"The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing"
The deities have spoken and an elite band consisting of talented inquisitors have been invited to join forces against the forces of darkness.
Hi All,
I am thinking of running a home-brew campaign of a band of inquisitors sent by their various deity to rid the world of various macabre horrors such as a witch coven, a vampire lord's castle, lycanthrope cave etc. The band will have a NPC Grand Inquisitor whom will assist the players in their adventures.
The inquisitors will each represent from one of the following deities. (Other deities allowed but prefer the major ones)
Abadar | Asmodeus | Calistria | Cayden Cailean | Desna | Erastil | Gorum | Gozreh | Iomedae | Irori | Lamashtu | Nethys | Norgorber | Pharasma | Rovagug | Sarenrae | Shelyn | Torag | Urgathoa | Zon-Kuthon
just an interest check.
(EDIT:Look like we have interested people, let's do this then. :) )
Guidelines:
Looking for about 5-6 players
25 points, Max gold 16,000 GP
Max 1st level HP, Followed by half + 1 of hit die. Eg: 1d8= 4+1=5 OR Roll your Hit Dices but keep results.
Races: Core Only
Alignment: Neutral, Good preferred. (Evil allowed but need convincing backstory and motivation)
Looking at character levels 6 and must have minimum 1 level of Inquisitor. Also players are encouraged to have mounts too.
Arcane magic is frowned upon by the churches. It is tolerated but not recommended. (Try to stick to divine magic users)

Your post states that the inquisitors must be from one of the <insert list> deities. But you prefer good alignments.
How exactly are you having an inquisitor of Zon-Kuthon (LE) or Rovagug (CE) that is good?
Well like I mentioned evil is possible with a convincing backstory and motivation. I just listed all the major deities for your choosing.

DM Jelani |

I'd love to do a pain taster of Zon-Kuthon. He/she definitely wouldn't be good though.
Edit:He would delight in inflicting pain on things that cause pain in others. Scaring or hurting an innocent villager is too easy and uninteresting. He's interested in hurting those who's job it is to hurt others. Ie monsters. Cause a vampire to beg for mercy, make a bugbear wish it had never considered murdering someone to begin with, etc.
He'd be LE, personality wise a lot like Dexter Morgan from the the TV show.
Crunch wise he'd be a Dwarven Inquisitor (Sin Eater, Heretic) 2/Fighter 4

Hi Fellow Inquisitors,
I see many potential interesting combinations coming up.
Just some updates that i may have missed out.
Traits: 2 Traits. 1 of which must be a religion trait.
Additional Resources
The inquisitors that join the Nightfall Scion will be ostracized by their church. They will still be followers of their chosen deity however the church will have no relations with that Inquisitor. However, the Nightfall Scion is heavily funded by these various churches whom they regard as a necessity to maintain in their fight against the taint of evil in society. Any request from society to these churches that require some form of aid in evil hunting are usually passed on to the Nightfall Scion to carry out. The following will be provided for the initiate of the Nightfall Scion.
Weapons
At the initiation ceremony, a magical craftsman assigned by the Nightfall Scion will magically imbue 1 weapon with the Bane Magical property. The initiates are required to provide their own weapons of choice with a +1 enchantment bonus. Initiate who chose this option start with 3,000 lesser gold. (Start with 13,000 GP instead of 16,000 GP)
Bane
Aura moderate conjuration; CL 8th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, summon monster I; Price +1 bonus.
DESCRIPTION
A bane weapon excels against certain foes. Against a designated foe, the weapon's enhancement bonus is +2 better than its actual bonus. It also deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against the foe.
Designated Foe
Aberrations
Animals
Constructs
Dragons
Fey
Humanoids (pick one subtype)
Magical Beasts
Monstrous Humanoids
Oozes
Outsiders (pick one subtype)
Plants
Undead
Vermin
Mounts
The church also provides a Combat-Trained Horse to each initiate. It is up to the initiate if he wishes to incorporate their fighting style with a mount or to merely use it as transport. The mounts comes with a saddle and bit and bridle. Initiate are expected to see that their mounts are armored if they wish it.(For those with Cavalier Class, as a mount is already provided, subsidy for the mount armor is provided of up to 500GP value)
For inquisitors who are small, a wolf or combat trained pony will be provided instead.

Embrianna |

Embrianna already sees herself as an outcast to her chosen religion since she is a half-orc and therefore doesn't feel that she is as physically beautiful as the rest of Shelyn's chosen clergy and devotees. So she will be ok with being officially ostracized by the church.
I think I'll take the Bane weapon option though I'm not sure just yet what foe to designate.

Thak Val Zsing |

Liking the Bane weapon, will probably use the horse just for travel; though I wonder what the penalties for mounted archery are...
Thak is already quite different in personality and style to the rest of Urgathoa's worshippers so he's fine with being an outcast- though would you approve the secret mission in my profile? Also now contains backstory.
Getting to work on character sheet.

I was planning on taking the Animal domain with my cleric (having chosen/shared the Weather domain with my inquisitor level) in order to get an animal companion mount.
In lieu of getting a mount, could I count both of my domains as based off of my cleric+inquis level?
As it stands, my Weather domain is lvl 6 (stacking with inquis), Animal domain is level 5 (not stacking, as inquis only get 1 domain).

This is a really cool idea. Is there a metaplot or is it just missions? Do you have any PBP experience?
I have as a player but this is my first time as a GM so be kind to me lol.
Yes, I am in the midst of writing a metaplot with missions between. There will be plots with certain NPC and probably I will incorporate a main villain.

Bard is considered divine. Magus wizard sorcerer are considered arcane. Yes just expect some discrimination from the Nightfall Scion. Try to avoid like a 1 inquisitors/5 wizard etc build.
That, I can see. Spells would be hard to come by for a spellbook caster, but what about a sorcerer, who gains spells naturally?
They'd face some discrimination, even hate, but could still be useful to the party, if they're discreet.

Yes if the player is fine to be discriminated. As the Nightfall Scion believes, they always choose the lesser of 2 evils. So sometimes unorthodox methods are tolerated in favor for greater good.

I've decided to go with an inquisitor 1/cleric 5 build, follower of Ketephys, pending approval (aiming for a divine bow hunter/naturalist). If not Ketephys, I'd keep the concept but go with Gozreh.
Hi DKal, yea the Deity looks fine. However as the church of Ketephys is considered minor, the future funding for initiate from the church of a minor deity might be lesser. As such probably when the funding comes in from the respective churches to the Nightfall Scion, you may get a lesser amount than one who comes form a major deity church.
