D'hara |

"This blasphemy should be cleansed." It wasn't really a proclamation, more a personal feeling, yet D'hara felt it had to be said. She didn't expect anyone to disagree, but their mission was bigger than this. Still, their orders didn't say they couldn't exact retribution when it was called for.
"The bridge makes an obvious choke point, but most demons won't care. If the occupants are more ordered, it may work against us. Perhaps a guise of sorts. I could approach alone, with a missive. Speak to the commander, find out their strengths. We know a lot about what's happening in Kenebras. We could use that knowledge to our advantage and create a false message."
"But I say we just kill them all."

Sven the Mazebreaker |

Posting hard up here, sorry for silence. Sven is for sneaking in and putting arrows into somebody

Kevroth |

Kevroth nods with D'hara's words, "Agreed. This should not be allowed to stand."

Dragonofashandflame |

Kevroth spies several tiny goat-faced demons bounding around a fire. They jump and dance around the fire as they toss an armored body onto the fire. he weakly kicks and turns as his body hits the they wood. Then, he begins to scream as his flesh cooks inside his own armor.
[ooc]Ok, the demons are totally occupied. feel free to plot their demise. You gain surprise no matter wha.[/coo]

Sven the Mazebreaker |

Without passion, Sven said ”Too easy. When ye are in position I’ll shoot.”
Do I have time before the surprise round to cast divine favor as a standard and study a target as a move action?

Kevroth |

"I will remove the crusader from the fire. Perhaps he can be saved. If not, he will be avenged."
Kevroth darts in to the fire, hoping the demons will be too preoccupied to impede him. Once there he will reach into the flames to grab the wounded man and drag him from the fire.

D'hara |

Rushing forward, D'hara elected a different path from Kevroth. Her legs carried her past crates and tents and fires burning. She skidded to a halt in the open, whispering a prayer to her father before shouting out at the demons.
"Father, guide my body and shield my soul, for they both belong to you."
"COME SPAWN. COME SUFFER THy JUSTICE!" she shouted.
Spending a point of fervor to swift cast owl's wisom.
Move action to current position.
Standard action to use protection from chaos spell-like ability.
AC: 23, 25 vs. chaotic creatures.

Giosue Rhigetti |

Giosue recognizes these demons as brimoracks: goat demons of chaos and destruction. Their blood is boiling flame, and will spray any who pierces their hide. They breathe smoke and can coat their weapons and hooves in deadly flame.
"They are, to be imprecise in the interests of speed, fire demons. Beware their burning blood and blades."

hiya! I'm back. SOOO sorry for the long wait. Basically, this is what happened: Stepdad ended up in hospital (i'm flying back home in about 2 weeks to deal with that--i'll still be able to game since he's pretty much housebound for the meantime; Boyfriend and I quasi-broke up; work stuff is pulling me in about 4 different directions; and I got sick. Life has.. sort of worked itself out. So, I'm getting things back on track [/ooc]

Round 1
Pulling a flask from her bandolier, D'hara stepped forward towards the demons. She popped the top and quickly quaffed the contents before beginning a quiet prayer to her father.
"Father, allow me to return these demons to the abyss in your name." A ghostly light like liquid green flesh creeps up D'hara's skin, covering her body in its glowing light. Cruel eldritch spikes burst from the glowing skin, staining her holy armor with her own blood.
Behind her, Sven takes a steadying breath. He takes careful aim, and then, with blinding speed, he looses his arrows. Once. Twice. Thrice! The shafts fly through the air, guided by discipline drilled into him with daily practices by Hellknight officers. The arrows land almost instantly, one atop the other other, piercing two demons in the eyes, ending them instantly. Foul, violet-tinged smoke bursts from their lips as their body crumbles into burning locusts that scream in agony with all too-human voices.
Among the demons, Kevroth heeds his duty to the First: defend order and law above all else, even one's own life. The crusader on the fire is, perhaps, someone of import. At the very least, they may know something of these tortured lands, and the demons' plans. Such a
resource can not be wasted! "Lord, shield your faithful." A faintly reddish aura, precise and ordered geometric shapes flickering through it, springs up around Kevroth as he draws his blades and takes a defensive posture over the fallen crusader.
One of the demons sneer, uncowed by the death of their comrades. Such is their lust for ruin and decay that even the destruction of their allies gives them pleasure! The fiend tears a burning hoof into the ground and a great cloud of burning black locusts surrounds it. The swarm sucks impossibly into the ground and then erupts from a rent in the earth mere feet from where Sven stands! The swarm dissipates and The brimorak leers at the duergar, foul smoke seething from its tortured maw. The smoke envelopes Sven and Giosue, but although the noxious fumes torture their eyes and lungs, the two armigers marshal their fortitude and weeather the vapors' toxins.
The other remaining demon sneers and spits a glob of burning phlegm into its palm. It laughs madly and hurls the blob towards the armigers with a delight jig. It lands with a silent fizzle, only to explode moments later, bathing Sven, Giosue, and D'hara in demonic fire! D'hara easily dodges the blast. But, Giouse is not so lucky, and the demonic energies nearly burn him to ash! Even grim Sven is left smoldering and charred. The two will be sore pressed to survive another of these!
Ok, so.. Greater Teleportation is a standard action that does not provoke AoO when he rematerializes. i looked it up and i'm rather shocked by this. cool
and.... because Sven is now within 5' of Brimmy, he needs to make a DC 17 fort save (he's immune.. but.. Giosue isn't)
DC 17 Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 well POO. and, he can't be affected by it for another 24 hours. Well shucks.

Sven the Mazebreaker |

Welcome back! Sounds like RL really reared it’s ugly head. Wish you all the best in dealing with all that
Sven smiled in satisfaction as two demons went down. He was about to fire again when the air shimmered and twisted. Great. Teleporting. I hate- he didn’t have time to finish the thought as he had to leap to the side to avoid the fireballs that were coming towards him. He avoided the worst of them. Rolling to his feet, he was already firing at the brimorak demon that had just appeared:

If it dies before shots are complete, have any extra shots to towards an uninjured demon. Pretty sure first two shots will kill the brimorak
Arrow after arrow flew from the duergar’s bow, each flying with unerring accuracy. They hit without enough force to down an ogre. He thought to himself that two should be sufficient per demon, even as his body smoked from the fiery attacks launched at him.

Giosue studies the ordered flow of the universe, the structure and form that separates distances and planes. Ah! Yes! A loophole! He turns a bit, and slips through the natural warp and weft of the fabric of the world, appearing to wink out of existence and materializing several feet away from danger mere moments later!
Top of round 2! it's time for Kevroth, D'hara, and Sven!

My Round 2 is above

Kevroth |

I am not super clear where the demons are or how many there are left.
Is there any target he can strike without leaving the injured (and hopefully not dead) crusader unguarded?

Kevroth |

With no threat nearby, Kevroth will reach down to the crusader at his feet drawing a wand out from his belt and discharges the stored power within to heal the Crusader.
Infernal Healing on the wounded crusader.

Dragonofashandflame |

Top of Round 2
Sven: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Kevroth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Giosue: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
D'hara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Brimoraks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Sven takes quick with his bow and launches two arrows in quick succession. The demon, seizing the opening Sven offers, cuts a low gash along the duergar's leg that immediately bursts into flame. Though Sven feels the abyssal flame burn away his flesh, he remains undeterred, and his arrows strike true, planting themselves deep in the demon's eyes. It's a hollow victory, though, for, even as the demon falls to the ground, devoured by burning insects, fiendish burning blood spurts form the ruined carcass, and sizzle along Sven's arm, burning him once more.
D'hara leaps, wrapping her arms and legs about the demon in a stranglehold. Her limbs pin the creature's own to its sides, and it falls to the earthen floor, unable to move. Beside her, Kevroth cause upon the power of the First, and green flame erupts from the warrior's body, healing many of his most grievous wounds.
The demon spins in the monk's arms and kicks its foot into her chest with all its might. Such is its lust for blood and ruin that it cares nothing for its own safety or for tactics. The blow nearly caves in her chest, and D'hara feels her ribs shatter from the blow. The wound bursts into purple abyssal flame, but the chaotic energies cannot harm her disciplined form.
I *think* Sven incurs and AoO for using his bow next to the brimorak
AoO: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 hit?
damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (1) = 7

hoof attack, grappled: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 2 = 22 crit!

D'hara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Brimoraks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
arrows of pure darkness fire from Giosue's outstretched hand. The armiger's words are perfect, his forms precise. But, the chaos of the Abyss warps space and time in this land, and his magic flies wide of their mark.

Still smoldering, and bleeding, Sven stepped forward and fired three more shots at the demon. Two of them slammed home with supernatural force. The duergar grimaced in pain, though he was certain the demon felt it more...

I was operating under the assumption that this was the same as firing into melee, and that precise shot covered it. 3.5 had the rules for hitting someone when grappling. If we are using the 3.5 rules, then Sven will curse loudly as he lowers his bow, deigning not to take the shot.

This seems like the dumbest rule in the world... Like, seriously, grappling WOULDN'T create soft cover? Seriously?! And, the thing is even smaller than D'hara, too! meh. she's safe.

Sven the Mazebreaker |

Well as GM you have the power to implement the logical 3.5 rule. Sven’ll avoid the shot for logical reasons

D'hara |

Grapple check, control, one-hand divine favor: 1d20 + 10 + 5 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 5 - 4 + 2 = 31
The demon nearly knocked the wind out of her, but she would not submit so easily. As the demon writhed and wiggled within her grasp, she loosened her grip just enough for it to roll over and be chest to chest with her. She could feel it's hot, boiling breath on her face. It didn't matter. Not that anyone would know, but she enjoyed these moments. As the demon brought it's foot to bear, she slipped her own arm up around it's neck and squeezed harder, locking it in place. Her free hand snaked down to her hip and freed the quick-catch spiked manacles.

D'hara wraps her arms about the creature, bringing its chest close to her. She can smell the foul taint of chaos on its breath. Smoke threatens to blind her. But, still, she struggles on. Her manacles are at the ready, she turns the fiend to face Sven and his readied arrow.
The demon, selfish and undisciplined, stares its own death in Sven's steely gaze. It slumps in the monk's arms. It values its own life greater than its duty! Such a shameful, disgusting creature! "Fine! I yield!" it spits in the foul language of the Abyss
I need sense motive checks from anyone who thinks the creature is faking surrender.
End of combat.

Aurilous |

First attempt to write this, computer died on me...
Aurilous pulled himself out of the fire, his crusader tabard coming off in ashen pieces. Up close, it was evident that his armor was not that of a crusading paladin, but rather, a hellknight. Given the religious prayers etched on every inch of the plate, it was a mistakable difference. As he got to his feet, he immediately began praying.
Infernal Healing cast. Assuming this makes him full? If not, will deduct a few more spell slots
From his armor, it should be clear that he is a member of the Godclaw. The religious writing are prayers to the Godclaw: Abadar, Asmodeus, Iomedae, Irori, and Torag. The tenants of the order distill the harshest, most lawful doctrines, of those deities. This outward display of piety would lead to a hellknight who follows up on the goings of his/her brothers to know that this is Sir Aurilous, a pious hellknight who is often attached to Crusader forces. He is also used to track down heretics and bring them to justice, a task in which he usually operates independently.
"Brothers, sister, thank you for your aid. I was tasked with bringing a heretical dwarf to justice, and was caught unaware by these creatures. I was paralyzed by their magic, and if you did not come along, I would have died by their hands."
As he said this, he looked over at the surrendered demon.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
He had no idea if it was telling the truth or not.

Sven the Mazebreaker |

Sven glared at the creature, his bow ready to end it's life.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Sven will go into NPC status around this time, as I move over to playing Aurilous.

Kevroth |

Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12.
Seeing that the man he had rescued from the flames was nothing less than a full Hellknight, Kevroth salutes the man, "It is well that The First led us here in time, Sir Aurilous. I am Kevroth, Armiger of the Gate."

Aurilous |

Aurilous returned the salute. ”Armiger Kevroth...why does that sound so familiar?” With halberd in hand, he stood near enough to the surrendered demon to strike. ”Would this be the same band of Armigers that stew the Minotaur Deradnu and the heretic Jeslyn at the gray garrison?” He looked over at D’hara and Giosue. Sven had already wandered off to continue scouting. ”I had heard of a group of armigers who were making a name for themselves. It is good to know that my rescue is but another deed to your names. Now, I believe that the field rightfully belongs to you.” He said this to the group, in general. ”What will you do with your prisoner?”

Kevroth |

Kevroth nods in affirmation, "We did Hell's work at the Grey Garrison. Here, we are honored to be of service." Kevroth spits in the direction of the demon, "As for that, I would as soon simply end it. We cannot trust anything it might say."
