The bodies there sooner or later are reanimated as some kind of undead, and sometime adventurers go crazy saying the forest is telling them stories. When the undead population is growing Aldwall pays for every undead destroyed, standard stuff.
"I don't trust most self proclaimed 'adventurers' either. Too many of them die just trying to kill a few of the minor undead in the area."
"And they're cocky sons of b~+&+es too."
"It shouldn't be anything I can't handle. If someone shows up, I'll take them along, but unless something really nasty's moved into the Tangleweb, it should be fine."
"I'll report back soon." Sven says, turns on his heel, and heads off towards the forest.

Desmond is out of his seat before his eyes have finished reading the words "Reward: 200 gold pieces".
"Worry not, Liro! I'll have those poor foolhardy souls back before you know it!"
He grabs his gear and makes a beeline towards the forest.

Fiiiiiiiiine.
Desmond is halfway out the door when Liro's words fully register in his brain.
"So, uh...what advice would you have given them? Besides 'don't go in the Tangleweb Forest', I mean."
Well, lets see, some antitoxins, vermin repellent, spider poison antidote, and some form of light, you definitely want light...and if you are planning to catch the rainbow spider yourself then you could use something to lure them

How much does spider venom antidote cost? (can't find it on the SRD)

"Oh, I'm sure those poisonous spiders are great company if you sit and talk with them for a while. And I love making new friends.

"Aw, relax. I'm fully aware of the dangers of the Tangleweb, but that doesn't mean I have to be all doom-and-gloom about it!"
"Anyway, if you're heading in there too, why don't we stick together? We can squash twice as many spiders that way!"
"Much as I hate to admit it, I'd appreciate the help. I'm looking for a man named Cole, one of the other rangers. He went missing along with the 'adventurers'. He was an idiot, but competent enough. If he's been captured or killed I'd imagine it's something more dangerous than your garden variety giant spiders."
By the by, what is a "rainbow spider"? I'd assume Tiko would mention it to me (since I hadn't heard of it yet) since we're here and he wants it.

yeah, yeah, best friends forever and all that - say the grumpy dwarf surrounded by flowers and vials. - That group was in search of the unnusual rainbow spider - He show you a book with a picture in it. The "rainbow" part is due to the variety of colors the spider have - The rainbow spider can only be found in this time of year in the tanglewoods and its poison is very useful for multitude of alchemical items. The poison is very potent, it isnot lethal by itself but you do not want to be poisoned in the forest. I will pay 500 gp if you can fill this bottle...a complicaton is that the poison is useless if the spider dies before milking the venom

Great, so how much does it cost?
"Sounds tricky. Don't suppose you've got a beginner's spider-milking kit for sale?"

Desmond also buys a dose of spider venom antidote (200 gp)
And now we have to get that poison just to break even. Ah well, the word of my heroism will be worth more than the gold anyway.

Once we get there, I'm going to cast some buffs though: Longstrider, Barkskin, Negate Aroma, and Lead Blades.
This is to be asumed as "once we take our first step into the tanglewoods?

You leave the dwarf place and walk(?) to your destination. You take half a day to reach the tanglewoods, a not that big pocket forest in the middle of a plain.
As you aproach you can see the forest is pvery dense and filled with bushes (consider yourselve in dificult terrain). It is so dense that you can not see the sky at any point Alas, I would have prefered a condition between normal and dim light but there is none. So, dim light
You have not entered 20 ft in the forest when you stumble with the body of a recently deceased young gnome. He have a leather armor and some sheated daggers and nothing more. Straped to his back there is a sheat for a bigger sword but there is no sword.
Disturbingly, the gnome also have a smile almost from ear to ear.
Yes. And already, trading Lead Blades for Feather Step proves worthwhile!
Sven inspects the corpse more closely.
Is there any obvious sign of why he's smiling in death? If not, I'll cast something I should have cast earlier (Bloodhound) and sniff of him. If I Take 10 on Perception with that I can smell poison.
The gnome have a small bite on his neck and considerably bigger one on his back. You can cast heal or some knowledge nature for more before spending hte spell.

"Now that's exactly how I want my corpse to look: Grinning like an idiot."
The small injury in the neck released a very powerful sedative and hallucinogen effect. The other one is more simpler, and produce physical pain and weakness.

"Right."
Desmond does the same. He also applies a dose of vermin repellent, and hands his second dose to Sven.

"Magically assisted. I could get it naturally, but..." he stops for a moment and his skin ripples and changes into his bestial form (complete with hooves and horns).
"...I prefer this form better."
And now that he's entered combat mode, he'll follow the scent trail.

"Holy-!"
Desmond looks shocked for a brief moment, but instantly regains his composure.
"Y'know, I used to go adventuring with a guy who could do something like that. Only his was some kind of half-reptile thing. I called him the "Lizard-Man". I guess he didn't really like being called that, because one night he started strangling me and told me that I could either leave the party, or have my vocal cords ripped out of my throat."
"I wonder what he's up to now. Maybe I should get in touch."
"Scalehearts are not known for their warm and loving nature, it's true."
"Rest assured I would never strangle you in your sleep. If I want you gone, I'll take a more direct approach." he points one of his tusks in Desmond's direction menacingly, then backs off and cracks the first (barely recognizable) smile Desmond has seen from him.
