For your profiles, please put these in your race.
[ spoiler=Attributes]Control , Fitness , Presence , Daring , Insight , Reason [ /spoiler]
[ spoiler=Disciplines]Command , Security , Science , Conn , Engineering , Medicine [ /spoiler]
I put extra spaces at the beginning to break the text. You can just copy and edit that.
When we are all ready, I'll post a Captain's log to get the mission started, but if anyone wants to post something before that just to get into character, feel free.

I think I just about dictated myself raw, but here's my new character. :-) The background is a little vague, but I hope it works for now. I'll fill in more details as the RP progresses. :-)

I picked up mind meld at creation but was also wondering how he would be able to get the nerve pinch and level as well.

"Leveling" is...weird in this game.
I don't have my book in front of me, but you don't get XP or anything like that. Instead, you get "milestones." A character is eligible for a normal milestone after any story where they either use their Values, challenge their Values, or sustain an Injury. This normal milestone can be used to tweak the character - swap out a Focus for a new Focus, increase an Attribute by 1 but lower another one by 1, etc. I believe it can also be used to generate Determination, and should be flavored as a way to call back to previous episodes.
Every few stories, the GM can state that enough has happened that there is a spotlight milestone up for grabs. The players decide amongst themselves who gets it, and add this to their spotlight milestone count. This can be used to tweak the character even more - I believe this can be used to trade out Talents, for example - but it's still lateral adjustment.
Depth adjustment only comes once you've earned enough spotlight milestones to qualify for an arc milestone. I believe the initial number is 2, but it could be 3 - again, I don't have my book in front of me, and I've only played enough to see one spotlight milestone handed out. This is where you can add Foci, Talents, etc.
It's worth noting also that some of these milestones can be used to improve either the Supporting Cast, or the ship itself. So, if you don't see a place where adjusting your character makes sense, we can always look at improving the ship or our transporter chief or whatever.

Ben's numbers are now built. I need to go back and rewrite his appearance and background, but that's the easy stuff now.
As it happens, he actually held the rank of Commander over a decade ago - turns out that doing something that's just on this side of a war crime is bad for your career. The Bastion isn't the only thing being hauled out of mothballs due to the Dominion War.

Misroi pretty much has the right of it. If you want those racial talents like Vulcan Nerve pinch or Mind Meld, you should probably buy them during character creation. The example build of Spock, for example, only has 4 Talents, 2 of which are Nerve Pinch and Mind Meld. This is the series Spock, not the movies Spock, who has clearly had some long term upgrades.
There is a different version of character advancement written by the designer of the game on the Modiphius message boards. We could use that, but with the pace of PbP we aren't going to advance all that much.

A couple more thoughts:
As far as an NPC captain, my plan for playing that will be to listen to you guys for most of the command decisions and go with the will of the group. There will be times when I'll use the cantankerous elder to cause conflict. I hope that makes sense. As players, I'll try to go in the direction the party wants to go. As characters, I'll try to create some tension with a generation gap.
It occurs to me that the crews from the shows tend to have some intersections in the past for some of the characters. Anyone want to make any pre-existing connections with each other?
The captain will be Jonas Clayton, a hale 86 year old. Retired for 15 years. He is a by the book career officer, the opposite of Kirk in every way.
Finally, for book keeping purposes, most people have their Attributes and Disciplines in their headings. Please also put your backstories in your profiles. I'll be mining those for ways to connect you to various stories.
I'm going to go through everyone's "paperwork" this weekend and make some notes and maybe suggestions. I hope to get things rolling on Monday.

Given the year we are playing in, I've been assuming late-DS9 style: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Starfleet_uniform_(2370s)
As for connecting with other characters, my character has been only a short time out of the Academy, but he could have met/befriended anybody there or on a cadet assignment. And, there's always Bajor during or slightly after the occupation.
Benjamin Takezo
I concur with the good doctor - placing us in the Dominion War makes it DS9/Voyager uniform standards, one of the best of the collection. I mean, it's no movie era reds, but at least it's not Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The less said about those uniforms, the better.

I really want to know the history between Q and Guinan. They clearly don't like each other, to the point where Guinan was ready to tear Q apart with her bare hands if she had to.
I'd love for Picard to delve into that, but I think that might be beyond the scope of the show.
Finam Galyn
My wife wants to think that Picard will just be him at his vineyard and old friends coming to visit and reminisce about old times. Every episode is a flashback to TNG, lol.
Gareb th'Chiaqis
I'd love him teaching at the Academy or coming in to do a lecture. Last we heard of O'Brien was he was going to teach at the Academy, it'd be great to have him back as a supporting or reoccurring character. You could have an episode about something that happened to Picard during the dominion war and him O'Brien trying to find out what's going on.
We wont get it but I'd have loved an episode of Data and the Doctor from Voyager meeting.
Picard going to Starfleet Command/Academy sometimes would be great for set ups to see characters from different series interacting with each other. Not as a constant thing but if there is a good story!

Hey just a heads up because I see a lot of posts that I haven't had a chance to read yet. One of my other games that I'm running is having some difficulty that is eating up a lot of my bandwidth for PBP. So if I'm silent that's the reason
Benjamin Takezo
Jok'kem: Same way you put spoilers in normal posts on the boards. Start with the [.spoiler] tag, and close with the [./spoiler] tag - removing the leading periods, of course.
Gareb: I was hoping that the Picard show would be all about the admiralty, and that it was a "walk n' talk" like an Alan Sorkin vehicle, even though I knew the likelihood was nil.

WARNING - MINUTAE AHEAD
Just looking at the Constellation bridge diagram, and figuring out where everyone would be at. The captain is obviously sitting center chair, and Finam is almost certainly behind him at tactical. I believe that ops is the port-side chair in front, and conn is the starboard-side, so I'd be on port, and Kestra would be starboard. The doc and T'Karra wouldn't normally be on the bridge, since they'd be in medbay or main engineering respectively. I've no idea where the XO is supposed to sit, though - probably one of the unnamed seats in the back. Likewise, one of those is probably the science station, so that's probably Gareb's post.
GM SuperTumbler
Sorry for the delay in getting all of that up and running. I imagine some of this will be challenging since we are all new. I should have plenty of time to check in and post this week so we can keep things moving.
Anyone have thoughts about casting for our gruff Captain? I keep seeing and hearing Liam Neeson.
Also, it was resolved, I think, but for uniforms we are wearing the black with the colored shoulders. Not to the grey shouldered movie jackets yet.
Benjamin Takezo
As I was looking into the exact wording of the Prime Directive, I did stumble across this. Might be useful for future stuff!
Lt. Commander Kestra
Didn't he play for the Dolphins?
We could do a kind of ST2 thing where my ex husband and daughter might be aboard the ship.
Finam Galyn
Hey all just dropping in to say I'm going to drop this game. Me and my wife are in process of buying a house which is eating up a lot of time I would devote to PbP. Since this is my newest game it's the easiest one to opt out of. Have fun!
