Just to be clear... Is the additional attribute icnrease we get from houserules considered a Enhancement bonus?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

No, it's an Inherent bonus (to do otherwise would make the Metamorphosis powers largely worthless).

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I see... I wasn't sure because you said it'd use One Step Beyond progression, and in that game, they are enhancement bonuses (though they aren't removed, suppressed or denied in anyway by any effect). They are only considered enhancement bonus to avoid unforeseen bonus stacking.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Ah, gotcha.

Yeah, the Metamorphosis powers grant Enhancement bonuses to stats, and you HAVE to pick one.

Though, on second thought, the easier solution is just to houserule those to be Size bonuses, like the Polymorph spells. So yeah, Enhancement on the scaling bonuses.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I don't mind that... But isn't the whole reason those things use Enhancement bonuses precisely so that they don't stack with the belts and headbands that the houserule is meant to replace?

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

Oh, yeah... One more thing: Are we getting the bonus to weak saves that makes them go from +1 to +9 instead of from +0 to +6??

I've always thought that was dumb, because the Powers actually FORCE you to choose those stat increase options (since you need one option from every column, essentially).

It makes the stat increases worthless, and since the Metamorphosis Powers are really only usable by Psions and Metamorphs (1/2 BaB and effective 3/4 BaB respectively) I don't see it as an issue.

Yes. All the stuff listed in the OSB rules.

Yes. All the stuff listed in the OSB rules.

I see...

*quick edit*

Ah, here it says Psychic Warriors get double the bonuses... I Uh... Had forgotten about that... Err... Totally real part of OSB progression rules...

So... I'm designing a homebrew archetype that gets faster/stronger as he fights. The idea is that it gains points in some resource pool every time it hits an opponent or suffers damage... This resource would give it a few passive abilities and could be spent to cause/improve some effects.

How would you call this resource? Adrenaline? Steam? Spirit? Fury?

I'm leaning towards "Spirit", but I'd like to hear your opinions.

Also, I'd love to hear any ideas for possible benefits and uses of this resource.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

I actually like Steam quite a bit. Building up Steam, and letting off Steam.

Silver Crusade

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

How about Oomph?

Half-Orc Zweihander Sentinel 8; Hp: 95/105; AC 27 (FF 25, touch, 13), Saves +14, +8, +11; Init +1, Perc +6

ok, who wants to do a (not too long that it gets boring but not to short that is not informative) summary of the 67 new post I have not read?

Uh... We got a new vehicle that walks on 6 legs. Chirrup (Dorla's construct familiar) is being remotely pulled somewhere by his old master. So we got into the new vehicle (brilliantly baptized "Crippled Spider") and went looking for Chirrup's old master.

The end.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Pretty much. There was a lot of meandering about, figuring out what everyone wanted to do, and Dorla had the most interesting suggestion.

Glad you're back, Ugash.

Would you allow me to give Donovan the Pathwalker archetype?

I'd like to keep the Mindknight's path abilities instead of taking one of the archetype's paths. Mostly because I like the "sword-summoning aspect of the character (and without it, his name doesn't make sense! :P).

Also, is Thrashing Dragon a good discipline for non-TWFers?

Finally, is there any way to get the Veiled Moon discipline? It's just so much fun!

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Sure, and sure (but you need to trade out one of the existing ones, just as if you took up a Martial Tradition).

Thrashing Dragon is incapable of being used, pretty much, unless you're TWFing. Most of them (or even ALL of them)have a clause of "When wielding two weapons" or "Make an attack with both of your wepaons" as part of the language.

Male Human Dungeon Master 10/ Munchkin 10

The other disciplines aren't very fun or thematically fitting for Donovan, though... Solar Wind is the one for ranged combat, right?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Yes.

Scarlet Throne is the "One-handed with no shield" style.

Golden Lion make shim a battle leader, mildly Bard-like.

Iron Tortoise is EXCELLENT if you so much as pick up a Buckler.

Male Human Dungeon Master 10/ Munchkin 10

I was thinking of going with Veiled Moon and Scarlet Throne... Since Donovan fights one-handed anyway.

Sorry I've been posting a little less. I got a new video game that's really sucking me in whenever I have time. (Pillars of Eternity)

Male Goblin Vivisectionist Trap Breaker 10

Ooo one of my friends said that was good.

So far its really good. It reminds me a LOT of Baldur's Gate, but with much better graphics. On sale for half off right now at GOG.com, so I couldn't resist. Last spring I bought a new computer actually capable of running relatively new games, but this is the first game that's not several years old I've bought in a long time. Didn't game much while my kids were really small, but now they're both old enough I can go hide with a game for an hour or so.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

It's cool. Gives me some Fallout 4 time. =)

How is Fallout 4? I'm pretty sure it would be at the top of my husband's Christmas list if it weren't steam only on the PC, considering how much he played the old games.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

It's good. Not as good as New Vegas in many ways, but leaps and bounds better than Fallout 3.

The gameplay is greatly improved, the RP aspects are...not. The Dialogue wheel is terrible because the options are so vague compared to having the options completely written out. You don't ever know what you're actually going to say, which makes you feel very disconnected.

Notable example: I was talking to a guy about baseball, and apparently over the years people have begun to believe baseball was a game where you beat people to death with baseball bats ("Swatters") and took a ball from them.

The dialogue wheel says "That's not right".

What my character actually says: "That's not how you play baseball, dumbass."

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

Hmmm... I lose a feat with the Pathwalker archetype... And the BAB replacement thing... I guess I'll drop Improved Critical, then. C'est la vie...

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I can keep one stance active at all times, right? I'm not sure if that's the general rule or something specific to the Stalker I played or one of his stances (I made that character with help of a friend).

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Yeah, Stances last until you swap them.

I like Stance of the Ether Gate as a traveling stance.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I don't have that one... I have Formless Dance and Spirit Sensing Dance, which is active. And gives me Scent... For some reason.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

It gives you Scent, which can be used to smell Incorporeal creatures and things on the Ethereal within 30 feet (hence "Spirit Sensing").

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

It sounds like it can work like normal Scent too.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

It can.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

BTW, I have 6 bottles of "high quality wine" written down in my sheet. Each one costs 10gp, but I have no idea where I could find "high quality wine" in this setting... Who makes it? Halflings? Humans? Elves? Someone else?

It wasn't the most expensive stuff (there was soem wine that was worth 200gp or something), but it was good. So... There is that.

Male Goblin Vivisectionist Trap Breaker 10

I always assumed after a certain point it goes up in value due to it's age. So older wine is better wine regardless of who makes it.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11
Scavion wrote:

I'd say both factor in for the quality and price... Say, a 16 years old good wine is better than a 16 yo mediocre wine, but both of them are better than they were 10 years ago.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Depends on the kind of wine. Humans and Dwarves are more into ale and hard liquor.

Elves corner the market in aged wine, for obvious reasons, and their vineyards are known to be some of the best in the world. Elven wine (no different name, everyone knows what you're talking about) is exorbitantly expensive.

For more of the common man with a decent taste, the halfling Burrfoot family makes a excellent Sauvignons, both Blanc and Cabernet (which they give a taste of to anyone who eats at one of their fine restaurants), and a small Gnomish vineyard (Terse Vines) makes a nice Pinot Noir.

RE: Wine ages, I believe that depends on the quality to begin with. Cheap wines just turn into vinegar after a while.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I think literally every wine turns into vinegar after a while... All that changes is how long that "while" is.

Some wines are not supposed to be aged. IIRC, white wine in general isn't supposed to stay bottled too long. Though this is just a guess based on a few comments and conversations with friends and family... I might not be remembering correctly.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

I was thinking of getting some sort of chip implant that works like Headband of Vast Intelligence, except it is technological, not magical, and doesn't raise the Int score.

I don't know how I'd price it, though... Maybe the same price progression of magic weapons? Like... 2000gp for +1 skill point per level, 8000 for +2, and so on.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

I think there's something like that in the Thunderscape book. It would be very helpful for me if you guys would look these things up though, because navigating that PDF trying to find everything for everyone is a pain in the ass. I gave you all copies for that reason.

If not, the technology guide does have "Skillchips".

It requires a skillslot implanted in your brain (2000 gp to function), and then various skillchips can be implanted granting up to a +2 (400 gp) to +10 (10000 gp) Enhancement bonus to that skill.

Working on that same principle, let's say the Skillslot is still required, and you can get an upgraded skillchip for a hiked price. We can either price them per rank, or per enhancement, your choice.

In the former case, I'd probably skew a little cheaper, letting you get them incrementally.

It'd probably be easier to go with half the price of a headband, though, which follows the progression you said.

Half-Orc Zweihander Sentinel 8; Hp: 95/105; AC 27 (FF 25, touch, 13), Saves +14, +8, +11; Init +1, Perc +6

I think the technology guide have stat boosters.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

Yeah, but I don't want to boost my attributes... And isn't not using attribute boosters the whole point of having automatic progression?

Half-Orc Zweihander Sentinel 8; Hp: 95/105; AC 27 (FF 25, touch, 13), Saves +14, +8, +11; Init +1, Perc +6

Nevermind, I misread.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

BTW, Dorla... You might want to consider preparing potions of Delay Poison. That basically makes you immune to poison for 8h. Then we buy a few potions of Neutralize Poison and use them on anyone who was poisoned.

Actually, I think I'll buy some potions myself... Let's see what's available...

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

BTW, Rynjin... Here is how I'm spending some of my gold and retconning it into being bought before the campaign started, as it makes more sense to Donovan's background story...

Chip slot (2000 gp)
Skill point chip (+2 sp/level) (8000 gp)
Skillchip Mark I (x5) (2000 gp)

The idea is that whatever chip was last implanted into Donovan's brain acts as some sort of mentor/tutorial program.

I'm also looking for potions. I assume only those in the Alchemist's spell list are available.

Also, is there something akin to pages of spell knowledge for psionics?

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

So... Uh... I suddenly have four extra Languages known... What languages are likely to be useful in this setting again?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Yes, only Alchemist Potions are available.

Not sure on the Psionic PoSK. I'll look into it.

Male Ellan Psychic Warrior 9 - 93/93 HP AC 31 (tch 18; ff 25); CMD 27 (+4 vs Disarm/Dirty Trick); Fort +13, Ref +14, Will +13; Low-light Vision/Darkvision; Perception+ 17; Sense Motive +17; Initiative +11

Oh, gods... 1050gp?! Potions are expensive! oO

Can Dorla brew these potions as potions rather than "spell slots" and we chip in to pay for the crafting cost?

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Potions don't take long for her to brew.

Can Dorla brew a potion that is above the level of her slots, though? Slow poison is easy, it's in her formula book, but Neutralize Poison is level 4, and Dorla only has level 3 slots so far.
