Olimpia Beta II
Let me give you a hand with that Figgy. If we gotta go in, might as well do it right.

Olimpia soon figures out how to rig something that will get teh door open.
F2. Front Hall
This grand hall is ten feet wide and twenty-five feet long. A large
metal door stands at the west end of this entry, while three other metal doors stand in the walls at the opposite end. The middle door is slightly smaller than the others, and a metal wheel is mounted in the center of each door.
What now?
Raktar Garnok
Raktar peers in through the open door, his chainsaw held ready. Through the gloom he can make out three doors, large metal slabs with wheels set in the centre like the door they have just opened. His suspicion aroused her turns back to the group.
"I'd be surprised if there weren't a selection of traps somewhere around here. Do either of you want to check it out?" he asks Figgy and Olimpia.
Olimpia Beta II
I'll check, you make sure we are not locked in. Olimpia adds. She will activate her helm to increase her perception and advance, taking 10 to search for traps as she does so. Giving her a 38 to find traps.
Korvan Vosh
Korvan stands by, blade in hand, waiting for his more keen-eyed companions to be satisfied with their searches.
GM_DBH
Olimpia The north and south doors are clear. The middle door is a trap! Marked it with the lightning bolt.
Trap: The eastern door appears to be an access hatch, but it is in fact a false door that opens onto a vent of hot oil and gas from the tower's inner workings. When the wheel of this door is turned, the door suddenly slams open from the pressure built up behind it, spraying burning oil into the hall as if one of the pipes beyond had accidentally sprung a leak.
So you can go north or south?
Raktar Garnok
Assuming Olimpia warns us of the trap...
"That would have been pretty unpleasant," says Raktar, all too aware of the severe pain and long-lasting consequences of widespread burns. "Shall we try this one?" he asks, moving towards the northern door and holding his chainsaw at the ready.
GM_DBH
No Figgy failed the roll to get the door opened.
Olimpia examines the door and finds it untrapped, she easily opens it.
F4. Hallway
Schematics of incredible complexity, each mounted in an elaborate wooden frame, decorate the stone walls of this curving hallway.
The schematics feature images of metal monsters, strange vehicles, and technological wonders. The hall curves north at t h e eastern end, rising to the upper floor in a staircase.
What are you doing now?
Raktar Garnok
"What is all this stuff?" Raktar wonders, his limited knowledge of technology failing to comprehend the drawings that line the walls. "Do you think it's valuable?" he asks to no-one in particular as he walks down the hallway, looking around him as he goes.
Raktar Garnok
Figgy tries the door again, putting more oomph into it this time.
[dice=Disbale device taking 10]10+16
Which door are you on about Figgy? Olimpia opened the main door, and has just opened the second as it was neither trapped nor locked.
Olimpia Beta II
Figgy, we can take them down and take them with us. They could be cut from their frames and folded into bags. But later. Olimpia suggests.
GM_DBH
The drawings on the walls are someone studying a technical diagram on a screen and drawing by hand. Hard work but very pleasing.
Init Furkas: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Init Figgy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Init Korven: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Init Dilana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Init Olimpia: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Init Raktar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
As you study the framed art works one of them seems to bubble and a smoky figure pours out of it, glaring at you with hatred and rage.
Some form of ghost.
Olimpia, Figgy & Raktar can have on action on the surprise round.
New map for the battle. Choking tower level 1.
Raktar Garnok
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
"Look out!" Raktar shouts as smoke pours out of one of the drawings, coalescing into a humanoid figure with an expression of pure hate. He doesn't recognise the form, but it evidently isn't keen on letting them past, and knowing how unprepared they all are he makes a suggestion. "Everyone get back!" he shouts, "let's get out of here!"
I'm not sure we're in a position to be attacking an angry smoke monster without some preparation. I'd vote for a retreat, and if others concur I'll use my surprise round action to move 50ft out of the tower.
Raktar Garnok
"I've no idea, but it didn't look pleased to see us," Raktar says as they regroup outside the tower. "I think we need to be more prepared to go back in. I just didn't feel like we were ready to take on an evil smoke thing."
Korvan Vosh
I thought we were in the surprise round. You hadn't called us out for actions in the surprise round.
Seeing everyone else retreat, Kovan holds his ground until the other are by him. Once they are all by him, he begins to move out of the tower.
Dilana Hemlock
"It doesn't look familiar to me, probably undead or some such. Not sure what we can do to it."
Will Arcane/Hisoty/Nature/Planes get me anything?
Know: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
As she talks she slowly backs out into the open.
Raktar Garnok
"I don't know," Raktar replies to Dilana, "but I don't think we want to go back in unprepared. It'll know we're here now, but I know I'd feel safer with some spells in place before we encounter it again."
Assuming people are happy and we have a minute or so, I'll cast some buffs on everyone.
GM_DBH
Sorry I posted yesterday but it got eaten. This board is really creaking at times. It is a Know Religion check to identify this thing. Just a hint, take the buffs. :)
It looks like this. What is it?
Raktar Garnok
"No, we go back in there and take it on," Raktar says determinedly. "We still don't know what we're facing, but we know it's not going to let us through without a fight." Raktar closes his eyes momentarily, centring himself, before opening them again as his scarred skin flashes silver, his magic pulsing through and around the group in a burst of brilliant light.
It's buff time team:
Me - bull's strength, shield of faith, lead blades
Korvan - lead blades
Everyone - bless, extended prayer
I'll also activate my chainsaw and my hardlight shield before we go back in.

Korvan Vosh
Pretty sure lead blades is a personal spell.
Raktar Garnok
So it is. Misread it as range - touch. My bad.
Olimpia Beta II
If its incorporeal then I can't sneak attack it either. Magic Weapons will do half, etc. Olimpia can and will make her weapon Ghost Touch for a minute. She will also cast shield. Hmm, with Ghost Touch can I sneak attack an incorporeal creature?
Dilana Hemlock
Outside and no longer so freaked out by not knowing what is going on Dilana assesses what she can do.
"I can try fire, electricity and... ummm..... well I can vomit a swarm... never mind." she looks about for a moment "Magic works on most things maybe I can kill it. Too bad it didn't follow us out."
Raktar Garnok
If its incorporeal then I can't sneak attack it either. Magic Weapons will do half, etc. Olimpia can and will make her weapon Ghost Touch for a minute. She will also cast shield. Hmm, with Ghost Touch can I sneak attack an incorporeal creature?
You can indeed:
Incorporeal Subtype: An incorporeal creature has no physical body. An incorporeal creature is immune to critical hits and precision-based damage (such as sneak attack damage) unless the attacks are made using a weapon with the ghost touch special weapon quality. In addition, creatures with the incorporeal subtype gain the incorporeal special quality.
Olimpia Beta II
Sweet! Of course I am so gonna be this thing's target once I do so once. :)
Are we ready to go back in? I can only do this trick with my weapon twice a day.
Olimpia Beta II
Figgy could you use some of that Mercurial Oil to Increase weapon damage on my ghost touch weapon?.
Raktar Garnok
"Let's get going then," suggests Raktar, now feeling much more ready to confront angry ghosts. "Olimpia, do you want to have a sneak ahead and see if it's still there?"
Figgy Greasefitter
FIggy will give Olimpia a potion of Invisibility.
I will stay in the middle, if we can keep that thing distracted, Olimpia may be able to get a good blow in." Figgy says
Olimpia Beta II
Sure, I'll stealth in. That potion should help a lot Figgy. But since my enhancement of Ghost Touch only lasts a minute I will not activate it until right before I attack. It costs a moment of combat but I'd not waste even a round of the ability.
Drinking the infusion Olimpia becomes invisible, and with swords in hand stealths back into the tower.
Stealth: 1d20 + 17 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 17 + 20 = 48
If this creature can somehow see invisible creatures then that is still a 28 stealth.
Dilana Hemlock
Dilana moves up with the others, avoiding the front line but trying to keep to the middle.
Korvan Vosh
Korvan moves in, keeping moderate distance from where he assumes Olimpia is.
GM_DBH
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (15) + 23 = 38
The creature still drifts in the air, but as Olimpia stealths into the room it suddenly acts. Casting a spell on the doorway behind her.
Wall of force.
It cackles in a whipering voice. "So nice of you to return, one by one you will all fall!"
Olimpia. The creature has cast a spell as his action for the round.
Anyone trying to get through the door finds it blocked by an invisible wall.
You may now act
Raktar Garnok
Raktar follows up, keeping behind Olimpia so as not to give her away with the grumbling motor of his chainsaw. He hears the sound of spellcasting from ahead and, fearing for Olimpia, rushes forward to help her. He bounces off the doorway, just about keeping control of his chainsaw as he staggers away. "What the...?" he mutters. He lays his hand on the invisible wall and channels his magic through his scars with a burst of silver light, trying to open the way to Olimpia.
Move Action to move 20ft, Standard Action to cast dispel magic to hopefully get rid of whatever is in the way.
Dispel check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Well, shit.
Figgy Greasefitter
Figgy quickly drinks his potion of fly, going up into the air with Springy to try to find another way in to the building.
"We are going up to find a way in, Dilana come with me." Figgy says
Perception to find a way in: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Olimpia Beta II
Still invisible and with little else to do Olimpia activates the Ghost Touch of her weapon and prepares to fight. She 5' steps back so as to not be too close.
Korvan Vosh
Korvan hacks away at the barrier hoping to bring it down.
Not sure how adamantine weapons work with the spell in question.
Damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 2) + 11 = 17
GM_DBH
Figgy there is only one window on the tower, 50' up, it is barred with metal rods and looks like it opens into a bedroom.
Korvan your weapon skids off harmlessly.
Hardness 30. Which all applies, even against an adamantine weapon.
spellcraft Dilana: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22 Oh thank f&&!ery!
"It's a wall of force!" Dilana calls out urgently. "Everyone get close to me!"
Dilana casts Dimension door and takes herself, Raktar and Korvan through into the room this round.
The creature was about to cast again when it sees Dilana bringing the others into the room. "A clever one I see. I'll have to do something about that!" It hisses in annoyance, fading back through the walls and leaving you all standing there on edge.
The Wall of force fades away after a minute.
What are you doing now?
Raktar Garnok
Raktar barely registers Dilana's shout before he feels as though he's been flash-frozen and rapidly warmed again as he appears on the far side of the invisible wall. He raises his chainsaw to strike at the ghost but it fades away before he can engage it. "Are you OK?" he asks Olimpia.
