Demons resist fire. But to know you must experiment.
Diri moves to the ledge, doing a few trajectory calculations aloud, (can I see/target the spot marked with an x?)
If so: Diri casts (Disruptive) fireball, just missing Pooka and Luna.
Fire Damage!: 6d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 3, 5, 4) = 16 DC 16
If not: Seeing no ability to avoid hitting compatriots, Diri will move further (3 squares south) to get a better view.
Move and cast fireball, or double move.
Targath
|
Link that Disruptive Fireball. I've never heard of one.
Targath, hearing the sounds of an upcoming battle, smiles widely. "Oh boy! It had been far too long!" he exclaimed excitedly, rushing off to jump off the balcony. He figures the fight might be over if he starts climbing, so he instead climbs down some distance, like 10 feet, and then jumps down.
Climb: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
As he lands, Targath swiftly takes out his magic greatsword, shining its light at the face of the babau. "Damn you're one f*##ing ugly son of a b&+**!"
I guess that's a double move. 10 feet of climbing equals 40 feet of movement, and then 20 feet of movement around.
| TheBobJones_GM |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Diri thrusts her hands forward only to see a small ball of fire blossom from her hands and expand as it flies towards the babau.
Engulfing the demon, he was too slow to notice its approach. The flames lick up his skin, blistering it. Even in the black and white of Diri's drakvision, she knows that the demon should be writhing on the ground, rather than standing upright, glaring at Pooka.

I was rummaging through the desk. Unless I can do that and run down ;)
| TheBobJones_GM |
Chumley, you do have long arms ;)
Knowing that time is running short, and still smoldering from the fireball from the small woman, the babau knows it is now or never for him. Lining Pooka up in his sights, it attacks with everything it has.
The wicked longspear flashes out.
Longspear main: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 even with the ring
Longspear damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Longspear Iterative: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Longspear damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
And then it steps closer to Pooka, lashing out with it's razor sharp teeth.
bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
bite damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The longspear once again cuts into Pooka's armor like it wasn't there, drawing blood each time. Its teeth however bang against the halfling's armor. The halfling wobbles in his saddle, barely hanging on.

This rate of escalation cannot possibly continue.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (2) - 5 = -3
Diri launches herself off the ledge (for vacuous definitions of 'launch'), gracelessly hitting the ground square with the vast majority of her surface area.
Falling: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 is it 20ft?
Still prone, she flashes her holy symbol once more.
Channeling: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16
Chumley

What did I find in the desk?
Assuming GM allows:
Chumley sighs at the reappearance of the demon. Looks like the little Chum could use Aid from Above... or at least a higher elevation. He then moves over to the ledge, and attempts to hit the demon with his Longspear.
Long Spear: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Possibly 22 if there's a bonus for higher ground?
Targath

Targath moves over to the demon and slashes it with his greatsword. "Now quit f$%!ing with tin can over here! He's got a nose to pick with you!"
"And most importantly, I will eat your f%&!ing soul and use your lifeless carcass as a napkin!"
Free: 5ft-step; Move: Activate Freebooter's Bane; Standard: Attack

Xull
|
Oh and Xull, Tilley did say men
Yes, but when we saw the single babau, she said "them's the men"... I was just checking that we could only see one.
I can see a cross over the babau demon now... so this is only if that means something other than it's already down.
"POOKA!" cries the Shoanti, spittle flying from his mouth in concern for his friend as the bloodrage overtakes him once more. Xûll tries to carefully drop his held potion and rushes up to the fray, only slightly disappointed at Diri and Targath for blocking his charge lanes.
Cold iron hammer, raging, power attack, fatigued, partial soft cover (Pooka), freebooter: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 1 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 2 - 1 - 2 + 1 = 20 -- 15 ft reach.
B/P Cold iron damage, power attack, fatigued, freebooter: 1d12 + 9 + 6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 6 - 1 + 1 = 26
| TheBobJones_GM |
Through the pathfinders combined efforts, they strike the babau high and low . It gives a guttural howl as the cold iron pierces his body. Dark energies and life ichor seep out, leaving behind only a husk.
Well done - combat over
Back in the chamber, Chumley fidgets with a odd clasp mechanism, and pops open a drawer. Inside he finds a journal. rainbow unicorn and sparkly - :)
I know that you have been pushing on to find Tilly's Pa and all - let me know if you want to read the Journal or just moves yourselves like you have been doing,
Current Conditions: Pooka -26, Diri -6
Targath
|
"Well done, brother!" Targath says before turning to see his fellow shoanti turned to a monster. "But damnit, brother, keep your savagery within you. Don't go all ape s!$%." Stupid censoring.
"So we good to go? You too, giant fugly, or are you going to fiddle with that desk some more?"
Chumley
|
Chumley quickly peruses the journal to see if it's of immediate interest, scanning the first and last page in case it's relevant. "Mighta found something. Mighta not. Just a moment if you will."
Before leaving the area, he pauses to retrieve his hat and stuffs it under his (still oversized) arm.
| TheBobJones_GM |
As Chumley skims the journal, he finds something that stands out.
The deed is done! I finally had that strumpet, Zarta Dralneen, shackled in Citadel Vraid. It took every resource I had within the Chelish bureaucracy, but it was worth it to frame her for treason. I have no more favors within Thrune’s government, but I shall need Cheliax no longer. The pleasure of personally ordering her arrest was a moment I will savor for an eternity. I swear Zarta will pay for the murder of my dearest brother Aglorn. Poor brother, my revenge is not complete. I vow I shall destroy everything she holds dear, starting with her property in Absalom—yes, that whole city shall burn.
There are more entries but as you indicated a quick scan, that is all for now. Interestingly, I played in a scenario where this was a plot point.
Chumley
|
Chumley shoves the journal in his bag. "Nothing of use now Chums, unless we find the Dark Archive leader down here..." He then goes towards the rest of the group and the unknown hall, dismissing his Enlarge for the sake of the small hallway.
Pooka Bladespinner
|
The shout and the challenge, Pooka's vision was narrowed, focused on the demon in front of him. Then the impossibly long arms of Xull reach over his head and crush the demon in front of him.
The adrenaline wears off quickly, and Pooka's vision becomes less tunneled. He is suddenly aware of the sharp pain beneath the folds of his armor, and he leans over in his saddle, clutching his side.
"I think... I think I am glad for the favor you have found with your goddess Diri." he says before slumping over and sliding off his saddle with an unceremonius thud.
"Think you could wack me a few times with this happy little stick?" he says, holding up the precious wand of cure light wounds.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
With his wounds closed, he breaths a sigh of relief. He looks at Targath to thank him for his concern earlier, but quickly realizes that the abrasive man would probably just be insulted by it. He gives him a nod and a tip of the visor, figuring that is all that needs to be said. He pats Luna down and wipes some of the demon ichor off of her coat.
"Better me than you girl. We're going to be alright."
"Tilly! Coast is clear for now, don't get to far away. We need to keep an eye on you." He shouts down the hall. Looking to his companions, he climbs back up in his saddle to move the rest of the way down the hall in front of them.
Targath
|
Assuming Chumley speaks the journal's contents aloud.
"WHAT?!"
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?! ZARTA'S BEEN ARRESTED?! WHO'S THIS DICKWAD WHO HAS TAKEN MY BELOVED ZARTA? WHAT PUTRID SACK OF RANCID FLESH IS THIS F!@$ING RETARD?! I'LL MAKE HIM PAY DEARLY FOR THIS! I'LL RIP HIS HEAD FROM HIS SPINE, AND FEED IT TO THE DOGS!"
Targath is furious, his grip of his greatsword tightens and he looks further into the corridor. He looks at Pooka, and grabs him and lifts him up. "We've got no time for your 'oh look at me, I'm wounded' b&~@~+@$! I'm fed up with this demon funhouse and its f*!$ing tricks! We flood the place with blood and then head STRAIGHT to this Citadel Vraid!"
With thumping steps Targath makes his way down the corridor, barely waiting for others to finish up their things.
If Targath would have barbarian levels, he would expend all rounds at once.
| TheBobJones_GM |
Can someone please delete the south hallway spoiler? Also can someone please move Tilly to the back of the group as you progress. Phone and all :(
Ignoring Targath's temper tantrum, the Pathfinders round the corner and find rubble strewn debris blocking their passage further southward. To the west is a long corridor bisected by a staircase that rises to a landing. The pathfinders make their way up the stairs, and then they can see an identical set of stairs descending.
As the hallway terminates from view it turns sharply to the north. Cautiously rounding the corner, they see a door in front of them.

Targath Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Xull Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Xull

Xûll lets Targath go first down the corridor, since he is so eager. He does, however, offer a warning as his kinsman tromps off, "Please be careful, friend Targath. Look at debris. The walls are perhaps being not so stable."
"Tilly's parents have to be around here somewhere," says Xûll as he lets Chumley do his thing with the door. More likely dead than alive... and very possibly transported to a demonic plane during a ritual sacrifice. With slumped shoulders, Xûll casts a sad look back at Tilly and then tries as hard as he can to smile reassuringly.
| TheBobJones_GM |
Thanks Xull. Can you move everyone to the door by 4?
The pathfinders are now in front of a door. Chumley inspects it.

The door is unlocked. Cue music
Chumley

"Well, this is certainly right ominous. Bottoms up, and it's been a pleasure thus far, Chums." Chumley gives sets his hat down safely around the corner, then takes a swig of his last extract and becomes Enlarged once more.
Minor retcon, Pooka, but if you'd prefer to save a charge or three from your wand, you can make use of Chumley's wand of infernal healing. Your choice. I also rearranged slightly to fit Chumley's Enlarged girth.
Pooka Bladespinner

Thanks for the offer Chumley! Its only a handful of charges, I'm not worried about it. Might take you up if I get beat down again though...
"Right you are, Chumley. Lets knock this door down and finish this thing."
Why do I have a feeling we are going to bust this door down and find nothing behind it?
Diri Lizzenbettolze

Dateline: Postcombat
Diri props herself to her feet, taps herself with a wand of infernal healing and begins a bit of triage on Pooka.
Dateline: Now!
Diri turns to Tilly and does her best to stifle her naturally hectic speech, "I've got a spell I can cast on you if you'd like," she says with a surprisingly genial smile. "But if that is unacceptable I understand."
If she agrees, I'll hit her with my wand of remove fear. If not, no worries. If necessary: Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"Via the exhaustive method of proof I postulate that Tilly's parents are likely located the only door we have yet to check behind so discretion and attention is of the utmost priority" Diri flatly states, voice and inflection back to normal.

"Don't cast nothing on me lady. If more thin men come I'm running away till you kill them like before."
Diri Lizzenbettolze

"That is a very logical plan so please execute it should the need arise."
When the need arises. Likely in less than six seconds.
Targath
|
"Let's get on with this, damnit! Zarta's in trouble, screw this manor and its demon s@#+!" Targath says, irate. Once Chumley has done examining the door, Targath kicks the door in. (cinematically, of course)
Btw Chumley dismissed his enlarge person, so I reduced his token to normal size.
Pooka Bladespinner

Chumley had another extract, so he 'recast' it. As far as shield goes, its a personal spell, target you. I need UMD to use your wand. I've thought about this often because the extra 4 AC would be nice...
| TheBobJones_GM |
The Pathfinders burst into the room, weapons draw, ready to fight to the death with the powers of the Abyss.
A blanket spread on the ground, there is Pa, and Mother, and Tarcey supping lightly on sandwiches. They turn as one and spot young Tilly. They bound over to her and smother her with tight hugs and kisses of affection. Tears steam down all their faces as the joy of being reunited is more emotion than they can handle. Pa runs over to the group and pumps their hands, before submitting to the joy of the moment and embracing each of them tightly. Yes, even Targath gets a Pa hug. He thanks them over and over again, pure joy etched on his face. He pledges eternal gratitude to them before rejoining his reunited family. You can over hear him saying, "I am never letting you out of my sight again. "
What they really see:
A narrow wooden plank spans a twenty-foot-deep pit, within which sits an unsettling scene. Several groups of corpses have been arranged here, mimicking poses of family merriment. There are half a dozen such macabre scenes set up throughout the pit, including a middle-aged couple engaged in a romantic meal, a family of four nestled cozily in a bed, a dancing couple, and six men who appear to be brothers playing a dice game around a crowded table. Interspersed between the sinister dioramas are seemingly random objects, like a jar of eyeballs, a cage full of snow-white doves, and a large pile of ragged, filthy blankets.

How in the world is it always me that we are waiting on for this game!? Its Bizarro world!!!
"Shoulda seen that coming..." Pooka grumbles.
No matter, there is nothing he can do about it right now, except deal with the hound in front of him.
"Back to your pit, fiend! Luna, Forward!" Pooka waves his lance above the hounds head, trying to distract it, and expose its soft neck for his powerful mount.
[dice=Handle Animal to "push" Luna to perform a bull rush maneuver, DC 25]1d20+18[/dice]
Pooka Bull Rush, aid another with CMB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Luna snaps out at the hound, clacking her teeth together and snarling. She reaches for the underside of the hounds soft neck, trying to put it back on its heels. All at once she lunges.
Luna Bull Rush, CMB, w/ aid: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 2 = 18
Ok - Pooka is aiding Luna's bull rush. I am going to assume I need to make a handle animal check for that, since it is outside her realm of "tricks" beyond just a normal attack. Luna's bull rush provokes a AoO, due to mounted combat Pooka can make a ride check to avoid a hit if Luna does get hit. His ride check "becomes" her new AC. Sorry if this is confusing, just want to get it out there so you don't have to retcon anything. If a 17 hits the hound's CMD, it goes back 5', and hopefully falls in the pit.
So if she gets hit by the AoO, then Pooka gets an immediate action to negate the hit. The ride check makes her AC 27
Targath
|
So Targath should have executed his famed Targath maneuver on Tilly the instant he saw her in the closet. That means a quick draw + surprise attack.
Also, it's Tilly's turn after Pooka/Luna. I doubt she'll interrupt Targath so I'll post my action in advance.
Targath, still enraged about the news of Zarta being arrested, sees everything hostile in front of him as a culprit, responsible for the nefarious deed. "OUT OF MY WAY, STUPID CANINE! I WILL MANGLE YOUR USELESS CORPSE!"
Move action: Freebooter's bane @ doggy; standard action: attack, of course.

However, he fumbles with his greatsword. Apparently the adrenaline in his body is making his movements exaggerated and imprecise.
| TheBobJones_GM |
Thanks Targath, we never know when Pooka will check in so this really helps move things along ;)
With the urging of Pooka, Luna surges forwards trying to knock the flying yeth hound off the ledge. The yeth hound, however, has found some stable footing. The cavalier and his mount are unable to knock it off the ledge.

Both attacks miss due to Prot from Evil. The second one would have hit, which would have triggered my mounted combat ability to try to make a ride check to "improve" Luna's AC.
Pay attention, idiot, you nearly got your dog killed with that stunt that had no hope of working...
Pooka grumbles and growls in concert with Luna's snarling and snapping as the foes face off with each other.
"I will be the death of you, fiend! Back to the abyss with you!"
Activate last use of my challenge ability against the yeth hound - This rarely comes into play, but Luna gets a +2 dodge bonus to AC while threatening the target of my challenge, in addition to the other benefits. Pooka now has a -2 to AC vs Tilly, if that matters.

Yes the bite hit. The hallway rises up to a landing and back down so it is at least 20' high. You did not see her cast a spell or anything like that. You just saw her rise into the air.
Pooka's flail flails wide but Luna is having none of this. She bites out hard. The hounds otherworldly flesh once agian lessens the power of the bite but the hounds does yip in pain.

With ceilings 20ft high, Chumley should still be able to reach her (she should only be 15ft up, since she occupies that last 5ft square). He would also threaten so be able to take an AoO as she moved to the top of the ceiling (even with a withdraw action, she would have to have gone through a second threatened square to get that high). Don't forget that third, pesky dimension works the same as the dimensions you can see with a top-down view. Just think of us as 5ft cubes (and Chumley as a 10ft cube).
Xûll lashes out with his cold iron hammer once more, yet again being careful not to harm his friend Pooka while he swings. "Okay, Tilly is to be flying now. Me is thinking possession is no longer being a likelihood. Please, by all means let us be killing deceptive little b$~$%."
Cold iron hammer, power attack, soft cover, freebooter: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 11 - 2 - 4 + 1 = 21
Damage, power attack, freebooter: 1d12 + 9 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 6 + 1 = 26

Yeah, I've got a 10' space and a 10' reach. I can also pick up my longspear for a bit of extra reach if needed, but I'm trying to figure out which is needed currently, and if I drop my mace now to get my Longspear, if she has room to just fly up another 5 feet.

On the Subject of AoO - Tilly's movement did threaten and Chumley took and AoO and missed. But Chumley only gets one AoO from that movement. He does not have combat reflexes so he can only take one AoO, and regardless (from the SRD) "Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn't count as more than one opportunity for that opponent. "
On the subject of celling height and 'Can Chumley hit Tilly with is mace?' She is 20' up, Chumley is 10' and he has a 10' reach so yes he can hit her with his mace. May need to 5 foot step. I am not doing maths for this LOL
Once again Xull swings around his friend, catching the hound in the ribs. A sickening crunch can be heard as the hound drops dead on the landing. With only one opponent left, the Pathfinders can concentrate on the floating child.

My bad. I missed that he got the AoO. No need for a 5ft step, he threatens on the two diagonals above him also (so essentially a 30ft threat cube, with the bottom 10ft layer cut off by the floor). He could move beyond her without provoking, though (unless she has reach) to block her retreat if he liked. Xûll can also reach her on the ceiling, too (he's got 15ft reach with the hammer).

Doing a bit of coordinate geometry in her head, Diri decides that her current location is her ideal location to enable the rest of the group to fight efficiently, shrugs, and channels energy to energize Chumley and Pooka a bit.
Channeling: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) = 18 Highly efficient!
No move action

Heavy Mace, 2-handed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 6) + 10 = 22 Kinda rushing, feel free to check my math!
Chumley strolls over beneath Tilly and calmly gives an underhanded swing with his mace, hoping to catch her in her little-girl-backstabbing-face.
