Cormaeg shakes his head in dismay at the news that despite the squad having thinned out the enemies INSIDE the room, now soon there might be more of them anyway.

We NEED to finish this, the pressure is mounting.
Dear lord of mankind, hear a humble sergeants prayer, bless us in our time of need!

With no other option Simmins wills himself to stare blearily back at the monster and go full auto on it.

BS: 1d100 ⇒ 56

@Cormaeg: You add to the carnage by a quick stab against the Nobs left arm. The blow probably would have been but a minor nuisance were it not for a sudden jerk of the Ork reacting to Thud'drs attack which drives your whirring sword deep into your targets arm. The Orks hand momentarily looses grip of the two-handed weapon as muscles are torn and shredded by your chainsword.
@Leni: Mentally readying yourself for a quick dust-off, you keep your lasgun trained on the door, ready to let hell loose upon the first sign of greenskins coming through.
@Krish: (still up, yes +60 is still max total modifier)
@Simmins: You gasp for air like a fish on the land following the detonation ripping the air out of your lungs. Despite the red and grey fuzzing your vision, you bring the stubber around and let loose against the Ork boss. Bigbull does not even flinch under the salvo, but you clearly see two new bleeding wounds in the Orks chest. (Crit result: 2 levels of fatigue = -10 on all tests, Temporary Toughness Damage: 1d5 ⇒ 4)
@NPCs: BlueOverall comes round and stops coughing violently. Staring at the brutal melee, you can clearly see that the militiamen decides that he does want nothing to do with that and instead turns towards the stairs leading up to the next level, hands gripping his combat shotgun white and trembling. His fellow is still crawling on the floor, violently vomiting and retching.
@Ork Reinforcements: A knot of four gretchins stumbles into the room, clearly against their will, judging from their wailing and screaming. Leni lets loose with her lasgun, scoring two hits, each dropping one of the scrawny creatures. One of the little buggers is howling and throws himself flat under the closest desk, both hands over its head. The remaining one is looking around the blood-drenched room in surprise, clearly wondering what to do next. Nasty laughter and shouted commands can be heard from the outside.

I assumed that a nob would have more than 5 armor and more than 11 points in TB soak, and I have to inflict at least one point of damage to do the smiting.

You do some damage.
Not more than a scratch but some damage makes it through.

@Krish: Your stab, while barely hitting the Ork, managed to draw a tiny amount of blood, shorting the warp circuit you need to try and blast the Nob into oblivion v2. This time, the warp lightning lashes into the beast. The crackling power searches and find the weakest spot - the huge rupture of Thud'drs latest attack. It sizzles through the bleeding wound and vanishes into the body of the Ork... the Nob has enough time left to utter a single, quizzical word: "Wut?" - before he detonates from within with the force of a small grenade, splattering everyone within three meters with boiling hot blood, bone fragments and viscera (6E, ignoring armor). The gun of the Ork is flung backwards, landing a couple of steps behind the desk.
@Bigbull: The Ork boss manically laughs at the death of its last Nob. "Harrharrharr, see wut ya get fer talin' back ta me, ya groz. Hummies blowin' yer gut out. Harharhar!" He casually shoots his kannon at Blueoverall, the shell hitting the man directly, eradicating the militiamen from existence.

Close now...

The wily old Sergeant realizes that this is where it might all end, and so this is where he must prepare for it.
Krish's warning doesn't really change much, as the melta still needs to get to the Ork.

Sprinting forward to cover, Cormaeg spends a moment to retrieve the bomb and make it ready.
In his mind, there were three options for what might happen next.
The ork might shoot and the cannon might explode, which would be good.
He might be wily enough to not shoot, which wouldn't be as good, but still not bad, especially if he moved closer.
Or he might shot and it might NOT explode, which would be the worst option.

Either way, Cormaeg made ready...

The hot blood and viscera doesn't even phase Thud. His tough hide takes the punishment without trouble. With that threat dealt with, Thud's beady, frenzy-reddened eyes focus on the last, greatest threat. As Lenis lasgun cools down from the first salvo she has a split second to make a decision - Gretchins are not worth full auto salvo, at least not two of them. But letting up on the suppressive fire is also not a good idea or the voices behind the door eventually find it more funny to get in themselves. So to conserve ammo she switches to normal output
And now to make a well done kabop out of the one that's stupid enough to loiter in the firing zone...

Full Auto Salvo on the Gretchin standing without cover

But it seems Lenis enthusiasm doesn't bode well for the professionalism with
which she handles her gun and a stream of courses come from her position. If
only those could be converted to coherent light, the Gretchin would be atomized!

Ammo now at 38/60

@Simmins: Intend on keeping up the pressure on the stoically motionless Ork boss, you keep the trigger pressed until the tiny, ugly, metallic *clack* indicates the hammer just hit empty air instead of another bullet. At least two shots were on target though.
@Leni: Your volley would be too high even against full-grown Orks, not to mention the small gretchin. Still, the gretchin is jumping towards his kindred below the desk with a yelp.
@Thud'dr: You get up the long, steep staircase to level three in a hurry and make it through half the scorched area, Bigbill in your mental crosshair.
@Cormaeg: The melta-bomb lies heavy in your hand, making it utterly clear that throwing this thing is not an option for you.
@Krish: Adding another concussion to your growing list of similar injuries, you get the feeling that your bad leg did not profit from the beating it took. Not at all.
@Militiamen: The last one of the fire team to accompany you slowly gets back to his feet, still shaking from the inhaled gases. He fumbles for his gun which fell to the ground as is covered in his own goo.
@Bigbull: Nasty red glowing eyes fix on the charging Ogryn and then the game of toss-a-gretchin going at the door. Then he fires his gun again. For a short, terrifying moment you might though Thud'dr to be his target this time. But then the shell flies overhead and crashes into the double-door blasted them off the already badly mauled hinges, opening the entrance wide. The shot is accompanied by fierce yelling. "Stop yer grotzin 'round, ya gitz! Come in 'ere and mosh up da hummiez! WAAAAGH!!"
@Ork Reinforcements: Echoing the bosses warcry ["Waaaaaagh!"], a trio of Orks come rushing into the room, shooting their sluggas into the air and waving their choppas around.
@Zzap-Gun: With a roar like a berserking Grox mixed with a blazing furnace, the Ork energy weapon blows up, melting everything within 5 meters, causing the left-hand staircase to loose its lower six steps.

Very suddenly Thud is feeling much better! He takes this as yet another sign from the Emprah that he is fighting his calling!

@Krish: The power of the warp come in due time to catch most of your remaining squad members in its reach.
@Simmins: While reloading absentmindedly, your hear scuffling and groaning from behind you. Looking over, you see Cort dragging himself over to your side, muttering curses at the entirety of the universe as he does so.
@Leni: Hotshot lasguns fill the air around the incoming Orks and you hear the distinct, aggregated whining of your powerpack, being sucked dry with alarming speed.
@Thud'dr: Rushing forward you reach the final stairs and pounder up the steep, double-dozen staircase. Then you are there. Face to face with Ork Boss Bigbull, with only the massive mahagoni desk between the two of you. Up close he is a massive creature, forcing even you to look up into a monstrous, scarred face.
@Cormaeg: The stairs feel like they drag on for ages and the third level stretches for long seconds but at long last you reach the final staircase leading up to the final level which one held the desk of the head scribe.

@Militiamen: Caught in the wave of (painfully) healing warp energies, the man straightened up and slams his autogun on the same spot, an Ork gunner was standing not to long ago.
@Bigbull: Eye to eye with the Ogryn, the Ork grins a menacing, wicked smile and let the weapon it was clutching bang to the desk, then grips and produces a massive chainaxe that was leaning against the broken window behind it. The weapon comes to life with a coughing of black exhaust and the teeth start whirring with a sound like a tortured planet. The Ork points at @Thud'dr: "Ya a big'un. Sure ya not one of da Kommando boyz? Maybe ya got hit on da he'ad an forgot who ya're? Fightin' for da wrong bosses? I culd use a boy like you. I'v got two Nobz to replace..."
@Ork Reinforcements: One of Orks howls in surprise as an overcharged lasbolt singes it's scalp and dives to the ground, next to the gretchins - to the amusement of the two other Orks. Each of which is hit by a lasbolt for their trouble. Both stop laughing and look around, clearly searching for their attacker. One is rushing and shooting to the right, where @Leni once stood, clearly not seeing her at all. The other one though, is rushing to intercept her, catching up to her at the staircase leading up to the safety of the second level, brandishing his cleava in a very discomforting manner. A fourth Ork is entering through the door, wielding a wicked-looking whip made of chain and metal spikes, hording a group of four gretchins in front of him.

She pull out one of her smoke grenades and dials down the time to explosion to 1 second as Krish arrives and attempts to stave in an ork skull with his staff.

Blind fighting: -20 on melee attacks, -30 on ranged but that doesn't matter here.

Feels like a bare miss

@Thud'dr: Your strike is powerful enough to push aside the half-raised axe of your enemy and bite deep into his arm, the moment-flash of the disruptor field enough to easily cut through the Orks hard metal armor. Blood is sprouting out and cut muscle snap like torn ropes.
@Cormaeg: Under cover of the the Ogryns titanic onslaught you hurry in and slap the melta charge against one of the Orks massive legs, slightly above the knee joint after nearly missing your target entirely. The Emperor must have heard your quick prayer: the magnetic clamps engage and the charge is fixed. A tiny red light flashes at the hilt and starts blinking. The 6 second timer has automatically engaged!
r@Krish: The Ork clearly did not expect a counter-charge, making your attack a clear hit, evaporating a fist-sized chunk of xeno meat from your enemies hip. The Ork roars with pain but does not go down, despite the massive wound you just inflicted on him.
@Leni: The smoke of the grenade immediately starts to billow around you, spreading swiftly, reducing basic vision to a point where you cannot even see your own outstretched hands. Putting on the goggle replaces the null vision with the familiar, frizzled heat signatures and faint outlines of objects.
@Simmins: At this range (across the entire lower level) the spread of the shotgun really starts to show and several of the small shots hit your target. (I guess you meant the Ork in the far-right corner yes? Also: which fire mode were you using? single?burst?auto?)
@Militiamen: The last survivor of the local fire team is pouring suppressive fire onto the desk providing cover to one Ork and two gretchins as well as the door area. While he does a good job spraying the area with bullets, luck is not on his side and only a single round bites into Xeno flesh, toppling one of the newly arrived gretchins.
@Runtherder: The newly arrived Ork shouts at the swarm of gretchins before him and hits one of them with the large pole he is wielding, clearly herding them forward, despite the hail of incoming projectiles.
@Gretchin Swarm: The half a dozen gretchins surge forward, probably to afraid of their handler and sure in their numbers to register the insane danger of running headlong into salves of automatic gunfire...
@Bigbull: It seems the Boss-Ork did not even register Cormaegs action, being to busy raging at the wound suffered from Thud'dr. "Waah, ya groxin fegga! Me stompin' ya flat! " He follows his word with hefty swing of the whirring weapon against the large bloodied frame of the Ogryn! This time it is the weapon of the Ork who forces aside weapon raised to parry and cuts deep into the right arm of @Thud'dr! (oh-oh, this is going to hurt... 29R, Pen:2, Bleed(2))
@Smoked Ork: The Ork roars and swings around blindly. @Leni is surprised by the sheer luck of the Ork and is barely able to throw herself back in time to evade the worst of the attack. (take 7R, Pen:2, Bleed(1) if taking any damage)

5 wounds to start. Soak 13 for 16 applied damage. 5 wounds takes me to 11 damage. At that point I enter critical *again* and my toughness applies a second time thanks to true grit absorbing 9 additional damage. Pen 2 means I do take 4 critical.
No actions yet. I'll wait for Sarge.

Thud's cut is good, but this monster gives as good as it gets. Thud can't dodge in time and the ax rends its way into his right arm! Blood of Ork and Human now flows freely and mingles on the floor. A strike that would have easily and messily cut any normal human in half knocks Thud to the side and down to the ground! He lands in a heap that shakes the sturdy floor! Thud's vision goes from frenzy red to mostly black as his body fights to contain what looks to be gallons of blood pouring from the wound!
stop bleed please?: 1d100 ⇒ 29
Thud's arm is torn to shreds, but his natural toughness wins out. You can't tell, but the blood just barely manages to coagulate inside the wound site.
Thud's eyes drift as he fights to maintain consciousness. He's lost so much blood! A single beam of light falls across his eyes from a stray bullet hole in the filthy glass behind the Ork. Thud sees the sun and in the sun, the figure of a golden Man. The Man smiles. Thud feels a warmth drive away the inner cold seeping up his arm and will: 1d100 ⇒ 32 - Frenzy ended a peace in his soul. It was ok. The Emprah Proteks. Thud had done enough. The vision of the Man is suddenly blocked as the Ork steps back while recovering from his swing and the Man is replaced by a tiny, blinking, red light. Thud's eyes struggle for half a second to focus. The blinking light is attached to a thing. The Boomy thing Sarge had been carrying...
In record time Thud's brain adds 2 and 3 to get 1.75 and then rounds up to 17. He had to protect the Sarge! The Ork was about to blow up! He looks up at Sarge...

Oh Grokk! Not now!

Despite the realization that Thud might very well end up dead, Cormaeg still felt his very veins fill with ice at the sight of the massive Ogryn toppling.

Knowing that there was no way he could drag Thud away, The Sergeant allowed himself one more split second moment looking at Thud before taking his own advice and retreating from the soon to be very intense energy outburst.

It still stabbed at his heart to leave a man behind like that, THAT was something that damned well never got easier, and never ever SHOULD!

Disengage

Thud hears the order, then watches Sarge disengage. He hauls himself up and almost passes out from the pain. He brandishes his Evicerator in his left hand between himself and the boss Ork as he also disengages. His right arm hangs limply at his side.

Withdraw as well

Per the Discord: agaility: 1d100 ⇒ 69
Thud tries rolling to his feet, but rolls the wrong way to avoid rolling onto his weapon and rolls onto his wounded shoulder. He groans and stumbles his way to his feet as his vision blurrs. The good news is he's on his feet and providing cover from the blast for Sarge with his bulk. The bad news is he's not as far from the Melta as he maybe could have been...

@Krish & Leni: Together you bring the Ork down, Leni's stab making the Ork stagger long enough for Krish to drive his staff deep into the chest of the Ork, letting the projected energies cook and melt the Orks organs until the hated red eyes dim and the Ork topples to the side.
@Simmins: This is what you trained for. This is where your weapon of choice excells. A fresh box of ammo clipped and loaded. A solid bracing. Elevated position. Onrushing monsters in the open. Close range. It really is too easy. The wave of gretchins falls like weed before the scythe and their handler suffers a horrible headshot but is shielded from even worse by the bodies of the gretchins he was herding.
@Militiamen: Witnessing the carnage Simmins unloads against the Ork open-mouthed and actually forgets to fire his own gun.
@Ork Reinforcements: The gretchin wave is gone. The rest runtherder tries to recover from the near fatal headshot and stumbles forward a couple of steps. The Orks and gretchins covering below the desk cower a bit lower as the blood and gore of their kindred splashes the already bloody ground around them. Only the Ork to the far right still seems to be eager to get into the fighting and rushes into the thick smoke, his head lowered like attempting to us it as a battering ram. The goggle-wearer clearly see him crashing into the wall some three steps beside them, ricocheting off the wall and fall to the ground, dazed.

@Cormaeg & Thud'dr: The deed done, you retreat. The Sergeant makes a clean withdrawal, probably still unnoticed by the huge Ork. The Ogryn on the other hand... Staggers to his feet, the right arm ripped open all the way down to the bone but is too dazed to get away from the Ork with the necessary speed...
@Bigbull: With a roar, the boss steps upon the desk, now towering like a Titan over the Ogryn, axe in both hands and raised for the final blow: "Yer's a hummie after all. Tailin' da moment da smoshin' starts fer real. Lemme show ya REAL smo..."
"SSSSZZZZZCHRRRRROOOOAR!!!!!"
A blinding light hurting in the eyes even if you aren't looking directly at the source. For those who do look into it, they will find themselves blinded for several seconds before their eyes start to recover from the sudden overload.
Then the sound over overpressured air and a shockwave of heat that even Simmins, Leni and Krish can still feel in their necks.
As everything is over, you see the Ork boss lying on the remainder of the desk. Both it's leg missing from the hip down. The right side of the office's wall sprouts a new hole, still glowing white-red along the edges.
Unbelievably, the Ork seems to still cling onto his Emperor forsaken life. He waves his axe around feebly, trying and failing to reach Thud'dr, his eyes wide in damning understanding of his situation...
As for @Thud'dr... as by pure divine intervention, the Melta blast was directed to the right, 90 degree away from the Ogryn, thus he 'only' suffered the heat backwash rather than the actual blast. It is still intense enough to immolate clothing, hair and to make the blood covering him start to steam. (that would be another 18E, Pen:4 and your clothes are now on fire but that is mostly cosmetic compared to the heat of the Melta blast...)

GM-only:

Simmins Vs Gretchins: 5d100 ⇒ (5, 29, 4, 79, 20) = 137

I think I lighton fire regardless, but doesn't hurt to roll.

The flash HURTS. Then the burning comes. his back lights on fire and it's all he can do just to stay with it. The pain drives him to the floor. He moans and writhes there in obedience to the Sarge's orders. Thankfully, his clothes are soaked with blood and he puts out the fires pretty quick.

saved for later. Though we were out of structured time:
He staggers to his feet yet again and turns back to the feebly flailing Ork. He looks half dead as he labors to walk over to his foe. The evicerator sputters at his side. He reaches the Ork and revs his weapon back up before striking! The blow lands on the Ork's forearm and Thud leans into the hit! He literally disarms the orc in one, profound blow! He struggles to recover, but he manages it. He raises the Evicerator over his head and shouts,
Emprah is Victory! Glory be!!
With a triumphant shout and roar of the engine the evicerator falls onto BigBull's chest and the sound of ripping flesh, spattering fluids, and splashing viscera join the chorus to the Glory of the Emperor of Man.
That done, Thud takes the Evicerator one more time and severs the head of the Ork Horde. He picks up his prize by the stub of it's spine and turns back to his Li'tle 'Uns.

"BIGBULL IS DOWN! NOW FINISH OFF THE REST OF THEM!"

Not being able to properly use the Bolt pistol was less important now that the target was unable to properly dodge or avoid a bullet, which is why Cormaeg draws the Commissar's weapon for it's intended purpose, execution by headshot.

"Olways, keep covering the door, anything green stick it's nose through, you shot it off!."

"Krish, Tivnan, finish of the stragglers and then find Lucky or his corpse, he had the vox. He should be in the rubble of the desk by the left staircase on the lower level."
