Answering the call of the Cleftwood elders for brave heroes, the six of you are the only ones who responded and came to their aid. You spent the week prior to your grand adventure preparing, crafting, and drinking; and now, it is time for your journey to begin. Gathered around the town square, the elder council is standing in front of the Great Hall to address you and and your concerns.
The cave that Longtail retreated to, it is no ordinary cave. Within lies a fortress of legend - a dungeon of Celestial creation. No one is sure how much time passed since its creation; history has forgotten the quest of the celestial heroes. One thing is certain: the earth is an unforgiving mistress and her power cannot be held back.
An earthquake cracked the foundation of the dungeon. The rift spread for miles, nearly ripping the dungeon in two. Into the rift flowed magma, but it did not boil the occupants of the dungeon. The temperature rose beneath the earth, and the cold home of the unliving became capable of sustaining life. No one knows what lies in waiting, but you may be unfortunate enough to find out. Before you set out, we will do our best to offer any knowledge you seek.
Now is the time to ask questions that you may have or find usefull, and they will answer with what scried knowledge they have obtained. When everyone has checked in and made it clear they are ready to set forth, the quick march to the cave entrance begin.
I will be posting spoken dialogue in bold and thoughts in italics.
Gyness Stout
Gyness steps up and looks at the people sending him on his first adventure.
It would seem my first adventure will be a grande one at that. I pray Cayden watch over me and protect me.
If this place was to keep things in what do you know about getting out?
If this menace has gone into this celestial dungeon will they not be stuck if there is no way out?
What special equipment do you think we need if these beasts were put here to keep them away from good?
Gyness chuckles lightly causing his rotund belly to shake, but it is obvious it is a nervous laugh meant to hide his true uneasiness.
Thalrik Korun
Sounds to me like any questions we may have are ones that cannot be answered, atleast not by those who have not set foot inside.
The voice came from a tall elven looking man garbed in simple traveling clothes. The only thing marking him as more than simply another commoner come to see the party off, was the many component pouches at his waist, and the live mongoose perched on his shoulder, its tail wrapped around his neck for support. His violet eyes, shining black hair and fair elven complexion would have made him seem handsome to some, yet it was all spoiled by the haughty, disgruntled expression he wore upon his face.
As for your question holy man, I doubt these people are willing to trust in the dungeon to contain this evil...Otherwise, why would we be here?
He glanced sideway at a large man at his side, as if to silently ask for his thoughts on the matter.
Old Willow
Old Willow has been waiting with the elders for a while now, being a local and feeling incredibly invested in the affair. As they came in she did her best not to judge but when she saw that priest walk in a scowl crept up her face.
Oh great, a fat drunk with an imaginary friend, just what we needed. At least he came equipped.
But she listens as he asks his question
And at least he's got a brain
Even so she cant help herself and lashes out
Arent you worried of running dry while we are in there? she says pointing at the beer that sits in front of him.
She looks at him for an uncomfortable amount of time, hoping to see him squirm.
The boy has a point. Anyone of you younglings know your way around the traps that we are certain to find down there?. I can patch up those who are hurt but i dont bring back the dead. As for special equipment I hope the rat slayer brought some silver or killing it is going to be a long time of it.

Gyness Stout
Looking at the elf as she has her little tirade Gyness erupts in a hearty laugh that is full of amusement and sounds sweet as a birds song.
You my dear elven lady are even more wise than you are beautiful. But we have not to be worried of drink where ever we go fir the great Cayden has blessed me with the ability to create beverage. from water to dwarven ale or even the finest elven wine I need only to pray and he gives me the ability. Did you care for some wine.
Gyness holds up a wine glass and says a prayer.
For the glory of the most high man to become god and for the bewilderment of those who do not believe I pray that you fulfill that which should flow freely
As he finishes the glass he holds fills with wine. Gyness hands the glass to the elf.
Enjoy the grace of Cayden
Gyness smiles at her and bows with an honest humbleness.
Master of Dungeons
Addressing the questions brought on by Gyness, the elder that seems to be in charge steps forward. We have not set foot inside, our people are a superstitious lot, and caves created from earthquakes couldn't possibly bode well. It would seem getting out is a bit harder than one would expect, seeing as none of Longtail's crew has exited that cave. Either that, or they have found something of particular interest to stay holed up. Our only understanding of the dungeon comes from divination, and we haven't found out much. The ancient magic of the celestials may have worn off by now, and entering and exiting may be as simple as opening a door. Weapons and armor will be your greatest ally, after that any amount of dungeoneering equipment will surely come in handy. The celestials use an old, powerful magic - and none of the mundane equipment we have to offer could rival them. We simply wish to have Longtail brought to justice in order to prevent further harm on our village, but whatever you find in there...we cannot expect you to abandon for the sake of a small village. The old man is wheezing, trying to catch his breath after such a long-winded explanation. Another elder approaches, placing his hand on the tired man's shoulder, nodding to let him know that he would take it from here.
Thalrik Korun
Thalrik frowned even more than before at the elders words.
I cannot speak for the others, but I did not come here to go prancing around in a dungeon, following random whims of fancy. I would personally see the task done before satisfying something as trivial as curiosity.
He looked around at the assembled people.
Either way, I should like to get this over with at the first opportunity. Ill be waiting on the road whenever you have seen your questions satisfied.
He turned to his travel companion, placing a hand on his shoulder tugging lightly, before nodding at the man and walking off.
Kowus Orc-Hunter
Kowus looks to the left and and right eyeing each indivdual who will go into the caverns with him. They don't seam to be much of a threat to Longtail. More like amateurs trying to get a free ticket for the show. Where are the real fighters? Where are the mercenaries?
Mark my word old man. We shall bring Longtail to justice. What can you tell us about about him and his party? Also what equipment did you see them carrying?
Facing the cleric he says If fat belly man will provide drink then I will find what food I can down there. Last thing I need is grumbling stomachs attracting danger.
Old Willow
Dont flatter me boy, i'm four hundred and seventy years old she says her age languidly.
I know what i look like and i know pretty is not the word for it anymore. Do you think me a blushing maid? As for your drinks, you can keep them for yourself.I dont want them and i dont need them.
Willow refuses the glass and gets up and walks to the coughing elder.
Take a seat Cassius. Have you been drinking the tea i gave to your wife? Here i got some herbs here, i'll brew you something to soothe yer lungs.
Herbalist 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
The secret is a bit of a mix between mint and eucaliptus, you add some long pine needles and you get a good strong drink. There that should help you feel better. If you listen mister Stout you might actualy learn a thing or two about actually helping people She says the last part as snidely as possible
Master of Dungeons
He is a rat-folk sorcerer who more charm and wit than one could need. He's not as powerful as he lets off, but the dull creatures he has mustered wouldn't know. They were seen in traditional battle garbs. The orcs mostly wielding axes and clad in hides and armor. The troglodytes carried blowguns and spears, while the kobolds seemed to be carrying whatever they could find for a weapon. How he managed to turn an Ogre towards his cause is beyond any of us.
Gyness Stout
speaking loud enough for her to hear but not directing it towards her exactly.
A human, elf, dwarf, or half-orc can live without food for over forty days. But one can live only three days without water. And a waterskin only holds one days worth of water.
Turning to the witch Gyness directs his response directly to her
You let your own pride cloud your mind. You may be old but you act as a child... a spoiled one at that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I have no need to flatter any one. But if you wish no water from me that is fine I shall give you none. But if they are right with where we are going you shall perish without water in less than a week. But if your pride is more important than your life so be it.
Gyness turns and walks away.
Magnitofera Skeller
Please, dear Gyness, don't go. Old mother Willow is wise in her years, and we both should hear her, and ponder her words.
Magnitofera tríes to take Gyness hand to make him stay.
We will need to stay together in this quest, my dear companions. From now on, your needs are my needs, your enemies are my enemies, and your fate I will gladly share with you. What little strength I have is now at your service, and may Torag bless us all!
She turns towards the Elders and kneels before them.
Fathers, and Pray thee for your blessing, and ask for whatever knowledge you are willing to let this, your daughter, learn before she goes to fulfill your commands.
She remains on her knees waiting for them to answer her.
Gyness Stout
Feeling the gentle touch of the dwarf Gyness stops and listens to her once finished Gyness displays a bright smile and uses his other hand to pat hers.
Ohh I am not leaving just going to make final preperations and pray for our journey. And the witch doesn't truly bother me at all. Sometimes age is wisdom and sometimes it's just old.
Leaning down to speak quietly.
May the strength of Torag and the cunning of Cayden be with us. I fear we will need them both
Old Willow
Why that little bastard, calling me a fool? i've a half a mind to put him in my knees for a spank
Have a good day, young men She says to the elder.
Its time i go my way, the wayward Longtail wont bring himself to justice while we flap our gums. Oh my sweet Maggie, you came. Well get off your knees before you give these men any ideas. Come and give your arm to me. We'll make our way to the cave now
Willow exits the building, calls for Jicix who was grazing nearby and starts trudging her way to destination. If Magnitofera follows her, she bleeds her ears telling her how she wishes she would stop saying Torag so often and how she cant believe that shes going to have to spend so much time with that cleric. It has been a while since Willow has had visit, she talks quite a lot and listens very little.
Magnitofera Skeller
Ohh I am not leaving just going to make final preperations and pray for our journey. And the witch doesn't truly bother me at all. Sometimes age is wisdom and sometimes it's just old.
Magnitofera's expresion changes when she hears "and sometimes it's just old"...
Please don't say that, we should not doubt Old Mother Willow wisdom, and she is dear to me and hurts me when she is not well treated. Too many people thinks less of her, and believe me, she doesn't deserve other than respect and gratitude. And yes, we will need all the help we can get, and her's will be very important. She looks into Gyness' eyes and smiles, and then goes towards the elders...
Here it continues with the Elders part...
Master of Dungeons
Magnitofera As you bend to one knee, requesting any knowledge, a crooked old man draped in ragged robes approaches from another room. I am afraid we do not have much knowledge to offer, but in return for your gracious services, we spent the night crafting this. He reaches into his robes and pulls out a small wrapped parcel. Pulling away the cloth, he reveals a small wand. A curative wand, to remedy whatever dangers you may encounter. It is the least we could have done. He smiles and hands it over, pulling you to your feet.
Willow and Thalrik are ready for departure, just waiting on the others.
Kowus Orc-Hunter
Grunting at the cleric's reaction towards his offer Kowus makes his way to the exit and right at the door he turns at the elders. We will Longtail's head even if we have to fight the celestials for it.
He leaves angrily from the hall making slow and lazy steps towards Thalrik. You missed nothing. It seams that the dungeon will challenges will challenge not only our bodies but our spirits as well. Since we have to share camp for many a night let's get acquainted. He raises his hand Kowus Orc-Hunter, I'll be tracking these foul beasts even till the bottom of hell. Let's go. The others points at the Willow and Thalrik's figures in the distance are already on their way and I don't want us to split in two groups right from the start.
Magnitofera Skeller
Have a good day, young men She says to the elder.
Its time i go my way, the wayward Longtail wont bring himself to justice while we flap our gums. Oh my sweet Maggie, you came. Well get off your knees before you give these men any ideas. Come and give your arm to me. We'll make our way to the cave now
For a second Magnitofera doesn't know if follow her or remain on her knees, but she quickly gets up, bows towards the elders, and excuse herself.
She gives her arm to Old Mother Willow and follows her.Willow exits the building, calls for Jicix who was grazing nearby and starts trudging her way to destination. If Magnitofera follows her, she bleeds her ears telling her how she wishes she would stop saying Torag so often and how she cant believe that shes going to have to spend so much time with that cleric. It has been a while since Willow has had visit, she talks quite a lot and listens very little.
Magnitofera hears her attentively and quietly, except when she mentions Torag, where she interjects "But Mother..." before getting quiet again.
After she mentions Gyness she tells her:Please, mother, forgive him, he is young like me, and human, he only need time to know you. And he is nice, in his impulsive and merry way.
And at other time she asks:
I don't know what to feel about our other companions. One of them seems really distant and cold, and the other has the blood of the orc in him. What do you think of them mother?
Magnitofera Skeller
A curative wand, to remedy whatever dangers you may encounter. It is the least we could have done. He smiles and hands it over, pulling you to your feet.
Yay!
Thank you father, we will treasure it as much as your blessingAfter that she follow Old Lady Willow. As soon as possible she offers the wand to her.
Mother, please have this, I think you can make better use of it than me
Old Willow
Thank you dearie, what is this wand? Curing you say? Well i'll be sure to pass it around, i may not like that fat priest but should something happen to me I trust with this at least he could help me.
Willow takes the wand and tucks it into her haversack
Where we are going, grim men are needed. Killers are rarely happy men and make no mistake Maggie, that half-orc has killed before but i dont think he would hurt us. I hear he came to hunt the orcs. As for the other two, first impressions are not everything. Best remember that dear. Did I tell you about the fox that has started coming to the house. At first I thought he had rabies but then .... She goes on talking until they reach the caverns
Magnitofera Skeller
Magnitofera tries to look back towards Thalrik and Kowus, and grimaces as she imagines a life of strife, death and hardship, without the love and warmth of a family and a community. A hard life indeed.
She wasn't able to imagine a life cursed by having the blood of your hated enemy running on your veins, and dedicate that life to hunt those like you to kill them. Wasn't it like killing yourself?
She decided to try and be as gentle to them as possible, and ease, as much as she was able, the pains they endured everyday of their existence.
She wanted, but didn't dare to ask Old Mother Willow, if she herself one day would become a grim old killer, with a hard heart, alone and without love...
Would she knows what she was thinking?
Thalrik Korun
Thalrik looked Kowus up and down, then tilted his head to inspect the offered hand of greeting. He glared at it for many seconds before finally offering his own hand in greeting, apparently satisfied that the hand was clean enough for him to touch.
Yes, acquainted, seems resonable. I am Thalrik Korun, novice Wizard, apprentice to Rindal Korun. My contribution to this endeavour can not be as easily outlined as your own, magic is not as simple as tracking and fighting.
As he belittled Kowus' profession, his face displayed no malice to the words, only a matter of fact expression.
I have the knowledge of many kinds of magic, but you could call me a Conjurer, if that means anything to you. I make things appear. I make things move.
He looked back at the other approaching members of their group.
However I am not ready to leave before my..."brother" joins us. I wonder whats keeping him.
Evandrik Zale
didnt realize we started! Apologies!
Evandrik resist's Thalrik's beckoning tug, and takes in the scene. Watching people interact is more telling than talking to them.
The old crone must be powerful to have been summoned here, and she dislikes the priest with a venom. Could prove dangerous or useful. I fear the priest may fall first unless his girth hides swift legs. Thalrik I can trust, but he'll not ingratiate us to the others. The rest seem competent, if green.
Evandrik steps forward, flashes an awkward grin, and brushes his tangled black hair from his face revealing hornlike bumps on his brow. His tail sways behind him, and his 7 foot frame is intimidating yet awkward. He plants a comically large axe in the ground before him and says, "I grew up delving in trap-laden ruins. I can get us in and out. And I brought enough rope for the lot of us. Can never have enough." He adds this last bit as if matter-of-factly delivering the most sage advice, then nods and hefts his axe over his shoulder, following after Thalrik.
Evandrik Zale
Evandrik walks up to Kowus and offers his hand. "I'm Evandrik. Orc-hunter, eh? We don't get 'em much where I come from, but I can tell you plenty about killin zombies, skeletons, and other unliving nasties. We should compare notes sometime."
Magnitofera Skeller
Magnitofera asks Old Mother Willow...
And what about the tiefling! I had never seen one like him, and I can't believe he is so bold to walk around us people like he wasn't ashamed of what he is... From the lot of us, I think I won't be able to be at ease with him around, much less trust him. What can you advise me Mother?
Kowus Orc-Hunter
Shaking Evandrik's hand firmly the half-orc smiles at Thalrik. Orcs are easier to deal with, with undead you never know if they'll keep coming back after a hard hit. Let's just hope that we won't have to deal with them though from what I heard from the peasant's tales, I wonder.
After numbering all the people in the party and returning back to Evandrik and Thalrik he couldn't help ask the questionSo did the two of you became brothers. You look and act so... different. Did he provide conjured zombies for practice?
Thalrik Korun
Thalrik raised an eyebrow at Evandriks rather familial interaction with Kowus.
Dont get too attached to our companions just yet Thalrik, for all we know several of us may be dead before the day is done. Best leave the sharing of history for the camp fire.
At Kowus' comment, Thalrik showed some actual emotion for the first time.
We are brothers of circumstanse, not blood, although such a distinction matters little to me, just as your own heritage carries little weight in my estimation of you Kowus. I will leave your actions to determine that for me.
But I will hear no further talk of the undead and my magic. Necromancy is an abomination, a plague that has taken root in the magic of our world and never seems to heal. I have studied its foul ways, as is required of any mage, but you will not hear the words of its making on my lips. Only the most dire need would compel me to do so.
As the last three members catch up to them, he repeats the greeting he offered Kowus.
Now, before we get on with it, I suggest we take a moment to nominate a leader. I believe in everyone having a say in matters pertaining to their own survival, but if an issue should end up having opinions split evenly, we need someone to have the final say. I think everyone can agree we do not have any need of getting bogged down in discussions down there.
He looked around at everyone for a moment before continuing.
I nominate Evandrik. I may be the scholar, but I trust more in his instincts than booksmarts, for the right decisions.
Evandrik Zale
Evandrik grimaces at Kowus' unintentional accusation if Thalrik, readying for the rebuff. He is surprised at how mild Thalrik responded. Thalrik, like at market day, it helps if we are nice to people. Besides, I look like a monster and you're an arrogant jerk in most folks' eyes.. We could use what passes for friends among this lot to watch our backs. I have feeling this'll be more dire than the dungeons back home. Evandrik tries to keep his voice low.
Kowus, the three of us know better than any that blood may shape our destiny but it is not what makes our soul.
Thalrik Korun
Thalrik exhaled sharply through his nose as Evandrik finished speaking Knows more? Hrmph unlikely. Rindal may think highly of her, but if what little he told me is true, unless we need to help birth something to succeed...
Gyness Stout
Gyness puts hand on Evandirk
I think Evan here is a great choice. It is obvious that he is a scout of some renown. He has hunted undead and any hunter of undead is a friend of mine. And what better recommendation than a man of magic and intelligence. I will trust in your instincts friend teifling.
Looking at the others he will continue.
I have studied a little of your heritage and it is known that not all of your kind is what people assume. It is sad that still in this day people can not look beyond what is on the outside. They miss the heart of an individual when they assume they know them without ever knowing them.
Laughing and slapping him on the back
You sir have my rapier my shield and my healing
Evandrik Zale
Evandrik squeezes Thalrik's arm just above the elbow twice, quickly, as he always does when he wants him to just wait and see how it plays out. I've got a notion I need to see through little brother Evandrik thinks as he flashes the half-elf a grin.
Evandrik, bemused by the cleric's eagerness looks to his new comrades, "If I get the vote, I'll do my best not to let you all down. But I am not a leader by nature, mind you."
Thalrik Korun
At Evandriks hidden request, Thalrik shot him a sideways glance, then shrugged and stepped a few yards away from the group, retrieving his spellbook and starting to read through the pages. It always amused him that Evandrik was the one who had time for pandering to peoples expectations of "proper conduct". But he had traveled far more than Thalrik ever had, so in a sense it was only natural Especially when you look like he does, one has to adapt or get into trouble.
Magnitofera Skeller
Magnitofera looks at them ill-at-ease, and then towards Old Mother Willow. She stands tall (well, as tall as possible) and says to them:
I am sorry, but I can't follow... him... I only answer to my principles and my faith, and they don't allow me to take orders from... Evandrik.
I will fight alongside him, as I promised before the Elders, but I won't follow him.
And if a leader must be chosen, Old Mother Willow shuld be it, as she is wise.
But don't forget, no matter how the vote goes, I won't follow a tiefling orders, I am sorry, but I must be true to my beliefs.
Old Willow
Willow looks at each adventurer for a few second, as if she was weighing their worth with nothing but her eyes. She spits on the ground some foul phlegm and presents herself.
Aye, my name be old and forgotten in the winds but here i am know as Willow. I have taken care of Cleftwood and its people since its birth and now I need to protect it.
Master Thaldrik your suggestion is wise but precocious. There will be no voting for a leader today. We are strangers still. One of us will no doubt rise to the task but just like with dairy, the cream will float to the top. I'm afraid voting for a leader now will only end in conflict.
She looks at Evandrik for a moment. I think he will do, but Maggie isnt ready yet, maybe in time
By the feys but you are ugly. She reaches to touch his cheek with a mothers touch Such a pity, such sorrow She goes to replace a stray strand of hair but takes her hand back before.
Forgive Maggie, she is young still and knows little of the worth of a man. In a few days im sure she will stop seeing the devil in you.
She takes the wand out of her haversack.
The elders have been most generous to us this day and have given this wand to us for our quest. It will help heal our wounds. I can use it, who else? She puts the wand in the saddlebag of Jicix This is Jicix, she will be coming with us. If any of you need the wand call her and she will come deliver the wand to you.
Willow looks at the buildings around her, the small houses with all of her families inside, the smoke of hearth fire plumeting above. She takes on good last breath, smelling Cleftwood in.
Its time for us to go With that said she starts the treck, Jicix bouncing a little ahead of her.
Thalrik Korun
The sound of a heavy tome slamming shut punctuated Magnis last words. Stood unmoving, his back still turned, Thalriks voice reached them.
What is that belief then...Paladin? That a person be condemned at birth for the crimes of their family? That blood ties makes one irredeemable, no matter the heart that beats within?
He looked over his shoulder at the short woman.
I have studied religion as well as a great many things. Ive read of the exploits and examples set by generations of paladins, Tieflings and, as you would say, "worse" counted amongst them. But never did I believe your thoughts to be theirs. But then again, theres more than one kind of paladin in this world.
He started to pack his book away, moving away and towards their destination, his back again turned to the group.
You have my vote for the lady Willow, if it will make our endeavour be on its way faster.
I realize this is pretty harsh, rest assured its Thalrik, not me speaking here. I feel I need to make that clear, because sometimes the distinction gets lost in translation and people get offended personally. Now lets get going :)
Magnitofera Skeller
Magnitorefa nods as Old Mother Willow speaks, and after she finishes goes with the group towards the cave, ignoring Thalrik words.
No issue with Thalrik declaration. He is right, and Magnitofera is wrong. But she has to learn it by herself.
But I have to say it... a leader with Cha 5? :S
Thalrik Korun
Id defer to a wise / intelligent leader before a charismatic one (although that charisma may win me over). The leader doesnt have the be the one to speak for us though.
Kowus Orc-Hunter
The half-orc puts his hand on Evandrik's shoulder. I am sorry my friend but, you seam slightly... hesitant in this affair, the Willow witch may be old but look at her go. At this rate we will finish this job in no time. And my ears will hear less conflict. He then fallows the others to the entrance of the caves, satisfied by the fact that they have an organized group.
Gyness Stout
Moving up to Maggie Gyness will give a smile.
Maggie, I heard you called, flows nicely off the tongue will it be fine if I call you by this shortened name?
After a slight pause for the answer
very well than. If you haven't already noticed I am a scholar of sorts of religion. I have studied the mighty Torag and would love to hear his teachings on hating Teiflings that you alluded to just now. I haven't read of them. Growing up wirhout a family I never had someone I could put full trust in, the clerics were always comming and going. It must be nice to believe in someone like Willow without reservation.
Master of Dungeons
The trek to the cave entrance is as easy and comfortable as you could ask for. A cool breeze, bright sun, and straight path leading to the entrance make it a simple task. As you climb the mountain, rocks and debris slow your ascent. Numerous tracks of different creatures ascend the hillside. The climb levels off as you get closer to the cave mouth. You see a man the size of a galleon lying on the ground at the cave opening. As you get closer, you can see that death has taken him. Despite his obviously decomposed state, the man does not exude the odor of decay. There are no signs of a struggle. The cave entrance is dark and narrow. You are only able to see in 20 feet before it the shadow is all consuming.
When you decide to enter the cave, try and determine a walking order. I will use this as the default marching order if nothing different is mentioned.
Thalrik Korun
At the sight of the large dead man, Thalrik stopped to sift through the knowledge in his head, trying to determine who or what it was or had once been.
Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Knowledge (Nature) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Knowledge (Planes) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Knowledge (Religion) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Kowus Orc-Hunter
While Thalrik ponders who that man was, Kowus searches the victim all over with his glaive for finding anything useful or any clues as to what might have killed him. I have no idea what could have done this. Could be anything. I suggest me and the tiefling to go first as we can see further and will probably not get in a fight if he ducks when I'll ask him to.
First position if there is space for two medium creatures side by side otherwise second.
He takes a bull's eye lantern from the backpack showing it to the others. We could either use this right away but I'm afraid we'll be out of oil soon. Or we could just go stealthy using ropes for danger signaling. He looks quizzically at Willow expecting her to make a decision. What do you think?
Knowledge nature1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Perception1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Magnitofera Skeller
Magnitofera looks at the huge corpse, and makes a quick prayer for it... She doesn't realize the absense of smell means anything, as she has no experience with dead bodies.
Mother, can you discern why it died? Master Kowus, can you check for prints in the dust, to see if our enemies pass over here, or where this being came to be here?
She stands guard in front of the entrance to the cave, trying to see, hear or smell something from the inside...
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
[ooc]About the march order, Magnitofera goes first, shield raised, a drop of sweat in her brow, a prayer in her lips, warhammer in hand, and a small tremor in her knees [/occ]
Evandrik Zale
Evandrik gives Thalrik a swift kick in the shin when he votes for Willow, then watches the rest play out. He seems stoic at the talk of his bloodline.
Dwarven lass, he adresses Magnitofera with a warm smile, "I would have imagined dwarfkind would judge the worth of others by their deeds and their hearts, not by the length of their beards..." He points to her chin at this last bit, implying her gender.
"We all struggle, lass." The first sign of frustration passes briefly in those words, and he follows the group. "The goat seems t'know the way. Onward!" Evandrik chuckles a hearty, but forced laugh as he heads onward.
The climb is little trouble for Evandrik, and he aids the others where he can, often lifting the priest and crone up to lofty ledges, and giving the rest a boost when needed. And he freely shares his absurd amount of rope.
Upon seeing the corpse, he kicks it to make sure it is not a zombie, then asks Thalrik what he makes of it (unless its species is obvious), then he looks for any useful oversized (large) weapons or gear.
Gyness Stout
darn phone lost my long post
Gyness will gently move to the fallen creature and examine it for religious emblems or markings then study the body for cause of death and finally search the body for useful items.
What could have caused a big fellow like you to die? Well let us see to it then.
know religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
heal check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
search check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
After finishing looking over the body Gyness creates water blesses it and sprinkles over the giants body. he then silently prays.
may your body mind and soul finally be at peace.
Gyness than stands up casts light upon his shield and walks to the entrance.
it would seem that I may be the onky one at a disadvantage without bright light. If you all do not mind I will be the tourch bearer and would like to be upfront in the walking order.
Old Willow
Willow gladly takes Evandrik's help when offered. She takes the opportunity to tell him in a hushed voice
When Willow sees the dead titan her step falters for just an instant.
What in all the hells is this thing
She walks up to it and inspects it for signs of Necromancy or unlife, then she tries to recall anything about creatures of this size and discuss them over with Thalrik (aid another)
Religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Arcana 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Nature 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Dungeon 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Planes 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Lastly she tries remembering when was the last time something like this was seen at all.
History 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Local 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Willow peers into the cave and after a while the darkness seems to only deepen to her. She listens for a little while
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
If she hears anything, she will suggest going without torches as quietly as possible so as not to reveal the presence of the group, if she dosnt she says.
We've got enough armor here to wake up a sleeping dragon. That noise will echo ahead of us and reveal our presence to our foe as much as any light would. Better go in there with the lights on, unless Evan and Kowus want to go see ahead of us.
