We have to understand why the aliens are here. I hope that they have a good reason for not landing right next to where we needed to go.

Vathan is a sniper and more than willing to kill from a distance. How much time to allow him a safari.

Maybe it was clear before, but it's not clear to me now that we have a time effective and productive game plan to collect food and stuff in the face of alien resistance.

Maybe as we bury our dead, we can make a better plan.

Part of it is talking, they don't have the ability to communicate except in limited fashion.

The other part of it is you guys are insanely huge. ANd your vehicle is as big as a major ship for them.

Suppressive Fire (rules addition)
Any personal weapon with a rate of fire greater than two may be used to produce covering and suppressive fire, in an attempt to get hostiles to keep their heads down. This is considered a full round action. Anything moving or taking an action that is not under 100% cover, is within a 5 block/hex (7.5 meters) arc of fire in front of the character’s weapon, and within the first range increment of the weapon using suppressive fire, may be hit.

Check only once per available target, up to a number of targets equal to one-half the normal rate of fire for the weapon. Roll to hit normally but with a -4 penalty due to the inaccuracy of this type of fire. If anything is actually hit, use Suppressive Fire Damage table. See the Damage rules (pg. 148) for more information on applying damage. Rate of Fire 10 or Greater: If the rate of fire of the weapon is 10 or greater, targets within the second range increment of the weapon, and an 8 block/hex arc (12 meters) may also be hit. Roll to hit normally but at a -8 penalty. If anything is actually hit, use Suppressive Fire Damage table below.

Anything beyond these ranges are unlikely to be hit, but if you do want to check, extend the possible area to be hit out to the range of the weapon, along a 8 block/hex wide (12 meters) path from the attacker. The to hit roll at these ranges will be at -10, and of course no more than a number of targets may be hit than have been rounds fired. This effect lasts until the character’s next round action

Edit2: Turns out I didn't check my own notes well enough. There is a difference between 3 and 4 round burst, so all my damage rolls are one category off. Lets just say Ceres used 4 round bursts all the time : )

If we're going to recruit (which I think the decision was to do so), we probably ought to start now. It'll take a couple of weeks to get a player or two all statted out. Fortunately, the fleet allows new characters to be brought in.


I'm deciding how crazy Vathan is going to react to Holt splitting the party specifically after he and the captain ordered it together. He blames her for their injuries and death. That RP post will take me some time. Also, I know it was a player mistake, so it's not personal. At one extreme, he will take her into custody for court-martial.

I'll take any suggestions.

Court martial would be rather extreme.

Plus she's his superior officer, so short of Viktoria ordering him to do so, he'd probably end up on a court martial himself for mutiny and stepping outside the chain of command.

Almost certainly the most he could do is file a very strongly worded objection, or petition the Captain to punish her.

On the other hand, the natives would almost certainly have died if she and the marines hadn't been there, they'd have been overwhelmed. So to some extent, as the mission was to aid the natives, splitting up could be argued to have been required as soon as the natives split up.

Holt did disobey orders, but the captain didn't say anything when she did, which is tacit approval. Most likely, the worst that can happen to Holt is a strongly worded reprimand and a note in her service record.

@Vathan, Cool. Thanks for the heads up about it though!

@mdt/all, This will be played out in RP, but Holt will agree to punishment, and will end up making claims that ignoring Vathan and splitting the party wasn't intentional, just not hearing him/realizing what was going on what with the aliens on a new planet. She'll readily accept that what happened was her own fault and probably describe it as negligence.

Yep, the point I was making was, a good lawyer would make mince meat of any attempt to court martial. Had Viktoria ordered her and the marines to fall in, that would be different, but she didn't.

The marines would also be under the same threat, as they followed Holt, as much against orders as she went. So punishing Holt would also require posthumously punishing the dead one, and the female marine as well. Either posthumously or actual court martial, depending on whether she survives or not.

To enhance our melee prowess I suggest we look into things such as tasers, flame-throwers and shark-knives (wasp knives).

Anyone up to brainstorm other ways of turning hostile lifeforms into slurry if they get too close : )?

You should buy anything you want that's non-standard issue (Standard issue is based on what's in the armory).

Armor is issued by the military, all standard versions.

Each person is issued a set of Mesh armor (TL7), a Vacc Suit (TL9), and a set of Armored Clothing (TL7).

Fendar is sort of a jack of all trades. He has pilot and gunnery skills to aid with the ship, supplemented with leadership, astrogation and navigation skills. He also has some knowledge of ship's weapons and propulsion.

He knows how to use LAS weapons too. Also is a forward observer if we want to call in artillery or ship's weapons as support.

So I hope to fit in somewhere. I figured a flexible PC would be better than a specific one.

I think the team would have a number of very long meetings about the implications of the information they have found out. A new colony race.
There tach and the ability to link to mind link to ships system. A ships scencoer system linked to a lining mind would make an incredible assets.

Again I thought that we weren't supposed to be military with ranks in case we find others in space, but we actually are. Vathan has been both military and non, so he doesn't care. Please advise how you imagine the PC crew structure, so I can RP accordingly.

@Vathan - Depends on what you mean by good. Holt was never really upset at Vathan, he just kind of started the chain reaction. So the two of them are fine (also, she would have shared some of her country moonshine that she stowed on board).

But Holt still feels responsible for what happened, and it's kind of weakened her already shaky confidence in her leadership abilities. Neither of those have changed.

You are and are not military. You have ranks, but they are ship ranks, not military ranks. One reason why you don't have military uniforms, just ship uniforms, like any good trade crew.

I had thought Fender was Marines for some reason, but he's Navy, so he'd be coming in as a navy person. Your new Marine (who's security) is :

Expendable is a useful quality to have on your away team, so I am not entirely opposed to having some NPC grunts along for the ride.

The only part about those portraits that worries me is the distinct lack of red. It is almost as if we can't throw them into the jaws of the first danger we meet without consequence :P

@Mylthani - Should we just grab a few and head home, to make a case infront of our leaders?

We have some time-span to look for a suitable world instead of forcing the adults to die. Perhaps we can both find a world for them and let them inhabit the colony - that would both save the now living ones and give us a suitable workforce.

My only worry is that our government might not want to give away "our" colony to the aliens.

Thoughts ?
