They operate north of the city, but not in any one particular area.
Vaunu Tarkkailija
sorry guys, third time I posted this the internet is spotty at work tonight
Vaunu gives the captain a tusky grin, ”Thank you for your time good captain, could you point us in the direction of the bazaar so we may check job postings there,” as he turned to leave Vaunu turns and lifts his hand ”Also, could you recommend a place to rent a wagon?”
As they leave Vaunu asks the team, ”Shall we check the Bazaar for posted jobs as well.” Continuing as they go ”I asked the good captain about a wagon rental because I thought that we may be able to draw out the thieves by posing as travelers, we could let Rhîan-nôn and Fibek sit up front and the rest of us could hide in the back”,

The bazaar is on your vistor's map. Jerneth’s Wheeled Transport is on the east side by the wharehouses, also on your map.

Just about anything and everything is for sale in Endhome’s Bazaar. Crowding the bazaar’s center are dozens of small merchants, peddlers, and farmers selling their wares from push carts and collapsible stands. Every day these smalltime dealers arrive early in the morning and hawk all day until sunset whereupon they are instructed to fold up shop and move along. Surrounding the open-air portion of the bazaar are tiny shops selling anything from trinkets to topcoats, from lampshades to longswords. Pawns shops abound in and around the bazaar; an adventurer wishing to cash in some hard-won baubles would have no trouble doing so here. There is a posting for people to enter the sewers to clear out a rat problem. 500 GP is offered.
Vaunu Tarkkailija
'What a nice place for trade and business I'll wager some of these merchants will be leaving soon and need guards. So where is that posting board' keeping an eye out for trouble specifically pickpockets Vaunu eventually finds the board and reads about the rat problem. "500 gold pieces for rats, I wonder how many we would have to kill to kill to collect that bounty? Does anyone see someone to talk to about the sewer work, or shall we start making plans to catch the bandits?"

The contact information is for one Kilgore Spink and a location is noted.
Tork the wanderer
"I like your idea with the wagon. Let's go rent one and see if we can lure the bandits in. May be easier having them come to us rather than searching all over. An undefended wagon with only 2 visible attendants should be a juicy meal that the greedy hyenas won't be able to resist"
Vaunu Tarkkailija
Vaunu nods his head 'need to remember to come back here when we need gear' following the map he leads the team to Jerneth’s Wheeled Transport on the east side of town. When they arrive Vaunu inquires "We would like to rent a covered wagon and horses for a period of time, probably a week," considering himself an expert on wagons "May we see what you have available?"
Baalîantar
Baalîantar will ask around in the bazaar to see if he can find any information on these Green Tree bandits.
know (local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
He will ask people something like: "Me and my friends need to travel north for a short spell with some goods. Can you tell us of any bandits to be wary of around there?"
My CUNNING PLAN is to find out some more about the bandits. And even if that does not work, I figure it will make it easier for us to find them if they are alerted by someone in town that potential victims are en route later.
To try to hide the fact we actually want to find them, not avoid them:

He will rent you an old wagon and a pair of mules for 5 gp for a week. He will state that there are always bandits that one has to be concerned about, especially in the Sundered Kingdoms.
Tork the wanderer
"If we had lots of cash to spare we might add wares to the outside. But I'm tight on cash and I suspect others may be as well. I think an unguarded wagon will be enticement enough to bring out the hyenas looking for weak prey"
Vaunu Tarkkailija
I was assuming we rented a covered wagon, caravan wagon or box wagon, any of these we could hide in and hang a few "Sale Items" on the outside. Even if it's our packs, torches etc. or we purchase some used 'tinker' junk pots, pans, washtubs, Vaunu has 20 gp or so we could spend.
Vaunu smiles, "I have a few coins we could spend on 'tinker wares', and we could hang out packs and content on the outside to look like they are for sale." He walked over to the wagon, "HAng the empty packs there, and put the torches on that barrel there, pile the food in that box there, hang the cast iron pots over there and were halfway done looking like a tinkers wagon without purchasing anything." then smiling his tusky smile at Baalîantar, "but of course the axes stay inside with us." nodding to Rhîan-nôn "if you ride in the front with a hidden crossbow and Fibek drives, the rest of us can hide in the back."
brvheart
So you ride north in the wagon out the north gate. Hope everyone has water and rations. Four can ride in the back.
Vaunu Tarkkailija
three half-orcs and a dwarf, that's almost four, does Tarkus need a safety seat? As for food and water: four of us have five days rations and a waterskin, one two days rations and a waterskin, one nada. Do we want to stop for food and water?
Vauna, sitting comfortably in the back with the other team members, asks "We have rented the wagon for a week, Before we leave town does anyone need food or water for that long?"
Tork the wanderer
the one w/o water skin and rations is probably Tork. Oversight on my part as he doesn't really use equipment. I'll get off my butt and add the basics(waterskin, rations, backpack, utility dagger etc) to his profile now. Please consider him equiped and ready to go
brvheart
You travel about 10 miles up the Traders Way north and it is time to find a place to camp. Besides passing a caravan heading south, the trip is uneventful. Need to set watches.
Vaunu Tarkkailija
Vaunu eager to try the meal that Rhîan-nôn had put together in the castiron pot, Saying a blessing over it he bod himself a large serving, chewing slowly, 'Not the worst I have eaten' he goes back for seconds.
As he helped clean up after dinner he volunteered, "I am used to guarding at night, I shall take the middle watch, who will watch with Me?"
Tarkus Shieldsplitter
[ooc: Tarkus will boost up his rations as well before leaving town. no need for a booster seat either. :)[/ooc]
"These eyes of mine work best when there is the least light, so I will take the mid watch with you. Just give me a shake when it is my turn and I'll be ready."
Trying to make himself as comfortable as he can in the back of the wagon, Tarkus' snores are soon heard coming from its depths.
Vaunu Tarkkailija
Vaunu nods his head, "When it is time Fibek I will let you know." Turning to Rhîan-nôn he asks her, "Rhîan-nôn would you please wake me at the beginning of the second watch? It would be greatly appreciated, I will be sleeping under the wagon." then addressing the other two orcs, "You gentleman figure out who is going first and who is going last, I am going to bed!" He then gathers his bedroll from its display on the side of the wagon and crawling under the wagon he quickly goes to sleep, snoring like a ... well, like a sleeping orc, or at least like a sleeping half-orc.

"I can take the last watch "

edit :letting the spellcaster take the last watch. Doesn't matter for Tork.

You are an arcane caster so you need to be on 1st or 3rd Baalîantar so 1st I guess. That leaves
1st Baalîantar and Rhîan-nôn
2nd Vaunu and Tarkus
3rd Fibek and Tork
brvheart
On second watch you spot campfires off in the distance to the northwest.
Tarkus Shieldsplitter
"I do not want to awaken them for something that could be simple travelers, but I am also leery of blindly going into an ambush."
Tarkus mulled the decision over again and finally spoke.
"I can approach the camp and scout and return back quickly to tell you. If I am not back in a reasonable time, say twenty minutes, then come after me as I will either be dead or up to my neck in trouble. Does that sound agreeable?"
brvheart
You go 20 minutes out and do not seem to be making much progress towards the campfires. Things on the plain seem a lot closer than they actually are.
Tarkus Shieldsplitter
This is what happens when I post without looking at a map to judge distances.
Coming back into the camp, Tarkus frowns as he glanced back towards the distant burning campfires.
"It would seem that my perception at night is not what it should be on the plains. I still think the best course of action is to let the others sleep and discuss the findings in the morning. If I was having an issue getting to them, they would have the same of stumbling upon our camp in the dark."
Vaunu Tarkkailija
'well we have at least learned that our dwarven friend Tarkus is very brave and willing to literally go the extra mile.' Vaunu, nodded in agreement with Tarkus, "I believe you are right, Tarkus, shall we wake our replacements and inform them and get some sleep?"
rousing Fibek and Tork, Vaunu points out the fire off in the, much further than realized, distance and returning to underneath the wagon, goes to sleep.
Tarkus Shieldsplitter
Feeling disappointed in himself, his dwarven pride being bruised was a terrible thing to live with, Tarkus nodded his head in agreement and slid off the chain shirt and rolled it up to place beside his pack once more.
"Aye, here is to another day and another chance."
brvheart
You wake in the morning, last watch has just ended and you set about fixing breakfast. The smell of food cooking has attracted the company of a few dire rats. Roll initiative
initiative Dire Rats: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Roll20 map is up!
Tarkus Shieldsplitter
Stretching the knots out of his back and donning his armor once more for the day ahead, Tarkus hopped off the wagon and approached his companions.
"Top of the morn..."
His words caught in his throat as a group of rats the size of hounds came out of the thick grass.
"To arms!"
Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
It seems that what Tarkus will be doing is fumbling to free his axe with his nat 1 for attack. :)
