"Oh dear! I'm a bit out of practice, I suppose. Thank you, Torque."
Melody is fully a support character and as much as I like pushing the action, she will stay in the back row and let others lead the way. I'll still try to push but she'll never lead the way.
Melody frets over her forgetfulness for a moment but then says, "Well, at least it didn't do any lasting damage but let's learn our lesson and be more careful moving forward next time. Check the door and then let's move onwards." Melody will detect magic on the door and around the room while the others double-check for more traps.
DM Ranginui
Melody senses a fading aura around the candles. Although there appear to be no more traps, a simple abjuration seems to hold the wooden door fast.

James squints in pain when burned by the fire and sighs when Torque's healing wave washes over him.
"Yes, careful, not much in here doesn't want us dead it seems."
DM Ranginui
To help things get back on track, you can either hack the door down (it's wooden), take a guess at the actions needed to undo the arcane lock, or some other method (the party currently lacks disable device, but a knock spell would work).

Maybe we should use a grappling hook from outside the room and rip the damn candles off the wall. Then we can hack through the door if we have to.

Oh, sorry! I didn't see any updates so I forgot to post all weekend.

"Well, the inscription said Offer prayer to Kro’akoth the Awakener, scaled brethren, and be welcome here. Maybe if someone offered up a prayer we could pass in without harm. I really wouldn't feel comfortable doing such a thing; the Lady Shelyn is my patroness and I would never take another."
James Shieldworn
|
James nods and then says, "Not a big religious person and I doubt Old Deadeye would mind if I said a few words to some other god, knowing of course, I was just trying to defend the land." he smirks.
"Oh great Kro'akoth, the awakener, We ask for your assistance as we traverse this tower. Provide us with your guidance and protection." he looks at his more religious companions for direction.
Pay no attention to the silly elven wizard...he's always butting in
Melody Flaxseed

Melody shrugs. "It sounds good to me. But I've never read any prayers to Kro'akoth so your guess is as good as mine. I just hope that one of us saying it is good enough. Let's try to go forward now, shall we?"
DM Ranginui
Morrolan speaks the words of undercommon, which make a gravelly noise in the mans throat. With a click the door at the end of the short hallway unlatches. As soon as the door opens, a rank odor, like a burned corpse was left out in the sun for a week, rushes out. The room is an irregular octagon, and stone and wood barricades have been built in front of the doors on the south and west walls. It appears the walls were once covered with frescoes, but these have all been smashed, leaving rough walls and jagged debris.
More immediate, however, are the half-dozen dark colored, spiked troglodytes. Half wait behind the barricade, javelins in hand, while half wait beside the door for any unfortunates that might wand through - in this case, an unlucky group of Pathfinders!
Troglodyte stench, DC 14 or be sickened for 1 minute. I rearranged folks in what seemed like a sensible order going through the door.

Melody gladly heals James up. She is not interested in the stinky troglodyte gear. "Wonder what they were doing down here though and how long they've been alone with their stinky god." She shrugs. "I'm sure we'll figure out more as we go on. To the west?"
DM Ranginui
The gave to the West proves to be quarters for the recently deceased troglodytes, with simple furs and nothing more scattered about the floor. A cave to the south is even more odoriferous then usual, as it is a collection place for the reptilian excrement.
Turning to the room in the south, there is no need to listen at the door - it is already ajar as a sign of the troglodytes recent and hasty. As he pushes the door further open, there appears to be only a firepit in the center.
As James and Damien peer into the room, both notice that the ashes within the fire are shifting and stirring in a most unnatural way.
