Hragas, would you do me a favor and put down Human(Dwarf) for Dion's Race? I just want to make sure you understand that even though you are using the stats for Dwarf, you are still a Human in this campaign.

How do you like these balls?

Please see post above.

Great, thanks.

Listen guys, I'mma going to be gone until tomorrow late. Continue posting, just make sure that if you have any questions, expect them to be answered in about 21 hours.

Why do are alot of these submissions for Fire benders? Maybe I should look at the class in the updated version file. I think i'm still the only Water Bender!

Background:
Li Wu Zhen was born to two non-benders that now live amongst the air benders at the eastern air temple. Former citizens of the earth kingdom, they moved here when it was discovered that Li was an airbender. They make their living as gardeners, tending the grounds of the temple.
Li's always had a good knack for air bending and a sense of justice. He was a hand full as a child, using his air bending to defend the non-benders from the pranks of his fellow benders. He seems to hear things on the wind, giving him a quick head start on anything heading his way. He's always got a smile and willing to help others. He is well liked by most at and around the temple, but getting along with people, or even air bending has never been his problem. Li isn't the most creative young man at the temple. While a gifted airbender, he has not earned his air bender tattoo. Many of his friends he trained with as youth have had theirs for years, but he simply has not been able to come up with a unique air bending trick that he can call his own. He's tried a few things, but they've all been deemed just a variation on existing flows. There is nothing more he can be taught, and the monks there have given him tasks to do to try to help, but all for naught.
One evening a man in a bird mask made an offer to help Li learn things he would never learn here, and he said good bye to the temple and his parents, agreeing to accompany the man, hoping his training can help unlock his imagination and he can return and claim his tattoo, and join the temple as a monk.

Crunch is in the character profile.

Baron: If you are the only Waterbender, you are pretty much a sure fire target for getting in. Just be warned that you will be on healer duty a whole lot.

Li Wu Zhen: I like it.

that's fine with me. I don't mean to sound vain, but I guess I should of PM'd you that instead then. Wonder how many more people will submit Water Benders because of that. Guess there really isn't a way of telling though. Also, what is your ruling on the "Water Bending enhanced on Full Moon, but no Water Bending on Full Moon"?

I think they ment No Waterbending on NEW Moon. I also think thats pretty far fetched, and I still don't have a page number for that, by the way.

OK, thanks. It's under the Water Bender section of "katas" and is children of the moon or something like that.

Sorry everyone, I misread. Water Bending is useless during a Lunar Eclipse.

So I'm not crazy. Thanks. Bend to your hearts desires under any moon except the no-moon. Gotcha.

Ok, quick edit on the background (I can not edit last post, blasted Husband not telling me if I logged off I could not edit >.<)

Background:
Adole is the only daughter of a construction worker for the Fire Lord. She's no stranger to hard work and heavy lifting. After her 5th birthday, she learned she was a firebender after trying some of the same moves she saw during the first Agni Kai her father took her too. She almost burned down her dad's bed, but he forgave her and set her up with some firebending lessons.

She feels like she's already surpassed her previous master, and has since sought out the aid of the bird masked man. Adole doesn't know she still

Stats:

Strength: 14 (+2)
Dexterity: 14 (+2)
Constitution :12 (+1)
Intelligence :12 (+1)
Wisdom: 16 (+3)
Charisma: 11 (+0)

I put the +2 that a human gets into Wisdom.

By the way, would you allow the Jawbreaker feat to apply to bending instead of spellcasting (and with quite a different flavor to it)

It sounds violent and I love it. As long as you qualify for it, go for it, Su Jiang.

Natalia: Looks good to me, but don't blame your husband, there is a 1 hour time limit for editing.

EDIT: Speaking of Violence, this is based on a childrens TV show. Lets keep the cursing to a non-existing level, Adult behaviors to a similar level, and certain subjects will be kept behind closed doors. Alright?

OK! fleshed out back story!

Quin Jee was born to wealthy parents, they were able to afford to send him to study under the great masters. However, having everything handed to him didn't do much for his drive to succeed. He eventually left the monestary under the protestations of his master that he was wasting his great potential. Moving back in to the comfortable life with his parents, Quin loafed around for nearly a year before they decided enough was enough and no son of theirs was going to be a no good layabout. They called in some favors and got him accepted into the Fire Army Officers school, there he met the bird masked man and his service began.

I know nothing about this mysterious masked man, so maybe hes just highly connected and heard about Quins potential and that interested him enough to come recruit him back out of the army for his own goals.

I'm gone for a few days but I'll make sure all is ready in time for selection next Tuesday.

The only thing on my wishlist really is armor for now. I'm sure there are items that can help me out there but armor is the only basic thing I'm lacking

You know element benders aren't proficient with armor right? They lose the AC bonus, fast movement and flurry of blows abilities.

Right, we also get no AC bonus at level one so not losing a whole lot there. Or do we get the Wis as AC at level 1? I couldn't really find it yesterday.

Yeah, its right under where it talks about armor and weapon proficiencies. You always get your wisdom bonus to AC and CMD unless you're wearing armor and an additional +1 every 4 levels.

Well then I should be ok with an AC of 13? Don't really have any dex, that's gonna hurt me

Hmm...just doing a quick tactical analysis, it looks like in most bender-to-bender combat the most frequently-targeted defenses are going to be, in order: your touch AC, your Reflex save, and your Fortitude save. Actual AC attacks will happen, but it's going to be more important for dealing with qi-blockers and other non-benders. Wearing armor is a direct trade-off in effectiveness in fighting the two groups, assuming you take proficiency. Earthbending, in the meantime, isn't a direct fighting style. Unlike, say, Firebending, a lot of what you'll be doing is remote combat maneuvers and limiting movement. I'm having a little trouble parsing the document, but I think that this is going to primarily be about your Wisdom score.

All in all, I would generally suggest going without armor and use the Earth-armor ability to beef up your defenses when you get it.

I was going to take Earth Armor next(?) level. or when I get another kata.

I noticed this before but didn't think of it until now. Just to be clear, am I right in reading that an Element Bending Monks unarmed attack does less damage at first level(1d4) than a regular monk (1d6)? I notice this is still higher than the 1d3 a regular unarmed attack does.

Edit:I assume its this way because you can seemingly throw in an unlimited number of katas into your flurry of blows.

Yes unarmed damage is lower than normal monks.

Alright, guys. I'm back from vacation. I enjoy that everyone is excited about this campaign. I might end the recruitment early because no one else has applied recently.

I'm excited to play a bender in the AtLAB universe...
But now that I have my air bender written up...does anyone else find these guys a bit lacking? Options seem to be very limited, and what can I just do as an airbender without learning a kata? Some of the katas (like slow fall, gliding, body of air, especially) should be the stuff he can do, just because he's an air bender.
I think they should start knowing all katas (except the ones limited by actual class level), only limited by their chakra level. Lets get s'more options!

EDIT: I'm going to post this in the thread that spawned the class and see what he and others think.

Alright, it's late, I'm tired, so I apologize in advance if this thing is full of mistakes, but here is my character. :)

Background stuff:

"Seirin, there aren't words to express how deeply disappointed I am right now."
Nearly in tears, "Papa, you aren't listening to me! I was doing what you asked! I was practicing, just like you all keep telling me to do. I didn't mean to set Mr. Ying's shed on fire. How was I supposed to know that the flames would go that far? They never did before."
"Stop arguing...just....just go to your room. NOW."

Hmmm...equipment...equipment....all I can think of is a Healer's Kit (MW or not) and clothes. Su doesn't really make good use of weapons or armor. There's probably some room for some of the alchemical equipment in there (I'm thinking doses of antivenom, antiplague, and things like that, NOT Alchemist's Fire type items).

As for my thoughts on the class...eh, honestly, if anything it looks overpowered when stacked up against standard Pathfinder characters. Since that's what it's actually trying to stack up against, it's probably fine.

If it helps, think of it this way: Aang, even as of The Boy In The Iceberg, isn't a low level character. He knocks around a dozen Fire Nation soldiers, battle-hardened veterans who are the bare minimum a member of the nobility deserves as a bodyguard, like they're nothing. Even before the end of Book 1, it takes an entire platoon of mid-level Zen Archers to make him seem outclassed.

Spoilers for Korra:
And while I know we see Aang's grandkids pulling off some serious stunts like it ain't no thing, they're also being trained from before they can talk coherently to fight. It's not unreasonable to assume that Air Nomads didn't normally train to such rigorous standards before the lead-up to the Hundred Year War.

I'd definitely be interested in this. Right now I'm at work, so I can't do more than skim the PDF link for details, but for my character I'm thinking either Airbender or Dragon-Style Firebender.

Right now, just dotting my interest; once I get home from work and have more time to think and finagle mechanics I'll write up a character proper...

Hokay, scrolling through the other submissions we've already got more than a few fire nation residents, I'll go with this young Airbender.

Background:
In all fairness, it must be said that Yiang Wei did at least try to learn to act like a proper Air Nomad monk, to detach herself from worldly concerns and dedicate herself to a life of asceticism, pacifism and enlightenment.

It just didn't last very long.

It's not really anyone's fault; Yiang Wei's temperament simply was never meant for the Northern Air Temple's peace. Even as a child she was spirited, energetic and insatiably curious about everything. She didn't just want to learn about the world from tomes, books and lessons; she wanted to see it. All of it by preference, but she'd settle for as much of it as possible in one lifetime.

The elder monks are of course used to a certain degree of youthful independence, and various time-honored methods generally manage to curb and contain these impulses until the children gain maturity's wisdom, but by her fourteenth birthday it was becoming more and more clear that there wasn't going to be any way to contain her short of incarceration -- which is anathema to the element of Freedom that air represents.

There really wasn't any alternative: gentle persuasion would not sway young Yiang Wei, and forcible methods would do far more harm than good. The only option that remained was to permit her to leave, and hope that once her experiences in the world beyond the Northern Air Temple would teach her the wisdom they could not, she would return.

So far, there seems to be little chance of that; while Yiang Wei has encountered the occasional hardship, it hasn't dimmed her wanderlust or her curiosity. And right now, she's intrigued what the bird-masked man may have in mind...

Stats to follow when I have a little more time.

One question, though -- is Lawful really a requirement for the class? After all, benders in the series run the entire spectrum..

Edit:Whoops, wrong poster.

Lookin good. Yiang Wei, I see what you did there, and I like it. There are no alignment restrictments, everyone is either a bender or not a bender.

Su Jiang, Aang has Main-character syndrome. He's naturally supposed to seem strong. Please refrain from picking Alchemical items, I'm introducing them in their own, special way.

Li Wu Zhen, What I'm going to say is that you can use Bending any way you like outside of combat. Inside, you have to use the katas. Imagine it like you can use air however you like, but in dire situations, you'd rather blast you opponent with air instead of jump off the cliff.

So outside of battle If I wanted to erect a rock shelter I wouldn't have to waste my Katas? Cool.

You ever see Toph create a Rock Shelter inside of combat?

Yes.

I guess I should say Spoiler.

Avatar Spoilers:

When the giant drill is trying to penetrate the Wall leading into Ba sin say (spelling?) She creates a shelter for them to hide in then they pop up and infiltrate. And she throws up walls to block fireballs. And other stuff that's wicked cool. Avatar hides in a ball of rock in his fight with the Phoenix Lord

You could conversly look at Kitara. Most of the waterbending she did was in combat, and almost none out of combat. But look at what she did do.
Aang pretty much did just as much in and out of combat, as with Toph.

So I wouldn't need the Wind Rider kata unless I'm planning to fly in combat?

Also, am I understanding correctly that you can take an additional Chakra Level instead at any time you can pick up an Elemental Kata -- sacrificing some versatility to improve the tricks you do know?

(PS: Didn't realize Yiang Wei was a real name, actually. Just mumbled chinese/tibetan sounding names to myself until I had one that sounded right. Haven't finalized the spelling, either -- might go with Yianhue instead)

1 Rock wall, 1 Deflect Element, and a very creative Encase.

Katara has the Bender version of Prestidigitation... Probably.

Actually, the newer one has increasing chakra levels per the class level. You won't be able to use the katas under dire circumstances unless you have the kata. IE you can't fly across the building tops to escape the city guards unless you have the katas. On the other hand, if you want to show off for uncle Ling, then go for it.

I think Toph may be a bad example as well. After all, she was more than first level when she joined the group. Would have had to be since she was regularly beating grown-up earthbenders in prize fights. So she'd have had a few katas.

I do like that out of combat we can do more stuff with bending. It makes sense to me. It's easier to keep your mind calm when you aren't in the middle of a fight.

I was planning on taking those :D as well as rock armor.

Well, is there a good example for out of bending goodness? Not Zuko, nor Katara and Toph or Aang, there was no out of fights in LoK except for training.

Yeah, after sleeping it looks like the alchemical medicines are...well, really expensive and not worthwhile for someone trained in Healing compared to just using healer's kit components. And those are really the only things I see as being available in the Avatar world before the Hundred Year War really gets underway. Antitoxin has some use in the middle of a fight, but the rest is pretty much trumped in most cases by a +8 to the die roll every hour or less, that's only going to improve faster than any saving throw.

....eh, it can wait I guess.

"out of bending goodness?" what does that mean? Do you mean out of combat bending? Like when boomie created plateus for everyone to ride on like little cars?

I'm sorry. I'm hungry. And yes, like that. There is not a whole lot of that. I hope you guys get out of that habit and get creative!

I have any number of ideas for creative bending solutions. I guess it's really up to you what I'm allowed to do. :P
