Wow! That's a good bit of damage!
Alex heads for the trees, swinging at it, continuing to harmonize the bards' song.
Attack!: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20
Extra Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Alex you might want to change your action because Grim killed it Dorvren stapled its body to the tree and the elk is still up also it would have been out of reach from the ground.... it went up into the branches sorry will make that clearer if it happens again. Poor thing grim had it down to one hp on his first hit lol.
Dorvren
We should probably stop the elk, just in case it will warn the others. We don't have to kill it.
Dorvren calls out
Dorvren
Careful Dorvren approaches the Fey and makes sure that it is dead. And se if it carries anything. Then he tries to retrieve his missed bolt
1d100 ⇒ 19 it is destroyed.
Hunter. Want to see to that beast?
Dorvren
We should make snowshoes from the trees.
maybe engineering and survival to get hald movement on the snow? Take 10 for 19 and 18 respectively
Grimgisli
"Yeah, snowshoes would be best. Didn't think I needed to bring any this far South with me. If we're going on, the elk meat would be too much to carry unless we waste most of it. Still a shame to let the animal go, but it is probably for the best."
Grimgisli pulls out his dagger and starts trying to make some improvised snow shoes to share amongst the group.
Untrained Craft check? Survival check? Hand wave?
Dorvren
take 10?
Dorvren
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 if not

Yeah but taking ten would take ten hours. Some else just reroll for alex lol.
You all finish your shoes in various amounts of time during this you notice SF sweating and looking pale. Turns out he has whatever got the gruff northerner and he heads back to town.
Also Aldiran I need a check from you or someone else for your shoes....
Grimgisli
You've confused the Take 20 rule with Taking 10.
Take 20 explicitly takes 20 times as long to do as trying once. Taking 10 does not. Take 20 is "gotta get it right" while Taking 10 is "playing it safe", and quite often can never produce results that are "good enough".
Dorvren
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 for alex
Dorvren
yes. Cautiously. Dorvren reloads his clip
Grimgisli
Yes, agreed, unless anyone has additional preparation they would like to make beyond donning whatever cold weather gear you might have (hopefully done before now) and the make-shift snow shoes. Those were a really good call, BTW.

Yeah I was surprised you guys didn't take time to do it sooner lol. And I just wanted to make sure everyone was ready.
Also just to verify are we just leaving the Elf koed on the ground or finishing it off or what?
The party comes to a small clearing in the trail beyond you can see a small but frozen fast creek. The odd thing though is in the middle of the clearing is apparently lovingly crafted snow man with some sort of blue stone for eyes and black stone shards for upper and lower lower teeth making for what would be rather cruel looking jaws. He apparently has some sort of internal support as his arm is holding up a sign that's says warmbloods turn back your not welcome here.
.Morrigan
Charming...Morrigan states witha wry twist to her mouth. She and Nemein scan the area looking for 'other' sentries that may be watching.
perception Nemein: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Morrigan: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
If it appears the party is alone, she approaches the snowman warily to the range of the spell (60ft) and casts detect magic.
Alexandyr Sindre
Alexandyr tilts his head slightly, switching to his rapier and putting the cold iron away. He too scans the area, not precisely happy with the idea that there are so many creatures not happy with them being here.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Such pretty snow! Alex wants to frolic in it!

Conjuration, illusion, and evocation. Seems to have a Illusion set to trigger if anyone gets within say 20ft or so. (Magic mouth) And something under the snow seems to have been animated. And below that a bit of evocation but obscured because of the more powerful auras on top of it.
You gaze at it with your sight enhanced mysticly as you concentrate you become aware of web of glossamer shadows that stretches out from the snowman to about twenty feet or so. It leads back to a neatly tied and waiting web off illusion that waits for something to trigger that web. Its almost as if it wishes to deliver a message. But far more importantly is the fact that underneath the snow and illusion is an aura of transmutation shining through and staining the illusion like a cathedral window. You can see it something granted the semblance of life through magic. And finally below that a bit of evocation pulsing in time like a drum beat ready to burst forth and break upon those who draw to close.
As always everyone may read if she gives permission.
Dorvren
Spellcraft 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 After using detect magic
Dorvren leaves the elk on the ground. Up to the others if they wants to help it.
A snowman. Seems like it must be a trap.
.Morrigan
Hold! Morrigan exclaims as the auras and a little of their purposes become more clear to her. That thing has been touched with magic. I see an illusion, prob!bly one designed to deliver a message. But there is also something in the snow that is animated and beneath that, an evocation which I can't fully make out.
Yeah, unless the dm objects, in a situation like this where i am making Knowledge checks regarding something we are all aware of, feel free to read anything spoilered to Mrrigan. You would have had to tick her off royally for her not to warn you that a giant evil snowman was about to rip you apart. :)
Dorvren
give Dorvren a chance. eventually he will find out you are a witch and that will be something
Alexandyr Sindre
Alex pauses, not moving any closer. "Yeesh. People are taking all the fun out of making a snowman. I mean, a snowman is supposed to be jolly and fun, followed by hot cocoa or a toddy, not trying to explode your brain from your skull."
The bard rubs his hands together. "I mean, what kind of world are we living in?"
Dorvren
[ooc[ do we need a map dm? [/ooc]
Dorvren
Map is up. Click on MAp Link
Alexandyr Sindre
Alex smiles. "Well, I do have a parlor trick I know that might give us an idea where it activates by an actual person or just something that looks person-like coming to it."
If people agree, he'll use his dancing lights ability and get the vaguely humanoid shape, wait until everyone is ready, and he'll send it over, his own sword drawn. I'll probably be out for a few hours, so if things progress past that...well, DMPC me.
