Cyanne nods at Gillig, grateful for the chance to rest.
"Kakao, I believe that was a 'Barkclaw.' My father met up with one in his youth and barely survived. The huntsman he was apprenticed to did not." Cyanne shudders, then turns her blue eyes back to her two companions. "Barkclaws have a thick shell, and four claws with really odd three part pincers. If they grab you... Well let's just say that it is best to not let the અશુદ્ધ* things anywhere near you.
"They'll attack and eat anything. And they have eyes and antennae that let them see and hear really well. We were lucky that you spotted it first!" She smiles at the little gnome, and then continues.
"Dad still bears the scars from where the thing ripped him open. Though... oddly enough, he was grateful to it for one thing. The encounter forced him to apprentice to a miller rather than stay a hunter. That miller was my grandfather. Grandpa took Dad in, taught him the trade, and gave Dad his blessing when he started courting Ma."
Although Gillig says it's safe, Cyanne still looks around just to make sure.

Cyanne pauses and says, "He was lucky. There's a druid enclave near Fairhill and they came upon him and the Barkclaw. They blasted it with lightning, then healed him and brought him home to Fairhill."
She smiles.
"When they came into town for supplies, Dad always gave them a couple of free flour bags, and served them personally."
At Kakao's statement about looking forward to seeing Levoca, Cyanne chimes in, "So am I! It will be good to see people, and a town again."

Montepierre stabs his spear into the spider, and hard. His spear sticks in the ground, though. Somehow the spider must have anticipated the strike! The form of the thing dissolves as a hundred spiders stream along the shaft of the weapon, crawling onto the cleric.
For his part, Mak fires an arrow wide. The spiders get a solid bash from Montepierre's shield in the process, but now they're inside his armor. He has a look of pain on his face and he yelps in pain as the spear fall from his hands.

Nearby, a pair of children stand next to their mother at the door. They look on curiously at you, but she holds them back protectively. Gillig seems not to notice as he leads you to Kaerl's place, one of the larger houses with a huge wood shed next to it. From behind the scarf that covers his mouth, one of the men wearing black holds open a scroll. His muffled voice says, "We are looking for these persons. It is urgent." The images on the scroll flicker and shift, revealing the images of a stern elf with frosty hair and a human man with hair of straw and noble features, The elf carries a bow, and the human has an ale grasped firmly in his hand.
Each of the black-clad men wears a gold token by means of insignia. It clinches their cloaks. The insignias look like coins at first glance.

"Then my companion and I will not be a burden to you. In fact, may I offer some help? I have fresh mushrooms in my bag, and..."
She hesitates a moment. Cyanne, what would your father do if there were young ones hungry and he could help?
She swallows, and says, shaking, "...a bag of oats, three quarters full. Could I offer them to supplement your meal?"

Cyanne eyes the two heavily armed men in black.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Unfortunately, the scarves covering their faces make them hard to read. Cyanne feels her old wariness return.
Are they untrustworthy? Without a doubt. They won't give their names, and when finding a village in need, they don't help. Not to mention that they are hunting for the adventurers that were helping out the villagers -- and they won't tell you why...
She smiles at the two men, and says, "Like Kakao, I would like names that we may call you. I also must have the names of the men you seek, if you know them. That's non-negotiable. I'll give you two a chance to talk it over, and decide if my terms are acceptable to you."
****
She pulls Kakao out of earshot from the men and says softly, "The white-haired elf on the scroll has the same face as the man from my dreams."
She kneels down to talk to the gnome, carefully putting things back inside her pack.
"As Ma would say, 'It's the rare hunter that intends good towards his prey.' But these hunters of men are looking for the same man I am. If I travel with them, I can find my elf and protect him. With my lady's help, I'm hoping that I can take them both out when the time comes."
They both have eyes. Colorspray should work fine.
Then, in a normal voice, she says, "You haven't known me long, Kakao. I don't know whether you want to risk traveling by my side. I'm headstrong, and I have a terrible temper. But you were the one who told me that one ignores the messages of the Gods at their own peril. My goddess is calling to me, and I must answer."
"Will you... come with me?"

I wonder if they will give me their real names. If they mean me harm, I hope it is false names and they are not well practiced with them.
Sense Motive on the two men in black as they give their names: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Once he has the two men's names, he is willing to be dragged away by Cyanne.
She pulls Kakao out of earshot from the men and says softly, "The white-haired elf on the scroll has the same face as the man from my dreams."
Kakao's eye brows go up slightly at this news. Prophetic dreams as well? This much attention from a god can be unhealthy...
She kneels down to talk to the gnome, carefully putting things back inside her pack.

I hope the two men underestimate me as much as she does.
"Will you... come with me?""
Chuckling softly, Kakao responds "It should prove interesting, but I thought it would be me requesting your company. If we are to travel light, would you mind carrying a few things for me?" as he gestures towards the pack on his mule. If she agrees, he adds a bedroll, a single days rations and a wineskin to her pack.
Less than 6 lbs. total since it is size small.
Once Cyanne's things are in order, Kakao fishes in his pocket and gets two silver pieces ready. A single silver is probably enough, but best have two ready in case.
He then approaches Alden and asks "Are there any in the village that may be willing to care for Plyto, my mule, for a short time? I would like to unburden her and leave the pack someplace safe from the weather." If Alden hesitates, Kakao opens his palm to show the two silver pieces.
If we are given a location to stable the mule.
Kakao goes over and grabs the mule's reins, then looks towards Cyanne and gestures her to follow. He leads the mule to the indicated location and then turns to Cyanne. With a big grin, he requests "This would go much faster if you could help me unload. The cask is rather heavy, so be careful with it."
She is always having me fetch things for her. Only fair I have her take care of the heaviest item for me.
Assuming the two men gave us names and we can get the mule and pack settled, I'm willing to go with the two men.

"We're both of one mind, then. Thanks for joining me. You're good to talk to. I suspect that 'Doom' and 'Gloom' in the black clothing are not." She smiles. "I'll gladly help you lighten your load. Dad always said I was strong. It came from hefting 50 pound sacks of flour in the mill."
"This would go much faster if you could help me unload. The cask is rather heavy, so be careful with it."
Relieved that unloading did not mean retrieving anything from any bags or boxes, she nods, and hoists the heavy keg to wherever Kakao wants it to go. It did take her a couple tries to undo the straps, but her ghosts did not have as much room for making her life difficult with this.
After she puts the keg down, but before they return to the men in black, she says, "Kakao?"
She nervously picks up a handful of pebbles. Should I show him this?
You'll have to someday. The earlier you do it, the better. He should know.
"Thanks... for helping me with the pack. Earlier, I mean. I should explain... why."
She takes a deep breath. "A certain death goddess -- best not to name her aloud -- has cursed me with my own personal pack of ghosts. They mess with my stuff, trip me at inopportune times, scatter whatever I drop in all directions. She doesn't want My Lady to return, you see."
She sighs and says, "Best to just show you, then."
She drops the handful of pebbles, which shoot outwards ten feet in every direction. Some of them bounce off trees, and the walls of the stable.
"My curse isn't catching; it only affects me. But yeah, it's annoying."

Back to the first man, "We will leave now. You should come with us if you are as curious as you seem." He points to the donkey behind Kakao and the cask of wine, "But those stay."

The two village men nod seemingly in acceptance.

"Blame me, not Kakao. And I do plan on asking them myself." Since you two are so helpful and informative.

Montepierre and Mak get ready to follow Morti unless prompted otherwise.
You follow.
They walk off into the forest a ways before signalling a halt about a mile from the village. The man without the backpack motions for you both to stay absolutely silent. Then he pulls down his face scarf.
Beneath the scarf he reveals what must be evidence of either torture or the most hackjob shaving you have ever seen. At least a half dozen scars surround his mouth. They look like they were caused by blades. He reemphasizes the importance of "quiet, please" mouthing the words with a stern look on his face. His cold eyes seem to be trying to read if you can be trusted.
Meanwhile, the man with the backpack loosens the cord cinching the top closed. From within, something seems to slither up into the air and begins to uncoil itself.
Bright and shimmering, whatever it is, it has bright blues and vibrant reds traced upon its skin in a kind of intentioned pattern. You wait a moment, perplexed, and then it becomes apparent when you see tassles along the edges.
You both watch on as a flying carpet emerges from the man's backpack.
It then arrives at a careful hover three feet off the ground. The man with blue eyes steps onto the carpet, and seats himself at the one end, looking-forwards in a cross-legged position. His cohort motions for you to follow. "Quietly" he signals.

The small gnome nods in acknowledgement.
Kakao's eyes go wide in surprise as he sees the carpet emerge. If they wanted me to come along, all they would have had to do is tell me about this! He carefully approaches the carpet and and gently tugs on a corner, as if to check that it is really there.
It then arrives at a careful hover three feet off the ground. The man with blue eyes steps onto the carpet, and seats himself at the one end, looking-forwards in a cross-legged position. His cohort motions for you to follow. "Quietly" he signals.
Kakao accepts Cyanne's offered hand as he climbs up, then promptly crawls over to the other side and sits near the edge so he will have a good view as they travel. He is grinning ear to ear. I don't think anyone back home is going to believe this!

If Karl looks pale, then Monti looks like a corpse. He took three strength damage from the stuff, FYI!
Okrin Caramir and Mikka believe they may have heard an odd bird call up above. Strange, as it has been quiet until now.
”Good, we can talk now.” The front man says, gruffly. He cracks his neck, and you can hear a series of popping noises ascend up his spine.
”Ready back here." the man at the back says.
Each of the two men reposition their scarves over their faces, masking their mouths. The man at the front produces a pair of goggles from his pocket and dons them over his blue eyes. As he does so, he says,
”Now, if we weren’t in a hurry, we might consider everything you were asking us. It seems you have a good soul. You poor dear. Margreve will rid you of that soon enough if you are not careful. Don’t stand up. STAY SEATED. Hang onto one another if you must, but please do not distract me.” He says in rapid-fire common. Then he looks back over his shoulder at the green-eyed man. ”What do you say? Three points to larboard?” The man shrugs.
”Aye.” The man at the back voices with a nod.
The word leaves his companion’s mouth, and the man with goggles-on quickly turns back to face forward.
The blasted thing steals away so fast, you feel the air ripped from your chests. For fear of passing out along the way, you find that you have to breath through your noses. The canopy blurs a hundred feet underneath as you shake and rattle along. The whole carpet is shaken with vibrations and you fear for your lives. The trees become a blurry green sea of leafy waves as the winds’ ways work to dry your eyes. It is almost as if you will be left behind the thing at any moment, left to follow the will of the earth and plummet, and yet, somehow, your bodies cling on. It is enough to challenge even Kakao’s hardy constitution, this. No roll necessary.
Off to the left you can see a lone pillar of smoke through the trees as you snap past it. A few minutes later, you hear the man in the back call ”WHOA-A”
The carpet comes to a stop slowly. Much more carefully than it took off, in fact. As your eyes remoisturize, you can see that the man at the back, the one with green eyes from earlier, he is holding a round brown stone.
”They’re near. He says. Green-eyes takes a moment of frowning concentration.
Then he points to a tree below. ”There.”
The pilot at front removes his goggles, takes the canopy of green in at a glance, and then the carpet begins to descend.
The party is worried about their poisoned teammates. Many a sour face of concern is shared, when From Above comes the sound of voices as a bright blue and red patterned rectangle descends beneath the canopy carefully. Some of you ready weapons, squinting upwards, unsure of what to expect.
It appears to be a … carpet? Only when it descends lower do you mark the persons sitting upon it. A pair of heavily armed men in unseasonably warm clothing, a woman with brilliant blue hair blown-every-which-way, and a small gnome who looks like he is about to throw a party. He may just be terribly excited to still be alive!
At least one of the men at the front of the carpet seems to recognize your group.
”Oi Caramir, is that you mate?” he calls.
A flying carpet.
Even as a trusted scout, Caramir has probably never heard of the Devils' mercenary group ever using one, but now that you think of it, it explains a LOAD. Begins to make sense how Dennin is able to get the jump of his opponents so frequently and precisely! Heavens. What you know is up to your discretion. Feel free to help me flesh out Victor and his pal, here.
| Cyanne Miller |
Cyanne turns to the Men in Black, exhilaration on her face, and a thrill coursing rapid fire through her blood. The fear that she had felt faded, replaced by a glorious rush. She takes a deep breath of sweet air, and lets out a small whoop. "That.... was wonderful! Thank you. I will remember this trip all my life."
She offers a hand to assist Kakao down, making sure the gnome is steady on his feet. "Are you alright, my friend?"
"Oi, Caramir, is that you mate?"
His name... is Caramir! Cyanne sounds the syllables in her head, pleased to finally have a name to put to the face she's seen in her dreams.
Cyanne feels foolish about her suspicions of the Men in Black after seeing them greet Caramir as a comrade. Perhaps I do not need to protect him after all, if he has allies like these.
She is still unsure of what they want, or why they brought her to her longed for meeting. Perhaps in the long run, this does not matter. Kel had brought Cyanne for a few glorious minutes into the realm of intoxicating sky, and helped her find her way here to this man. But now that the meeting has arrived, she suddenly feels shy. He has lived so many years, seen so much. Would he even want to talk to a small town miller's daughter?
What can I say to him? Hello, you don't know me, but I've been dreaming of your face for months? Come help me restore my goddess from the land of the dead to the land of the living?
When the elf turns to face her, she finally says simply, "શુભેચ્છા સંદેશ, મારું નામ બ્લ્યુ છે.'
Elvish: "Greetings, my name is Cyanne (literally: Blue)."
And then Cyanne suddenly registers the hurt men laying behind Caramir. "Oh, there are people hurt! What can we do to help?"
She kneels in the dirt by Monti and Karl, checking them to see if there is anything she can do.

Morti glances around, somewhat nonplussed by the carpetful of new arrivals.
I...Hmmm. I...s'pose of all the odd things we've met out here, these are th' first to not attack us on sight, so tha's a positive sign. And they seem t' know Caramir?
The dwarf stands quietly, hammer resting on his shoulder, giving the foursome a once over to assess any apparent weapons or fighting abilities before looking to see how Caramir reacts.

Grinning ear to ear, the small gnome waits until the carpet gets close to the ground before disembarking.
"Are you alright, my friend?"
Accepting the offered hand down, he says "I think I might have swallowed a bug during the ride, but other than that I'm great!" He steps to the side so as to not be between the two men on the carpet and the rest of the group. He then turns his head and spits into the bushes -- away from all the gathered people -- before turning back to look the crowd over.
The smiling gnome has a bushy red beard and somewhat wild red hair. He is wearing studded leather armor, a loose cassock, and has a clearly visible wooden holy symbol hanging from his neck of a stylized flagon. He is carrying a club that is rather large for him, given he is less than four foot tall. Other weapons clearly visible include a small sling and a small dagger.
Looking towards your group, he calls out "Greetings, friends! I'm Kakao, a traveling priest of Bacchus! Who are all of you?"
Oh! I'm looking forward to Morti's threat assessment of Kakao.
