As far as loot goes, I put the pearl on my sheet, but I'll wait until xyro gives confirmation that we can sell the other stuff before adding money. I also don't always jump to claim money, but Numair will certainly want to keep anything arcane magic-y. Also, don't forget that Numair has that chime of opening; he's carrying it, but I'm perfectly willing to give it to someone else or even sell it. It's not really an item that terribly interests him.

oops I forgot to upload the map.
Map
the breastplate is standard and small. The holy symbol is normal and mundane. the bow is small and standard.
Makin ibn Fahd |
Faysal, you can keep the holy symbol. Numair, we'll keep that as party loot, but you can keep hold of it. With the two items, when we can sell our stuff, you guys get 735 gp each from what we currently have.
Sitting in the newly cleaned dormitory, Makin turns to his companions, 'So should we go confer with Almah and try and get an attack plan ready for Kelmarane?'
Makin ibn Fahd |
How far away is it? And I just want to see what our objectives are, I'm happy to scout out the region and maybe do a little guerilla warfare, hitting small groups of gnolls seperately. I just wanted to see if the boss lady had any specifics she wants us to do, or information for us.

^ This, though I hadn't seen Faysal as a guerrilla. Can I wear a black beret?

One small sized beret, in the post! Okay, who's coming with?
Makin knocks on the door of Almah and Garavel's room, whichever of his companions want to get tactical arrayed behind him.

the village is about a mile and a half away

As Makin knocks on Almah's door she says to Garavel, I want everyone in the chapel right away to discuss our plans.
Minutes later with everyone in the chapel Almah lays out her plan:
After everyone has settled into their new accommodations, the you five are to make a scouting mission into the outskirts of the village in an attempt to gauge the forces defending Kelmarane. I warn you not to attempt to fight your way to the battle market, where we presume the gnoll tribe has set up shop, as preliminary intelligence suggests that the forces there are sufficient to overwhelm us in the case of an all-out attack. Rather, I encourage guerrilla strikes into the town, taking out its defenders a few at a time and exploring the ruined buildings on Kelmarane’s lower slopes. I am placing a rotating shift of guards at the window to keep a constant watch on Kelmarane. Any questions?
xyrophobic |
The town lies to the north a little over a mile away. This whole valley is one big pesh field. There is a river that runs along the east and north side of town. As for the town there is a large battle market in the center, probably the home of the gnolls that are camped there now. There is also an old church. In the area I seem to remember a shrine to Nethys and a ruined fort. At this point you should just scout the town and see what we can learn before they know we are here.
Makin ibn Fahd |
'It might be too close, we're on a hill at a safe distance here,' Makin thinks aloud.
'But, it could be a great place for us to launch attacks from so we don't draw more attention back up here. How about this, tmorrow morning we will scout out the village environs, if we see a small group of gnolls we'll attack, and try and hide the bodies. Then we'll retreat to the shrine and see if we can use it.'
We're about a mile from Kelmarane down the hill, so thats a half-hour trek on foot in this terrain, but the Shrine is only about fifteen minutes from the town, so even if we do retreat and find the shrine untenable, we can get back here easily. Hows that sound?
Numair Alazario |
"I might agree with you, Faysal, except the fort is nearly as far from Kelmarane as this chapel is. I still think the shrine is the best route. Makin's plan is not a bad one, although I caution against taking on too much in the way of gnoll scouts, especially since it's quite unlikely that the shrine remains uninhabited. It would be ... unfortunate if we expend all of our strength against several warriors, only to retreat to the shrine and discover it stocked with even more."
Makin ibn Fahd |
'Yeah, nighttime hurts us more than helps. Everyone gather their supplies and we'll go down to the shrine.'
We're going to take our time, staying in gullies and behind longgrass and small hillocks, so we'll be going at half-speed. Don't suppose Faysal wants a piggyback from Remos so that's a travel speed of 1 mile and hour. How long does it take us to get to the shrine? And is the river a challenge to cross?
