Checking in!

GM Brute Squad |

Ok, I want to talk to you guys about something. Because of some RL stuff I have, and will continue to deal with, I won't be able to post any more during the day for most weekdays. What this means is that the pace I will be able to maintain for this session will be much reduced. I will really only be able to maintain a post or two a day. This saddens me because I have prided myself on the pace I have been able to maintain. I am also concerned that I will not be able to do this scenario justice because of the slower post rate. Rather than just shake my fist at the sky and throw in the towel, I look to you, my players, to ask what we should do.
I see three options:
1. Continue on at a much slower rate and I do my best to be cohesive.
2. I step down and someone else takes over as GM who is more available than I will be.
3. We all take a bow and go out separate ways. We basically haven't started the scenario anyway.
What are your thoughts?

I'm in a similar boat. I don't work at a computer, and my laptop is getting increasingly finicky about making a connection with its power cable. I don't want to move it any more, so no more posting during the day on weekdays unless I'm sick (like Monday or Tuesday) or have a scheduled day off (like today). I'm saving up for a tablet -- actually, I'm saving up to pay down my credit card to improve my credit rating, and then planning to take out a personal loan from my credit union to buy a tablet -- but in the meantime, a slower pace will work for me, as long as its every day.
Seriously. I'm in another game with a slow-but-steady pace that just hit 2500 posts in Gameplay. It's over a year old. Never underestimate the power of a small, consistent habit to add up over time; it drives entire sectors of the economy -- like lending. ;)

@Noa: Have you decided whether you'd rather have a mithral dagger or cestus? It wasn't clear to me, and I didn't want to roleplay the centaurs' gifts wrong. I'm going with a dagger to put in a spring-loaded wrist sheath (if you didn't read it in the now-inactivated game).

had machine trouble of my own yesterday... Better now.
re: game: slow is alright. I was in one game that went 15 years real-time, about a week game time. I left it, but not because of that. So I'll hang with you, slow is alright. But will we lose people? I understood this was supposed to be a fast group, so anyone who joined for that probably shoudl feel free to bail, especially where we've only just been briefed. Noa could totally just flip off the taskmaster. :)
re: cestus/dagger: whatever the narrative says they made, they would have made two of, so another of whatever you got for Dasiji, makes the most sense. I might write that for Noa, even if we were not going forward with this narrative.
So I guess the fate of the game has to be decided first.

I'm totally OK with option #1. I'd rather play slow than have to look for a new group. Hope all is well in the real world though.
Also, not to be a stickler but isn't a mithral weapon 500gp per pound?

The mithral cookware in Ultimate Equipment is priced by the mithral weight, not the steel weight; for example, the 2 lb. mithral skillet is 1001 gp. So unless that was a mistake, a 1/2 lb. mithral (and therefore masterwork) dagger would be 252 gp. Just too good of a deal to pass up, IMO; it would take over half of Dasiji's cash, but I can picture keeping it as a backup weapon for possibly his entire career.

Got a reply from Baru. He's experiencing a family emergency and is thinking of withdrawing for one scenario, since he isn't sure that he could keep up with the group's pace. I replied to let him know about the pace being reduced to daily, so we'll see what he says to that.

Keeping such a memento of Aesantiel is a great bit of RP, so I'm totally down with matched daggers, and drafting the Centaurs into narratively providing them is not abusive, I don't think. We'll just get back to Absalom and binge away the cost of the 'gift'.

It's all possible, and academic. The records will show we bought daggers.
A half-remembered weekend is just RP fluff. "Do you remember... an orphanage?" "I remember an embassy." "Right, I remember that..."
:)

I'm still here. Checking daily.

apologies - distracted (and boards weren't tracking 'new message' update because I haven't posted in the discussion thread yet). Thanks for the Poke!
I'm plenty fine with slow - I really like the group, like the direction of the scenario. It doesn't sound like we'll be losing anyone for that reason, so that's even better.
Onward to Twisted Stairways and Shadowy Clefts and rogue lodges!

So Baru's out for a scenario, and Kass has finals this week, but otherwise we have four players that are fine with a slower place. That's what scenarios used to be written for, right? I think we're ready! :)
(Except, you know, for some RP and shopping that we'll do at the same time, that took place in the past. Since we weren't sure this was going to happen.)

Works for me! IIRC, the boards were super-slow for a week or two last year anyway. Better to plan for it than be disappointed.
Reading closer, mithral cookware doesn't have to be masterwork, and the ones in UE don't say that they are. So, it would be easy enough to keep the cookware unchanged -- including its implied pricing by mithral weight -- and change the text of mithral instead.
If it were up to me, I'd add three words, like so: "Weapons and armors fashioned from mithral are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the [armor and shield] prices given below."
Then, a mithral dagger would still have to be masterwork, but the masterwork cost would *not* be included in the 250 gp for a 1/2-pound item; so it would be that plus the price of a masterwork dagger, or 552 gp total. That would actually be a fair price, in my view.

So whatever, no stress. Your call.

GM Brute Squad |

Ok, so there is this other session that I am GMing. It's about half way done. I was hoping to start on this session, but I am finding that with my new posting schedule I really can't be running two things at once. I apologize and ask you to bear with me. I would like to wait to start this until I am done with the other session so I can give it my full attention. Perhaps by that time Baru will be back with us.
In any case, I will post here again when I am ready to get going. If you want to take these characters and play them in a local game once or twice, feel free.
Again, I'm sorry that my real life and shaken things up so much.

As it happens, I'm busy right now with applying for a better job -- and it's a career change, so I'm practically starting over from scratch with just a bare-bones work history, no real resume. I'm just happy to not be slowing the group down. ;)

I've been busy with the holidays, and down breifly with the flu - also being glad not to hold up the works.
Dasiji - best of luck with the switch - I'm working towards some of that myself, and it's frustrating.

Same. Just waiting.

Still here. As usual, I'm stretching the limit of how many games I can keep up with. (Apparently three is pushing it, and this would be four.) So my posting will be variable, with a lot on some days, and just a couple of sentences on others. Which is basically the same as before. ;)
