Well that's good. I just checked my chronicle and I have a check mark on Debt of Cyphers, so does that mean we saved the hostage?
Played this at PaizoCon and I think I was in the restroom when we finally attacked her, so I missed a round or two of combat.

Well, it looks like I won't be joining you all for Part III of this game. I'm at KublaCon right now with my son, waiting for our PFS session to start, and the only table that had two slots open for walk-in play was Part III of this series. Rather than send my 12-year-old off to play by himself, when the whole point of today was to play together, I've opted to bail on you guys for the next scenario and play it with a different character today. Sorry about that.
I'm bummed about it, as I enjoy this group and Sior's DM'ing a lot, so I hope we can reconnect down the road. I will of course finish this scenario with you.
Edit: Never mind! 2 spots opened up in a Master of the Fallen Fortress game, so Prothero will stay through this whole series with you, if you'll have him. Rather than deleting my post, I thought I'd leave up the nice things I said about you all.

Ha I just rolled a 20 for the boon in another game.
Anyone still have an unused Boon from the last Gameday? I could really use that arrow option.

![]() |

By the 'arrow option', do you mean the one that lets you buy smaller batches of magical ammunition? I have that one but had forgotten all about it - it would make a lot of sense to apply it to Prothero.
So, if that's the one you mean - yes, I've got it, but I don't think I want to trade it...sorry.

Why would you even bring it up if you're not interested in trading it?

![]() |

I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to offend. You reminded me that I had it, and it occurred to me that it would be a good boon to apply to Prothero. I was sort of thinking out loud, as it were.
I didn't mean to be a jerk about it, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. I guess in fairness I should ask what boons you might have to offer, in case there is something I'd want to trade it for.

![]() |

I wasn't offended. I actually started my response with LOL but it got erased when I quoted your post instead of a flat response.
I'm not offering anything special other than the fact you'd get to choose which of the four boons you'd want because I haven't picked it.
Honestly, I wouldn't trade away that boon if you have an archer.

![]() |

Okay, glad to have that cleared up. I actually already have a boon from this gameday, from rolling a 20 on the boon roll in another game, so I think I'll stick with the arrow boon for Prothero.
Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the damn loadstone.

![]() |

Well, if I somehow get another one, I'll be happy to hand it off. They're a funny set of boons. Boons seem to get more and more limited as time goes on.

![]() |

@Sior
So it's obvious the stone picked up by Prothero is a loadstone of some sort. Obviously someone like Borax, in addition to the clerics, would know magic items can be cursed and how the process works. So can Borax reasonably infer that the stone is cursed and Pro will need a remove curse to be rid of it?

![]() |

So, it seems like our options are to do something with the sarcophagus, which would make Sior quite happy, or explore elsewhere, right?
Sior, what's the thing on the south side of the sarcophagus walkway? Is there an exit out of this area other than the secret door?

![]() |

The thing in the south is a ladder to get to the raised level the sarcophagus is on. So no, no other exit.
I can see the ladder on the map, but south of that there's something else. It looks like a couch, and maybe it's not significant, but I wanted to be sure.

![]() |

Sior - do we have any indication how many questions we get, as speak with dead has a limit based on level? The journal seems to have had lots of questions, but it wasn't necessarily a one-time session.

![]() |

I'm asking how we figure out how to cure Darvik and/or permanently defeat the Haunt. OOC I know it takes positive energy, but not sure how we locate the focal point.

![]() |

Not a criticism, just a current observation. I imagine I feel exactly as our characters would as we explore a place we've been told to seek out only to find random bodies, a cheeky elemental, a less than helpful scholarly corpse, and an eerie obelisk. These seem like lots of disparate pieces and we don't know what the puzzle even looks like.

![]() |

It would make sense that the switch pointing to the left would make the hallway sinister.
I tell you that's confusing. It's like that scene in the Holy Grail when they come across the cave where the person writes "aaaaahhhhhhh" into the wall as they were dying.

![]() |

Or he figured this out before he snuffed it. Note, however, how he only mentions one switch.

@Group...
Okay, I'm trying to make sense of this.
1. We found two switches. One in the carving which was to the left. Another one which was to the right.
2. The note reads thus:
With the inaccuracies of the wall carvings, it was easy to spot the switch to deactivate the trap. It would make sense that the switch pointing to the left would make the hallway sinister. I must keep this information to myself for now. Though I trust the other Scarab Seekers, Ven seems to have been pulling them away from me. Kiras, Rosarra, and especially Asha. I must keep this to myself if ever I need to make use of it. Soon the gems will be in our possession and back to the Decemvirate for whatever purposes they choose.
I read this as Thanian found the switch in the carvings and turned it to the left and died.
So this is confusing. If he knows left is bad, why is the one switch we know he found to the left?
I'm obviously missing something.

![]() |

Why are you so certain that the one he found was the one pointing to the left?

Because you posted this...
Borax sees a switch hidden within the carvings. It is currently switched to the left. The purpose of this switch is unknown.
And then this...
With the inaccuracies of the wall carvings, it was easy to spot the switch to deactivate the trap. It would make sense that the switch pointing to the left would make the hallway sinister.
So unless I'm missing something, the switch in the carvings is the one he found and pointed to the left.

![]() |

But there are two switches in the carvings. We only found the second switch after searching again. So if he searched and found one, he might have stopped searching and thus failed to find the second switch.

![]() |

Okay, it wasn't clear to me that the second switch was in the carvings. It's also still not clear to me which one was easier to find. Our first search found the first switch turned to the left. Not sure how we are suppose to know which one Thanian found.

![]() |

I also wrote
On a second search, the party discovers... another switch! This one, however, points to the right. Borax's analysis seems to connect these switches to something in the hallway but is unsure as to what.
Perhaps I should have been more clear that it was also contained within one of the inaccurate carvings?
Teric, bless you, sir. Bless you.

![]() |

I think it's more that the first switch we found was turned to the left. I think it's a natural assumption that would have been the first and only switch Thanian found.

![]() |

Defah watches the trio quietly; especially the two who aren't doing all the talking. If they're lying, those two might be the ones who give it away.
This makes me laugh. I was playing a PFS scenario where the GM was pissed off that I was using Sense Motive on the one of the NPCs. But he was stone-walling me on my SM checks so I posted that my character was going to ask the crew the same questions since I knew there would be no way that they were spec'd out to lie convincingly.
He essentially kicked me out of the game after that.

![]() |

@GM,
Correct me if I'm wrong, Darvik, but I think Darvik meant to move around the back side of the allip, but not in front?
