"We mean you no harm, I am Dalron a prest of Ilmater. You are safe now, we are here to help you."

The woman jumps at being spotted by the Ilmater priest, at first looking like she is going to bolt. You can see as Dalron's words sink in, then she gestures toward the source of the rummaging and shakes her head, mouthing, Goblin!

Oghren swaps his great axe out with his warhammer remembering Snow wanted to question it. Slowly following Dalron to the kitchen and trying to take a peek.

You see a goblin is searching through the rubble of the inn’s pantry and stuffing edibles into a large sack that’s almost too heavy for her to drag, let alone carry. The northwest corner of the inn (pantry included) was destroyed by a falling rock. Most of the kitchen, however, was undamaged. Set into the north wall is a stone fireplace, and the floor is covered with broken dishware and scattered utensils.

Mayberry looks all around, at the boulders, at the hole in the ground, and watches the others enter the building and look up. She spots the woman mouthing something to Dalron, and figures they are sneaking up on another goblin rummaging around. Knowing they have this well in hand, she quietly goes upstairs to see if the woman is hurt or needs help, and if there are others.

What would you like to do? You think that the goblin may be out for a matter of hours.
Inspecting the large bag that she had, you find several muffins, a block of cheese, a cooked chicken, a frying pan, an iron pot, a bullseye lantern, two flasks of oil, a set of cook’s utensils, a jar of cloves (worth 1 sp), a jar of saffron (worth 1 gp), a dented silver jug (worth 20 gp), and a cracked hourglass (worth 25 gp if repaired).
Oghren Battlehammer
"We'll now that we have one, does anyone know goblin? If no one can, off with its head." Says a smiling Oghren.
Snow in the Valley
Do any of us have the ability to speak to the goblin? If not, letting the creature live may be for not.
” Let us talk to the woman upstairrrs. We need to underrrstand what happened herrre.” Snow grabs the goblin roughly and easily carries it into the next room unceremoniously tossing it on the floor where the woman from above could see it. ”Come down now girrrl. You arrre safe. Tell us what has happened herrre. “
Sliver.
Sliver can speak goblin.
Aeshuura, Sliver searched the goblins outside. Any have anything interesting on them? Loot, tribal marking, anything? The same for this one. Sliver will look as he ties it up.
Aeshuura

@May, give me a Charisma (Persuasion) check. The woman seems shaken and skittish.
@Sliver, since goblin is one of your favored enemies, you know that this is the Grey-tooth Tribe, a tribe of goblins found close to the Ardeep Forest.
Aukan Knows-No-Fear
Whew. I go camping for 2 days and there's 35 posts.
Aukan's been investigating the rock outside. He comes inside when her hears Dalron start talking.
Friend Dalron. You called?
Then he notices that Oghren and the others took care of the problem.

"Could everyone be more quiet?" Sliver says angrily in a loud whisper. "There could be more of them." He looks up into the rafters. "Please, whoever you are, what can you tell us of what happened here?" He looks around "Quietly tell us."

@Eeerie, are you petting the dead worg saying, 'Good puppy?'
Hesitantly, the blonde woman Pic moves out of view, toward what you would expect to be the stairs.
A few minutes later she comes down the stairs into the dining room with you all. She seems shaken, still, and says quietly, Thank all the gods you are here...
She goes on to explain that she tried to leave with the others, when the boulders started falling from the sky, but in trying gather all of her things, she tarried too long and the goblins trapped her up in her room. She could see the wolves out the window and goblins everywhere.
She had just arrived in town a few days ago, to meet a friend, and has been trying to escape over the course of these past two days, but she could not confidently get past the wolves...
Let me know if you want to ask her anything else...
Assuming that you continue exploring, you find that 8C seems to be the innkeep's room and he has a lockbox at the base of his bed that is locked.
8D, E, and F are guestrooms with 8F being Kella's room. Only 8F was damaged by the boulder. The only other difference between the rooms, is that 8D has a bear skin rug.
Where to next?
Mayberry Kelhandha
We should probably ask her more about the raining boulders. So it started two days ago, right? Did the goblins and wolves come with the boulders or were they before/after? Does she know where the others went? That sort of thing.
Aeshuura
|
She doesn't think that they were related. More like the goblins were scavengers coming to pick the bones of the town. When the boulders came raining down from the clouds, something tore the Nightstone from the town square! She didn't dare peek out and instead, hid in her room, hoping whatever it was that attacked would go.
When she awoke the next morning, she saw a few villagers running out of the gates. As she packed up her stuff, she looked out again and she saw the goblins streaming in!
Eeerie
Eerie has gathered the bodies of the goblins and wolves and is acting out some sort of...play? Using them as puppets. Though, you are pretty sure that in this play one of the wolves ate a goblin as Eerie has cut open the wolf's stomach and stuffed a goblin. In order to fit the goblin however, he definitely removed the innards as there is a pile off to a side.

I'm not sure, but I would be willing to bet that their tracks should be easy enough to follow, even after the last couple of days. I think someone local would know... But there are still goblins about, I am sure of it!
Kella thinks to herself for a bit, I think someone might yet live, in the castle! The last two nights, I have noticed that light comes from one of the windows! It cannot be too many, for I never see multiple lights, just the one. But the bridge to the castle was smashed by the boulders and it would take quite a jump to get across...
Aeshuura

She seems a little taken aback, but smiles and shows off her little pet, Sorry, Slither is a little shy. A friend got him for me. People are sometimes... uncomfortable around snakes, so I usually keep him close. Say hi, Slither.
She holds up her hand and the head of a tiny snake, pokes out of her sleeve, but doesn't emerge fully, flicking his tongue out a couple of times. Sorry, he's a little shy...
As if remembering that you asked another question, Oh, and no. I managed to avoid getting myself hurt...

"We will be going into the castle. You're welcome to come with us. You seem capable enough. But, if you want to go, we didn't see any goblins from the way we came. As far as I know, it will be safe for you."
He then goes through the stuff the group found to see if he can use any of it.

None of you know much about the Nightstone, but rumor had it that it was a ward against dragons.
I certainly cannot make that jump, but if my crossbow can help, you have it, Kella says with an uneasy smile, I fear that I am not much help up close...
So I am guessing you are heading toward the castle. Are you going in a search pattern to check each building or heading straight to the castle?
Eeerie
Almost completely covered in blood, Eerie hangs his head, "Eet was full of intrigue...a missing goblin at the party..." Though his energy is a bit muted you are pretty sure his manic smile still remains. He quietly follows the party in their endeavors.
Mayberry Kelhandha
Definitely clear as we go. insight: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 May trusts this woman's story and thinks she has nothing but good intentions in rescuing whomever may be at the castle. Let's head toward the castle, but check around to see if anyone else needs help, or if any nasties need taken out.

As you head toward the castle, a whole section of the farmhouse to your right (4B) has been collapsed in by one of those boulders. As you peek in, it looks like the house has been ransacked a while ago, and been left alone.
To your left, mounted above this building’s entrance is a circular blue shield emblazoned with a stylized golden lion: the symbol of the Lionshield Coster, a trading company. (9) The door to the trading post hangs open.
The trading post consists of a 20-foot-square store and a 10-foot-by-20-foot side room containing storage shelves and a cot. Inside, most things have been broken, but you can find almost any item in the Adventurer Item section of the PHB worth 10 gp or less. (This is in the Treasure subheading, so if there is anything that you need, you can get it here before moving on.)
Further left is another farmhouse with fields of potatoes and turnips. (4D) The house has been looted and there is not much to find there, other than a couple of minor personal effects.
As you continue South, there is the windmill on a hill to your right (10) and another farmhouse to your left (4G) with a pair of goblins playing what seem to be a blind form of tag, as they are both wearing pumpkins on their heads, running through a squash patch! They do not seem to see you, so again, surprise round.
Are you guys going to do an entire perimeter run, or hit what is between the square and the castle first and come back for the rest?
Dalron Cleric of Ilmater
I would like to get rid of the goblins first then do the perimeter run before the castle. But I will do what the party wants.
Does Kella have a pack, like for someone who is escaping an attack?
Aeshuura
|
Sorry, Snow, I missed your post!
@Dalron, yes, she does have a pack and indeed looks like she was a traveler visiting and it is all packed up ready to go.
By the way, what did you do with the unconscious goblin?
Sliver.
This is what happens when I go to sleep. Sliver wanted to question the goblin. To see if we can find out who directed them to attack here, if they were looking for anything specific, if they planned more attacks, and where is their lair. But in the end, it dies.
