Oi Vie! I have learned to hate this dice generator. But hey Its what we have. And apologies to all the crew, my tactics have been lacking and coupled with lousy rolls, have really made Hon a problematic character.
Really? Huh. And here I'd always thought it had been his mouth and poor taste in fashion that made people want to punch him. Learn something new everyday all right!

Gallak, not sure if you're thinking of a different spell than Rope Trick?
You'll only be able to ascend max of 30' on it, any more than that and you'll enter the extra-dimensional space. Which won't be much help to you once the spell wears out and the druegar are all waiting at the bottom for ya.
Joan the Hunter
He said it was an easy climb. And if it's as narrow as I think it is, it's a DC 5 or 10 + whatever the penalty for hauling Kragg or Magnum is. I say the two strongest take them first (I think that's Khazad and Nar). Kib Joan and Gallack will provide cover for a couple of rounds and then go up with Kib zapping anything that pokes it's head in.
Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye
Hmmm, well we Could stay up there for a while to rest and recover I suppose. But what would a Dispel Magic do??
And we'd still have to deal with the Drugar whenever the spell expires.
As for putting in piton's, don't forget that %$&%#$@&% elemental is still poking around. He can push that piton out in a second. -_-
Gallak Fangbreaker
To anyone in their right mind, it'd look as though we escaped using like, levitate. The window is invisible, and the rope can be pulled up inside.
I doubt they have dispel, or it'd have come up since.
Besides, we're not making it out of here one at a time climbing while carrying the unconscious.
Even if we don't climb into the space, I did just get the rope 30' up the wall, so I'll call it a win for now.
Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye
" Creatures in the extra-dimensional space are hidden, beyond the reach of spells (including divinations), unless those spells work across planes. The space holds as many as eight creatures (of any size). The rope cannot be removed or hidden."
Gallak Fangbreaker
Our group just had a huge deal about how to target where you can't see... We decided on a survival check, DC= the squares AC (almost always 5 barring cover) +5 per 5' increment, using splash weapon rolls to determine affected area. You miss by the number of feet that's the difference between your check and the DC.
A mite convoluted, but it works beautifully.

I am halfway through the potion duration (6 minute minimum for 3rd lvl caster) Been trying to brainstorm how to turn this to my advantage in a combat setting, in particular, this scenario. I am enjoying quite a bit of hindsight. Live and learn.
So ~32 rounds have passed, Movement is 10'/rd, approximately 320 feet of drifting. I'll be drifting up the chimney. With intention of scouting the surface soldiers. So unless the duergar figure out a way to damage/stop me, I may already be topside.
Pros and con of gasousness.
Pro: DR across the board; I'll assume as a gas I can get a +10 stealth(no noise, translucent amorphous); cancel at will; simple barriers are passable.
Con: I can hear, I can pantimime, but this airhead can't talk, lousy movement rate;

Oh. Well played master gnome
First he casts fog cloud, hoping to obscure their pursuers. Then, after climbing a safe distance out of the way, he casts web again, aiming it at the bottom of the shaft, hoping to further block any possible pursuit.

OK. I am at a loss of how to recover. Mea Culpa. Gonna put out a couple of meta options. Help me out.
1) Do nothing. Contine to drift along, rise up the chimney and greet everyone at the top, assuming y'all make it to the top. Hoping that the soldiers are friendlies. Resume play with increased risk factors.
2) Cease gas potion, backtrack to cleric and see if I can work the 5th column to our advantage or at very least to extricate ourselves.
3) Cease gas potion. Cause enough hate and discontent to distract the duergar enough to draw pressure off you guys, elude and evade until capture.
I'd rather not see this campaign die due to non-response. At the very least, see it until the bitter cold dead end as the elves dance and sing upon our unmarked graves.
Khazad Grimglaive
I think the duergar have mostly left us alone and everyone should be able to climb up without hindrance. I see two options. If the soldiers are not our direct enemies, we can comply and drop the weapons, and Hon will collect them downstairs. Or if the battle ensues, Hon will be useful up top, coming out of gas and landing some sneak attacks.
Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye
Well, looks like they're for sure not friendlies. Its too bad joan already dropped her bow, cause I think we can take these guys. Khazad and Gallak are already up and out of the chimmney, right? Since they were the first two climbing. But so if they are, why can't they see what's going on??
Joan the Hunter
Joan is the fastest climber, and it'd take 2 rounds double moving and at an accelerated climb for her to get up to the top. That's assuming that she made all four checks.
They have the high ground and can rain rocks, bolts and arrows on us without threat of retaliation for at least two rounds. We're flatfooted for at least that long, and on top of everything else they can get AoO on us as we climb out. And there is likely to be more up there.
Simply put, they have us at a great disadvantage, and we may be able to win, but it's going to be costly.
Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye
ya i thought that too
and even if joan is a faster climber, the others had a few rounds on her climbing
and even if she did catch up to them, she couldn't have, or wouldn't have(??) climbed Over them, could/would she??
Joan the Hunter
I don't know, but from the way Chainmail described it, Joan's up front.
Joan is a survivalist, but she's far from a coward. She wouldn't have climbed over anybody.

Personally, Hon would probably have annexed the deurgar vs displaced them. Previous ownership notwithstanding. It would have been quite the coup for Hon and the Society of Secrets. Reparations could then be made for any dwarven prisoners. It might still happen, only this time including my former peers.

Ah crap. Nutt'n like another fine impression for da new bosses. And thanks Joan for dropping the dime on me. Cripes. ;-) Once again, I note the self-titled irony of Society of Secrets.
Note to self (1): When I become guildmaster, rename ourselves Better Business Bureau. Sounds far more palatable in aristocratic settings as well as common taverns and frankly is far more (ironically for a thieves guild?) honest with its intentions.
Note to self (2): Survive to guildmaster first.
Note to self (3): Confirm definition of irony. Don't want to end up like a certain sicilian friend of mine.
Joan the Hunter
Sorry, I'm trying to play the character I didn't think about the, ah, repercussions of letting them know that we had a member of the society in our ranks.
On the plus side, they haven't relieved Joan of anymore of her hit points for asking questions. :)
Kibibblepep Sparkle Eye
Ah, also the reprecussions of letting them know we have one or members they still haven't rounded up yet. You're not about to blurt out "Oh ya! Well our hidden Gnome friend will get you! You just wait!" Or anything the like, are you?? : P

Oh Kib will be so surprised when Hon solidifies alongside him. In all the scenarios that could've happened, why'd did Hon manage to also escape? Umm Is Kib paranoid at all, this would dovetail nicely into several plausible conspiracies...
Assuming, Hon continues upwards after that last dialogue... If he heard it.

Well, the chase through the mines did not translate as well to PbP as I had hoped. As we are in the wrap up stages, anyone wishing to continue will be level 4. On the table top it seemed to work much better.
The posting rate is now one fifth that of the elven thread, where it usually was the other way around.
Let us take a head count and see who is ready to continue. Kragg has patiently waited, I apologize for the delay. We are now hitting the big holiday, so people will be busy.
IF you are still interested in continuing, make your character level 4, remember your stat increase, and acknowledge in the discussion thread. Continue to RP in the gameplay thread and we will see if we need to recruit some more dwarves.
Joan the Hunter
I'm in. I'm wrapping up with school so graduation and Christmas will be hitting my post rate pretty hard.
I'll have Joan leveled by Monday.
Chainmail
Dec. 9 is our anniversary. The plan was a level every three months, but we are doing well. I definitely would appreciate some feedback. We definitely slowed down in the mines.
Right now, the only question is the fate of Hon's Society friends.
The elves are wrapping up a big encounter too. Hope to be ready to post in the consolidated elf/dwarf thread to tie things up.
Joan the Hunter
Might want to look into having initiative in chunks, group with the highest goes first. Consider dividing the party to have us challenged more instead of having us in a huge fight.
Also, we don't seem to be having luck with Clerics. :/ Maybe consider having two this time.
Everything else though has been great!
Gallak Fangbreaker
The melee mash-ups have me feeling a bit clustered, but that adds to the experience I think, especially in mines. With my new barbarian level, I hope my feeling of uselessness will abate.
I disagree with Joan about initiative, but it might help things move along. As for the holidays, they won't interupt my posting since my family lives several thousand miles away anyhow.
Joan the Hunter
Okay, Joan's leveled.
And those were supposed to be suggestions in my last post. Sorry it came out as "Do this!"
And a full year of Dwarves v. Elves! Yippee!
Chainmail
Plan is to have bad guys try to go on one, at most two initiatives (if say rogues with special feats are involved) so party order in between is not as important. That way I can do a summarizing catch up post of party actions and post the bad guys actions too.
Also will keep better track of rounds--clearly IDing the round so we can track the duration of spells and effects. I had to go back and count for Kib's expeditious retreat and Hon's gaseous form. Players can help by posting the duration of current effects--e.g. Conditions: Bless 7 rounds left, Enlarge Person, 11 rounds left.

I am back.
Hon will stick around until he cannot.
"Associate member" pishposh. I believe they may by under the false impression of a token member hired merely to meet a quota and provide a wedge into the Hall's of Rock for thier puppetry manipulation! Hon sees it quite differently. He interpeted his designation as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. As such, he will do as he sees fit to strengthen 1)His position; 2) Dwarven nation; 3) Society of Secrets (Pah! Better Business Bureau in his hall). Not necessarily in that order but a delicate flexible balance with the focus on long term (50-100 year) goals.
Thus far, Hon is learning about the sense of entitlement expected by long-standing members.
