Running Storm King's Thunder as self contained modules in Adventurers League, starting with A Great Upheaval.

I am considering running the Storm King's Thunder in sort of modular segments, ranging from Tier 1 to Tier 2. If there is enough interest for tier 1, I can run the Great Upheaval, which will take you up to level 5.

Then I was planning to run the Triboar portion for level 5.

Then the Oracle of the All Father chapter.

Then the Fire Giant chapter.

So, anyone interested?

Grand Lodge

I am very interested.

I’m in for sure.

Grand Lodge

I have the crunch for Sliver, the wood elf ranger. I still need to work on fluff, but he was a smuggler who is now hoping to change his life and his luck by doing some good in the world.

@Greycastle, playing Saphina?

@Dax, looks good!

If we get at least one more, I will get on it. Thanks for your responses! :)

I am of course, very down for 5E.

What do you want me to roll up. I have ideas for a ton of things.

Grand Lodge

Whatever you'd like! It is Storm King's Thunder, so preferably something that has a home on or around the Sword Coast. ;)

Do you want 1st levels or just T1? If your running the whole thing will it take saphina out of T1 for the second part? She is 3rd. Well on her way to 4th.

Grand Lodge

It can be tier 1, but Great Upheaval is supposed to be the intro adventure, so it is a great excuse to bring in a brand new hero! Should be fine either way!

EDIT: As it is a HC adventure, I think you can level out and still play, as long as you stick with it the whole way. (No adventure jumping.) At least that is the interpretation that I glean from the rules.

Ahh yeah Saph would miss Sashah too much lol.

Yeah, I think Sashah is missing his lil buddy too...

So much. I could jump in with a warlock char I have theory crafted....though, he is a bit eccentric. Unless the caster role is more than full, then I can pump out a new char.

Grand Lodge

I think only the ranger has been decided. What will our giant hunter group be comprised of? :)

I'm interested, sure! Would be rolling a brand new character. Sounds like one ranger and a whole lotta possibility.

I've yet to try a 5e game. Bought players guide when it first came out but never got past that. My blasted area is just card game heavy... No idea on class yet, will what others choose first.

Are you wanting to get started real soon? Modenkeinan’s comes out next week. This might be a good place to sample some new stuff as a +1 book. If you want to get started before that, I’ll get cracking on something. I’m working on some ideas now.

I have a 3rd level cleric I can use(just need to bring paper to digital) or I can whip something 1st level up later to night.

Grand Lodge

I can wait until Mordenkainen's comes out. Yeah, I expect to have a fairly interesting bunch! ;)

Roster:
Sliver - Ranger 1 (Dax)
Greycastle
Niles
Saashaa
Nefaerieous
Stigand
Buckshot Bob - cleric 3 possibly

Buckshot makes 7, which will put us at our max table size. Anyone after this will be an alternate, if someone drops out.

Stigand, you are very welcome to have your first 5e experience with us! Make sure that you all review the Adventurers League Players Guide:

Here.

yay and will do!

If we’re not rolling first levels, I will probably play the character I ran through all the Storm King AL content with. But with mordenkeinen’s a rebuild may be in order.

Is Parnast the village part of the SKT Hard Cover?

Grand Lodge

No, Parnast is Tier 1 modules. The HC generally covers the Sword Coast, where Parnast is the far eastern edge... Don't think Parnast is even in the gazetteer...

Dalron is basically ready (aka Buckshot Bob).

Do you want a back story or my AL number?

Grand Lodge

AL number is not necessary. I will tell you guys rewards and I will trust you to enter them on your logsheets. I will give have my DCI under my name when I run, so that you can document.

Backstory up as much as you would like! I eat that stuff up! I may even put in little Easter Eggs for the PCs depending on backstories.

Updated roster:
Sliver - wood elf ranger 1 (Dax) - Emerald Enclave?
Greycastle
Niles
Saashaa
Nefaerieous
Stigand
Dalron human life cleric 3 (Buckshot) - Faction: Order of the Gauntlet

@Buckshot, 5e does not have touch AC anymore, so you can remove that. ;)

Thank you, I have only been playing 5E for a few months. Been playing 3/3.5 and Pathfinder mostly. Started with Advance D&D in the late 70's

So...I am torn on whether to Warlock or not. I very much like the concept and have a solid grasp of rp for the char. But, that concept could put strain on the group as a whole. As I have found out recently, having a difficult char over the textual play medium seems unadvisable due to the fact that it makes me look like a jerk. Thoughts..?

char info: Warlock w/ a greater old one patron.
summarized concept: Insane cultist that believes in the insanity as a good thing, something to be achieved.
tactics: utilizes psychic damaging attack spells, flavored as telepathic communications from char 'telling truths' to the target.

I say play what you want. Instead of being a jerk you could try and put a humorous spin on him. ie, small rocks are his friends and during rest he places then around for his time at watch. Or to scout ahead he tells a rock to report back what he finds and throws it where HE was to scout. Just some ideas.

Grand Lodge

Yes Sliver's faction is Emerald Enclave

thinking Oath of Vengeance paladin. also kinda waiting to see what everyone else is doing

or maybe a dwarf battlerager and bite Giant ankles

Vengeance Pal was one of my options as well. But feel free to play whatever you want. That is the beauty of AL. We have a cleric and it sounds like Sashah is going with a caster and what looks like a ranged ranger. Up front melee is not a bad choice.

still looking over classes and saw the paladin quick start says to use the Noble background. read up on that and came up with this.

Knight variant of the Noble background - his retainers are squire helping the knight(Paladin) don/doff his armor in the morning/night(fix dents and clean armor and sharpen weapons), Order of the Gauntlet banner bearer(cook and camp maker), and his groom. The groom has to use coconut shells until my knight could afford a horse.

also debating rogue and monk. may multiclass those two.

Grand Lodge

Yes, brainstorm!

@Saashaa, like Buckshot said, he could be harmless, humorous insane until his friends are threatened, the he gets downright scary!

@Buckshot/Dalron, I have been playing since mid-80s. My mom got the red box for me and my sister. Been through all of the editions except 4th. Tried, but just couldn't get into it.

@Stigand, nice nod to Holy Grail... :)

just found out I can't sneak attack with fists, so won't multiclass

Grand Lodge

Okay, no worries. Yeah, in a home game, I would allow it, but AL is a little more strict about that...

Don't worry too much about optimizing. I am not the type of DM that runs everything as optimized. I play the monsters to their Intelligence and what would make sense to be their general tactics.

I am not saying do not, but don't feel like you HAVE to to have fun in this game. :)

Same here, 4ed just could not get into.

Loved 4e. Missed it for a long time but understood when dnd next started and participated a lot in the play testing. Monte Cook ran a play test game for us too. This was early in development befor he went his own way. He didn’t like our table’s feedback lol.

Grand Lodge

If I could have found a good group to play, or had found Acq Inc, the podcast back then, maybe it would have been different. I see a lot of 4e in 5e, but they solved much of what turned me off with the new ed.

Does that look right?

- Where did the Menacing feat come from? I do not believe that is a legal feat for AL
- I believe you went with a Tome lock but keep in mind that you don’t get to pick a boon until 3rd level. So you would not have the 3 additional canttips until then.

It is in UA I thought. I very much missed the pact boon being 3rd level, oops. Will edit.

As much as I like some UA content, the only resources that can be used are from published sources. So PHB and Xanathar’s guide are the two sources for feats.

Ah gotcha. The revisions look good?

Yep. Looks good. Just remember that Healing Word is a single use spell. Not part of your spell list for your warlock spells.

I'm rebuilding this dude for AL, gonna make him a babybarbarian, and a half orc.

I'll put my name down as an alt. :)

Alright GM. I decided to keep Aukan as a Goliath, I like the idea of playing a taciturn yet brutal warrior.

Aukan will wade into battle with a song on his lips, singing the mountain hymns of his Clan. He thinks of nothing but glory in battle and to conquer the Giant scourge.

He will be a smash things first, ask questions of the smashed things later kind of character.

I haz the dumb, can't figure out how to insert a profile image for this non-alias account....

Hmmmm....haven't played a bard in a while. Just played a cleric in a tabletop game that was fun. But I really like spell casters that don't have to memorize spells. Cleric of light, or pyromaniac....hmmmm.

located my original xbox Jade Empire and now in a monk mood

So what do we have as a party as of now? And what time frame are we looking at for a start date?
