Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer shakes the mans hand, subtly pressing ten gold into his hand and smiling.

Shadow Lodge

The man blanches a bit a Mortimer's approach, clearly believing the "something nice" to be Mortimer himself.

He takes an awkward step back, "Not interested. Not judging, just not interested." He tentatively extends his hand at the wizard's gesture, the feels the coins and starts.

"Oh, very persuasive. Yes." He pumps his fist to take the weight of the coins, and his face falls slightly. "Of course, I could lose my job if I were found to neglect my duties. Worse, for accepting bribes? I could go to prison. What will we do here?"

He shakes his head as if in wonder.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer's smile doesn't falter as he talks quietly. "I enjoy some of the finer things as well, but one must not sling money around too carelessly." Mortimer subtly glances around, then takes a small pouch and fills it with another twenty coins, handing it to the man. "And if you're the kind of man who cares, to help your conscience we don't even intend on causing any trouble. Just want to keep things quiet."

Male Human Rogue (swashbuckler) 7, HP 47/63, Fort/Ref/Will 6/11/3, AC 22 (+1 per sneak attack die)

Oh believe me, I understand what the higher-ups can do if you get on their bad side. That's precisely why we're making such an investment to keep things quiet, see? Wrong people hear too much about this group, we lose our jobs, and some sissy on a silk cushion has us tossed in a dungeon, see? You get to live like a king for a bit, and you can trust us to stay quiet because we'll be in as much trouble as you.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Esther will take a small pouch that tingles inside and will casually leave it it right next to the official (10gp)

Shadow Lodge

"Welcome to Isteroth. May your visit be short and invisible."

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Indeed good man she says with a smile

Male Elf Wizard 20

So, where to?

Shadow Lodge

That's up to you lot :)

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

How many sailors do we need to crew this ship? because we can head to some of the tavern on the dock and hire what we need. Eramus and mortimer should do the talking there. Sailors don't usually don't like taking order from woman as they consider us to be weak. Then we will get supplies and then leave

Male Elf Wizard 20

"I believe Erasmus can handle that himself. Perhaps we can now work on selling off some of our loot so we can afford these sailors?" Mortimer will grab the nearest kid by the shoulder and take a knee. "Would you tell me where the market district is? There's a shiny silver in it for you."

Shadow Lodge

The street urchin smiles a yellow grin: teeth far too stained to be a child. Those teeth tell Mortimer what his eyes did not notice...this is a grown man, hi growth somehow stunted.

"No markets open at this hour, wizard. Got a lot of baubles there I can tell. You want a good price? You follow me."

He begins strolling toward a darkened alley.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Well if this is going to be a trap... at least i am ready she thinks as she follows with her sister

Male Human Rogue (swashbuckler) 7, HP 47/63, Fort/Ref/Will 6/11/3, AC 22 (+1 per sneak attack die)

Erasmus will sit at the ship, not wanting to leave the slaves or the Vice-Admiral unattended.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer humphs. "Thank you for the kindness. Some are intimidated by my ability to level entire buildings, but I see you have no fear and see a good business opportunity." Mortimer lets the idle threat hang, arcing an eyebrow and letting the girls enter first.

Shadow Lodge

Halfway down the alley, the little man slides a barrel aside to reveal a small staircase leading down into some sort of cellar.

"Watch you head on the fifth step, the ceiling lowers a bit. Afore long, you'll come to a door what is closed and barred. Knock twice, pause, then knock a third time. Then say, Panzemel's plump pizzle. Any trouble, just mention my name: Fizkin."

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer waits for Fizkin to leave, then casts mage armor on himself. "I'll watch your back."

Shadow Lodge

Sorry if it was not clear: Fizkin appears to be the door man. He is waiting for you to enter.

Male Elf Wizard 20

[ooc]Then Mortimer just quietly casts mage armor and motions for the ladies to move in.[/b]

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Esther follows in after the wizard

Erianna moves in after the others, her eyes watching their surroundings carefully.

Shadow Lodge

Ok, you are all moving in after the others. lol. Someone take initiative or you'll all get stuck trying to go in at the same time and you'll starve to death. :)

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer shakes his head, taking the first step in.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Esther will follow

Shadow Lodge

Inside, the cellar is musty, smelling of dirt and rancid water and wood rot. There doesn't appear to be any way in or out of here but the way you came.

This thought flits through your brains as the little light fades.

Darkness, cloying and absolute, envelopes you.

Don't ruin it :):

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

Then, suddenly, arms of dirt and stone close about your waists and shoulders and drag you down into the very ground!

After what could have been hours, but in truth was mere moments, you feel air on your faces again and gulp down air in ragged gasps and choking coughs.

After a moment, your senses return and you find yourselves standing in what most closely resembles a mine shaft. Beams of good, stout wood prop up the ceiling at the corners and similar woodcraft lines the roof above to prevent collapse. At the far end of the small room, you see an iron gate barring a doorway to a corridor beyond.

Beside the door squats a vaguely humanoid shaped creature comprised, it seems, of mud, clay, and rock. Sullen, dull orange light is barely noticed in the depths of deep pitted sockets under a heavy shelf of brow.

The creature notes your presence with a palpable tolerance and nothing more.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer coughs, clearing his throat of the dust and dirt before addressing the creature. "Who are you?"

Shadow Lodge

A voice like rock sliding on gravel issues from somewhere near where a mouth would be.

"Am Grenit. You through there. Now."

The creature indicates the iron gate.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer examines the rock creature, nodding as he moves through the iron gate.

Shadow Lodge

Roll KN: planes, arcana, and/or nature if you wish. I guarantee Mortimer has never seen one of these, but he MAY have read about it.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Knowledge Arcana/Nature: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 171d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

that is some big security measures after all

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer:

This is some form of golem or elemental. You've read about wizards and powerful priests of old who would routinely employ such creatures, but the art is mostly forgotten now. You are likely the first 3 people, other than those working for this organization, in a hundred years to see one in person.

The creature looks incomparably strong and resistant to force as the earth itself.

Beyond the iron gate, the three companions follow a switchback corridor until they come to a small room with a desk.

Behind the desk sits a man of perhaps 40, his salt and pepper beard the only true sign of his years. His eyes are sharp and he has the feel of a shrewd man of business.

He stands, leaning into the desk with both palms down on the table.

Right. You have things to sell and I have the money with which to purchase said items. Get them out and let's see what we can do."

"What a reception" - Erianna comments - "How much for one of those outside?" - she asks without a hint of a smile.

Shadow Lodge

"Not for sale. Now, place your wares on my table and let us see about a reckoning then."

His smile and warmth seem forced: strained.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Sell List:

+1 Light Mithril Steel Shield of Bashing - 5009gp
+1 Armor (+6AC, 4 max dex, -1 ACP, Medium armor) - 1050gp
+2 Falchion - 8075gp
+1 Armored Kilt - 1020gp
Masterwork Scorpion Whip - 305gp
+3 Earthbreaker - 18040gp

Seeing the man is all about business Mortimer gets right to it, loading his table down with metal. He lists all of the magical properties and how much they are worth as each item is placed.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Other than being a little grumpy does he seem ok? I don't want to get robbed or something.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Once mortimer show the good Esther will put herself forward and will point out the quality and the value of each items

If she needs to she and Erianna can haggle the price of each items. (if you wanted DM...)

Sister tag-team? :D

Shadow Lodge

Mortimer and Esther start their discourse and the man raises his hand and shakes his head. "Please, there is no need."

Once the last item settles, the table glows softly. The man nods slowly as the light around each item pulses slightly brighter than the others in turn.

"Right." He produces a bit of parchment from his trouser pocket and hands it to Esther with a wink.

Esther:

The standard rate is 16,750 golden marks, I will add 20% and guarantee you won't get a better price. That's 23,450 golden marks. That, or I can trade for an equivilent in gear or arms.

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer glances between Esther and the man, then holds his hand out. "May I?"

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

But of course she says as she hands his the parchment.

Male Elf Wizard 20

My maths:

Value of loot obtained
Erianna-11025gp
Erasmus-7000gp
Esther-12000gp
Mortimer-13000gp

(11025+7000+12000+13000+23450)/4=16618.75gp per person

Value that each member will obtain
Erriana-5593.75
Erasmus-9618.75gp
Esther-4618.75gp
Mortimer-3618.75gp

Sound reasonable?

Mortimer scans over the paper, a small smile coming to his face. "That is very generous of you. I cannot speak for the ladies here but I find this more than agreeable. I didn't catch your name." Mortimer says this with the air of not entirely expecting to get a name, and meaning no offense by asking so.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

We agree its a good deal

Math:

I like those numbers - may even buy something right away :D

Shadow Lodge

"My name is Richard, and you did not catch it for I did not let it free to be caught. If we are agreed then I suggest you be on your way. Your funds await you at the top of the stairs."

Behind you, the way you had come in, stairs now lead to the room where you entered this place to begin. Fizkin stands ready with four, heavy, leather sacks.

"Dinit I tell ya you'd get a good price? Here are your funds, now get to getting. I've got a lot of work to do afore sun up."

Each of you is handed a bag with the appropriate coin inside. Mortimer is given Erasmus' for safe keeping.

"That was definitely profitable" - Erianna comments to the others - "Let us see if we can get this money put to good use at the task we have ahead of us"

Male Elf Wizard 20

Mortimer shakes Fizkin's hand. "I'm glad we ran into each other, it was a pleasure." When they get a decent distance away Mortimer casts detect magic and scans each bag. He keeps frowning as he looks at the bags and thinks back, finally bringing the girls close and whispering. "That was a little too easy, I hope it was just good luck."

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

Before leaving i wonder where i could buy an efficient quiver Richard she smiles

Shadow Lodge

"Easily done." He produces one from beneath the desk. "Anything else?"
_____________

Mortimer scans the bags and finds nothing amiss.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

She leaves the value in gp on the desk As a matter of fact possibly yes.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

She thinks for a bunch of seconds then ask do you have a scroll of Greater planar ally or of Miracle?
