Dindal Nimaros |
Dindal brings up the rear. "Something is wrong indeed. First perhaps check out the ground floor before going up?"
Yagi Mi |
Agreed, eed.
Yagi and Yiel-Dan move into the foyer and listen at the door to the left.
Perception: 20 + 5 = 25
Shera Dionas |
Shera follows the group inside. She keeps her eyes on the second floor while Yagi looks around. "We saw movement on the second floor from outside. Do we want to go there first?"
GM Iff |
As Yagi Mi strides forward with Laurallei and Shera in tow, Azygg and Dindal hang back. Dindal spots a broad-shoulder and tough-looking fellow coming around the corner of the mansion, trying (in vain) to use some shrubbery to cover his approach. He has some light armor on and a short sword at his belt. The man is holding a small item in his hand, but Dindal can't see it well enough to identify it.
Meanwhile inside, Yagi hears a sound through the door, soft footsteps and whispered conversation. Laurallei, keen of hearing, also hears it despite her distance from the door. The others are oblivious of what's happening.
Surprise round for the thugs, Dindal, Laurallei and Yagi. If you open a door (which takes a move action), you can remove the covering rectangle on the map.

We did sleep a night, didn't we? I assume I memorized Mage Armor anew. If not, let me know, in that case let's hope for the best :)
Dindal casts a Mage Armor spell and moves inside the manor.
"Uh ooh, there is a mean looking fellow outside clutching something in his hands!", Dindal speaks alarmed.
GM Iff |
Yes, it's a fresh morning, so everyone should have all resources. Please note that this is a surprise round. You can either move or cast a spell.
GM Iff |
I'm botting Yagi. He'll open the door, so Laurallei's action can happen.
The Pathfinders that had paid attention take advantage of the few seconds they have. Dindal protects himself and alarms the others, while Yagi opens the door. Laurallai spots two thugs in the next room, a parlor with leather sofas, dimly lit due to the drawn curtains. She casts her evil eye on the man in the blue jerkin. The man looks cross eyed for a moment, but shakes it off before the hex settles on his mind. (DC 15, right?)
The thugs then spring their trap. First, the one outside throws his small object at the step in front of the door. The powder ignites on impact, burning for a heartbeat with a terribly bright orange light. (Flash powder. Fort save DC 13 for Dindal, Azygg, Laurallai or blinded for 1 round.)
The thugs in the parlor draw their short sword and step forward to engage Yagi, while behind another door opens. A fourth thug stands in the billiards room, sword already drawn. He steps forward as well. "Took ya long enough to get here!"

GM Iff |
Botting Laurallei
The flash powder must have affected the Pathfinders further away as well, because both Yagi's and Shera's attacks miss. Both Dindal and Laurallei catch the full brunt of the flash, and are blinded. Laurallei, blinded and unable to hex one of the thugs, puts a hand on Azygg's shoulder for Guidance, while Dindal starts his spell.
The thugs then advance for the attack They're looking to take advantage of anyone blinded, but can't quite reach them without danger to themselves. It is clear that they are not well-trained combatants. The thug from the billiards room advances on Shera, although his thrust with the sword misses. "Why? To get rid of your meddlesome behinds, of course"
The man outside advances on Azygg, and he scores a hit. (6 damage for Azygg) The final two work in concert, both striking at Yagi. The tengu manages to parry one of the attack, but the other sword hits (for 5 damage).
Suddenly a figure appears on the balcony above, coming from one of the rooms on the left side of the building. Surprisingly, the figure looks like the spitting image of Azygg. He calls to the thugs in a passable imitation of Azygg's voice: "Slaughter idiots! Then to secure location get. Spare children, I have." 'Azygg' then smiles evilly, and his magical disguise fades away to reveal a handsome older man with a ponytail. "After all, there’s nothing more compelling than a living witness." He then calls out reassurances to some unseen persons in one of the rooms upstairs, in his own rough, masculine voice. "Don't worry, little ones. I'm here, I'll hold them off and save you. Just stay safe, in there." He then retreats, out of sight.

Azygg misses, still seeing spots from the flash powder, which earns him a triumphant grin from the thug he's fighting. Laurallei's hex against fails to stick to her target.
Yagi's attack against the thug is parried by his short short, but this move does give Yiel-Dan the opportunity to strike. His bite leaves the thug staggered and reeling. Shera steps back, but her aim at such short range isn't good enough.

Dindal completes his spell, and an eagle with radiant white feathers appears behind the two thugs in the parlor. It shrieks and starts tearing at the thug in green, ripping at him with claws and beak, until the man falls over. Dindal then draws his heavy crossbow and loads a bolt.
The thug's companion in blue, already staggering from Yiel-Dan's attack, looks fearful of the suddenly appearing bird. "Wha-! Where did that come from?" The man tries to withdraw, but doesn't make a lot of ground due to the severity of his wounds. (5 foot step back)
The thug with the pinkish complexion decides that the weak-looking spellcaster might be more of a threat than he appears, and steps up to Dindal, hitting with his sword. 6 damage to Dindal. The last thug strikes at Azygg but misses, then steps into the house. "Come on, cover me," he grunts to the one engaging Dindal, with a nod to Shera.

Shera, it seems like the table covers more than half or the square, so a 5 foot step into that area isn't going to work. You could try a very simple acrobatics check to jump on it, but that wouldn't work as a 5 foot step.
GM Iff |
Azygg strikes a vicious blow against his opponent. The thug still stands, until Yiel-Dan comes in to finish the job. Shera misses with her bow, unfortunately, but Lauallei does manage to hit the thug with her ray of frost, leaving him shivering. Dindal steps back and fire his crossbow, a grazing hit.
The thug lets out a primal yell and launches himself at Shera once again, striking a piecring blow right at her knee. (Critical hit, for 5 damage to Shera).
From the parlor, sounds of the last thug trying to open the window can be heard.[/ooc]

As Dindal steps back and reloads his crossbow, the rest attack the pink-faced thug. Only Laurallei hits, but it's enough to break the man's resolve. The man gives a last look to the landing up the stairs, but then darts out of the building, trying to duck past Azygg's fearsome axe. However, in doing so the thug stumbles against the doorpost. "Ow!" This provokes an AoO from Azygg.
Meanwhile, the other thug surrenders to Yagi. He lowers his voice as he drops his sword to the ground. "All right, I don't want to get killed over this..."

then marches him into the common room and orders him to kneel on the floor.
GM Iff |
The thug follows Yagi to the center of the room, struggling weakly, and does as he's told. Shera moves up the stairs, but doesn't hear anything.
Azygg also has his regular action available. I'm going to assume that he's overcome in the next round, by either Azygg's next attack, Dindal's next action, or the next round of AoO's when he tries to flee again. He wouldn't pose a threat anymore, anyway. Therefore: COMBAT OVER. You're out of initiative. You can talk with the captured thug or do anything else, but please take into account the amount of time you're taking.
Yagi Mi |
Yagi binds his captive, concerned that most of the mansion remains unexplored and possibly containing further foes or even victims.

Dindal moves to Shera to the second floor. I should have bought some CLW wand...
GM Iff |
Yagi finds short swords, shortbows, some arrows and spare change on the thugs, but little else of value. Just as he's finished tying up the remaining conscious thug and is trying to get him to talk, Shera and Dindal are walking up the stairs. Shera's keen senses pick up some movement on the landing and she spots two men skulking along the balcony, ready to strike.
These men look more lithe than the thugs waiting for them downstairs, wearing leather armor and carrying an assortment of daggers along with a short sword. Each of them is holding a small sack in one hand that probably holds an alchemical concoction.

Shera, noticing the danger, reacts quickly and fires an arrow at the man to her right. Unfortunately, her aim is hurried and she missed, also hindered by the railing that's covering the men on the landing. The two rogues have partial cover.
Both men then throw the bags they are holding. However, their aim is even worse than Shera's. Both items drop harmlessly to the floor, where they burst open to reveal a puddle of sticky goo. "Fine. Come over here then, and we'll make short work of you," one of them boasts at seeing their ploy fail.

Resolving those actions is a bit awkward. Going by initative (and posting order) Dindal's line of sight would have been blocked. I'll move Dindal's action up. Unfortunately, the rogue still has cover from that angle.
Dindal shoots and almost hits the rogue, but his bolt veers off course from hitting the railing. Shortly thereafter, his line of shot is blocked by Yagi. Shera then prays and blesses everyone.
Both rogues then draw their short swords. The one on the right balcony moves up to Shera, but fails to strike her. The other one steps up to Yagi, but also fails to connect. "Come on," he hisses to the other one. "Get down with that Sczarni git and help me out with these ones."
