Ok first question I thought a crit only doubles the dice roll not the bonus. second, Astrid? damage +16? is that right? also I am still pretty new to 5e so these question also help me understand the system better. I usually read people character sheets to nswer my questions, but lately I noticed many people don't detail stuff much on their public sheets.

Liam Kali |

thanks, that is pretty cool, but Liam is still the greatest swordsman :-P

GM Helaman |

Will bot Liam here
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
And Shield bash to smash the guard in the face.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 for 1d4 ⇒ 1 damage.
No need for Liam to use advantage here :)
Liam cuts the throat of the man who was just a moment ago slashing at his legs.
Astrid spills the entrails (and opens the chest cavity) of one of her opponents.
Aukan throws one of his attackers to the ground
Karl struggles mightly but his opponents defense is solid.
1. Killed
2. Died horribly
3. Attacks Astrid w. Advantage 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 or 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
4. Attacks Karl 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
5. Attacks Aukan Gets up and takes up his weapon. Singed by Magnus' firebolt.
6. Attacks Aukan 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
7. Attacks Aukan 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
8. Attacks Astrid w. Advantage 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 or 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Right now she's a bloody force of nature

dang, thanks GM, tried to post earlier, but I seem to be having computer issues, it took me almost an hour to get the dumb thing to boot up. was about to give up when it suddenly loaded windows.

Astrid Truestone |

Astrid should not even be standing. Her multiple wounds drippling with blood, her brown locks hanging over her eyes, her massive sword covered in blood and guts, and now a low growl emanating from her mouth, Astrid looks like something out of a nightmare.
And maybe she is, to the poor guards.
Again, she swings her sword in a wide arc...
Reckless Grand Slam: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Reckless Grand Slam: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 2) + 16 = 24
Reckless Grand Slam: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Reckless Grand Slam: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 5) + 16 = 23

ok I am curious, in my table top game, anyone adjacent to the barbarian get advantage on their attacks...or something like that....is that the same here?
acrobatics for effect: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Liam finishes off the one near him with nearly practiced ease and as he glances toward Astrid, he notices her covered in blood, some might even be hers.
Liam leaps off the tables to get at a guard attempting to flank her...I know there is no flanking in 5e its more for storytelling here
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
attack if he gets advantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
sword damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
shield bash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
shield bash advantage?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
shield bash damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
As Liam leaps from the table he attempts to somersault right up to the bad guy with a dramatic flourish of his blade, however, he failed to count on the cluttered floor and his foot catches a mug lying on the floor.
He sort of looses his balance and stumbles closer to the enemy. but jut as he is about to recover his other foot slips on some entrails left in Astrid's battle wake. this sends him head first right toward his intended target sword out stretched which happens to impale him in the thigh.
still uneasy about his footing Liam slips back yanking the blade from his leg but also his shield arm flies up smacking the guard in the face.
acrobatics to recover: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Liam manges to do a single back-flip and land on his feet, the look on his face...."yeah just as I planned"

Liam Kali |

I wish there was a decent SRD for 5th edition it would be so helpful
Also to late to edit my post, guess just go with the first roll as applicable
EDIT: found it: Wolf totem Spirit: Wolf. While you're raging, your friends have advantage on melee attack rolls against any creature within 5 feet of you that is hostile to you. The spirit of the wolf makes you a leader of hunters. So Astrid is not a wolf...she may be a "fox" but not a wolf...(in combat at least)

GM Helaman |

Round 3 - Magnus being botted
Attack with Fire Bolt 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 for 1d10 ⇒ 1 Crappy luck there on both rolls
Astrid somewhat predictably slaughters yet another guard, Aukan misses, Liam in an absolutely masterful display of combat mastery, stabs his foe with his sword before knocking the man to the ground with a cruel shield bash! His flip is nothing short of awe-inspiring
Being now four men from a guard originally of twelve, being faced by a butching lunatic with a blade, a laughing giant and a magnificent swordsman, the men fall to their knees and beg to surrender.

Aukan Knows-No-Fear |

Aukan recognizes that the men have surrendered....yet in his rage he almost still slays them. Aukan charges at the men and stops just short...
You are wise to surrender. The Battle Spirit is strong with us. he begins panting again, the exertion of combat now taking its toll on the big half ogre.

Magnus Corvus |

Ok, again my post was deleted...this place is getting worse! I posted just after Aukan and just before Liam...it was there!! Now it is gone...this site is really needing an overhaul!
Gritting his teeth in frustration, Magnus moves over to the bodies of the dead guards and searches them.

Karl Gufstass |

Hold still, Astrid. Everyone gather around.
When all are within 30 feet, Karl raises both hands to the heavens and channels divine healing energy that bursts forth from his body in a blue light.
I can distribute 5×level (3)=15 HP in any manner I wish. I am thinking that Astrid may need it all, but one PC can only receive half its max HP.So, Astrid gets enough of the totalbto bring her to 16HP...Is anyone else down because that leaves 8 HP worth of healing to spread around.

Karl Gufstass |

@GM Helamann: The wording on the ability is strange. Does this mean that Aukan can or cannot be healed for 5 HP because he was not below half? The wording for the ability can be found in the Channel portion of my profile.

This feature can restore a creature to no more than one half of its maximum HPs
As I read it if they are not under half hitpoints then it doesn't work. I am happy for you to cast a spell instead of channel if you wish to retcon
Edit: I've already house ruled a bunch of things - I am pro player AND its Christmas. House Rule declared: You can break up your healing channel divinity ANY way you want regardless of target hitpoints

GM Helaman |

Astrid lets the rage fade from her eyes, and then looks around. "We're not getting paid enough for this," Astrid mutters before turning to the guards.
"Tell us about Xanathon. Now," Astrid says calmly, still looking like something out of a nightmare.
We do not pass beyond the sanctum here - he dwells within but Cretia willing, he will crush your bones and eat your hearts!, one of the guards answers defiantly.

Liam Kali |

Liam tries to stop Aukan wait, That's not a very honorable fight. I don't really care for these guys, but still, to kill him like this, well it just doesn't seem right.
Aukan could easily bypass Liam and still knock him out. but Liam probably thinks he wants to kill him.
as for where to go next...
A quick survey of the situation, there is one door nearby. perhaps see where that leads. but based on what we know already, it may lead outside.
I think there may have been another hallway back that way. he says indicating the way they came.

GM Helaman |

Apologies all - up and going again
You peer down to what must be the central corridor of the temple. To the left of you and the right of you at the top of the corridor are two doors.
The one to the left of you is lit by two torches on the outside.
Peering down past this the corridor dark with no torches being left in sconces unlike that of the forward temple area you were in earlier.

Karl Gufstass |

No need for that torch, friend.
Karls murmurs a quick prayer and light bursts forth from his shield.
I will join you near the front, Aukan.

Liam Kali |

Well now not everyone can be in the front, so Liam falls in behind Astrid.
Liam looks at the door with the lit torches. wanna try here? is seems to be well marked indicating the torches.
Liam does a quick listen to try and hear anything on the other side.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
dang it now I got that dang song stuck in my head....Hello?

GM Helaman |

Sorry for the delays, both this one and the ones likely in the immediete future. I'm going through some s#+$
The room lit outside by torches opens into a chapel, a smaller one and made of better materials and includes cushions for seating. The room is lit by many candles. Two priests are in the process of making their way to the doors when you enter.
Who are you unbelievers and how did you get in here?
