Checking in!

Ok, this is going to be run as a Starfinder Society Organized play game. There are some extra rules around character creation (which don't matter here as you are playing pregens), as well as more constraints on me as GM to run the game as written.

The intent is so that six strangers could meet up at a con or game shop with society legal characters, sit down with a GM they've never met, and have relatively balanced characters, and everyone would be playing by the same rules.

A couple things that MAY come up here

1. No player vs player is allowed in Society play.
2. Characters cannot be evil/perform or perform blatantly evil acts (Tends to break the scenario)

- The scenarios are usually intended to last 4-5 face-to-face hours (I find 1 hour translates to around a week of PbP, I imagine we'll be slower with this session as rules will be explained, etc)
- The scenarios are more rail-roaded than a home game as there are specific goals that the in-game Starfinder Society wants you to achieve, (And most of your character rewards are tied to those goals), and there is limited time to play and complete the scenario.

When you completed a scenario you get a "chronicle sheet" which records your experience, wealth, etc gained and usually gives you some boon/special ability to apply to a character. Usually it applies to the character you use in the scenario, but since you are using this with a pre-gen, you'll get to apply it to another character. We'll explain more about boons if you continue with your own characters after this.

Typically every three scenarios your character will level.

That's what I can think of right now.

Who is the Starfinder Society? What do they do? And what is the Scoured Stars Incident?

On the upper left of this page is a link to our shared Google doc. The first two pages now answer all of these questions. If it's hard to read, here's the Starfinder Society Guild Guide that explains everything about society play. If we continue you'll want to eventually read this. The last couple of pages have the pages I cut and pasted into the Google doc.

tl;dr

317 years ago there is a collective loss of memory and records.. "The Gap" is an indeterminate span of time from which memories and records alike were wiped away. Golarion, the planet Pathfinder transpires on, is gone. No one knows where it went. In its place is Absalom station, home to around two million people.

Shortly after the Gap, the Starfinder society was formed, inspired by incomplete tales of a similar pre-gap organization called the Pathfinder Society. The Goals of the Starfinder Society were to map the temporal edges of the Gap to see what happened, and find Golarion. Since then the goals have transformed to focus less on that and now more on exploring the galaxy made available through Drift engines (the Faster than light travel of Starfinder)

In 316 AG (After Gap) the Starfinder Society made a coordinated expedition to a region of space known as the Scoured Stars. 80% of the Society's assets and agents went on this mission. Everything was going swimmingly, but then nothing... no contact. The Scoured Stars were now cut off from the rest of the galaxy, a vast shield of energy surrounded the region of space preventing communication and travel into the system.

Now we're to the beginning of season one of Starfinder Society play. The society is on the brink of ruin... the leadership that was left held the Starfinder Society together long enough to get a new cadre of Starfinders to complete their training. This explains why there is an influx of noob agents.

note... when you're posting, under the submit buttons is a "how to format your text". It's html-like.

Ryan Hiller says, "Bold when your character speaks"

Use [ ooc] for out of character text, like quick explanations, etc.

Check out the [ dice=Attack Roll]1d20 + 5[/dice] post mechanism.

should look like...

Ryan yells, "Die you scaly bastard! as he stabs him in the face

Attack, Sonic Knive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage w/sneak attack: 1d4 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + (5) + 2 = 10

I think sneak attack applied here because I'm invisible

I will likely be mostly offline for the next three days... back Monday night.

I mentioned that Brandon would be coming into this group. He's playing Keskodai the Shirren Mystic (the closest to Wizard that Starfinder has...)

Shirren are bug-like creatures that were once part of The Swarm, a collective that nearly consumed the pact worlds. The Shirren mutated into beings with individuality... they are now nearly addicted to being able to make their own decisions.

He'll be popping in. He's been with the group since scene one, but has remained quiet until now.

Hey everybody! Thanks for having me. I'm really looking forward to playing some Starfinder and rp'ing with you all. It's my first time using the Paizo boards, so hopefully I don't make myself look too awful...

Also, does anyone know how to subscribe to get alerts when there are new posts?

Sadly there is no subscribe for alerts. Paizo is afraid their store will be marked as a spam site, so they don't do it.

Good to know. Also, what's the expected posting cadence? I'd imagine for us to get through a 4 hour module per month, we'd need to post a few times a week at a minimum?

I shoot for one post per day (and I might try to get a couple in depending on the player posts). We've slowed quite a bit in the last few days, but a couple of members were hit by the hurricane and have no power.

Oh noes! I hope everyone is safe and sound.

Apparently. Everyone (form this crew) has reported in.

Note on board Aliases.

Once you post 10 times the name locks in.

For posting in general on the boards you'll likely want another alias...

My Account->Create New Alias

Since you're playing a pre-gem and the credit for this scenario will go to a different society character, it's ok that this alias is not a society character.

You will need to create a society character though if anyone wants credit for this scenario... My Account->Pathfinder Society->Edit->Create New Starfinder Society Character. This is where it would be important to get the name right prior to posting 10 times.

You may need to generate or download a new Pathfinder Society ID card first (I've done that, so I don't know what the pre-having-a-society-number page looks like.

Thanks Ryan. Question (from a complete novice at Society play) - is there a reason for us to want to get credit for this session, other than if we were to want to play and advance the pre-gen at some other game?

The pregens will never level... you play them either as 1st, 4th, or 7th, whatever matches the scenario you're running.

Typically it works like this if you use a pregen. Since this is a level 4 scenario, you can take the boon you get and apply it to whatever character we report this scenario with. That character will get the boon when they are 4th level.

Since this is a special event... the boon actually has application outside that. This one gives you a boon your can use anytime you use a pregen, and you can also use it any time you are at a specific location (listed in the boon.)
