December 26th Update

Yes, I realize I went from my cap of 6 to 8, but screw it, we're all here to have fun.

Hey, this is kamenhero25 with the Journalist. I adapted an old alias, so I think I'm ready to go.

Rodeo Queen, Former Child Star, Future Doctor.

Here's Javi...

Male Human (Chinese-American)

Loup Blanc here with Wu Zhihao King, Stranger in a Strange Land. Don't love the image, but there aren't a lot of good ones.

Oh, a couple of ideas I have for fleshing out the backstory a little bit.

James runs a small Urbex blog where he posts a lot of photos and write-ups of interesting sites that he hit while exploring New York. After the incident where he ran into a ghost, he's started a sub-section of the blog dedicated to supernatural phenomena. He's also got a couple of buddies from New York who used to explore with him that went to different schools, but he keeps in touch with. One's an engineering major at Carnegie Mellon and the other is a computer science major at New York State. They both also contribute to the blog with stuff from the cities where they're currently living.

Your hero has arrived!

Hello, everyone.

December 26th Update

Right, so if you can post a mini-blurb about your character in your alias just to personalize it and turn it from a sterotype into a person, that'd be great.

We'll start most likely tomorrow as we wait for the stragglers.

Human Journalist | Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/4 | Toughness: 5 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: 0 | Pace: 6

Alright, I added a modified version of the Journalist write-up to James's page. He's sort of a dorky guy who took to the supernatual stuff way too hard and has been exploring urban legends and that kind of thing for years. Runs a blog, has some buddies into the same stuff he is, but not really very into the supernatural angle.

Rodeo Queen, Former Child Star, Future Doctor.

Catalina is hard to miss. She's 5'10" before the hat and boots. Dark hair, pale skin, eyes almost black. She dresses for practicality most of the time, and that means being ready to head out to ride after class. Her looks are quite distinctive, and anybody familiar with her former life will recognize her instantly.

-----

Catalina is not from Texas originally. She is from the furthest place on planet Earth from Texas. Hollywood.

As the daughter of a producer, she got lots of chances to act. Sometimes with names, other times as "Classmate #3". She moved up to one of the supporting characters in a forgettable Disney channel show. But her big break was at 13 for a show called Horse Camp. She was the sidekick/henchgirl to the Mean Girl. Her "acting" was mostly reaction shots and her schtick of being tongue-tied and walking away. But they had a B story where she was friends with the Heroine's sidekick.

But the best part was that it was shot in Montana. She quickly became known as the best rider on the cast, and then became the go-to riding double. She wanted to do her own stunts, but the studio wouldn't allow it. But the stuntmen liked her and let her sneak in for a few shots.

The second season brought a problem. She grew five inches and a cup size over the shooting schedule. That played hell with syndication. They wrote in an accident that had her in casts in a wheelchair and she spent weeks being the object of jokes. She was not asked to come back for the third season.

She spent a year doing support roles in a high school drama, but her heart wasn't in it. She had herself emancipated. In Hollywood this is a common way for teenage actors to get around the shooting limits for minors, so it's a rubber-stamp procedure. And she immediately left for the rodeo circuit.

At first she was known as "Hollywood" and not taken seriously despite having some pretty good scores. It wasn't until the incident that people took her seriously. After that, she had a good enough run to get an athletic scholarship. Of course she knows that this isn't going to be a lifetime thing, but she's found a new goal. She's spent enough time being checked out after getting thrown to see the medical profession. She took to that as much as riding. Enough to know what her third career would be.

Emissary here with the Local! I will write some background, specially focusing on his edges and hindrances as well as personality, between tonight and tomorrow morning!

December 26th Update

That's a good idea. If everyone could put their archeetype in the tagline, would probalby be a helpful guide.

Mine is in the tagline, and fleshed out character details will be done shortly and posted on the alias.

Hi, this is ZenFox42. Sorry for the delay. Will get caught up as soon as possible.

Updated profile (towards the bottom).

For the uninitiated, I have some of a reputation when it comes to Savage Worlds games; my first roll of the game is always amazing. Usually it's just a Raise or two, but every once and a while it gets silly; I've rolled a 45 to hit or a 30-something to damage for my first rolls of the game when they've started with combat.

It's nice to know it's gonna keep going.

Human Journalist | Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/4 | Toughness: 5 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: 0 | Pace: 6

As GM of several of those games, I can confirm that. His first roll in my first Deadlands game was a raise with a shotgun and about 25 damage. Second Deadlands game I GM, he raises to manifest a psionic power on his first round, then uses his second round to roll 25 to hit and 18 damage.

It's like clockwork.

I'm posting this to all of my SW games, I hope the DM doesn't mind...

I’d like to try running a Savage Worlds Necessary Evil (NE) campaign. Executive summary : the PC’s are super-villians, and are Earth’s last defense against a race of aliens that came to visit, wiped out all the Earth’s super-heroes, and are now taking over the Earth.

If you’re interested, please go to Recruitment.

I figured that attempting to blind them would be an Agility Trick. Since my Smarts and Agility are the same, it doesn't really matter though.

Human

Y'know, between his craftyness and scaridy cat attitude... I can't shake the feeling that Matt is real life Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

I need to get myself a talking dog.

Male Human (Chinese-American)

Hey all, posting this in all my games to let people know I'll be away for a few days. My family is headed to camp later today, and I won't have Internet or my computer while I'm there. I should be back and posting Friday afternoon/evening (Eastern Time), but please push the game as needed, botting my character if you need to do so. Thanks!

Activist

DM Default : are you not doing initiative cards? Order of initiative is so important in SW, that someone who goes first all the time has a 10% better chance of winning the fight! Of course, I understand we have a large group...and as long as we're going first, I won't complain too much. :)

December 26th Update

OMG. Paizo had a hiccup right when I finished a usper long post..

Guys...sorry, I'll try and update this by tomorrow. I hate losing posts like this.

Sigh

And to Bryce: yeah, with this many combatants, I decided it'd be easier with block initiative.

Rodeo Queen, Former Child Star, Future Doctor.

Sometimes hitting back will let you recover the long post. And I try to compose long posts in a separate program.

Activist

Or, I hit ctrl-A (select all) and ctrl-C (copy) before I click on Submit (or even Preview) to put everything I've written into the clipboard. Then if Paizo screws up, I can paste it to a Word doc, or into an email to myself, etc.

Buck, you can spend a Benny in between attacks, so you could negate being Shaken and only take 1 wound. You could then try and spend your remaining Benny to soak your last wound, although that puts you at 0 bennies (unless the GM allows you to retroactively roll Spirit to unshake instead of spending a Benny). You could also just try to Soak both wounds, if you wanted. Spending one to negate the first Shaken is perhaps the safest bet, as you guarantee you only have one Wound. You could try to tough it out and soak both Wounds, but you only have a d6 vigor so it's unlikely that'll happen and it's not impossible you won't soak any at all, and then be out a Benny for nothing. Thing is, if you roll well you nullify both Wounds for 1 Benny.

Just figured I'd give some advice, as you're in a bit of a tough spot. I would personally eat the 1 Wound to unshake, if only because your Vigor is average. If you had a d8 or higher, I might say go for the roll as you're unlikely to fail completely. You've got a flat 50% chance of soaking at least 1 wound anyway.

Activist

DM Default - I'm curious about your Grappling rolls.

The roll you made for Jimmy to get away was his first roll after Buck's initial Grappling roll, which should have been his Opposed roll to Buck's initial Grapple. And Jimmy's 9 doesn't beat Buck's 11.

Even if you just gave Buck the initial success, and your roll *was* Jimmy's first attempt to break free, Buck should get an Opposed roll against it.

And, why the -2?

(Also, a sucker punch is a Fighting attack at -4 that can do damage, but can't break free. And breaking free excludes any other actions, like a sucker punch. But I can understand if you were just trying to be descriptive.)

December 26th Update

Yeah....I had a feeling I got the rules wrong too.

Please go easy on me, I'm still learning Savage Worlds as a system.

[--To Explain My Process--]
I couldn't find the rules for grappling, so I improv'd rules mirroring Buck's rolls to grapple as it seemed he rolled vs Jimmy's parry. In hindsight, it doesn't make much sense for grappling AND getting away from a grapple to both predicate only on hitting the parry Target number.

As for the -2, I was trying to incorporate the multiple moves rule, which stipulates every additional action adds a -2 modifier to all moves made. This may not have been needed as well.
[--End--]

So...giving my large mistake, I'll be doing a bit of retconning.

Neanderthal (Jock Subtype) Wounds 0 Charisma:—; Pace: 6; Parry: 6; Toughness: 5

DM,
Given the way you're running initiative, would it be ok for me to swap out the Quick edge for something that can actually be used?

December 26th Update

Well Buck, unfortunately, this is all I had planned for this TEST CASE of ETU Savage Worlds.

Got a feel for the system and how to run it, and saw it to completion.

Thanks everyone for trying this out with me. I do think I'll run a longer term ETU campaign sometime later, but not immediately. If any of you apply for that game, I'll be sure to remember your efforts here.

Male Human (Chinese-American)

Alright, fair enough. Hope you enjoyed it, GM, and I look forward to you running something again in the future.

Activist

Didn't realize that "test case" meant just one scenario, but so be it...

If/when you do decide to run a longer campaign, I hope you'll let us create characters from scratch - having to choose a pre-built PC was the thing I liked least.

Thanks for the game!

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Oh, and please inactivate the game after a couple days to make sure everybody's caught up.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Commoner 2

Thanks for game!

December 26th Update

I'll be making the game inactive within the next few days.
