Finally home after 2 nights in a hotel and back to back 14 hr days at work, (Customer support and cable/telecommunications company)

Still no connection at home. Furthermore, I'll be away, most likely from Friday to Tuesday, probably unable to post for most of it.

The Exchange

M

thanks for the heads up from both of you. I'll keep that in mind before starting anything new or major for the moment.

Cheers

Awesome job on the storytelling of the exorcist. I was completely into it!

Shadow Lodge

I really liked that whole scene, I think you did a great job Wrath.

Male Human Traveler / 8

I agree with the other guys: that exorcism scene was great. Well done, Wrath! It was a pleasure to read and take part in.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

It really was amazingly done

The Exchange

M

thanks for the feedback all. It was a fairly inspiring scene, actually. That made it easy to write in the end. I nearly had to make a much darker ending for Maree there at one stage, but Feldspar pulled through in the end.

Absolutely shattered from marking atm, so gotta head off. Will update tomorrow after work.

Cheers

Shopping Discussion

I suggest we buy a scroll of Lesser Restoration, a scroll of Dispel Magic and some climbing gear (rope, hook, pitons, etc.).

Other suggestions?

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Something that helps with fire resistance? Potions of resist/protection from elements or such. I have a wand of CLW so we should be ok for healing.

Male Human Traveler / 8

My apologies, everyone, for not taking a greater part in the discussion over the weekend. After a long, wet, crazy week I ended up having a four day weekend and spent it largely away from the computer. I'm back now and am committed to posting regularly once again.

As far as equipment goes: Feldspar already has 50' of silk rope but no other climbing gear.

Someone else ought to carry the cure light wounds wand Feldspar has been carrying since he can't even cast spells. I'm not entirely sure how many charges are left on it; I'll go look at the previous posts and see if I can work that out.

I'm thinking we ought to also look into investing in something that'll help the group with stealth, particularly when it comes to the loud, clanging dwarf.

Feldspar is happy to offer 100 of his 150 gp to the group for purchasing group equipment.

Wrath: Feldspar's been rewarded with a magic Warhammer that gives it a +1 (which is awesome, by the way). You also mentioned in the game thread that it glows too. Does it glow constantly or is that something that is activated when used or held?

Also, before leaving Sandpoint for the Thistledown place, Feldspar will be speaking to Father Zantus about having 25 gp sent to the nearest temple of Torag. 15 gp will go to the Sandpoint Cathedral and 10 more will go toward the care of Maree and cleaning up/ fixing her home.

If UM is allowed, you could use a potion of Forced Quiet (level 1 Wiz).

Perhaps Jo'no could get it for his spellbook.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Mikka could carry the wand since it is on a druid's spell list.

Ultimate combat and Ultimate Magic are indeed now available. I bought the PDF's of both books. No firearms though please.

I'm going to try and put some back story in for Tania and Jo'no soon as well. They seem to have missed some of the love that other characters have had recently.

Idrian is getting a story piece tonight with something extra.

I'm still working out a "prize" for our two exorcists as well. I'll throw some ideas out there soon and you lot can discuss it.

Cheers

The Exchange

M

Idrian, the purpose of the gift was to provide you a weapon upgrade for your preferred style. At the time when all the loot was dropping in the catacombs of wrath, not much was coming your way based on build. So, the bow is there to be used. In my home games we house ruled the strength mod on a composite bow to be the maximum it could prvide, rather than the minimum required to use it.

So, if everyone is happy enough to run with that rule, you could use the bow but not at its full capacity. You'd only be getting +1 damage for the strength component rather than the full +3 it can potentially provide. Hosk would refer to it as "growing into the weapon".

Having said that, if you're looking at going a completely different path with Magus in terms of weapon use, let me know your preference and we can modify the gift to suit.

It would certainly suck if I started giving out rewards to folks for the deeds they did that actually made things worse for them :). I prefer to drop loot for people through gifts or deeds when major character arcs are completed. IT provides more of a tie to the game. So on that note, can people drop into the OOC thread at some time and let me know some preferences for gear their characters woul like.

Cheers

Grand Lodge

First, I am very happy with the bow. I hope that was communicated before.

I'm ok with 'growing into the weapon' if the others are too.

I'll still be an archer. I'm just not so sure about prestiging into arcane archer as I get much of what it offers as a magus.

I had planned on crafting my own bow in time, but, as you said, Mauler (the bow) does help to tie me to the game. In fact Idrian has decided to make Sandpoint his home (referring to my backstory). I mean, the place has Shalelu, sure, but she only comes around once or twice a season. With Hosk retiring (I always use his last name for some reason), Sandpoint will have need of a local hunter and trapper. I'm sure Hosk is only going into semi-retirement and probably wouldn't mind some company when hunting while Mauler will be put to stud. He is a hero after all and deserves to be treated well.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

I built Durik as an archer but having not played him extensively yet I don't really know what kind of gear he would most like to see. Most likely his bow with his starknife as a backup, then armor class/saving throw items. Having started with higher wealth he's in a good place for gear right now.

The Exchange

M

no problem Dax, I wasn't upset or anything. It's a bit harder to customise loot on a PbP at times, since I don't have the luxury of sitting and asking you directly. I respect all feedback and welcome constructive advice as it comes. It is a group game after all.

Durik - I was thinking of making your star knife act like a power stone for you since you used it in the ritual as a conduit for holy power. Could store an additional first level spell. Does that sound ok by you?

Feldspar - The hammer only glows when you wield it (you specifically in fact). Not sure about a gift for you yet. I'm looking through the magic gear to find something about the same power level as Durik and incorporate it into your gear. Something defensive since that's really what your roll was in the exorcism.

Mikka - Since we've now really nailed down your back story and goals, your personal thread has some stuff coming up soon. Expect soem gear then.

Jo'No and Tania - When I get a chance to start writing the flashbacks for you two, you'll understand more about your personal threads in this tale. Most likely you guys will have levelled by the time it resolves, so the gift I give at that time will represent that change in power as well. Hope you don't mind the wait.

Cheers

Sounds pretty awesome to me.

Male Human Traveler / 8

Wrath: As I've said before, I love the bonuses you gave to the warhammer. That was great and well threaded into the events of the time. Thanks for the info on the glowing too.

Feldspar could certainly use something that would aid him in defense. He can always use a better AC. But I'm not particularly picky.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Loving the backstory so far looking forward to everything coming.

Great fun so far. I don't want to point too much, but Tania fancies herself a meleeist, even though she's but a bard... A boost on surviving a full attack would be most welcomed.

List of group shopping:

-scroll of Forced Quiet for Jo'no (25 gp)
-extra 50' of hemp rope (1 gp)
-grappling hook (1 gp)
-hammer (5 sp)
-20 iron spikes (1 gp)
-20 pitons (2 gp)
-climber's Kit (50 gp)
-scroll of Lesser Restoration (150 gp)
-scroll of Dispel Magic (375 gp)

For a total of 605 gp!

Leaving 145 divided by 5 = 29 gp each!

All agreed?

Male Human Traveler / 8

Looks like a good list to me.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Fine by me.

Sounds good.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Heading to Fargo at 0630 CST Saturday to play a Warmachine tournament, will return ~2300 CST Saturday.

Also congratulations to Wrath on his anniversary.

The Exchange

Durik and Feldspar, I just realised I never formalised the story reward you two recieved for defeating the demon posessing Maree.

Durik - Starknife acts like a level 1 powerstone, allowing you one more use of a 1st level spell per day (must be preselcted though). In essence you can channel a known power through your weapon, but have to attune its matrix in the morning (or whatever time it is you regain your daily power use)

Feldspar - Your shield has slowly been taking on the runic design of a hammer and anvil, Torag's symbol of defense. As a devout follower of the god, you are not surprised by this type of miracle at all. However, now that you are engaging a traditional hated enemy of the dwarves, Torag's attention fully changes the shield. His symbol blazes from the front of the shield and you can feel it moving with you to aid in your defense. (Shield becomes +1 - same price as 1st level powerstone)

Male Human Traveler / 8

Very nice. Thanks, Wrath!

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

I have to agree, very nice and thank you. I do have a question though, since I am a spontaneous caster would I still have to pick one spell I can recast or would it just function as an extra first level spell?

Let's just go with the extra slot. Keeps in theme.

I love your time capsule. Thanks!

Glad you liked it. I have two more planned, maybe a third. Hope it works out as I have planned. Either way, it gives you more for your character. Let me know if I step over the bounds of what Tania would do (Jo'no too).

Cheers

PS Will update later today. Just bumming around house with my kids today and not feeling overly "writey". Will get it all done soon though.

FYI, I'm recruiting fo a Jade Regent PbP.

Thanks for letting us know DW

As much as I'd love to get into that AP, I'm running two games and playing in 4th ed game on these boards now. That's enough for me I'm afraid. Otherwise everything starts to suffer.

Good luck with it though.

Cheers

Male Human Traveler / 8

Thanks for the notice, Dreaming Warforged. I'd consider applying but I'm already in a Jade Regent campaign and I've got as many games as I can handle to boot.

Thanks for the indepth story. I do plan to comment on it as soon as I find some more time, but I certainly did not have any concerns about it.

Grand Lodge

I just looked over Durik's character sheet. I have a character in a tabeltop game with nearly the same build. He and Idrian ought to get along famously.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

Probably. :) More of a friendly rivalry I'm sure. So far I like him but a few more feats and uses of judgement a day will be nice. Deadly Aim, Rapid Shot, you know the drill.

Male Human Traveler / 8

Sorry for disappearing the last few days. There's been an unexpected death and the funeral was today. Flying home later and will try to be back to my normal posting by tomorrow.

In other news, I've really had it with 2011. Bring on the new year and better times.

Grand Lodge

Take your time. Grieve, come together with your family. We'll be here when you are up for it again.

I echo Dax.

Male Human Traveler / 8

Thanks, guys.

As it happens, I'm finally back from the funeral, mostly recovered from the lack of sleep and ready to get back with it. I see that Wrath's gotten crazy busy though, so I'll take it easy until things have calmed down for him.

Take it easy, Wrath! I know how life can get in the way.

Sorry for your loss. I hope the new year is a better year for you.

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

I will be getting married on Saturday, and as such my posting rate will drop slightly until Sunday evening. Feel free to DMPC me along if necessary.

Male Human Traveler / 8

Thanks, Kor.

Congrats, Durik! What, no honeymoon?

Male Human (Varisian) Inquisitor/4

We're saving up to go somewhere nice for the 1 year anniversary.

A suggestion (I'm about to try this in one of my games): when a caster casts a spell, could he be rolling the d20 for the save as well, so that the DM only has to add the bonuses to resolve?

It would speed things up for the DM, but it would remove the screen advantages somewhat.

Can someone please explain what I am missing:

I have noticed several characters here, and in another campaign I am in, posting attack and damage twice in series.

Here is a recent example:

Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13

Can someone please tell me what ability/feat/power allows you to do this?

Thanks.

Well, in this case Kor, the roll was a natural 20. Look at the number in Brackets. That's a possible critical so another d20 roll is called for to confirm.

The poster saw this, then went back and edited the post to include the critical hit confirmation and extra damage as needed.

I can only assume that is also what is happening in your other games.

I only include the extra damage in my calculations if the second roll actually confirms the critical btw.

I've only once or twice seen someone make a roll that I had to check out for possible errors, and it turned out it was my mistake not theirs hehe. I tend to trust folks now, but I'm glad we're all still keeping an eye on things as well.

Hope that clears things up.

At work right now, so will post update when i get home.
Cheers
