Jobo |

The healing is awesome, don't stop or move back Conner. That definitely deserves a place in the second row. I guess if Lorelei can operate just as effectively from the third row--that would open more options. I think we may be finally healing faster than we take damage. I never thought Jobo would even consider moving Lorelei even 5 feet farther away, even to kill more kobolds.

Lorelei |

Lorelei will most likely be just firing her crossbow into the kobolds for the next couple rounds, so moving back another 5 ft won't make a difference for that. If she needs to cast something with a shorter range I can just have her move up and cast. Feel free to try to impress her with you martial prowess at killing all these vermin. :)

GM post |

Round 2
Conner healed Drakr as noted previously.
Drakr hits a kobold hard on the shoulder, and though his movements are stilted and he is bleeding profusely, he is still an effective combatant.
Lorelei looses and loses a bolt.
Jobo is able to cut two kobolds almost in half with a single swipe of his polearm.
Which polearm are you using?
Grobnar completes his spell, and a fire beetle now stands over the two halves of freshly dead kobold. FB on the map. Provides some light. He begins to play and sing, inspiring you all to gain +1 competence bonus to attack and weapon damage, and to some saves.

Kobolds |

Round 3
Kobolds 1 & 2 set thrust their spears at Jobo’s heels, hoping to trip him over.
1 Trip = 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
2 Aid = 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Trip attempt = 19 +2 =21 vs Jobo's CMD: 18
This action provokes AoO's from Jobo, but not from Drakr, as per RAW - which is something I didn't know till just now.
Jobo is whacked in the back of his right knee as a kobold brings his spear between his legs and levers one leg against the other. He falls prone. The two kobolds watch eagerly, waiting for him to attempt to stand, cackling evil-like.
Kobolds 11, 12, 13 work together to attack the flanked Fire Beetle.
1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23
1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22
1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26
Damage:
1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (4) = 12
1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (6) = 13
1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (2) = 6
It is thoroughly defeated and returns to its plane.

Jobo |

Jobo tries to retaliate with ranseur and prevent the trip
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 302d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 4) + 7 = 13
ranseur in hand, AC=15 (-2 cleave); hp=25/46 (w/ Connor heal)
Confirm critical (if not needed maybe give it to kobold 2 :-}
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 282d4 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12

Jobo |

Jobo, how is it that you are attacking Kobold 1 with a ranseur when he is adjacent to you? I thought that placed him outside your threatened squares.
Read the description and thought spears were a reach weapon. Sorry about that--no AoO. Just checked the PRD--pathfinder has spear and longspear--3.5 called them spear and short spear--sorry for confusion.

Drakr |

Drakr watches the big man fall. "Why you little rascals!" and he attempts to split a kobolds head K1
Atk:1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 1 = 13
Dmg:1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13

That's fine, Jobo. I decided to run a PbP as a way of learning the rules better. I wonder if I can roll so well for their AoOs?
.Drakr, that's a missed - he slid left as the axe was coming down.

Lorelei |

Editing post since with my last one I thought Jobo was preventing the trip.
Lorelei looks worried as Jobo goes down, fearing that he may be overwhelmed and swarmed by the foul little creatures.

Lorelei |

If you'll allow me to change Lorelei's whole action, she will do this instead of firing a crossbow.
Hoping to prevent such a possible swarm upon the prone and vulnerable barbarian, Lorelei drops her crossbow and draws out a scroll and reads it.
The scroll is the one of Black Tentacles that she picked up earlier.
School conjuration (creation); Level sorcerer/wizard 4 Casting Time 1 standard action Components V, S, M (octopus or squid tentacle) Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Area 20-ft.-radius spread Duration 1 round/level (D) Saving Throw: none; Spell Resistance: no This spell causes a field of rubbery black tentacles to appear, burrowing up from the floor and reaching for any creature in the area. Every creature within the area of the spell is the target of a combat maneuver check made to grapple each round at the beginning of your turn, including the round that black tentacles is cast. Creatures that enter the area of effect are also automatically attacked. The tentacles do not provoke attacks of opportunity. When determining the tentacles' CMB, the tentacles use your caster level as their base attack bonus and receive a +4 bonus due to their Strength and a +1 size bonus. Roll only once for the entire spell effect each round and apply the result to all creatures in the area of effect. If the tentacles succeed in grappling a foe, that foe takes 1d6+4 points of damage and gains the grappled condition. Grappled opponents cannot move without first breaking the grapple. All other movement is prohibited unless the creature breaks the grapple first. The black tentacles spell receives a +5 bonus on grapple checks made against opponents it is already grappling, but cannot move foes or pin foes. Each round that black tentacles succeeds on a grapple check, it deals an additional 1d6+4 points of damage. The CMD of black tentacles, for the purposes of escaping the grapple, is equal to 10 + its CMB. The tentacles created by this spell cannot be damaged, but they can be dispelled as normal. The entire area of effect is considered difficult terrain while the tentacles last.
Aiming for k12 thru k19 in the 20 ft radius, hoping to prevent a big rush of kobolds from overwhelming them.

Jobo |

Grobnar took a CLW wand that we were given at the beginning that has never been used. I remember making the comment that two of them for the huge numbers of our starting party was about right. Anyway, I'll make sure we replace your wand first thing with my share of the loot. We should probably make sure we drain them both equally to keep double healing an option. I think without someone to channel positive energy we will go through them quickly.

GM post |

Round 3
Conner heals Jobo, returning 3 points of bravery.
Drakr continues in melee with the kobold in front of him, but the canny kobold clever claps the cleaver askew with his spear.
Lorelei pulls a new scroll from her pack, and casts it, conjuring a field of rubbery black tentacles to appear, burrowing up from the floor and reaching for any creature in the area. These writhe about like giant, up-turned squids, and quickly squeeze the life from all within its grasp. None escape.
Jobo stands and two kobolds stab at him as he does so. He retaliates, thrusting his ranseur right through kobold 2 as he gains his feet.
Gobnar begins to construct a riddle for his friends amusement. It begins: How many Happy Sticks does it take for a gnome to…

Kobolds |

Round 3
Stabitty, stabby!
AoOs from Kobolds 1 & 2:
1 - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
2 -1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: Jobo is flat-footed as he stands: AC 11.
1 - 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (3) = 9
2 - 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (2) = 7
Jobo is hit for 9.
Kobold 11, turns as the tentacles almost reach him, rub against his tail. He shrieks and jumps back. Then fearing a short life on the end of an axe he tries to regain his feet before he has landed. Overbalancing he throws his spear as though this will correct it, and lands dramatically admidst the tentacles.
Most of the kobolds are caught up in Lorelei’s Black Tentacles. They scream and squeal. They bend and break. They crack and are crushed. Soon enough, they are silent and the tentacles continue to writhe, still seeking further victims.
I assume Lorelei would not dismiss it before they are all killed.
The five kobolds at the back turn and flee, and are quickly, though noisily, out of sight.

Lorelei |

Oh yeah, no dismissing the tentacle fun until all the little kobolds are dead.
A look of concern flickering over her face, Lorelei looks over Jobo. "Will you be allright to continue on?" I sure hope so because we can't afford to lose anyone else if we are to defeat these foul little creatures..."

Jobo |

16/46 hp definitely felt better
"Thank for saving me Lorelei, I am sure it won't be the last time. No need for any distance now."
Jobo will give Lorelei a big hug making sure the blood from any of his many wounds don't get on her clothes.
"Let me walk behind Drakr again. He definitely knows how to avoid hits while I know how to take hits."

![]() |

Grobnar pulls out his used happy stick and gives Jobo a few zaps.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Jobo: 37/46
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Jobo: 45/46
"Did anyone catch were they ran off I wouldn't want to walk into another of these fell traps of theirs." He says before taking a moment to search for any sign of were they fled.1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Lorelei |

As the slender half-elf almost disappears from view as she is enveloped in the big barbarian's embrace, Lorelei lets out a surprised little: Eeep! of surprise as she wasn't exactly expecting that sort of reaction.
After he lets her go, Lorelei is finally able to reply to Jobo's thanks. "You are welcome Jobo, afterall, you did a great job of keeping any of them from hitting me."

Conner Nuadha |

Actually I has two wands (Started with one and took the one we were given at the beginning.) and have only used them twice :) So I have a total of 65 charges of cure light left...should keep for a while ;)
I totally forgot about all that. I'm glad you remembered!

GM post |

Lighting? Who and How?
Drakr, how are your hp?
A brief moment to catch your brief, heal some wounds, and you are ready to move on.
Grobnar scouts ahead looking for sign of where they went. Soon enough the passage ends in a T intersection, heading left and right off this corridor. The gnome has a good look about and cannot make out fresh footprints from old because of the heavy traffic in this area (and none of those fleeing were bleeding at all).
Both corridors look the same, left or right. Within 20’ of where Grobnar stands there are a series of columns erected within the tunnels – made from a sandstone where the rest of the structure is a much harder grey stone. There are three lines of columns that break up the passage through the corridor so that even kobolds must traverse through in single file. It is difficult to make out any details beyond the columns.
All seems quiet.
The columns look something like this:

Make a Perception DC 23 check.
Marching order if/when you are ready to pass between the columns.

![]() |

Both corridors have the same series of columns right?
"I putting my money on the right what da you lot think. If no one else (Drakr) is wounded should best be moving don't want to keep our company waiting for us now do we."
If Drakr is hurt I will give him a few hits o the wand as well if not we should best be moving
Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Drakr |

HP:22/33 AC:23
Drakr does look a little beat up.
"The right looks just as good as the left to me? These columns are going to pose a problem though. I can go first but what's to stop the little buggers from doubling around and attacking the person at the back?"
perc1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Lorelei |

"How about I cast light on a pebble and just keep throwing it ahead of us? That way if anything just targets light it won't hit us." Lorelei looks around to see what others think of the idea.
If no pebbles available she will use a coin.

Jobo |

"Drakr, you look much better and I feel much better. Let's engage the chanters as soon as possible and end them. How about some light on my ranseur, we know how well it worked last time."
Jobo follows Drakr to the right (unless Drakr picks a different direction, then he goes there).

Drakr |

HP: 31/33 AC: 23
"I'll go first" Drakr moves through the columns, shield held high eyes searching the stone walls roof and floor for traps and abnormalities. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

GM post |

Drakr walks along carefully, worried about his eyes, head and feet in particular. He notices, with some relief that he was just in time, that the floor gives way under his weight BEFORE he has overcommitted. And Jobo was about to tread on the false floor when Drakr noticed.
Just made the Perception DC.
Careful prodding reveals it to be a pit trap with a heavy spring holding it up. It may even be strong enough to hold Grobnar, possibly Lorelei, but definitely not Drakr. The false floor runs the length of the column section (12' long), and the depth of the pit is difficult to determine as the light is reflected back from a watery surface around 20' - 50' below. You cannot determine the depth of the water.
Sensibly, the other passages between the columns are checked, and found to be similarly trapped.
No one has crossed yet.
Another round counted off.

Drakr |

Drakr looks through all the gear that he's carrying trying to think of a way to cross this new hazard. He holds up a scroll and says "Well unless this is a scroll of float the party across the pit trap, I got nothin'." He holds the scroll out for Lorelei to see. It's a scroll of Gaseous Form... Close but not quite.
