Hello everyone,
I'm taking my family to Disney World from Feb 24th to March 4th. During that time my posting may be sparse, I'll try to post from the hotel at night but I can make no promises. If this is a game in which I am a player do not hesitate to bot me if you need to. If this is a game in which I am the GM, please bear with me for the next couple weeks.
Thanks,
Niles

Hey guys, it's the carnival holiday down here, and I'll be traveling with my wife to a quiet little town in the mountains, where very likely I won't get any internet signal. I'll be back to posting on Thursday. Cheers! :)
Lyla
The hero's journey demands a refusal of the call befor the crossing of the threshold! :)
But let's say my planned feat progression just changed radically
Oh, and we'll need to divide the loot, Lyla can return a ring of jumping and boots of striding and springing back to the loot pool.
Lyla
Hi Dragoncat, just checking if you're applying half damage from the splash damage. A successful Reflex save halves the splash damage, but the way you're describing the action I'm under the impression that the thugs are avoiding the damage completely (unless the thugs have Evasion, in which case everything's fine). :)
Dragoncat
Yippee!
On a more serious note, I was *not* a fan of Laori's redesign in the Revised Edition. At least with her old design, her chainmail looked like something a Kuthite would be crazy enough to wear. Frankly, I think her redesign makes her look like a generic priestess of Gorum.

Nalun
BAB +1
HP +6+1(Con)+1(FCB)=+8 New Total= 57
New Feat: Discussed below
Skills +6+1+1
Acrobatics
Bluff
Disable Device
Sense Motive
Survival
Stealth
Perception
Kn:Local
GM, for my 7th level feat Id like to do the following
Take Extra Slayer Talent feat, choose the Rogue Talent Slayer Talent, choose the Combat Trick Rogue Talent, Choose Weapon Specialization Rapier as my Combat Feat.
Basically, I think the rules allow me to circumvent the 4th level fighter requirement for the Weapon Specialization...I think.
Lyla
Tough decision, but leveled up as swashbuckler (inspired blade) to pursue the Blackjack story arc.
- BAB +1
- Got Weapon finesse (rapier only) and Weapon Focus (rapier) as class features, level feat is Fencing Grace
- Favored class: +1 hp
S- kills (8, plus 1 to Escape Artist due to the headband of vast intelect): Acrobatics 1, Bluff 4, Disable Device 1, Perception 1, Use Magic Device 1
I also built a statblock considering the Blackjack outfit. I think it would be unwise to have Lyla using parts if the uniform to boost her "regular" self, so I'll treat that as a separate gear set.
Guys, once more: we have a spare ring of jumping +5, who wants it?
I haven't got around to sorting the loot from the Red Mantis, but this would be a good moment story-wise.
Nalun Elzrahar
Oh, I thought it was like the Ranger Combat style where you didn't have to meet prerequisites.
Ok, well if not that feat does anyone else have any ideas about what Nalun should take. I'd like to make it something that helps his melee fighting skill...
@lyla Nalun only has 1 ring, he'd wear the ring of jumping.

UPDATED
-----------------
1. RED MANTIS LOOT
-----------------
-2x +1 sawtooth sabres (2,335 gp each)
-8x daggers (4 gp each)
-2x +1 leather armor (red mantis) (1,160 gp each)
-2x potion of bull's strength
-2x flask of alchemist's fire (20 gp each);
-2x red cloak of resistance (1,000 gp each);
-2x mask of the red mantis (6,000 gp each)
-54 pp = 540 gp (split 5 ways, that's 108 gp for each of us)
-----------------
2. THUGS LOOT
-----------------
-5 mwk battleaxes (310 gp each)
-25 throwing axes (308 each)
-5 mwk heavy wooden shields (157 gp each)
-5 mwk suits of studded leather armour (175 gp each)
Obs: unless someone wants to pick an item or two, I think we can sell all the thug's loot, for a total of 7,830/2 = 3,915 gp (that's 783 gp for each of us)
-------------------
@Everyone: express your interest in the above items, so we can decide what to keep and what to sell. In the short run, it might be a good idea to keep the Red Mantis uniforms in case we need to do some infiltration, but after that I guess we'll be interested in the helmets and the cloaks.
@Dragoncat: 2 questions: 1, do we get any loot from the thugs? and 2, how much are the red cloaks worth?
Dragoncat
Thug Loot:
--5 mwk battleaxes
--25 throwing axes
--5 mwk heavy wooden shields
--5 mwk suits of studded leather armour.
Red Cloak Value: They're each cloaks of resistance +1. I think I might've forgotten to include that in the loot list.

I'll just throw this idea out there: two-weapon fighting, then retrain weapon focus (rapier) for exotic weapon proficency (sawtooth sabre) and swing away with one sabre in each hand.

What are you looking for? More damage? If so, Accomplished sneak attack would help. Or you could take TWF and use a different offhand weapon. Toughness/Dodge would help with durability.
HP:+8
Bab +1

+1 Nature
+1 Planes

+1 Survival
+1 1st Level Spell:Comprehend Languages

+1 3rd Level Spell: Litany of Righteousness
+1 3rd Level Spell: Righteous Vigor
+1 Feat: Disciple of the Sword

Ooh, nice! Level 4 spells, there's some nice stuff in there.
HP: +8
BAB +1
SP: Heal +1, Know (local) +2, Sense Motive +1.
Spells: +1 1st level/day, +2 4th level.
Going to need to update my spell list, since we're going up against the Emperor! And I don't have a cloak of resistance just yet, so if nobody else needs a +1 version, I'll take it. I also don't have any rings, so while I don't anticipate needing the ring of jumping a lot, I'll take it if nobody wants it.
Nalun Elzrahar
I like the visual of Nalun with Rapier and Buckler...and yes I have a sweet Rapier.
I find Nalun doesn't flank nearly enough for Sneak Attack to be viable...So, I guess either Shield Focus or Dodge.
re:Loot Nalun doesn't need any of it, but he'd take a potion of Bull's Strength, that'll help with damage for sure.
Lyla
I think having a mask of the Red Mantis would be pretty useful for scouting, with the bonus to Perception and darkvision, so if no one objects I'd like to keep one.
Looking at Karri's sheet, I see she has basically no loot from our previous encounters. Karri, are you keeping the sheet updated? For instance, looking back in our disucssion thread we seemed to have given you a cloak of resistance +1, but it's not listed in your sheet. There was also a discussion about Karri keeping an amulet of natural armor +1, which she gave up to sell, and then Demitri stepped in calling dibs, that's not listed in anyone's sheet either. Or maybe we've been too greedy and left Karri nothing? Do we need to audit our loot distribution? :/
Anyways, splitting the current loot:
---------------
KEEP
---------------
Demitri: cloak of resistance +1, potion of bull's strength
Karri: (hasn't chimed in about this loot yet). Suggestion: 1 red mantis helmet.
Lyla: 2x alchemist's fire, 1 red mantis helmet
Nalun: 1 potion of bull's strength
Ortik: cloak of resistance +1
Ortik & Nalun please check who gets the ring of jumping between the two of you
---------------
SELL
---------------
-4x +1 sawtooth sabres (2,335 gp each)
-8x daggers (4 gp each)
-2x +1 leather armor (red mantis) (1,160 gp each)
-5 mwk battleaxes (310 gp each)
-25 throwing axes (8 each)
-5 mwk heavy wooden shields (157 gp each)
-5 mwk suits of studded leather armour (175 gp each)
TOTAL: 15,102/2 = 7,551
Each party member gets: 1,510 gp, 2sp
---------------
MONEY
---------------
In case you haven't done so, you can immediately add 108 gp from the 54 platinum pieces we found. The rest of the money from the items aboves comes once we have time in game to sell the loot. ;)
Lyla
My idea is to keep it stuffed in the bag of holding and pull it out when needed, such as when scouting (in the dark or not) or searching for traps.
But we can sell it, too... though in-game that might pose the same kind of problems as wearing them out in the open.
If we do manage to sell them, that would be another 1,200 gp for each of us (that would be sweet, too).

Caster issues. We have gone over the binary AC issues, that is Karri's AC will never be a dependable source of protection.
Weapons? Not worth investing into. She won't be using it anyway...
Basically, if it doesn't bump CHA or something like that it is not really iseful. Items that would buff her summons would be good too.
Ortik Gutterrat
Decided on my level 7 feat - Spell Penetration. We're hitting the levels where SR becomes more common, and if I'm going to be primarily casting, then I need to make sure my spells aren't nullified. :)

Got it! In any case, you wanted the +2 cloak of resistance that we got from Andaisin, right? Feel free to add it to your sheet and boost your saves. With Ortik, Demitri and Nalun having +1 cloaks, the +2 is yours. ;)
Another item that seems to be unnacounted for is a wand of cure serious wounds with 37 charges that we also got from Andaisin. Ortik has the wand of CLW and Demitri has a wand of CMW, so I think we forgot to add this one to our sheets. Unless Ortik already has it and I'm reading it wrong.
Finally, we had a wand of remove disease that's not anywhere either. I don't think we sold it, but I'll assume we just used the 7 charges left to cure people right after the plague, and that's why we don't have it anymore. :)
Once we sell all the loot (including the helmets), we can add 2,710gp, 2sp to our sheets (that's per character).
So that should make everything right!
[EDIT] Ortik, don't forget to add the ring of jumping to your gear.
Karri Chouk
Karri has Andi's cloak.
Karri will be taking Black Fire Adept, the Standard Action summons is hard to resist. :)
But feats...
Improved Familiar (Kasdaye made flesh?)
Combat Casting
Friendly Switch
Toughness
I am open to other suggestions, too. I will publish a new Karri soona
Demitri Severin
I like that Kasdaye is all in your head so I wouldn't recommend Improved Familiar. I think Toughness or a metamagic feat would be the best. I can carry the wand of CSW unless Ortik wands to hold onto it.

Personally, I think an improved familiar like a quasit or a qlippoth would be very interesting for Karri's story arc. It would be as if she's losing control of Legion and Kasdaye is starting to escape Karri's mind to become an actual, physical presence. I would like to see this arc unfold inside the regular story. ;)
I see a time coming soon when Lyla is going to sit down and say "ok, we need to talk about this Legion thing..."

So, I've been running a Runelords game for a local group for about three years now. We're currently scheduled to play the next session this coming Thursday, and it's going to be the last. They just entered the Eye of Avarice, and are as ready as they can be to take on Karzoug the Claimer. One way or the other, that campaign ends in a few days, assuming it doesn't get pushed back for one reason or another.
The point is that after that final battle, I'll be moving on to run Curse of the Crimson Throne, since I want the same players that ran in Runelords to experience that story as well. I can't wait until they discover that there's a whole clan of Vancaskerkins, that they really should have done something about the fungus in The Misgivings, and so much more. The only downside is that I now have to really dive into the Collected Edition, so none of what's coming up will be a surprise to me any longer. I'm kinda bummed about that - I've really enjoyed the twists and turns that have happened in the game, and while I've known the broad strokes, it's been fun to discover the details.
The best part? The changes that Dragoncat's been making have been excellent choices for those people who know the story backwards and forwards, so I feel pretty good about going into the remaining chapters forewarned of the dangers - I can't completely trust what I'm reading!
