Iavdi? Hellstrider?

Round 2

initiative:

Iavdi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Kevroth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Giosue: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
D'hara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Hellstrider: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Antagonists: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

As Kevroth finishes the last tiefling at the rear, D'hara spins in place and makes for the doorway. She rushes through the chaos of the cramped corridor, passing burning Hellknights on the way. It is not her duty to stop and see to their well being. They are Hellknights. They are forged of fire. She bounds past Hellstrider and now seeing the visible, albeit flickering tiefling flying above her head, she draws her whip off of her hip as she begins to ascend the stairs. It isn't until she is halfway up that she notices another tiefling, this one standing at the top of the stairs. In the end it makes little difference to D'hara. She will kill one and then the other if she has to.

Hot on her heels, Giosue and Kevroth follow close behind D'hara. Et flamma de Infernis omnia secreta noviens," he incants, calling forth the blazing embers that are the slightest breath of Hell to descend upon the flying man. Intricate, diabolical runes flare to life in the air before Giosue's outstretched hand. Rune forged of green fire and precise lines. He blows and the runes burst into soot exploding into the air in a torrent and striking the mad alchemist in the eyes. The demon-spawn screams in rage as the soot piles in his eyes, gluing them shut. He curses, blind eyes casting about for his foes!

On silent feet, Kevroth bursts into the room. He tosses his hand forward and one of his razor-sharp kukri leave his grasp. It sails through the air like a darting bird of prey, sure and cruel. The blade slams quick into the mad alchemist's stomach. Blood spills free from the wound.

At the foot of the stairs, hellstrider roars in pain as the acid from the bomb continues to eat at her flesh and fur. It's an impressive display and shakes the walls of the very room! She bares her teeth, fury burning bright in her golden eyes. The tiefling at the top of the stairs panick, his finger shaky on the trigger.

Oops, did realize I was up again. Misread "everyone" to mean "everyone else". Moving on!

Question for you math people out there. Could Iavdi Enlarge himself and be able to reach the flying one with his glaive? Or would he need to Enlarge Hellstrider? Either works fine, but obviously he trusts himself with his own magic the most.

The effects spoiler says he flying 30 ft above Hellstrider so even enlarged I don't think you can get close enough. Hellstrider might be close enough if enlarged, but that's a big trick for one foe...no pun intended...maybe a little.

@Hellstrider: ew!!! not sure what to do
@Iavdi: D'hara has the right of it. It's either spells, ranged attacks, or becoming bigger than Large.

I tried to make this encounter challenging-er because I thought you were curbstomping things. Besides, I never get to play with 3dimensional spaces

Botting Iavdi
Runes and flare to life on Iavdi's skin as he calls upon the energies fueling his machinery. He extends a finger towards the blurred tiefling hovering in the air, drawing his power into his finger. With barely a thought, he unleashes that power in a single straight line. A bolt of green-tinged blue light sore through the air, piercing him through the shoulder. A patina frost slowly covers his shoulder as Othirubo curses in rage.

Othirubo screams and curses as he fumbles with his pouch. Tar and pitch, sloshing chemicals and foul-smelling powders. He throws all of them into another child's skull. Fumble, he does. His fingers are clumsy, his eyes blind. The full head, slick alchemical fluids, slips from the fiendspawn's grasp and falls towards the ground. The chaos of the place twists all probability and the head lands on Iavdi's armored shoulder. The head explodes, pounding the machine and warpriest with concussive force, showering the two armigers in a sticky paste that eats through their flesh! The blind alchemist roars and howls fury, scrabbling at his eyes. Finally, he claws them clear, and blinks the ashes away. "I can see you!! Yes!! You will SUFFER!!! YOU WILL BURN FOR OTHIRBUO'S LOVE! D'hara calls upon her faith and years of discipline. She remembers her training and the kata drilled into her over the years. She pivots and grabs the tiefling in a crushing grip, pinning demon-spawn in her arms.

At the door, Giosue speaks eldritch words of fiendish perfection. Iron tridents form at the arcanist's fingertips and fly with unerring accuracy into the alchemist's chest. Bones snap as the tridents shatter against his leather armor.

Below Othirubo, Kevroth sends his weapon into the air. The kukri takes on a sickly greenish red glow and hurtles end over end into the the fiend-spawn's chest. It quivers in the air and he coughs blood.

Beside Kevroth, Hellstrider calls upon the dark Power she spoke with that morning, the unknowable beings from the great beyond. Dark energy fills her, swirling about her in an aura of pure darkness. Her muscles tense for a moment, and then, she releases. The shadows release from her in a blast of dark life-sucking energy. The cold fire of unlife washes over the armigers, but the weather the storm. The Tiefling in D'hara's hands collapses into dust as the flames wash over him, and Othirubo wheezes, gasping for air as his body withers before their very eyes. How was this madman not dead yet?

Giosue intoned another spell, "Ita damnatos et in ira mea, dura sicut furiae!"

Magic missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9

just need Kevroth and hell.... actually between Giosue and D'hara, Othirubo is dead (jsut did a quick look at the hp totals)

D'hara pulls a small disk from her pouch. Her fingers run over its cold surface, she tests the edge for just a moment before releasing. The blade spins through the air slicing into Othirubo's neck as easily as parting butter. Blood rains down from the floating alchemist, more than such a small wound should allow. It covers the armigers in putrid green slime and the mad fiendspawn laughs. "Yes!! My blood will be the sacrifice for your fate! You will BURN!! BURN FOR THE LORD OF THE LOCUST HOST!! BURN!!!!!!!!P"

He fumbles at his pouch, beginning a foul admixture of perverse and unnatural ingredients. He never completes his formula.

"Ita damnatos et in ira mea, dura sicut furiae!" Once more, twin tridents of hell-forged iron burst from Giosue's fingers. They hurtle through the air with unerring aim, and run the alchemist through. More green blood rains down, and the fiend's ingredients fall to the floor, useless and inert. The body hangs, floating in the air, testimony to Othirubo's insanity. His body twitches, once, twice, and then sags, limp in the air.

End of combat. You're seriously hurt. I recommend that you drink up at the fountain before pressing on. Also, you guys are 5th level. w00t! Levels go in to effect the instant I have them.

Relaxing slighty with the fiend's death, Kevroth suddenly feels the full weight of his burns and other pains. He looks about to see the battering the armigers withstood, and smiles a tight-lipped smile, "My Brothers and Sisters of the Iron Law of Hell, I am honored to stand beside you all. The enemy breaks itself across our immoveable resolve! Come! Let us restore the strength of our bodies at the fountain below that it might match the strength of our collective will! The Inheritor is not best pleased at our presence here, but she will allow it for this day our goals are the same as her own." He takes a moment to rid himself of the clinging acid before turning to lead the way back to the subterranean pool.

As promised: update!
The Armigers descend into the sacred shrine of the Inheritor and drink once more of the waters from her font. Again, they feel her stark disapproval and cold displeasure fill them. But, their wounds are made whole, and they are refreshed and restored to continue the fight deeper into the Gray Garrison.

With renewed purpose and resolve, they slowly ascend the stairs. Othirubo's corpse still hangs in the air. His feet graze Hellstrider's fur as she squeezes her way to the second floor. Above, the armigers find a long L-shaped hallway. An open door faces a closed on just off the landing. A closed door faces the the armigers, and three others follow the pierce the base of the L. A rough scraping of bone on stone echoes from room a the vertex of the L, a low murmuring comes from the open door.

With a simple nod of her head, D'hara both acknowledged and agreed with Kevroth. She waited as the others followed him down and took her normal position at the rear of the group.

She too drank from the fountain and felt renewed. At the same time though, she felt the scorn of her father too. As penance, she set her spiked chain on the floor, coiled in a circle like a rope. She knelt down on it, feeling the spikes bite into her flesh. Retrieving one of her own whips, she began to methodically whip herself, feeling her own robes dampen with blood across her back. She whispered a quiet prayer thanking her father for reminding her of her own allegiances and loyalties.

Silently she stood and repacked her weapons. She didn't bother to attend to the self-inflicted wounds. Instead she followed the others back up the stairs. At seeing the still-floating tiefling, she paused. She drew her whip and lashed onto the leg of the body. With two hands, she heaved and brought it down lower until she could get a grip on it with her hands. Climbing onto it, she scaled the corpse until she could remove the backpack it still wore. Then she removed the rest of the possessions that remained and tossed those down as well. Finally she returned to the floor, standing and slipping on the newly acquired backpack.

Taking a little liberty here with reprovisioning but since I don't need armor and what with ABP and on, I'm getting a Handy Haversack off of the dead guy.

Freeing her whip from the catch on her hip, D'hara let the leather do it's dance. Before it even had a chance to hit the floor, it struck out at a zombie's legs. It quickly snaked it's way around the rotten flesh as D'hara spun about, tugging at the zombie and trying to send it crashing to the floor.

Excellent!

Hellstrider? i'm updating tonight Iavdi's already contacted me about being afk for the moment.

initiative:

Iavdi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Kevroth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Giosue: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
D'hara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Hellstrider: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Cultists: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

"Orci celeritas iudicium super nos,"Giosue intones as the cultists are the undead slaves rush into the hall. Fiendish whips strike at the armiger's backs, and they hear the barks of their commanders from across the drilling fields once more. Reflexes hammered by the harsh discipline of their commanders pull at their limbs, and the armigers feel themselves hastening ever faster!

Freeing her whip from the catch on her hip, D'hara lets the leather do its dance. Before it even has a chance to hit the floor, it strikes out at a zombie's legs. It quickly snakes its way around the rotten flesh as D'hara spins about, tugging at the zombie and sending it crashing to the floor. She pulls up on the whip, uncoiling it from the foul creature's legs, then she brings the whip down again, laying open the corpse's cheek.

At the far end of the hall, Kevroth pulls out his kukri and spins. Once! Twice! Thrice! His blades flash out, and cut through the air with the sure accuracy of an armiger forged in iron discipline of the Hellknights. Each strike fells a foul slave of Deskari! When he stands, three corpses spill blood upon the stones.

Iavdi swings his glaive twice. First, he cleaves the corpse's arm from its shoulder. Then he spins the the blade above his head and brings the haft down. The blade cuts the creature in twain! The zombie before Giosue tries to stand, but the armiger cuts it down with mechanical precision.

At the other end, Hellstrider thrusts her lance twice, in quick succession. Each time, she runs a zombie or cultist through. The servants of the Locust Lord collapse in their own blood, and the armigers have proven their strength this day!

The cultists close ranks, what's left of them. and press the attack, but their blades clatter uselessly against the armigers' perfect armor.

End of round 1. Start round 2. EVERYONE UP

GM:

Whips do slashing damage and now that D'hara has the Whip Mastery feat;

"You no longer provoke attacks of opportunity when attacking with a whip. You can deal lethal damage with a whip, although you can still deal nonlethal damage when you want. Further, you can deal damage with a whip despite a creature’s armor bonus or natural armor bonus."

Also, it doesn't normally do damage when performing a Combat Maneuver.

Stepping forward, D'hara again released her whip, this time at the cultist closest to Kevroth. It sliced through the air, ensnaring the cultist's legs. With two hands, D'hara pulled the cultist's legs out from under him and sent him crashing to the floor. Feeling the incredible speed flowing through her, the whip lashed out again. This time, it bit into the man's flesh and tasted blood.

Whip Trip, haste: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 1 = 29
Whip, hasted attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 1 = 23
Slashing damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

I'll correct her damage from last round.

Facing only a single cultist, Kevroth gives the foe his full attention, "You have erred. Allow me to correct your mistake." His blades flash again, and a small smile graces the corner of his mouth.

"Anarchy will not be tolerated," Giosue said. "Ours is the Path Unbending." He methodically loaded his crossbow as he spoke.

End of Combat

Once again, Kevroth spins in place, blades flashing in the torclight. He slams one Kukri deep into the cultis's neck. Then, he quickly pulls, severing bone and veins with a stroke. Green blood tinged with black and yellow sprays from the wound, coating Asmodeus' servant with thick, ropey strands. The servant of the Abyss collapses to the ground, choking on his blood. Then, the armiger twists and sends his kukri flying. It sails underneath Hellstrider's arm and plunges seep into the other cultists's neck, sending its head flying.

D'hara follows by wrapping her whip about the zombie's leg and pulling, nearly wrenching the limb clean off the walking corpse as the thing is knocked off its feet. Giosue loads his crossbow as Hellstrider thrusts her lance into the creature's skull, making it a corpse once more.

You have a few places to explore, now. Remember you're trying to find the remnants of the wardstone and Jezlyn.

D'hara slipped a glass vial out of her bandolier as she stepped past the numerous bodies that littered the hallway. She quaffed the contents as she moved, tossing the now empty vial into the hallway with the rest of the trash. She moved up to the door at the end of the hallway, emboldened as she felt the force armor shimmer into existence. With no more hesitation, she attempted to throw open the door, whip still in hand.

Drinking potion of mage armor and trying to open the door at the western end of the hall.

D'hara slips down the hall, past the growling door, and kicks open the western door. She reveals a small library. Ancient books fill the shelves, each have been defaced and defiled by demonic hands. It is otherwise completely empty.
