Don't hate it because it's beautiful.
Bloodless gets the feeling that if the weapon could somehow roll its nonexistent eyes it would. It continues tugging for a while towards the chests until after a good while (literally taking twenty each time) she manages to open them where a large feeling of resignation comes over it with minor interest towards the contents of the second chest.
So I guess we stand there for a while until Aerieth opens them. Skipping the spellcraft identification to save time. [stronghint]perhaps the group ma spend some of that time retrieving the badguys weapons and perhaps searching the debris for thigns of interest[/stronghint]
Inside one chest are several pounds of long-outdated
investment papers, lists of debts, and various notes on
blackmail victims—while once of incredible value, these papers are now worthless thanks to the passage of time and the deaths of most involved. Of greater value are this chest's other
contents, including several rare
books. These books include a nearly intact Andoren philosophy
book, an illustrated scenic journey through Osirion, a three-volume work on the teachings of a spirit naga entitled the Libra Malfactum, and a spellbook containing 30 spells Hidden in the spine of the spellbook is a scroll of contagion (CL 9th). Under the books is a layer of 1,300 gp, along with a narrow ivory box with a carved lid depicting an army of golems destroying a city wall. The box is worth, and it contains a golembane scarab and a wand of rusting grasp with 7 charges.
Chelish Crux. This strange and baffling object appears
as a wooden and metal dodecahedron (similar in shape
to a d12) that measures about 6 inches in diameter—
each face of the crux is carved with a different rune,
and when one looks upon the thing, the observer has
the unsettling sensation that he can see too many or
too few sides at once. There is no apparent way to open it. It is what you came for.
Bloodless
"A success and a payday, who'd have thought our luck would change finally?" Bloodless smacks the glaive on a flagstone, accidentally on purpose, not hard, but making a point - to show the object who's the boss.
TarkXT
I dunno! I figured bejis had it! In any case after a statement like that this was bound to happen. Thankfully for bloodless it's not a big boy intelligent item.
The glaive is pissed about the rough handling and Bloodless feels it angrily but impotently try and stop him before its emotions swirl into a quiet seething.
Aerieth Deventis
In my previous post, I also cast Detect Magic and swept the room for anything with a magical aura.
Aerieth will also start to search through the debris and refuse to see if anything of value has fallen to the ground and sunk into the morass.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Aerieth will also carefully inspect the spellbook making sure that there are no runes, glyphs or other traps for the unwary.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 <-- apparently after getting covered with the filth of the sewers, she does not want to get the muck on the book
She will then cast Read Magic to see what treasures the book may hold.
Teo Brissett
Teo focuses her Detect Magic as well, wanting to be sure anything of value in this hellish place was taken with them.

A few Spellcraft Checks:
Spellcraft(Sword 1): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Spellcraft(Crown): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Sword 2: +1 Keen Longswordwand: Cure Moderate wounds with 33 charges
+1 cold iron battle axe
Ring of feather falling
Minor Crown of blasting
Bejis Krupt
How big/heavy (portable) is chest #1? Assuming it can be carried, Bejis (lacking other containers) will try to carry it out. (Does anyone have a bag of holding?)
Bejis will look among the weapons, "Are any of these effective against Shadows?" Bejis will pick up sword #2 and the axe. Offering them to Bloodless, "You should take one as a secondary weapon, for when we run into some new kind of unpleasant thing."
"We still haven't seen whoever else that Elf was with, or what at least what killed it" I think it was a dead Elf at the entrance
Look for signs of recent passage/activity Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Aerieth Deventis
I will take the Crown of Blasting for now. Not sure what else would be useful. I have full time Feather Fall on anyway from the Air arcane school.
I will also take the spellbook.
Here are the items we have. Claim what you want.
Chest 1
Inside one chest are several pounds of long-outdated
investment papers, lists of debts, and various notes on
blackmail victims—while once of incredible value, these papers are now worthless thanks to the passage of time and the deaths of most involved. Of greater value are this chest's other

A spellbook containing 30 spells. <-- Aerieth (scribe scrolls for Teo as needed)
Scroll of Contagion(CL9) <-- I would say destroy, except that it is worth 900gp.
1,300 gp
A long with a narrow ivory box with a carved lid depicting an army of golems destroying a city wall. The box is worth ???.
A golembane scarab. <-- Bejis or Bloodless to overcome DR on attacks
A wand of rusting grasp with 7 charges.
Chest 2
Some nasty artifact - we are leaving it in the chest, Bejis will carry.
Found in the muck
Sword - unidentified, need Teo to check
+1 Keen Longsword (Bejis or Bloodless)
+1 Cold Iron Battleaxe (Bejis or Bloodless)
Wand of CMW (33 charges) (Bloodless or Teo)
Crown of Blasting, minor <-- Aerieth or Teo -- I would say Bingo, but I think we lost him
Ring of Feather Falling <-- Bejis or Bloodless, Teo has flight hex and I have air arcane school
Teo Brissett
Spellcraft sword 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
"Perhaps I'd be better with the crown, Aerieth. My spells lack a bit of damage potential. If I can't hex or charm something, I have a great deal of trouble with them. That crown might allow me to help out a bit more against, say, undead, for example."
Teo Brissett
"Wow, what an impressive collection of arms we have found! We could use these, or sell them to improve our own gear," she chirps, excited at the findings.
Teo picks up the wand of Curing and burns two charges on Bloodless.
CMW 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11
CMW 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9
I can carry that wand as well, if the group prefers. 31 charges left now on CMW wand.
Bejis Krupt
Bejis takes the +1 Cold Iron Battleaxe, securing it on his pack, and then puts on the Golembane Scarab.
He carefully puts the 3 books into the pack, along with a few hastily selected papers that he thinks Janiven might be able to review.
Bejis starts working to pack up chest #2 for transport.
Teo Brissett
Teo takes the wand, and waits to hear from Aerieth before deciding what to do with the magical crown.
"How are we going to get by those nasty shadows to get out of here?"
Aerieth Deventis
Aerieth looks over to Teo.
You take the crown. It will allow you to fire a blast of flame once per day. Not the greatest weapon, but in a pinch, everything helps.
She then looks at the weapons that the party has found.
I am much better with a bow than a sword, but I can use the other long sword.
Crown of Blasting, minor - goes to Teo.
I will take the defending longsword. Probably should be sold in the long run, but it is better than nothing for me and can at least do some damage if we hit the shadows.
TarkXT
With the treasure packed you start to make your way back.
I'm going to throw you a bone here because frankly running through about two to three dozen shadows is suicide without a very very good cleric backing you up.
You recall the mirror room, the series of portals likely used by the previous owners to step out of the vault and into various parts of the manor. You recall even one that stepped into a discreet alley way not too far from the manor itself perhaps used as a secret way to leave the manor without being seen.
Perception checks please and last chance to do any final things before leaving.
Bejis Krupt
This book. I don't think we did anything with it yet, but Bejis is inclined to destroy it, rather than let anyone buy it. (Ready to move on.)
TarkXT
And now for the real boss fight.
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 Bloodless just barely missed her. Shame.
You trek your way out of the vault and enter the knot's heart, a bizarre winding maze of doors and impossible geometry. Feeling your spirits lifted by the weight of treasure and the satisfaction of a hard job done you begin to make your way out and back to the hideout...when a cold mocking voice startles you.
"The Council sends it's regards."
Followed by a poisoned crossbow dart.
Teo takes 12 damage and needs to make a fortitude save.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 Assassin
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Teo
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Aerieth
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15+2 Bloodless
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Bejis
As each of you seek the source of the voice and the sudden injury on your halfling friend you spot a pretty scary looking onyx skinned tiefling on the other side of the room above (or maybe below you) on the stairs. BEfore you can react she takes aim once again and drops another shot into teo's chest. 17 damage to teo for 29 total. Teo's down at -4
As Teo goes down in two shots the tiefling gives a wry smile as her eyes glow malevolently red in the gloom.
Whole area is dim lighting. Good guys up. Map wil be updated above.
Bloodless
I guess the GM largesse just ran out :p Wonder what that remark was about?
Moves to Z92
Attack 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 = 20{Silversheen/Powerattack/favoured enemy}
Damage 2d4 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 10 + 2 = 18
Aerieth Deventis
Hoping to keep the tiefling assassin from getting in any more cheap shots, Aerieth circles around behind her and attempts to stab her with her rapier.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18 <-- +2 flanking
Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (3) = 6 <-- extra 1d6 sneak
Aerieth Deventis
Forgot you had changed to the map at the top of the page technique. I figured with a single opponent, you had skipped the map.
Change my attack to an arrow.
Attack -- (12)+7+1 = 20 --> +7 attack, +1 Point Blank Shot
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Bejis Krupt
Bejis goes around the stairs, eager to lay into the Tiefling. Z90, start raging.
Greatsword, PA: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 = 31 for 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (4, 4) + 13 = 21
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 2 = 22 for 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 6) + 13 = 21
Can Knockback/Bull Rush be used to push enemies into pits? Not that it's useable at the moment, but could be useful is she moves.
Edit: +2 for Flanking
Edit 2: If we take her alive (for questioning), is everyone ok with killing her outright later? I don't want to start a long side topic again.
TarkXT
With the brutal response from the group the assassin cries out as her ribcage is crushed between two greatsword blows. Spitting black blood she grumbles
"F##~ it. Bonus isn't worth a shattered ribcage. Another time then."
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22 Acrobatics
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25 Acrobatics
With a light step she cartwheels between the two men and into the void below...
42 damage. Yikes.
Only to reappear above falling from the ceiling clutching something to her chest. As she disappears into the darkness below again she does not return again into view.
Bloodless
Edit 2: If we take her alive (for questioning), is everyone ok with killing her outright later? I don't want to start a long side topic again.
I'm in favour of simply hacking them to bits. The ratio of time spent having polite chats and the yield of useful information seems to suggest that its better to simply gank them and move on as being better for all concerned. Talking to NPC's is like taking a metal detector to the beach, a nice theory and a fun passtime, but you only ever really get bottlecaps.
"Great shot Bejis! Lets get our wounded fixed and get out of here."
That ended quick!
