Beyond the scaffolding, a slender rope bridge swings out toward a two-story building with a tower across the gorge.

Looking at the bridge with perceptive and knowledgeable eyes, Tolvan quickly realizes it will be a most treacherous crossing (Acrobatics DC 15). Also he wizard detected a magic aura in the middle of this new bridge.

Anna detects no traps in her surveillance of the bridge.

She pauses while on the bridge and leans over the edge, looking straight down into the gorge. Well, I hope nothing swoops up to attack us while we're dangling on this thing.

I realize we're partially waiting for Tolvan to chime in, but how far across the bridge are you going?

How can you be out of arrows Andjela. Are you not an archer? Here take this quiver of mine. With that mild rebuke Tolvan takes a full quiver of 20 arrows from his haversack and passes them to the paladin.

Going by the map, it looks like a good 50-60'.

Anna starts to search for signs of the magic on the bridge.
Trapfinding: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 4 + 3 = 30

Given Tolvans direction based on his magical insights, Anna is just able to see the edge of a magical trap in the middle of the bridge, set off by proximity.

Tolvan is able to concentrate and realizes it's a conjuration spell of moderate strength.

You seeing this, Slipknot? Swaying rope bridge, huge chasm, rushing river below. Am I crazy? Anna mutters to herself while pulling out the magic rope and tying one end around her waist. Then she commands the other end to affix itself to the bridge.

She inches forward, hoping to bypass the proximity magics so she can unravel the trap.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38


With near perfect execution and poise, and an understanding of these traps bordering on the magical, Anna disables the mundane portion of the magic trap with ease.

Does anyone know what happens to the remains when a magical trap gets disabled? This is me being lazy and not searching the boards or the rule books like I should.

I think its gone - discharged, or dissipated harmlessly. The trigger would be gone either way.

Well done Anna. that trap would have summoned some powerful creature while some of us were trying to cross. That could have been bad for us.

Danica I have over 60 arrows remaining to me. 20 are blunt and 20 are cold iron. 12 are silver and a small number are enchanted.

Anna beams at the compliment and makes a slight waving gesture towards the sky. Then she continues across the bridge.

She still stops every ten feet or so and checks for more traps, paying close attention to the end of the bridge. She also makes sure the door to the next building is safe.

Taking 10 gets a 27.

I'm not as nimble as Anna is. do you guys think I can make it across? she asks innocently

I might have a trick up my sleeve if I have to use it but I never tried that type of magic before so i don't know if it can help.


Making her careful way across, still with the rope attached to her, Anna comes to a this end of the demolished bridge -clinging to the cliff beneath a large building. A statue of a beautiful nymph stands next to a pair of double doors. Above the doors is a stained glass window depicting a unicorn.

The rest of the party still stands at the far side, amidst the burned ruins of the lab.

Anna, I am not sure the rest of us can make it. I can fly over carrying Kimberly. But I am not sure I can carry Andjela.

I bet Danica can get across no problem. Maybe I should cast the fly spell on Andjela and let her carry me across. Tolvan is lighter and has less gear. But he also has a fly skill, which I bet Andjela does not have.

You're kidding, right? Anna calls across the gap. She hops up and down a couple times. Strong bridge! See?

Then she commands the far end of the rope to go toward the others at the far end. Hold on to this!

Then she turns and studies the statue, looking for signs it might have a secret latch or trigger, thinking of the hidden catch that Tolvan found at the front door.

The shouted words to each other can scarcely be heard across the distance with the rushing river below and the roaring falls not all that far away. The use of the magic rope, interwoven into the existing rope bridge, does make the traversal a bit easier.

+10 Acro bonus with the magic rope in use.


Anna detecting nothing interesting about the statue or the area around this new door, only getting a better look at the interesting bit of architecture.

That lets Tolvan take 10 if he can. If not a roll of 6 or less, 1 in 3 will mean he fails. That is not worth the rise to him. He will either fly or let Andjela fly and carry him. Thoughts?

Wait, +10 bouns. I was thinking DC10. With a +10 bonus he only fails on a 1.

using the magical rope will give a great bonus. How about I carry Kimberly, piggie-back style. What is the penalty for doing that? Basically, tie my existing rope around her and me so she can't get off my back unless the rope is taken off. using the magic role of +10 and Danica's bonus of +8. Total of +18. Wanna try it Kimberly? ;-)

Anna is scared of lots of things, but heights is not one of them.

Anna moves back across the swaying bridge casually, ignoring the magic rope. Come on, I'll help, she holds out her hand to whoever is starting to cross.

Acrobatics to assist. I can't fail on this (all I need is a 10), so I give a +2 to everyone I help across.

Using the rope and letting Anna help Tolvan crosses with no issue. A 1 would still make it. Once across he stands ready to use his Feather Fall spell in case someone does fall.

She starts to slowly make her way across. Her muscles straining from the added weight and the shifting of her center of gravity. She takes advantage to the magical rope sent my Anna. Without it, both Danica and Kimberly would be falling to the rapids below.

You step into a type of lobby. This room is crammed with cabinets full of weird, alchemically preserved creatures, including a pair of ice mephit wings, several large spiders, parts of a dissected giant slug, and the digestive tracts and proboscises of three stirges.

You discover three vials that have fallen behind one cabinet near the door. The vials are labeled and each contains 1 dose of violet venom.
