Hey guys,
Just to let you know, I will be heading out on vacation tomorrow afternoon (26th) through October 12th. I'll be globe-trotting and won't be dragging my computer along. I was hoping to wrap up this battle before I left, but I doubt that will happen. I'll continue updating the fight til I leave but then we'll be on hiatus until I return.

Jak's not a healer, guys... I can only do it a couple of times, so we need to find a better solution for this fight. That thing seems to be able to hit us pretty easily while we're struggling to put a dent in it.
We need to either switch tactics or consider a retreat. I'd still like to see what affect Zke's bombs could have, but that means people have to fall back to allow it or risk taking the damage themselves.

When Lyrica committed to going for her armor and you guys headed for the house, I started a round-by-round clock for all of you. Given the time that has passed and the amount of game minutes it will take Lyrica to don medium armor and then the rounds it will take her to reach you moving at her armor-reduced speed... Well, I wouldn't rely on her arriving in the nick of time.

Lyrica Strom |

Have a good time, Stormy. We'll see you when you get back. Guys, I'm sorry I took the armor off for the funeral. I try to be in character and it didn't make sense for Lyrica to wear her armor for such an occasion. I should know by now that with Stormy running the campaign, I should learn to sleep in armor.

Lyrica Strom |

Hi guys, I'm still around, but I want to let you know, in case I get my armor on in the next few days, that I will be away Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are going for a hike up into the White Mountains and will not be back until Sunday night.

Lyrica Strom |

I am eager to return to the game with or without my armor, but the timing is rather poor. Tomorrow I am heading off to Carnage on the Mountain where I will be playing Pathfinder Society all weekend long! Perhaps early next week things can return to normal for Lyrica. Remind me to never take off my armor again!

Apologies on the 'real time' lag. I didn't think this battle would take up so much calendar time. I prefer to run combats at a far more sprightly clip, to be honest. It seems we've got a bit of a momentum issue and I'm debating what to do about that.
I don't think I'd call throwing on armor a 'character' trait so much as a tactical choice. :) A character driver would be a personal or professional consideration such as "As a Pally, do I rush to defend the innocent even if I'm dressed in my skivvies?" Unfortunately, putting on armor fully takes 4 minutes (40 rounds) not including the time getting to and from the Inn. So unless this turned into an epic slug-fest, you were likely to miss it.

Hey Zeke, I'm very sympathetic to your reasons for slow posting. I was speaking in general about most, if not all, of us. So please don't feel I'm pointing a figure at you specifically. I certainly haven't been posting at a whirlwind pace either and my vacation and disappearances certainly haven't helped any.

I think we should quickly inform Father Galt of our findings, then go investigate one of the other fields, but I disagree with going to the mayor's fields first. I think we should go to the mayor's last. I'd vote for going to any of the others instead of the mayor's, but if it's a consensus I'll go.

stormraven |

Well the OOC is designed for you to express your opinions... so good job there. ;)
I try to stay out of the way of your decision making but I will say that investigating the fields is a reasonable choice, as is checking out the doll angle, as is the rather inspired idea of taking another run at Victahana.
I am going to be throwing in a potential twist to your plans. You have uncovered enough information to date to earn a modifier on an earlier search result which reveals another piece of the puzzle.

stormraven |

No worries, Zeke. Jump in where you wish. I left your presence vague to give you a chance to slip in where-ever you want... so if you are with either of the two groups - great. But if you'd rather inspect the fields or seek out Victahana - knock yourself out.

I am really tempted to smite evil on this demon and try to bring it down. However for a second level paladin, this appears suicidal. The SR17 prevents most spells from damaging it. The DR 10/Cold Iron makes it so nobody else can damage it. The damage this creature does will take us down in no time. Somebody please talk me out of this idea.

Are you familiar with nightcrawler from the X-Men?
The Faceless Demon can Grab as part of its claw attack. A successfully grappled person is subject to the Demon's D-Door or Plane Shift ability with no save. Once grabbed the Faceless Demon can vanish with a victim and deposit them on one of several alternate planes of existence, including any layer of the Abyss.
This dude can "nightcrawler" us to the Abyss, a Plane composed entirely of Fire, etc. Whatever he wants. NO SAVE. You will hit him once (if you beat his initiative roll), he'll deposit you in a realm with no breathable atmosphere, and then wear our skins for fun. Please don't attack him.
That good enough? ;-)

Here's what I'm thinking, and what I may propose after seeing Black's reaction to my last post.
None of us want to sell our souls and confine ourselves to the abyss. But this dude is owed one year of a "soul" for his doll, right? What if we each give him a portion of our essence that makes us "heroes", "favored by the gods", etc (In game--our remaining hero points and ability to get them) for 75 days (could do all of us at once for 75 days, or one of ours at a time cycling every 75 days--the latter is probably better for both us and Black). That amounts to longer than a year, it's something that he can't get access to, and it's a lot more attractive than Tull and Trannyth.
In exchange, we have him leave Tull and Trannyth and Albridge for good, never to return. We also throw in that he never interferes, directly or indirectly, with Dies Drear. We might also be able to talk him into letting us keep the prosperity trinket (in which case we keep it and bring it back to the Drear).
The least valuable of those things is Tull and Trannyth--they can reap what they've sown as far as I'm concerned, but we might as well ask.

I'm still not convinced that Black is owed anything beyond what his contract stated. He sent a doll to collect, it killed more than (we believe) is in the contract, and it got destroyed in the process.
Black over-reached, and his collector got crunched. Whatever time, effort, and cost he put into the doll isn't our affair or problem. If anything, the breach of contract is on his end, meaning he's the one who owes.
Now, i'm guessing he's going to argue that point, but he's going to have to produce the contract to prove it.

As for bartering with our "heroicism" or our part in the prophecy... I think the prospect of that si as foolish on our behalf as it was of those in the current deal.
Yes, the good thing to do is to help Albridge save their elders if possible. But it's also reckless to trade on our own our own freedom to do so, because we have a town of Drearians that's in just as bad a situation back home who are also depending on us. Giving up our freedom, soul, heroicism, parts in the prophecy (or worse, letting what we know to be manipulative evil begin to dictate our role in the prophecy) seems like a terribly reckless thing to do.
