"Too bad, I would have liked to have heard about their fight with a mummy... and seen their treasure... Perhaps we will be as successful as they claim to be by the time we are done, eh?"
Yeshre
|
Yeshre watches Sigrun while listening to the rest of the group, before suddenly hopping up.
"Truth or not, maybe they make a good telling of it?"
She walks over to the Cryptfinders and asks them to regale her with every detail, pen in hand.
| GM Skipper |
Sigrun smiles impishly at Yeshre's request and hops onto a table. After getting the rowdy crow to calm down, she strikes a dramatic pose and recites a recent part of her epic manuscript.
"Under the relentless sun of the Red Prince's land, the grey crocodile decreed, that the enteral rest of the city half-dead shall be broken.
Travellers from across the Cage roam the silent streets, in search of wealth, knowledge and more.
Five daughters, fire in their souls, searched their given turf, the woman of the wilds dodging the devious traps of merchants long dead. The searched long, and they searched hard, but that which has been buried is not quick to reveal itself, though the daughters persevered..."
With the entire common room enraptured by her powerful voice, Sigrun smiles and jumps down from the table. Answering a cry of "But what did the daughters find?" from the back of the room, she shrugs,
"Ah, well. A girl's gotta have some secrets, otherwise where's the fun?"
Yeshre
|
Yeshre writes down the story, making annotations on gesture and pitch. She returns to the group wearing a scowl that looks out of place on her.
"I don't like her. That one's no good."
Xanac Candledark

Secrets are not easy to keep from Xanac Candledark....
Using detect thoughts on Sigrun, DC 16!
Xanac Candledark
|
"No," Xanac quietly grumbles in affirmation of Yeshre's judgment. "Not much good at all...."
Xanac turns his attention to the other members of Sigun's party....
My power will last up to 2 minutes, so I can try to read at least a few other people.
Rathh Gnatstrain
|
Rathh considers the situation and casts a spell on one of the more martial-oriented of the Daughters' group.
"I can keep all kinds of secrets," Rathh says.
Sow thought, DC 15 Will save, to tell me what they have found.
| GM Skipper |
@Rathh: Openly casting spells on other explorers in the middle of a crowded bar might not be the best idea... Xanac manages it by casting it without verbal, somatic or material components.
Will, cleric: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Will, barbarian: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Will, witch1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Will, witch2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Xanac manages to probe the Rahadoumi cleric and one of the twins' minds as well. The cleric is mildly disappointed in the lack of undead to righteously smite, while the twin does the mental equivalent of rolling her eyes at Sigrun's boastful manner.
Sigrun gives Kaleless a professional look and isn't swayed by his charms.
"If you'd be willing to share some of your discoveries, then perhaps I'll tell you more..."
Xanac Candledark
|
If there are any other noteworthy minds to read, I'll give that a try. Otherwise, no.
Laureglyn
|
"Let's check out the doors we missed... maybe one of them will lead to the other side of that secret door."
Xanac Candledark
|
Xanac reads another one of his warding (mage armor) scrolls.
| GM Skipper |
North of A5 it is then.
A brightly painted chariot sits in the center of this chamber. Beyond the chariot, a large canvas stretches between two stone columns. The skins of several animals-antelopes, great cats, and crocodiles-now faded and deteriorated with age, are tacked to this canvas. A wooden chest, lacquered white and trimmed with gold inlay, sits in the southeast corner. In each corner of the room a small stone shield is molded into the masonry at shoulder height. An open hallway lined with funerary masks leads to the east.
| GM Skipper |
With the trap disabled, Kaleless goes methodically to work on the lock and eventually manages to pick it. Inside the chest are several items of interest.
Xanac Candledark

"A-ha, now that's more like it," Says Xanac as he carefully inspects the loot.
Spellcraft on potion #1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Spellcraft on potion #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Spellcraft on potion #3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
"Well, this one's a healing potion - I'm not sure about the others."
Appraise: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Xanac barely notices the chest itself (it's not exactly to his taste).
"As for the books...we may need an expert."
Muna
|
spellcraft, 2nd potion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Muna says, "The second potion is for healing as well. Those should come in handy. I'm not sure about anything else here."
Laureglyn
|
"Well, let's haul it all out with us... I'm sure the books, whatever they are, will be considered valuable... let's just hope they aren't something mundane like a farmer's almanac or household accounts books. The box is pretty too, let's bring it along."
Rathh Gnatstrain
|
"These books mean nothing to me," Rathh says with a scowl.
"Let us continue on," he says as he breaks out some food to eat on the way.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
| GM Skipper |
Of the four funerary masks in the short hallway, the to northern ones are easily recognized as visages of Pharasma and Abadar. The two others, however...
Beyond the short hallway, you see a table displaying a three-dimensional diorama occupying much of the north side of a room. Three shields with different designs are displayed upon a rack against the east wall, while various weapons hang from another rack along the south wall. Arrayed around the room are five small chests and a clay urn.
Xanac Candledark

Xanac views the room through his third eye...
detect magic and Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
...there is, of course, a difference between viewing and seeing.
| GM Skipper |
You can see no danger from the hallway and step into the room. Immediately, three warrior dolls from the diorama animate and move to attack!
Rathh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Xanac: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Patros: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Muna : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Laureglyn : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Kaleless : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Rathh looks at the small dolls.
"This looks like some kind of product liability," he says as he takes his mace to one of them.

@Muna: Like the sarcophagus, these are animated objects. The have hardness and are exceptionally strong for their size, but they're vulnerable to fire.
Patros misses the the tiny constructs, but Rathh smashes one to pieces.
