Ny'a picks herself up and pats herself down, brushing her clothing back into a semblance of order. "What was that about?" she asks the dog. "You embarrassed me in front of my new friends!" The dog wags its tail with a slobbery grin, oblivious to the admonishment.

Ny'a withdraws a wand from her pack and uses it to heal herself.

The pathfinder team slips forward into the museum. It looks as if a battle has happened here, the impression enhanced further by the exhibitions.

Long shadows cast by ruined displays and broken furniture litter the floor. A humanoid-shaped figure made of shattered clockwork lies slumped over a bench. Above, an elaborately painted sign reads “Crusader’s Chronicles.”

The team hears a low growling sound nearby...

Ny'a looks over to the wards with curiousity, but defers to the group's interest. This strange memory Iomedae has given me never shows me at the wards... if she gave me this memory it must be for a reason. If she wanted me to tackle the wards, she would have shown that to me. I think?

Aerondor, I think we've been avoiding the wards because we assume our party isn't arcane enough. We do have a wizard and a bard in the party though, so are we over-thinking the need for a strong arcane party to tackle the wards? Just a thought. In both my Core and Standard runs through the A version, my party never chose to tackle the wards... if you think our party has the right tools to tackle it, it might be fun to do something different.

The scenario allows for a mix of characters to tackle problems. Although some are more efficient than others. It is really which you would prefer to do. The magical wards are a little more challenging. However while the overseer has not reported it yet, it looks like enough other teams have passed that encounter to make it unnecessary

The team heads back into the museum. As you pass through you see further signs of battle. Several fur armoured bodies are passed, along with numerous deactivated clockwork guardians and dead guard animals. It is almost like there has been a running war going on within the museum.

All around the displays stand broodingly, many torn apart by battle, some more systematically though. Slowly you approach the upper floors.

Gears, glass, and chunks of wax litter the polished wood floor under a sign that proclaims “Scars of the Lich.” The corpse of a Kellid warrior lies in a pool of blood, her furs soaked through. A constant ticking and whirring sound echoes in this area.

Nearby one of the figures of a crusader stalks the floor, waxy eyes turn for focus on you...

Still, it seems to be having some difficulty maintaining its form, and finally Ny'a ducks under its swinging fists, sword following a sweeping horizontal arc, and takes off one of its legs just above the knee.

The entire waxen golem goes crashing to the museum floor, only to be cut in twain by Tolinath's axe! Any semblance of motion is gone.

You quickly pop back outside, to make sure the wards active around the outside of the museum have indeed all been disabled.

Most of them appear to be just that, but as you case the perimeter, you realize a few are still functioning. No longer the vast wall you saw on the way in, there are still a few smaller bands still circling nearby! They seem to react to your presence, almost as if they can see you, and start to coalesce into a larger mass near the fountain.

The glyphs, though arcane wards... also have an obvious physical presence. As such, you might be able to damage them enough to disable some, but there are also a number of skills that could work as well, including Disable Device, Knowledge (arcana), Linguistics, Spellcraft, and Use Magic Device.

Knowledge (arcana) DC 13:
Although the wards are quite obviously arcane in nature, the amount of magic used to sustain them has given the entire ward almost life-like qualities.

It is a construct, with construct traits!

In its currently active state, however, it is little different then a swarm, able to do physical damage to anyone it happens to pass over.

It also is a swarm, with swarm traits!

More info possible depending on the knowledge check!

Perception DC 26:
There appears to be some sort of arcane glyph hidden in the grass around the fountain... possibly a trap of some sort, but even as you spot it, it appears to move and you lose track of it again.

- Round 1 --------

"Okay, I don't know anything about the magic we need to disable these things... or whatever it is we need to do. I'll try to help keep them distracted! Get to work with your thinking, people!" She begins guiding her dog around the fountain with her knees while she studies the floating, gathered words to determine if they're evil. She doubts it, but it's always good to know. When they both arrive close enough, Ny'a slashes out with her sword at the strange floating runes.

Actions:

Double Move (dog): 55'
Move (Ny'a): detect evil vs runes
Standard (Ny'a): attack runes

Ride, guide with knees DC 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage, S: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Detect Evil wrote:

At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Bardic Knowledge (Arcane): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

no chance at the perception

"I wish I knew something about these wards..but maybe I can just try to short circuit them by manipulating them somehow"

Use magic device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Edit:I just realized I have no clue how far away you can use the skills, If needed I'd move closer

I may not have mentioned it, but you need to be adjacent to the runes to manipulate them in any way
