Razor Coast Texas Style!

Game Master brvheart

Razor Coast, a devil’s paradise, where a man’s fortune can bleed out quicker than a spitted pig, and where the dawn sky blazes across endless oceans. Oceans that for centuries hid a lost people of whom legend whisper were born into these wild reaches as the sons of sharks. Here, within in the kraken’s clutches, law means little while gold breaks all boundaries and blood, pearls, and rum pay for all sin.

The Exchange

I'm not up for any material investments right now, but I don't own any of those. I hope that doesn't disqualify me.

The Exchange

Gen:
HP: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 3) = 16
HP: 4d8 ⇒ (6, 7, 7, 1) = 21 EDIT: re-roll 1d8 ⇒ 5

Rolling twice since I'm still waffling between a mostly-wizard type and a mostly-rogue melee type.

@D-Kal, I don't think not having the guide will harm your chances - brvheart is very inclusive...

As a heads-up, we have rogue and melee covered. We really need an AoE arcanist, in my humble opinion...

No, that doesn't exclude you. Most of my players in my ftf game don't have it either. Morgan is right though, with Silas and Obi they have the rogue role pretty well covered.

The Exchange

Under the tweaked gun rules, can one take Craft(firearms) as a skill without needing the gunsmithing feat?

I'd agree with Morgan. We really could do with full arcane support as we could do with the level of damage they can do and the options that provides us.

I would state that you could craft, but not repair them without the feat. Besides, as firearms are readily available I am not sure it is worth the skill points. The intent of firearms in this campaign is more of a secondary weapon. You fire your pistol or musket and then draw your rapier.

The Exchange

I haven't seen gameplay or discussion budge much. How fast is gameplay usually?
And can someone recommend languages?

We've been waiting for a new player to be honest.

Without knowing anything of your character concept little difficult to make any suggestions.

Sovereign Court

brvheart, I've got most of the books but never had time to read them because they arrived just after my daughter was born.

I did read the original 3.5 indulgences though and have a sense of the world.

I'l put together a battefield control freebooting caster and see what you think.

I still need to write up background and fill a couple holes, but I'm applying with a Tulita (Sugalo) Wizard (Scrimshaw Fetishist) who is associated with The Broken (still deciding if he's a spiritual leader who works indirectly with them or a more direct participant). You can get a good idea of where I'm going with him from the attached profile. More AOE blast, less control.

I'll add a background spoiler once I finish the draft, but for now here's the general concept: Wexley, the arcane investigator.

The idea here is that Wexley uses daggers, twin pistols, intellectual skills, and a host of arcane tricks to hunt down magical knowledge and especially despicable criminals.
I'll need the equivalent of Common, plus 6 other languages. Tips are appreciated.

Long game Friday and today, but I got to take a quick look. It is an interesting concept. Just question the 8 Chr with the Pal level.

The scrimshaw wizard also looks interesting and would fit in with Obi. We may end up with two openings.

Sorry, guys. I have to drop out of the game. I welcome the two new recruits - they both look very cool, and I'm sure they will more than replace my tortured adoptive-Tulita.

My school year is about to start, just six months to go to get my degree, and I want to give it my best.

It has been a real pleasure gaming with you Obi, Sandman, Beth and Silas. Morgan couldn't have found a better bunch of adventurers. He didn't always agree with you, but we all made it worthwhile.

Thanks so much to brvheart for his attention to Razor Coast, and taking the time to create this version of the Razor Coast world and story.

Sorry to hear you're dropping out Hoeroa. It was fun reading through all of the posts and thinking through how Leialoha would interact with Hoeroa and his 'between the worlds' life (I'd already decided that Leialoha was going to insist on calling him Hoeroa if I was accepted). Tiki will also be horribly missed. Too often familiars, companions and constructs fade into the woodwork, but you did a brilliant job of breathing life into Tiki and I loved the interplay at times between him and Hoeroa. Good luck in school. Maybe a mission back to the Tikarua to follow up on one of the shark attacks or something similar would be called for so you can slip back in after graduation.

Let us know if you want to bring us both on, think on it a bit or wait to see if GeraintElberion applies.

Farewell then Randall. I suppose we'll try to keep Obi out of trouble for you.

Brvheart:
I didn't list Smite Evil in my special abilities for that reason. Clearly Wexley wasn't cut out to be a Paladin. I'd even considered changing his alignment to NG, making him an ex-paladin. I rather wanted to keep Detect Evil though.

Thanks for the support of both Hoeroa and myself. And yes, Tiki was too much fun. Look after him Sandman!

I did think that perhaps after I graduate if you guys aren't swallowed by Dajobas I might ask brvheart if I could return….

Wexley, hopefully not intruding too much on your spoiler to brvheart, but any thought to playing an inquisitor? With Hoeroa bowing out, an inquisitor might be a good secondary divine caster and they definitely fit the investigator role well (and are on brvheart's list of acceptable non-core classes). They get Detect Alignment so you'd have that ability (and Detect Lies too). The judgments would make you a more capable pistol wielder. You get quite a few spells that are inquisitor specific and fit the investigator theme nicely.

Vanitthu might be an interesting deity who would fit very nicely with your background. Tactics is a nice domain (especially that Initiative ability), but you could also consider the Black Powder Inquisition which would be a nice addition to your desire to make a gun wielding character.

Vanitthu:

Vanitthu, God of the Steadfast Guard
Portfolio: Defense, justice, law, righteous combat, sieges
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Domains: Healing, Law, Protection, War
Subdomains: Defense, Loyalty, Tactics
Symbol: A gray shield emblazoned with a stylized black fortress tower
Garb: A gray tabard with a black tower sigil
Favored Weapon: Spear
Form of Worship and Holidays: Prayers are often said to Vanitthu at the start of sieges or by guardsmen prior to heading out on the beat.
Typical Worshippers: Barristers, judges, guards, professional soldiers, military officers, and nobles
Some claim that Vanitthu is the son of the great god Anumon; others go so far as to say that Vanitthu is yet another aspect of the great god (this schism has caused considerable conflict within the faith). In either case, Vanitthu is the embodiment of martial perfection, law, the strength of the state, and the punishment of the guilty. A grim and resolute deity, Vanitthu is always shown bearing a spear made of lightning and a polished mithral shield. He often appears to his followers on the field of battle, especially to those engaged in or defending against sieges.

BTW, I think there is plenty of room for us both to play wizards if you want to stick with that. I think you'll probably wind up more control and utility oriented and I'll be the blaster. Just thought I'd throw that inquisitor thought past you since it seems like a nice fit for your concept.

For your languages, you'll almost certainly want the Tulita dialects. This group seems to have pretty broad access to them, but it makes sense for an investigator to have them. There are four - mainland, coastal, island, and Aizanes-Tulita. The latter is rarest, but depending on how you came to Port Shaw, it might be something you could have picked up along the way. Aquan is used as a trade language among seafarers so that would be a pretty obvious one for you too. Common is common. Those would be the most obvious ones for your background.

I had actually considered going Paladin 1/Cleric 4. My skill points would be crap, but I could pick up the Black Powder inquisition as well as perhaps a strong domain to replace my Binding Darkness school power. But at this point, I think I like the concept I have. The guns and knives were only ever meant to supplement my magic, so I'll let them slip into the background as my spells become more powerful. However, I'd planned to grab the Eldritch Knight prestige class, so my mundane combat ability should never be *that* bad. I won't be able to keep up with your spellcasting, but a few spells here, a few bullets there, a well placed dagger or two, and everyone goes home happy.

I find nothing wrong with the Inquisitor class per se. We have one in our Slumbering Tsar game, but the one we had in our RC ftf game was a bit too lawful for the campaign. Silas, Beth and Obi are rather chaotic in this game also so.....

Ok, I am going to approve Wexley and Leiloha so please post over in the discussion thread so everyone can introduce each other. Of course, Morgan your are welcome to return after you finish school:)

Dear gods is Obi chaotic!

And enjoy the game Wesly and Leiloha. Morgan hopes to return ...

Wil definitely miss Morgan and Tiki. Good luck with the degree. We should have finished the cove by the time you get back :)

I have been notified that theres a spot open for a new character. So on with the questions. I was also told that your party is pretty balanced for needed roles so on to making whatever I want. How does a fighter(buccaneer) sound? Traits sea dog and skilled crewman?

Jarveiyan is an old friend of mine that has been playing with us off and on for about 12 years now.

Another fighter would be good given we just lost Morgan.

Well lets roll dem bones for hp...hp: 4d10 ⇒ (2, 10, 5, 6) = 23

I think I have everything done. But I wouldn't mind someone checking and letting me know should I have missed anything.

I will put in into Herolab later to check it over. Did you take Skill points of hit points for favored class bonus? Sorry, was a little delayed as I had to have my system drive replaced. Looks A-OK now thanks to Kara.

Yeah d10 for hp should be good enough...took skill points for favored calss bonus

Ok, go ahead and introduce your character in the mean time:)

In Game or in Discussion?

If you are ready to play go to Game play. if not then discussion.

I finally finished the check on the character and the differences are pretty minor. I come up with 104 GP left over and your Climb is +8 not +4. You forgot to add your str add to it. 2r+3C+3Str

Rats...I'm usually pretty good about the currency accounting, as for the skill even the best make mistakes.

It could have been the program. It kept double entering items on me:(

Hey all! Met brvheart at a local convention and was interested in joining, he said there's room for me! I was just wondering if there is any class the party would like to see? I have an old 3.5 character who was a polynesian style nude spear-wielding barbarian/fear based bard (he did the haka dance to inspire fear).

I can roll him up in PF, but I also love playing all classes, so if we need a thief, magic user, etc, I am cool with that also! (and good to meet everyone).

I would suggest not a bard, thief or magic user as we're pretty full on those. Look at the characters under the tab to see what we have.

Kind of (brand spanking) new to PBP but looks like there's a good 8 characters or so lol. Which ones are active? I see you, Beth, Wexley and Natalee most recently posting, are any of the others active? That gives a wizard, bard, cleric/ranger, fighter? Nice coverage :)

We're not sure on the others.

I have pm'ed the others, but have not received a response as of yet. I did not pm Obi as he has stated he is not ready as of yet.

OK. I will probably roll up a barbarian fighter or barbarian shamanish druid. Weekends I am not as active as weekdays but will throw something together today or tomorrow. Any differences between tulita and standard human?

No difference stat wise. The difference is all about cultural stuff. Do you have access to the player's guide?

I sent him the Tulita section of it, but he does not have the Freebooter's Guide.

As long as no difference stat wise I should be fine. The only frog god game stuff I own hasn't even arrived here yet haha and its Tsar and RA.

There are some minor differences in the stats for the Tulita per the race section depending on what sub race. Did you get the file I sent?

Got it now thanks :)

Sorry guys, bad case of strep throat (go me!) this weekend. I'll have character finished and HP rolled for DM review by tomorrow morning. Barbarian/fighter using a longspear or some other reach weapon bodyguardish kinda role is how it's looking. Hope that fits well with the group.
