This is the Out-of-Character, Out-of-Game, and Discussion Thread for Sovereigns & Aces.
This thread is where players can ask questions about the game, get to know each other, and clarify events/rolls.
The following rules should be followed when posting in this thread, the recruitment, or the game:
- This is a game. Do not let personal feelings, tempers, or situations hinder the other players (or yourself) from having a good time.
- If you are going to be absent from posting for more than a day or two, please post here so your character can be controlled as an NPC or by another player. Life happens, it's okay!
- If your character has not posted in a week without notice, I will remove the character from the game, and if necessary seek replacement. Exceptions will be made for emergencies or uncontrollable absences.
- Know your character. Give thoughts as to your character's actions and justifications for those actions. Get inside your character's head.
- Try not to metagame. If you are tempted to read a Spoiler Tag not pertaining to your character or character knowledge, please don't act upon that information. Cheating players will be asked to leave and their characters killed off.
- Everybody makes mistakes, even the DM. Try to cut myself and players some slack when we screw up, and we shall extend the same courtesy to you.
- Have fun! If you aren't enjoying playing, then what is the point?

About Sovereigns & Aces:
It is my hope that Sovereigns & Aces be a very fun campaign, with very well-rounded and detailed characters. I apologize if anything I have said or listed has come off as overbearing or hard-nosed, I just want everyone to have a good time. If anybody ever has Any questions, please feel free to ask me. It's what I am here for! Thank you!
DragonBlood472 |
Welcome, everyone, to Sovereigns & Aces! Please take a moment to introduce yourself to everyone, look over the rules and maps, and familiarize yourself with everything. If you have any questions, please ask! I will be starting the game in a few days once everybody is ready!
I have been gaming/DMing since I was 13, though I'm certainly not claiming to be the best. I enjoy humor, banter, intelligence, and creativity in my games.
If you have need to get ahold of me outside of paizo, there are a variety of ways to contact me: Quip's Facebook, dragonblood472@yahoo.com, or 740-228-2982. If you're going to add me anywhere or text me, please let me know who you are!
I hope everybody is going to have a lot of fun with this game!

Hello everyone, I'm Twilightrose, Twi for short. I've been on Paizo for a few years now and play in several campaigns. I'm not the best when it comes to mechanics, but I make do. The persona I take on for each of my characters is what really does it for me, and it's why I role play. I'm very big on developing my character, making them as real for me as possible. I tend to become emotionally attached to my PC's and through them, other characters as well.
A bit about me: I'm 30, a single mother, and have recently graduated college and am currently looking for work. That being said, I have more free time on my hands then I know what to do with most days while the wee one is at school. Luckily I have Paizo :D

Yo everyone, I'm happy to be here! I'm Spacefighters, and I'm in Ohio too! I'm a chef, my hours are weird and I work nights so my posting can be weirdly erratic but I'm good for several posts a day, except on Monday's and Tuesday's (which are my weekend) where I slow down.
I'm big on roleplay and character development as well, and this seems like the perfect game for that, looking forward to it!
Illyri |
I'm Sawyer. I'm 22 and am transitioning from college in Florida to grad school in California(possibly, still waiting on answers elsewhere). I have been playing pathfinder for a couple years now, but have been playing rpgs since highschool. I have only started doing PbP's in the last few months or so.
I'm comfortable in both roleplay heavy games and rollplaying games, but my games IRL as of late have been pretty heavy on the rollplaying, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty in some roleplaying. This is a very different character than what I normally play, so this will be interesting.
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
Morning all! Antariuk here, from good ol' Germany, the north-western coast to be exact. I am 31, and working in project and logistics management. My account on paizo.com isn't exactly new, but until RPG Superstar 2014 started I posted only rarely (I dropped out in the 1st round, but got some positive responses. Next year!). I play a lot of Pathfinder, still have dozens of 3.5 supplements, and enjoyed a smashing of different system (Shadowrun, Numenera, The Dark Eye, Dungeonslayers, etc.) in my RPG "career" of just 6 years.
I am both interested and comfortable with either heavy roleplaying or beer and pretzel style. Since I am the GM of a real-life Eberron game, I am really looking forward to enjoy this setting as a player for once.
Alex Mack |
Good Morning. Another Goblinoid from Germany here! If memory serves correct I've been playing RPGs for about 20 years with a semi long hiatus in my early twenties. Ever since I discovered PbP around 7-8 years ago I've been hooked. I consider myself somewhat of an optimizer but have learned to play nice with others and actually enjoy role playing but could never bring my self to play a mechanically weak character.
I'll be getting my profile up this evening but now it's time for work.
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
A fellow countryman! We should switch all goblin dialogue from here on to German, sounds weird enough to be Dhakaani and lets us banter and plot against everybody... just kidding. Or not?
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
I have seen foreign languages all over the place, albeit mostly as one-liners and other short expressions. But I wasn't serious :)
On a different note, I read up a little bit on Port Krez in the second Lhazaar Dragonshard article. Looks like we're dealing with the Cloudreavers, yes?

Port Krez belongs to Cloudreavers, a group of dwarves, half-orcs, and orcs, so it isn't uncommon to see misfit characters in this part of the Isles. How much you will be dealing with them remains to be seen!
Alex, the DM of most of my other Play-by-Posts is German and frequently posts in his native languages all the time. Since there is nothing stopping you from writing in Goblin or Mabran, the same goes for real world languages too!
I'm hoping that my insomnia will help compensate for various time zones. My postings will be light on weekends since I work at the theater, but I am mostly free throughout the week.
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
Same here, I can post from work at weekdays, and even when I am going out on the weekends I am rarely away for a long period of time, so post frequency should be ok (divine interventions notwithstanding).
Alex Mack |
I usually play with folks from the states. That being said I've been in enough games where time zone differences were a big issue and I subsequently dropped out. I'm at a computer most hours of the day but tend to sleep 7-8 hours. If during that time frame people do most of their posting things get problematic if games move very fast.
As to Background how did Dhratatak make it from the remote shore of a nameless Lhazar Island to Port Krez?
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
Well, with his background he might have accepted a job for House Thuranni? With their new base in Regalport they are present in the region. Or he got hired by the Wayfinder Foundation since they have this whole arctic exploration quest going on? The Principalities may be far away from Sharn but have more "friendly" ports closer to the arctic circle than Khorvaire's west, so...
Or he just sneaked into any random vessel the old-fashioned way, and jumped off board in Port Krez :)

I think I'd prefer something along those lines as after all currently he is still an Agent of Breland and wouldn't really want to commit himself to working for someone else. However he has a new friend advising him otherwise...
Alistair Creed |
I would love to see some Blood of Vol/Emerald Claw action. Alistair's old master being a contemporary/rival of theirs, that would keep Alistair interested in the hunt long after he gained his Circle entrance fees.
Also, the only other Eberron game I've played ended after a tpk from a Lords of Dust member, and I lust for revenge.
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
Yeah, Lords of Dust are always appreciated. Emerald Claw is so typical over the top villainy, I'd be surprised (and sad) to not see them. Since Dagruun is mostly concerned with itself and the immediate neighbors, I'd be fine to go without meeting some old "friends" right now. I would however love to see some Khyber connection, Cults of the Dragon Below with Pirates sounds very tasty, since all this cloak and dagger stuff would go very much against Chierak's code of honor. Not that he is against sneaking around every now and then, but fighting from the shadows? The horror.
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
His last assignment was a desaster, so he's happy to delay his return? Or his current assignment is long-term, and maybe Dratatak is just following his mark around the world, blatantly disregarding any kind of restrictions of his original assignment, so now he's in the Principalities - and lost his mark?
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
"Shiny? SHINY? Another of those nonsense chaat'oor words, most likely applying to heirlooms and relics of the dar. I'd rather die with honor than urging anyone to 'hunt' for the last remains of the glorious Dhakaani Empires!"
Alistair Creed |
"Whooboy, it's gonna be great trapped ona boat with this guy around. Those 'relics' are gonna do us a lot more good than they did your empire. And if yer gonna speak common, then speak common pal."
Chierak of the Ghaal'dar |
"You sound like one of those Brelanders from that abomination of a city you built on top of Ja'Shaarat, who would sell his own parents for some coin. As for your precious common tongue, my language is older than the entirety of your race's presence here, human, and you're using so many bastardised Dhakaani words I'm surprised you didn't grow some proper fur by now."
This is great :)
Alistair Creed |
"Ha, you Goblins love talkin' about the past, but I guess to the victor go the spoils right Gal-Dur? Yeesh, I could use some fur, it's freezing in here..."
:)
Alistair Creed |
I'm excited to get started!
However, I couldn't help but notice that I'm the only level one character. While I' perfectly fine with that, I actually rather like the different levels angle, I imagine constantly being the lowest level character is going to be kinda frustrating. Would there be a chance to earn bonus xp to catch up to the level 2's?
Alistair Creed |
Mixed at the beginning sure, his point was that it's rare for people of the same skill to meet up, but after facing the same challenges things tend to even out. I knew what I was walking into when I rolled that 1, I was just curious.

Yeah but he also made it clear that we wouldn't level up at the same rate. *Shrugs*

You'll have plenty of meat shields to stay behind. At least Chierak and I are melee. And Micha's badger presumably. Don't know about alex's character. And you'll level up to two in no time.
Illyri |
Your saves don't quite look right. Your fort save should be 3 at the very least. 5 if it is your good save. And will should be a 2 (3-1).
Dharatatak |
Dhratatak is no meat shield sadly. This is qute the problem as his damage output can be rather impressive making him an attractive target. Me thinks he's gonna have to use very Rogueish combat tactics.

Poppy will primarily protect Micha, of course, but definitely engages in battle with all the ferociousness a wolverine can muster :D

I'm on a plane tonight, so maybe not now. Tomorrow I'll have plenty of time.
