A new action is available Interceptor Dc 16 acro. You place your self in between incoming arrows and the fey. You need well you don't know how many successes you need cause you still haven't found them...

The woods suddenly grow quiet as the cries of the fey cease. In the east the sky grows still darker. Almost as if night is comming. Suddenly the tang of a tiny bow string out like the note of a harp clear as a bell in the clearing. A fey cries out one last time as it dies. The watchers have struck you must find them soon.

While the others seem to focus on the new threat, Grimgisli remains focused on the problem at hand, though as the tiny fey's cries die down he switches to trying to rescue the fey he knows about, finding one and returning it to his fellows at the base of the tree.

I enjoy different kinds of challenges. While (mechanically) this reeks of the horribly implemented skill checks from D&D4th Ed (let's chuck dice for a while until you either succeed or fail), this has a MARVELOUS story element to it that makes it make sense while obviously setting up more story bits for us to get prepared to work through. Good story can make some of the worst mechanics acceptable, at least for a little while.

Honestly I cribbed this from lucent who runs the ruins of pathfinder games here on the boards he cribbed it from 4e. And honestly you guys can fail this or could have ingored it. If the dice would cooperate you would be a lot better off though lol. Lucent gave me a few tips on how to do this and the dcs the events however are all mine. I ran part of the starter adventure for 4e when I got the box and the books I preordered when it first came out. My groups opinion was that if we wanted to play wow we would go play wow. So I returned the books and haven't looked at it since. Lol.

Question regarding the knowledge arcana check... usually you can't retry a knowledge check. I assume this is the case here? (even though I seem to have tried twice already before I remembered that bit :P) i.e. one shot per character that chooses to check to see if you know what the pulsing is?

This more like watching something and applying principles you know to try and figure the event out and it changes rather a lot from rd to rd so its not technically the same check its why the dc keeps dropping. Also its a special case cause well I said so. More fun this way. I'm glad everyone seems to like it even if they hate the dice bot. Also Morrigan that shot isn't gonna hit and they way this functions you would be better off making a skill check instead would you like to do that? Lots of fey still on the tree....

As you see the tiny attackers dancing about way off in the leaves you wonder hiw it that their bows can reach this far.

I remember also the skill tests from D&D - while it felt 'chunky' to say the least, I wasn't totally against the method of navigating a long duration challenge, as long as there are some sort of descriptive breakdowns during the process.
Example: Crossing a blizzard may require Survival and Fortitude combined together, etc. But the survival part could correspond to a moment when the visibility is greatly reduced, and the Fort when the adventurers are hammered with hail, etc.
Apart from the crappy dice rolls, I am enjoying myself a lot for a couple of reasons: playing a support character is totally new to me, the encounter shows a dynamic of its own [as I can easily picture some of us struggling to get the feys to safety, while being peppered by arrows and stretching the eyesight to understand what the heck is that thing in the horizon], and there is a definite feeling of something being askew [trapped and murdered fey, strange storms, etc] which for me, even without knowing much about the AP, seems to make total sense.

You see with your arcane vision a knot a tangle of magic pulling down on itself ever tighter. The threads are of water, wind, and lightning magics everything needed for a winterstorm. The tangle can not bear much more stress soon it will snap. You realize this its what's causing the pulses. Even though you have little to compare it too it looks like this next pulse will be larger than the last will be happening soon. You also realize that some one on the otherside of that knot must be feeding it for it to be growing like this what should take days normally is happening in moments..... The pulse will occur at the end of turn 10 everyone needs to have some sort of cover by then.... or possibly be flash frozen.

Snkw has begun to fall faster as to the east the sky darkens ominously. The Ice fey still play their tiny harp like bows as an orchestra of deadly precision. The fey on the tree have fallen silent the ones still saveable quintessent as they hoard their strength waiting for rescue. The others dead their blood painting rainbows upon the snow you have turned to slush in your efforts to save those who can be. Many options lay before you which will you choose?

There are too many things happening at the same time, and although it seems the group is not faring bad, Aldiran feels they are too disorganized, ponders for a moment, then puts out - "We need to organize ourselves - Grimgisli on our attackers, me and Dorvren on shelter duty, Alex keep rescuing those fey, Stolen Face and Morrigan keep them alive as best as you can!" - she shouts.
