| DM Rickmeister |
Theor: 10 feet. Every SQ on the map is 5 feet.
After Theor posts, it's the creature's turn. :)
Leiff and Horatius are climbing upwards, succesfully but slowly.
The rope has proven to be very useful!
Theor Garess
|
Theor considers his options, having little luck in hitting the creature he worries he won't have anywhere to go after it advances on him once again. Quickly he looks back at the hole he climbed up and sighs shaking his head. "Here goes nothing..." He moves back to the hole and drops down, knowing he isn't going to last much longer up here with the creature.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
First 10 ft, non-lethal since I am intentially dropping :)
| DM Rickmeister |
Non-lethal indeed, but you aware that if I roll a 3+ on the dice you are still out?
Here goes nothing: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Theor Garess
|
Yeah but better to just be out then out and bleeding :P
Theor falls toward the ground trying to roll with the fall yelling "Help!" before a loud thud is heard while his body collides with the ground and he knocks his head pretty good and passes out.
| DM Rickmeister |
The creature's tongue can be seen once again, shooting down to try and grab Lynthara. It seems mostly unaware of the two people climbing upwards.
Touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Lynthara once again floats 10 feet above the ground, as the others are climbing or thinking of things to do.
Good thing you fell down and knocked yourself out Theor, this would have been a crit on you :)

PARTY UP!
Horatius Lartius
|
Can't look at the map atm so not sure how many more climb checks are needed.
Climb 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Climb 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Interesting roll set...hopefully I just needed one of those :)
Horatius continues to climb hand over hand making use of the rock face to aid him. After making some good progress he's distracted by Lyntharas call of alarm.
| DM Rickmeister |
You needed two, but you didn't fail the climb DC by 5 or more, so no falling (thankfully)!
| DM Rickmeister |
Since Theor is down, and Lynthara is grabbed, I'm going to GMPC them.
As the creature once again drags Lynthara upwards, Thaurux is found missing the tongue with his glaive. Meanwhile Horatius and Leiff are climbing, and almost near the top. They can hear the wheezing of Theor in front of them, and the screaming of Lynthara behind.
Party up.
| DM Rickmeister |
One check was enough, you still have a standard check left once you get up there.
Leiff, you require two since you were lower than Horatius.
Leiff Gunnarson
|
Leiff is still climbing...
climbing: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
added next one just in case
climbing: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
If possible Leiff will move towards Theor when he reaches the top.
Horatius Lartius
|
Pushing himself over the lip of the cliff face Horatius advances to where Theor lies on the ground to check on his companions condition. When he gets there he notes the gap in the roof above.
Second move action to get in position
| DM Rickmeister |
Lynthara, right now you see no target clearly enough, so you get a miss chance on any attack spells.
Also keep in mind you're grappled, so look up the rules for grappled and spellcasting.
> Other than that: cast away.
DMPC:
Thaurux is angry at the tongue, but can no longer reach it. He is contemplating climbing, but something makes him hesistate.
Meanwhile the creature is continueing to drag Lynthara upwards.
Next round, party up!
Map is updated!
Horatius Lartius
|
Not wanting to surprise the creature and cause it to drop the plucky gnome Horatius waits until he can see she has reached the upper ledge. In the meantime he draws his wand and uses it to revive Theor.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Theor Garess
|
Theor's eyes open slowly as the world comes back into focus. He rubs the back of his head where a huge knot now resides and smirks at Horatius "Thanks!" He points up the hole. "It's up there. Had a hard time fighting it with no light."
He will stand up and re-equip himself.
Leiff Gunnarson
|
"Light... you say"
Leiff pulls an arrow from his quiver. While uttering some words of power, the arrow starts glowing with a bright light.
standard action for a cantrip
Thaurux
|
Thaurux nearly died during his previous adventure with a fumbled climb check. Essentially if 5 characters need to make 2 climb checks and a fumble equals death then there is a 40% chance someone will die :P. And that assumes a 2 to 5 wouldn’t have the same result.
Thaurux stands ready to catch the gnome should she fall but feels otherwise powerless.
| DM Rickmeister |
Okay, perfectly good reasoning for your character.
You have noticed Thaurux that climbing the knotted rope should be a lot easier now, as you have seen Horatius 'slip' twice without falling.
((Just in case you'd like a mental nudge))
--
Assuming Lynthara is not going to do anything radical:
The creature continues to drag up the smaller gnome. She can start to see teeth flickering as the tongue constricts her tiny body firmly.
Party up!
Horatius Lartius
|
When Lynthara passes from view Horatius judges that she should be in the cavern above them and attempts to follow Theor up.
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Let me know if he needs a second climb check to get up there or if he has a standard left now.
| DM Rickmeister |
Horatius, yes you havea standard left.
Theor, stowing gear counts as a move action.
Thaurux, I know where your next skill points will end up ;)
--
Lynthara and Leiff, you're up!
Leiff Gunnarson
|
With two people trying to climb up in it's lair there isn't much room to go there at this point. Leiff looks at Lynthara being pulled up, noticing Thaurux at the ready to catch her.
He crouches to get a better angle into the hole from where the beast is ambushing, and speaks words of power. A burst of light shoots away from his hand and explodes in the darkness with a bang and a flash of light.
Standard action to cast flare. from where i'm standing i recon it will explode somewhere around (a) on the sideview map. range is 30 --> check. You judge if it is close enough to have effect. If it is, fort save of 13 for the creature or it is dazzled.
| DM Rickmeister |
Theor, don't forget that healing subdual and normal damage, it "doubles". So 4 subdual and 3 normal damage being healed for two, you end up at 2 subdual, and 1 normal. Right?
--
@Leiff: Good thinking!
Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
The creature is unaffected by the flare, probably because of the surrounding stone blocking a clear line of sight.
Meanwhile, Lynthara is feeling the creature's breath as she can feel the chitinous but hairy legs start to feel around it, ready to take a bite!
Party up! Lynthara is about to become FisherFood!
Horatius Lartius
|
Remaining Standard
Horatius makes use of his wand as he and Theor move up on the creature.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
This round...
Seeing Lynthara clearing the lip of the cavern the Paladin moves into action. Dropping his wand he slides his blade from its sheath and moves up to attack the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
Leiff Gunnarson
|
Leiff curses below his breath...
"Forbannet stamfisk av Lamashtu!"
cursed brood of Lamashtu...
he spits on the floor...
With the path clear Leiff follows in the footsteps of his fellows.
a few swift paces bridge the gap to the hole in the ceiling and he attempts to climb up in the creature's lair...
move action to get under the hole
climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The light prevents him from getting sure footing and the climb is not very succesful.
| DM Rickmeister |
More than 5 = Climb one quarter of your speed.
0<x<5 = You stay put.
0 = You fall
>> I edited the map to show your progress.
Lynthara lashes out, but fails to connect with the tongue.
Thaurux climbs slowly, but steadily.
Meanwhile, Leiff is trying to climb the last part, but the weight of his gear prevents him from making the initial jump high enough.
With the guiding light, the creature is now clearly visible and Theor's blade strikes true in the creature's back. Horatius has little luck hitting the creature, but does get its attention. It slices and cracks open the simple leather armor the paladin dons with its hind legs, and almost manages to claw hard enough to get to the chewy bits.
Lynthara remains trapped in the tongue's stickyness.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19>1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18>1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
| DM Rickmeister |
Horatius Lartius
|
Grunting in pain from the creatures return attacks Horatius none-the-less thanks Erastil for his armors protection before calling out, "Lynthara get hold of the rock."
| DM Rickmeister |
Leiff Gunnarson
|
"I think they found it!" Leiff shouts,
"still working on the last bit myself..."
Leiff continues his climb
climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Made two rolls to make sure he get's up there. Note: Leiff's backpack is still down there, He'll need to go back and retrieve it....
The clash above, motivates Leiff to make the final push. He climbs up and joins his fellows.
also drawing a sword if there are still actions left...
Horatius Lartius
|
| DM Rickmeister |
Leif, still have a standard action left, yes.
Thaurux, you can try two climb checks (move action)
Horatius, see spoiler
Theor, you still have a turn.
\/ This part doesnt't, as far as I'm concerned.
If you hit, you must immediately attempt a Climb check (DC = wall's DC + 10). Success indicates that you catch the falling character,
\/ This applies, again.
but his total weight, including equipment, cannot exceed your heavy load limit or you automatically fall.
Horatius Lartius
|
Horatius shifts over closer to Lynthara before trying to strike the creature again.
5' step
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 = 15
+1 to attack and damage if Leif is still singing
