1d20+1 Wild Empathy

I forgot that you had rolled. Thank you GMs Little Helper.

Male Human Barbarian 3

I guess my barbaric howling and snarling at the dogs is not helping your animal empathy.
Intimidate (would not spend even a move action on this, just want to roll some dice) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Drakr is lucky to still have both his eyes, and cuts the old kobold in half who wielded that spear against him.

Jobo climbs up quickly and starts to hack into the dogs.
He cleaves open the skull of one dog, and slashes through the chest of another. [d1 and d2 slaughtered]
Using Intimidate is actually a good idea, though maybe not for a melee player who can do way more with his standard action. I suggest everyone read this spoiler for future reference.

Intimidate:
Demoralise: You can use this skill to cause your opponents to be Shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten opponents in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you.
Demoralising an opponent is a standard action.

Pedro considers his Wild Empathy, and realises that he will not be able to calm these dogs today. Instead, he moves in to hammer one of the dogs into unconsciousness.
Move to L12, draw Heavy Flail, Attack d4
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
He hits it with a solid blow to the top of the head, hard enough that it’s lower jaw bangs the ground. It looks like it could drop at any moment.

Grobnar taunts his team-mates as he climbs the rope, before casting Grease.

Grobnar:
Please post the DC for the spell, and preferably enough details so that I do not have to look them up, and some map reference for where you want it. I’d rather not spend the extra time looking it up and working it out.

Reflex saves vs DC 15:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Dogs numbered 5 and 7 fall prone.
A creature can walk within or through the area of Grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can’t move that round (and must then make a Reflex save [DC 15] or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls. Creatures that do not move on their turn do not need to make this check and are not considered flat-footed.

Lorelei clambers up clumsily, though there is nothing clumsy about her aim with her Acid Dart. The acid hits a dog firmly in the eyes and mouth, and soon the canine brain and lungs are dissolving. The dog howls in immense pain for a short moment before stumbling over and twitching on its side. [d3 is killed]

Conner readies his Happy Stick to heal anyone bitten by the dogs.
5 points of healing – for easy reference.

The dogs seem wild now, relishing the scents of blood and fear in the small room. They move in to attack whoever they can. They seem to have been bred and trained for this purpose.

Dogs 5 and 7 attempt to stand…
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
…though only d5 is able to do so.

.d4 retaliates against Pedro, though its teeth are already sore in its head.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Trip attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The other 7 dogs attempt to move through the Grease…
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
.Only d11 is unable to move through the Grease.

.d7 attempts to stand.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
…and slips again.

The dogs slink past Pedro along the far wall, more interested in tastier, softer meats further on, or maybe it is their training.

Move Through Threatened Squares:

DC = opponent’s CMD
In addition, you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics. When moving in this way, you move at half speed. You can move at full speed by increasing the DC of the check by 10. You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes. You can use Acrobatics in this way while prone, but doing so requires a full-round action to move 5 feet, and the DC is increased by 5. If you attempt to move through an enemy’s space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity. If you attempt to move through an enemy’s space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity.

Pedro was bitten by d4 for 4 damage, and by d9 for another 6.
Drakr is hit by d6 for 7 (IF it survives the AoO – d6 has 13 hp), and may have tripped Drakr (I assume 18 against your CMD is enough, but I have this feeling Drakr has something else that makes Tripping him difficult.)
Jobo is missed twice.

So many teeth, so little damage :(

Sorry DM was in a bit of a rush and didn't want to hold up combat.

Come my round Grobnar will sit back and let the muscle take out the feral dogs as well as play a little tune for his fellows to bolster their strength.

Five foot back to H11 and begins performance he will lay back until a dire situation calls for him.

Grendls are a shade of brown,
with pretty little wings.
They flit around like hummingbirds,
investigating things.

Grendls are a friendly sort,
and like to gossip, too.
But don't make fun of Grendls, or
they won't be nice to you.

Grendls are voracious tykes,
and eat an awful lot.
Although they like most anything,
their favorite foods are hot.

Grendls are inquisitive;
a quite precocious breed,
with burning curiosity
matched only by their greed.

Grendls are so sensitive,
and cuddly and cute,
you really shouldn't yell at them
for pilfering your loot.

Grendls often lust for gems,
and jewelry and such.
They really can't control themselves,
so don't blame them too much.

Grendls are remarkable;
they simply are the best.
So if you have one as a friend,
then count yourself as blessed.

Drakr just needed the mwork ranseur to stop the trip :-)
Typo on first attack should have been +11

Dog 6 and & 7 are dead from AoO's - no need for Drakr to worry about being tripped.

Male Human Barbarian 3

"Drakr, you take the forward dog (d8), I'll take the two lined up. If you clear out that dog, Pedro can step back."

Jobo moves one square forward and cleaves starting with the dog straight ahead (d10) then (d4)
First attack no PA 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Second attack w/ PA 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

i'm a little confused. Has a new round begun? Was anyone hurt or not by the dogs? Did Conner expend a charge from his healing wand or not?

Since Jobo killed d6, only Pedro took any damage.

Drakr  moves forward 5' and swings his axe though the spine of a dog (8).

Jobo uses his new ranseur to good effect, disarming two of them if their heads. (10 & 4).
This provokes an AoO from d9.

Pedro panics, and is unable to land a hit. He tries to take a step back, though he seems disoriented...

Grobnar sings a mighty song to bolster his allies.
I like the bard class, I think you're doing a good job of it.

Lorelei Holds back, wary of her small frame and lack of armour. She wisely conserves her spells.

Conner holds back a moments confident that the Tin Cans can handle the dogs.

The shock of watching Pedro fall to his death causes Lorelei to miss as she fires a crossbow at one of the dogs.

Grand Lodge

Grobnar is caught in shock as he watches another of his friends plummet to his death he feels helpless and sorrow inside but nevertheless he does not down his guard and continues singing his bolstering song as loud as he can for his allies.

Drakr stands there with his jaw agape as Pedro falls.

Jobo manages to kill four dogs rapidly.

Grobnar, seeing as all the dogs are now dead, you will probably choose to save your round of singing.

Lorelei - same goes for your crossbow bolt.

Conner - you too. There is no immediate threat.

From around the corner, now that the dogs have been quieted, you can hear the sounds of panic from around the corner. It seems that kobolds are panicking. You can running, yelling, sobbing, furniture being thrown about, doors being slammed and locked.

In front if you are two open doors. The stench of wet fur, faeces, and rotting meat suggest these were the dog kennels.

sorry i didn't  pick up on Jobo killing the last four sooner. I'll try to make a GM post daily again, provided most of the players have also made one.
.
Please make new initiative rolls. Not sure these will be used immediately, no promises though.

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo is still feeling the rage. Jobo feels he can't immediately start smashing kobolds with no LOS to a kobold, probably not (2/8 rage rounds left) so he starts calming down.

"I will need to recover from my raging fury a while if you can wait with me. I don't think the kobolds will be preparing significant fortifications during a small rest break. Maybe someone can recover our Pedro's effects from the ground below."

Jobo drop to a knee and looks somewhat tired.

"We have no time to spare I won't let those bastards get away after what they have done to us and..." Grobnar stops to look back down to his fallen companion and says nothing more. He takes a moment to catch his breath and silently makes his way to the open doors looking for the next trap the pests have placed but this time he will be prepared.I am not entering the room but searching from the doorway.

Since everyone has already posted and I am not at all busy…

Whilst Drakr is keen to move on, preparing his shield in readiness, and Lorelei also feels some urgency, though she stays behind Jobo for safety, the great barbarian needs a moment to catch his breath.

Conner descends a rope to check on Pedro – Jobo suggests that he recovers some of Pedro’s gear as well. He closes the dwarf's eyes, straightens his beard a little and offers a short prayer for Pedro’s soul. Pedro is dead - his head lies at an odd angle, and his helmet has cut deeply into the back of his neck.
I’ll leave that to Conner to decide what to take and what to leave out of respect.

Pedro’s Gear:
Combat Gear Dagger, Flail, Heavy, Javelin (4), Masterwork Breastplate
- Normal -, Masterwork Studded Leather, Urgrosh, Dwarven; Other Gear Alchemist's Fire Flask, Backpack (3 @ 6 lbs), Bedroll, Climber's kit, Potion of Cure Light Wounds (3), Potion of Shield of Faith +2 (2), Pouch, belt (9 @ 7 lbs), Sack (empty), Sack (empty), Tanglefoot bag, Thunderstone (2)

Grobnar moves to check the first doorway. He carefully runs his eyes and his fingers over the doorframe, the door, its handle and the hinges. He determines that it is not trapped. Inside the room he can see that this is indeed a dog’s kennel, though he is almost sickened too, not so much by the putrid smells directly, but from the sight of the source of those smells – there are two bodies of what he now recognises as soldiers of Vigil. They have been dragged into this room as food for the dogs. The dogs have eaten most of the rotting bodies

Grobnar can see:

Through the torn clothing Grobnar can see that the body on the right has a leather satchel still held tight against chest with (mostly) skeletal arms. It was hidden beneath his clothing that has now been torn away. The body on the left was a dwarf (the dogs wouldn’t touch his beard), and wears breastplate, a large shield and still clutches his waraxe.

The sounds of panic continue from around the corner - a lot of kobolds are evacuating the area as quickly as possible.

Can I get Perception from everyone please.

Oh, and Ding! Level up please.

Male Human Druid 3

How should we spellcasters handle leveling up? Do we keep our new spell slots empty for now? Do we automatically memorize new spells or will it take 15 minutes or so?

Also wondering about the same question Conner asked.

I was going to give you Potions of Level Up + 1...
Add the extra spells you gain from levelling, but you do not regain spells already cast.
Same goes for Jobo with his Rage - he has two rounds remaining, and gains another two from gaining a level, so now he has 4 rounds of rage remaining.
I think that is the fairest way to manage this without the usual overnight rest. I believe you have gained more than enough xp to level up. Some of the encounters you have endured I believe 'surviving' counts as 'successfully completing.'

Male Human Barbarian 3

Jobo is wondering if Pedro's breastplate fits as that will save him weight and make him significantly more maneuverable to the tune of 2 less ACP. Jobo has 4/10 rage left.

"Please tie the breastplate to a bottom of one of the ropes if you think it will fit. Bring up those javelins please."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mighty Adventurers of Cedarwood,
I am taking my family on a spontaneous holiday from tomorrow till Saturday night. I will have limited access to internet. I will try to continue posting, but I am not planning any great plot developments or action. I am more likely to make lots of little posts than one big one, so keep your eyes open. Of course, what actually happens may be different.
.
Which reminds me, I don’t have everyone’s Perception check yet. I’m saving these up for something soon.
On a different note, make new rolls for

Perception or Dungeoneering or Knowledge Local DC 15 (regarding the stonework):
These caves look like they have been used for a long time by the kobolds. It is a well-established base, and this is just the entrance.

And since we have levelled up to 3, can you please update the spreadsheet for me. I’ve made a few minor changes.

Does any one else use shields? My heavy wooden shield hasn't been the same since I scraped the pink bunny motif on the roof...

I think that shield and the dwarf-sized breastplate is all you. I was hoping for the big mwork breastplate and two potions of magic weapon.

    Grand Lodge

Grobnar makes note of not telling the others of his find until pocketing a few of the items (1 Potion of Comprehend Languages, 1 Scroll of Glibness (Bard 3), 1 Potion of Cat's Grace and the note.) After taking his spoil he exits the rooms to report to the rest. "Looks like the kobolds have been hoarding their share of treasure." He says with a wry grin on his face witch soon disappears when he remembers the letter witch he displays to the others. "Oh and I found this, not sure quite what it means though but it sends a shivers down me spine." He lets the others investigate the note further and is satisfied with his share not that the others need know of it.

    Grobnar:
Pocketing a few items? What's your alignment? I was hoping to avoid any PvP in this game. There's plenty there and I think the others would have given those particular items anyway. And more.
Now as I finish my first cup of tea for the day I realise I am still tired and not thinking straight, and that you are just trying to add some flavour to you character, to keep your post interesting. I stand by my sentiments, but realise it probably doesn't need to brought up as I first thought.

Drakr hefts the heavy shield. "What a way to go... Dog food ugh!" He says looking into the rooms.

    1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Perception

He looks around at the stonework noticing the small marks that a kobolds occupation leaves. Feeling a slight movement of air that tells him that the caves go further in.

"Looks like these Kobolds have been here for quite some time. This is just the entrance, by the feel of that breeze the caves go much deeper. Could I have two of those magic weapon oils? I'll carry anything that nobody needs right now to."

    Male Human Druid 3

    The original Perception check requested 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
    The new Perception check requested 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Conner enters the room, carrying some of their fallen ally's gear.

"Let's divide these items up as well."

    Extra loot:
Masterwork Breastplate, Masterwork Studded Leather, Alchemist's Fire, Climber's Kit, (3) potions of Cure Light Wounds, (2) potions of Shield of Faith +2, Tanglefoot bag, (2) thunderstones, a sack to carry it all in

While everyone paws through the satchel, the druid examines the walls with Drakr.

"You're right, this has been here a while. So why are they only attacking the pass now? There must be some reason."

    Conner's share:
The only items I'm interested in are. I'm not going to put on all that metal. Everyone else is welcome to it :)
The following scrolls will require a Caster Check DC 6 (1d20 + caster level) to avoid a Scroll Mishap.
1 Scroll of Water Breathing (Druid 3)
The following scrolls will require a Caster Check DC 8 (1d20 + caster level) to avoid a Scroll Mishap.
1 Scroll of Summon Natures Ally 4 (Druid 4)

    Division of Pedro's loot
How about tanglefoot bag and thunderstone to Grobnar
Alchemist fire and thunderstone to Lorelei
2 potions SoF and one CLW to Drakr
2 CLW and armors for Jobo

    From the kobold loot
For Drakr MW Waraxe, MW Heavy Steel Shield , MW dwarven breastplate, two magic weapon oils and detect evil
For Jobo MW Breastplate Human size and two magic weapon oils.
Connor was quite modest in his selections
Grobnar and Lorelei to divide the rest in accordance to their magic arcane caster preferences.

Pedro...god rest his soul...couldn't even die a noble death, took one of the CLW potions, so there are only two left. Good luck guys.

A potion of Shield of faith would make my AC 25... are you sure you don't want them Jobo? +2 deflection bonus sounds good for a Barbarian. Also Drakr already has MW banded mail and a MW waraxe. I'm happy to carry the armour and axe back to Ceaderwood though. I'm happy with the shield and two magic weapon oils.

    Male Human Barbarian 3

You go in front and take the SoF potions. I will take my hits like a barbarian when needed. Let's take the stuff back and sell--I can now take 20% of a CLW wand to heal by myself now.

Ok. I like this plan, when we need scouting Grobnar can go ahead. When we don't Drakr will take point followed by Jobo, Conner, Grobnar and Lorelei.

After all the gear has been split up Drakr looks at Jobo " You rested enough yet? Let's get going these caves arent gonna clear themselves out! " Then with his axe at the ready he moves around the corner.
