Adventure description from the scenario page:
Shrouded in thick fog, the shifting Gloomspires north of the Shackles have long frustrated explorers. However, a recent discovery by the Pathfinder Society has revealed a brief opportunity to navigate the columns safely and search for the lost treasure of the legendary pirate Eightfingers. The only problem is that the Pathfinders are not the only visitors to the Gloomspires.

Okay, we'll be starting this one on Monday November 10. Enjoy the taproom until then! This adventure starts at a remote location, but you can still equip yourselves pretty well (up to 2,500 gp purchases) due to the well provisioned explorer's guild (or similar) there. No worries about equipment, essentially. Also, you ended things in Riddleport... so no issues at all, really!

No sure how long this thread is going to stay open, but I have Finarin leveled to 2 - skills and what not. Just equipment left to buy. So questions, I was planning on buying mithril chain shirt. No problem to eventually enhance it to +1. To enhance it to +2, do I need mithril chain shirt +2 from a chronicle sheet or do I need to be a certain Fame level to pay for the difference between +1 and +2? Lastly, I am going to buy 2 new weapons that are made of 'special material'. I was thinking cold iron scimitar, and maybe alchemical silver light mace. Since I have played a limited number of scenarios - is that worth the gp investment?
Thanks guys.

Alert! I just submitted a super emo post. Super awkward and everything! :)
I tell myself it's me trying to play the character and whatnot, by avoiding Cyrus as much as possible during this next scenario.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I don't know. I just like the word "Doylian" :)
Might steal the name for my next PFS character
Cyrus the Flea |
So I really want to update my profile with the vampire template, though I suspect I won't really need to...
What an awesome bit of drinking flavor GM, I am cracking up. Hopefully I do a halfway decent job of adding to the fun!
I imagine Cyrus will be waking up with one killer hangover!!!
Cyrus the Flea |
Oh yea, I am already trying to figure out how to write a post where I "turn myself into a bat"... Might be a good way to cap the night off...
Not sure if he will be showing off, or trying to escape the ire of two women who are only competing for his affection in his mind...
GM Damo |
It has been suggested that it would be a good idea to wait for chronicle sheets before we start Flesh Eaters. I concur. No sense rushing it if we have Crypt to finish still. Once Silbeg posts the Throaty Mermaid chronicle sheets, I'll let everyone level up / re-equip. Once the stats are sorted, we'll launch into it.
Plenty of fun to be had in the meantime. ;-)

Finarin Moonstep wrote:Gotta have one bad drunk in this party. Tell me you didn't know this person in college.Hey, I resemble that statement...
Kidding. As far as you know.
I more closely resemble Lort. I was going to say "except for the whole fighting friends thing" and then I remembered my brother and I doing drunken fight club after getting wasted watching Home Alone, and sitting through my graduation ceremony while bleeding into my sock through three puncture wounds in my shin that I didn't have time to get seen to. Ah, college days.
GM Damo |
Heh. Made the hat-trick of my NPCs all posting in a row. Sorry if it's too much to read. I'm just having some fun with the "down time". I'll likely keep posting on this thread from my phone over the weekend (if there's something to respond to). I just won't have a laptop to update the maps for Crypt with.
Cyrus the Flea |
Had a tough time getting on the boards today, just wasnt able to post as much. Planning a few posts tonight though to make up for it.
Loving the story about lort too!

Cyrus the Flea |
I am going to defer to others to post so I am not littering the board... If we get a few more this weekend I will get something up. I have a few interesting ones cooking. What vampire stereotype can I play with next?
Muhwaaahahahahahahaha
Cyrus the Flea |
How in the world am I so busy on a saturday? I have a post I am itching to make, but no time to write it. Hopefully tonight. Vampire epicness... on its way...
Cyrus the Flea |
Ok GM Damo - I wanted to add some extra flavor in my post, but I tried really hard to keep it as written from what my delusional character would see, and give you the opportunity to write what actually happens. I also made it a point not to write that I actually bit the poor unfortunate woman, but you can take your creative license however you want in that!
Next, my escape, as a bat!
Edit: Oh yea, loving the story. My new totally awesome idea for a character has some barbarian in him, so I have decided he is from your tribe, and is inspired by Lort's return. He decides to travel, despite the potential ramifications for leaving the tribe, and explore his "black sheep" side....
GM Damo |
Awesome! So happy to have inspired you and Finarin with character ideas. I love the savage north. I may even take a level dip in barbarian for Lort... oh, but the feat loss... hmm...
For my own part, I'm loving what you (and the others) are doing with the Essence of Razmir. I'm starting to like the bar scenes more than the actual adventure... :-)
Gotta take the kids to school and do the shopping. Responses on the gameplay thread of this scenario will follow in a couple of hours. Asar is looking in very poor shape, so we could be playing this as early as tomorrow (if your characters are ready)!
Cyrus the Flea |
Cyrus will be ready tonight, now that I finally noticed Silbeg pm's my chronicle. :) I don't know why I never notice the "new mail" thing on the top of the page...
Finarin Moonstep |
Finarin is updated except for my needless obsessing for spending 2 PP on an item. Vacillating back and forth - do I spend the 2 PP for the happy stick, do I look for a buffing wand (will I ever use it?) or horde the PP for the eventual Raise Dead bank.
GM Damo |
Please let me know on this thread when your character is ready to go. I'll start the game in earnest when you have all applied the chronicle sheet, bought your items and/or leveled up as required.
In the meantime, get your last posts in on the gameplay thread before I wrap that one up. Having fun. I decided a while back that 3 failed saves would be mindless undead. I did consider making Gunari a plague zombie as a hat tip to Crypt of the Everflame, but it sounded too gross to fit in with this bar fun.
Amaranti |
Amaranti stands ready, and leveled up. Main differences to old Amaranti: Amaranti hits harder with power attack, and Kaisharga got Combat Reflexes SO NO ELVES OR SAILORS GO SNEAKING UP ON HIM AGAIN!!!! :)
I'll put the chronicle sheet online at some point
GM Damo |
Oh, I forgot to ask for day job rolls! That way, I can get things started with chronicle sheets (printer is still working - and it was so much easier to get them out in a timely fashion after Crypt of the Everflame having them pre-prepared). Also, Gunari, can you please let me know which chronicle # this is for you (not sure if you applied the Throaty Mermaid to Gunari or not). I've still got everyone else's details from Slave Ships of Absalom.
So... please just post your day job check when you "dot" in on this thread (or let me know if you don't have one).
Speaking of... there was no space for a day job check on the Throaty Mermaid sheet. Anyone know what happens there? I've seen folk say it should be put on the "items sold" line, and some a say it should be added as a custom "tier" GP reward. Either way, it needs a GM signature. I know Lort only earned 5 gp... but others rolled better. :-)
GM Damo |
And that does it for Lort! I've got mixed feelings about not playing him again for a while. I love the character, but I love running for you guys more. I'm thinking about retiring him from PbP and hitting some tabletops. We'll see what happens. Getting pretty excited about playing a rogue, too!
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Ibid is updated and ready (within herolab), so I'm good to go as well! I'll update the gear changes on the Paizo account shortly.
Cyrus the Flea |
Sleight of Hand (Day Job): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Edit - Love Lort's story. Hoping it pops up later in our adventures!
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Sorry!
craft alchemy(day job): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Finarin Moonstep |
Perform (Modern Dance): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
GM Damo |
So, everyone has dotted in. Still waiting for Gunari, but I don't think he's got any leveling to do, so we'll just get this party started. He can make his Profession (Brewer) roll when he gets the chance.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Before Thrennt ended up as lusca-bait seven years back...
@Cyrus/PapaSteve: you probably don't remember anymore, but I had you fight a lusca during season 2 of skull and shackles. Do you remember the name of the episode when the party sailed off the find and hunt that three-headed shark-octopus?

I have to pull up my hero lab... Not at home right now, I am wracking my brain ...

GM Damo |
Hey all, hope you're enjoying your weekend! I'll give you a little more time to post your reactions to VC Benarry and grab any items you want (hint: get some digging gear!). Expect a "moving along now" post tonight.
As an aside, I've been giving a lot of thought lately to playing a full adventure path over PbP. I think I'd rather do this using PFS characters (for GM star reasons, character interchangeability and some others) but it's not 100% necessary to do it as PFS. The main drawback to an AP over PbP is the long term commitment required from both the GM and players, neither of which would be a problem with this group of PbP Superstars!
Would any of you be interested in GMing or playing an AP with this group? I have a slight preference towards playing if it's an AP, but I am also happy to run. If you want to play and I am the on to take the GM chair for this, I would have to put a halt on GMing further PFS scenarios while running the AP. My aim (again, if I ran it rather than played it) would be to do just one book at a time, with potential to change characters in between (if you have legal PFS characters of an appropriate level) and also to play some regular PFS scenarios as a bit of a break. We could always just launch straight into the next book also. I would also be aiming to do a slightly (just slightly) more relaxed pace, waiting for more consensus before moving along than I currently am (again, just if I'm the GM).
Any thoughts? Interested? Someone else want to GM this?
As an even further aside, I was thinking of creating a "pure" discussion thread for this group when discussing things not related to the current scenario. I was thinking about Facebook, Google Groups or other ways of just "socializing" online, but we all check the forums regularly it would be silly to do anything other than just creating another campaign thread purely for chat (on topics like the above, or for general real life news / events / comments / blah).
Anyway, these are the sorts of things that I think about when the posting frequency goes down over the weekend... ;-)
Finarin Moonstep |
Yes to AP, and yes to possibly DM if people can be patient with me on the rules, and a touch of photoshop. No to Facebook - I do not participate on that. Too many people know too much about me anyway which is why the tinfoil around my head makes sense. I was thinking that our bar RP should have its own thread called the Sandbox or Playground, or some other nonsense., so yes to some social hosting.
How long is an AP? Could we do a round-robin DM like we are doing with Thornkeep but include all of us rather than just you and Silbeg? I'd be more apt to run the first leg as it would be easier Rules wise for me.
Amaranti |
I believe most AP's take you from level 1 close to level 20, so pretty long. I'm sure interested, but not simultaneously with the scenarios and thornkeep saga (just trying not to stretch myself too far). Playing just one book at a time is probably a good idea, a full AP is pretty darn long commitment.
AP's can be played for PFS credit without actually using PFS characters. You can play with whatever characters created for the AP, get the scenario and apply it to any PFS characters of appropriate level.
Oh, and I'm find with any social network, but I have to admit I check paizo forums more often than Facebook :) So we have pretty good connection here.
Cyrus the Flea |
I'll be frank. I take that back. I prefer Cyrus.
I love the idea of making all of my online gaming with this group. I am however, currently in 5 PbP games. And the (normal) frequency of this group can make that taxing at times.
I LOVE the idea of an AP, mostly for the tantalizing thought of having a high level character in such an awesome group. I would have to bow out of one or more of my other games in order to pull it off though.
Currently I am in Tide of Twilight with my halfling cavalier. (who may not survive.. eeks!) which should be wrapping up soon. He can stay on the shelf for now, once he is done.
I am also in a long term PFS version of Emerald Spire (totally loving the super dungeon) with my heal-bot oracle. At least for the time being, I am planning on continuing on with that as long as the DM is willing to continue running it.
The third PbP that doesn't involve this group is a non-PFS AP, Throne of Night, with a Dwarven paladin (stonelord) that moves pretty slowly for the most part.
I can easily shelve the cavalier, and the paladin doesn't take much time anyways, so perhaps after some time I would be able to pull off a potential 3rd game with this group. I am curious to see what everyone else thinks. I know when push comes to shove, you probably wouldn't have to twist my arm to hard... (or at all...)
Cyrus the Flea |
Oh yea... and I like the idea of starting a "Taproom" thread, where we can put general discussion, and have some/all of our "out of game" fun time in there. Having wayfinder on my phone makes checking my active sessions easy, so that is much easier for me to connect on that.
Miro Ammars |
I like the idea of an AP with this group. In all honesty, I'd be hard-pressed to tell you how many games I am playing in, and I am DMing three. However, if others are willing to shoulder part of the DM load, I would be, as well.
GM Damo |
Cool - sounds like there's quite a bit of interest. Not sure how sharing the GMing duties would go, though. From the few APs I've run, there are loads of spoilers throughout each of the books. I'm pretty much able to GM only one game at a time, so if I were to GM the AP, again, this PFS ongoing thing would die (making more room for Cyurs!). I can play multiple, though... it is so, so, so much easier. :-)
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
I like the idea of an AP as well, especially with this group. Could I float an idea by everyone... I don't know how it would work at all, but...
Instead of play by post, would anyone be up for playing the AP using google chat/skype/etc. and one of the virtual tabletops? Maybe only play like once a month or something?
GM Damo |
Mmm. I'd love the idea of skype/chat/etc... but I really tend not to have the time. It's one of the main reasons I PbP. I can definitely find the time to do some live chat with you fine folk, but just not on a regular basis. Perhaps we could occasionally switch to live to help move things along... but infrequent will be the byword. ;-)
Miro Ammars |
I am a working father with six children. As such, I have quite a few 5 minute openings during the day, but not many 2 hour openings. One of the reasons I turned to PbP to fulfill my role-playing itch. I don't think I could reliably lock myself down for a live-action medium.
Miro Ammars |
Marching order-wise, Miro is good pretty much anywhere. He's pretty perceptive, and has a relatively good AC, so I don't mind him being near the front if others would rather be in the back.
Finarin Moonstep |
I would be in for a VTT provided I have advanced arrangements and plenty of WP (Wife Points). We might have time zone problems with Amaranti.
Marching order, Front or near the front (2nd or 3rd).
I am going to ask one of the stronger members to shoulder some of my increased weight (shovels and picks and such) so I can drop back to Light.
Gunari Maximoff |
Sorry about chiming in here, but between being sick for the last few days, and celebrating a buddy's fiftieth I haven't had much time.
While I would love to try a full AP, I think my PbP bandwidth is tapped for the moment. It is very unlikely that I'll have time for a monthly chat based game day, either. Personally I think we make our way through Thornkeep, and then we can talk. I'd be interested in running something, or playing. However, I would be hesitant to rotate GMs on something like an AP. I assume that the GM will need to fill in a lot of blanks in them, and thus lend some color.
As for marching order, Gunari of course volunteers for the front ranks. He is hoping he'll be able to upgrade his armor soon, but for now he still has the most HP and AC of the party, as it seems.
